• Ubuntu Server Cannot Route to the Internet

  I've been having this problem for weeks now, and I can't seem to figure out the problem. My server can route the local network and serves it well, however it cannot access the internet. It can't be the router because everything else on this lan can route through the router. I've even switched the ethernet port. Any help would be appreciated. • Single Responsibility Principle Implementation

  In my spare time, I've been designing a CMS in order to learn more about actual software design and architecture, etc. Going through the SOLID principles, I already notice that ideas like "MVC", "DRY", and "KISS", pretty much fall right into place. That said, I'm still having problems deciding if one of two implementations is the best choice when it comes to the Single Responsibility Principle. Implementation #1: class User getName getPassword getEmail // etc... class UserManager create read update delete class Session start stop class Login main class Logout main class Register main The idea behind this implementation is that all user-based actions are separated out into different classes (creating a possible case of the aptly-named Ravioli Code), but following the SRP to a "tee", almost literally. But then I thought that it was a bit much, and came up with this next implementation class UserView extends View getLogin //Returns the html for the login screen getShortLogin //Returns the html for an inline login bar getLogout //Returns the html for a logout button getRegister //Returns the html for a register page // etc... as needed class UserModel extends DataModel implements IDataModel // Implements no new methods yet, outside of the interface methods // Haven't figured out anything special to go here at the moment // All CRUD operations are handled by DataModel // through methods implemented by the interface class UserControl extends Control implements IControl login logout register startSession stopSession class User extends DataObject getName getPassword getEmail // etc... This is obviously still very organized, and still very "single responsibility". The User class is a data object that I can manipulate data on and then pass to the UserModel to save it to the database. All the user data rendering (what the user will see) is handled by UserView and it's methods, and all the user actions are in one space in UserControl (plus some automated stuff required by the CMS to keep a user logged in or to ensure that they stay out.) I personally can't think of anything wrong with this implementation either. In my personal feelings I feel that both are effectively correct, but I can't decide which one would be easier to maintain and extend as life goes on (despite leaning towards Implementation #1.) So what about you guys? What are your opinions on this? Which one is better? What basics (or otherwise, nuances) of that principle have I missed in either design?

  Well - just because I cannot find this asked anywhere else on the net - is there something like a "Disk Mounter" applet for Unity interface, or are there any alternatives? (By 'alternatives' I mean: I wouldn't mind doubleclicking an icon, and have what used to be a toolbar applet start up as a separate window; as long as don't have to grapple with mount command lines, and filesystem arguments and such) Thanks, Cheers!

• What are the correct settings for a subdomain in ZoneEdit?

  I want to create a subdomain for a site hosted by Jimdo (a DIY website builder). Jimdo does not allow subdomains however. I am trying to find a workaround where a subdomain is hosted elsewhere but everything else remains as it is. E.g. I use their email service and I want to keep it. The domain is not hosted by Jimdo, but by a host that allows me to edit my zones. It points to the Jimdo NS. I have independent hosting where I have NS information. This is where I want to host my subdomain. My thinking was that I could use ZoneEdit as a "fork" that allows me to keep using my Jimdo page like before and, at the same time, directs a subdomain to another host. Provided this is possible: Question: How do I configure ZoneEdit CNAME or NS records to forward visitors to my website and my email to my Jimdo mail account while pointing a subdomain to another host?

  We have a mailman mailing list however as we all know this is not very user friendly in terms of searching the archives. I am looking at a way to enable the continued functionality of mailman while having a forum linked to it for a more friendly user-interface approach. Is there a forum application that lets you mirror the mailman service so that posts to mailman are sync'd into the forum and posts to the forum are sync'd to mailman?

NetBeans IDE 6.9 introduces the JavaFX Composer, a visual layout tool for building JavaFX GUI applications, similar to the Swing GUI builder for Java SE applications.   I installed ubuntu 12.04 from the mini.iso I want the most minimal classic gnome possible, all I ever need is a terminal, wireless connection, chromium and mid-night commander. No video or audio players no office no nautilus and no other applications. How can this be achieved? I also don't want a log in graphical interface like GDM or lightdm , I'll be happy to log in using the command line. Thanks in advance

• How can I solve the same problems a CB-architecture is trying to solve without using hacks? [on hold]

