  • Is my code really not unit-testable?

    - by John
A lot of code in a current project is directly related to displaying things using a 3rd-party 3D rendering engine. As such, it's easy to say "this is a special case, you can't unit test it". But I wonder if this is a valid excuse... it's easy to think "I am special" but rarely actually the case. Are there types of code which are genuinely not suited for unit-testing? By suitable, I mean "without it taking longer to figure out how to write the test than is worth the effort"... dealing with a ton of 3D math/rendering it could take a lot of work to prove the output of a function is correct compared with just looking at the rendered graphics.

  • Sqlite + Java: table not updating

    - by Ben L
I'm using a Java wrapper for SQLite called SQLiteJDBC - this may have some bearing on any answers... I have a table which I've displayed in a GUI, within that UI I have a button for the fields for an individual row of that table. When I save my changes I do this... Statement stmt = connection.createStatement(); stmt.execute("update 'tableName' set 'fieldName'=1 where userid=1"); int updateCount = stmt.getUpdateCount(); My connection is valid, I get no exceptions thrown and getUpdateCount() returns '1' indicating that one row has been updated. However my table is not updated. I've spent the last few hours trying to work out what's going on but I'm not having any luck. Help!!

  • jquery validation plugin - different treatment for display errors vs. clearing errors

    - by RyOnLife
I am using the popular jQuery Validation Plugin. It's very flexible with regards to when validations are run (onsubmit, onfocusout, onkeyup, etc.). When validations do run, as appropriate, errors are both displayed and cleared. Without hacking the plugin core, I'd like a way to split the behavior so: Errors are only displayed onsubmit But if the user subsequently enters a valid response, errors are cleared onsubmit, onfocusout, etc. Just trying to create a better user experience: Only yell at them when they submit, yet still get the errors out of their face as soon as possible. When I ran through the options, I didn't see the callbacks necessary to accomplish this. I'd like to make it work without having to hack the plugin core. Anyone have some insights? Thanks.

  • YUI Datatable Not Taking JSON

    - by Pete Herbert Penito
I am trying to fill a Datatable with a JSON using YUI, I have this JSON: [{"test":"value1", "test2":"value2", "test3":"value3", "topic_id":"123139007E57", "gmt_timestamp":1553994442, "timestamp_diff":-1292784933382, "status":"images\/statusUp.png", "device_id":"568FDE9CC7275FA"}, .. It continues like this with about 20 different devices, and I close it with a ] I just want to print select keys in the datatable so my Column Definitions look like this: var myColumnDefs = [ {key:"test", sortable:true, resizeable:true}, {key:"test2", sortable:true, resizeable:true}, {key:"topic_id", sortable:true, resizeable:true}, {key:"status", sortable:true, resizeable:true}, {key:"device_id", sortable:true, resizeable:true}, ]; var myDataSource = new YAHOO.util.DataSource(bookorders); myDataSource.responseType = YAHOO.util.DataSource.TYPE_JSARRAY; myDataSource.responseSchema = { fields: ["test","test2","topic_id","status","device_id"] }; var myDataTable = new YAHOO.widget.DataTable("basic", myColumnDefs, myDataSource); It's print Data Error for some reason, what am I doing wrong? Thanks! I have tested the validity of the JSON at JSONLint and it says it is valid.

  • RoR model field without validators, has*, delegates