  A component based system's goal is to solve the problems that derives from inheritance: for example the fact that some parts of the code (that are called components) are reused by very different classes that, hypothetically, would lie in a very different branch of the inheritance tree. That's a very nice concept, but I've found out that CBS is often hard to accomplish without using ugly hacks. Implementations of this system are often far from clean. But I don't want to discuss this any further. My question is: how can I solve the same problems a CBS try to solve with a very clean interface? (possibly with examples, there are a lot of abstract talks about the "perfect" design already). Here's an example I was going for before realizing I was just reinventing inheritance again: class Human { public: Position position; Movement movement; Sprite sprite; // other human specific components }; class Zombie { Position position; Movement movement; Sprite sprite; // other zombie specific components }; After writing that I realized I needed an interface, otherwise I would have needed N containers for N different types of objects (or to use boost::variant to gather them all together). So I've thought of polymorphism (move what systems do in a CBS design into class specific functions): class Entity { public: virtual void on_event(Event) {} // not pure virtual on purpose virtual void on_update(World) {} virtual void on_draw(Window) {} }; class Human { private: Position position; Movement movement; Sprite sprite; public: virtual void on_event(Event) { ... } virtual void on_update(World) { ... } virtual void on_draw(Window) { ... } }; class Zombie { private: Position position; Movement movement; Sprite sprite; public: virtual void on_event(Event) { ... } virtual void on_update(World) { ... } virtual void on_draw(Window) { ... } }; Which was nice, except for the fact that now the outside world would not even be able to know where a Human is positioned (it does not have access to its position member). That would be useful to track the player position for collision detection or if on_update the Zombie would want to track down its nearest human to move towards him. So I added const Position& get_position() const; to both the Zombie and Human classes. And then I realized that both functionality were shared, so it should have gone to the common base class: Entity. Do you notice anything? Yes, with that methodology I would have a god Entity class full of common functionality (which is the thing I was trying to avoid in the first place).

  I am able to run sessions over an ssh connection but I rather use the "Ubuntu classic desktop (no effects)" version on Ubuntu 11.04 instead of the new Unity since I don't have 3d support on the laptop I'm using to display the graphical User Interface. How can I startup the older gnome-session without the 3d effects? I tried gnome-session but it seems to be the option with the 3d effects and I want a more stripped down session over my ssh session.

• blender: 3D model from guide images

  In a effort to learn the blender interface, which is confusing to say the least, I've chosen to model a model from referrence pictures easily found on the web. Problem is that I can't ( and won't ) get perfect "right", "front" and "top" pictures. Blender only allows you to see the background pictures when in ortographic mode and only from right|front|top, which doesn't help me. How to I proceed to model from non-perfect guide images?

• Wireless networks are not detected at start up in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have recently (three four days ago) installed Ubuntu 12.04 via windows installer i.e. wubi.exe. After the installation completed wireless and Ethernet were both working well. But after restart wireless networks didn't show up while in the network manager both networking and wireless were enabled. Though sometimes after boot it did show the networks available but very rarely. So I went through various posts regarding wireless issues in Ubuntu 12.04 and tried so many things but ended up in nothing satisfactory. I have Broadcom 4313 LAN network controller and brcmsmac driver. Then relying on some suggestions I tried to install bcm-wl driver but couldn't install due to some error in jockeyl.log file. Then i tried fresh installation of the same driver but still could resolve the startup issues with wireless. Then again I reinstalled Ubuntu inside windows using wubi installer. This time again same problem occurred after boot. But this time I successfully installed wl driver before disturbing file-system files of Ubuntu. But again the same issue. This time I noticed some new things: If I inserted Ethernet/LAN cable before startup then wireless networks are available and of course LAN(wired) networks also work. but if i don't plug in cable before startup and then plug it after startup then it didn't detect Ethernet network neither wireless. So I haven't noticed it before that LAN along with wifi also doesn't work after startup. But if i suspend the session and make it sleep and again login then it worked. I tried it every time that WLAN worked perfectly. But still i m unable to resolve that startup problem. Each time i boot first I have to suspend it once then only networks are available. It irritates me each time i reboot/boot my lappy. So please help out of this problem. Any ideas/help regarding this issue would be highly appreciated. I already tried: Craig's list got about 10 resumes, but most couldn't answer our technical questions StackOverflow Careers no responses What sites did you have success with finding good developers? UPDATE 1: Wanted to provide some more information: My company is in NJ. We are a small startup. Less then 10 people. Monster, Dice, CareerBuilder all charge like $500 a month per posting. Seems a bit much. Also only Dice is specifically targeting technical positions. With monster and career builder I am a bit worried about having to go through hundreds of resumes that don't apply.
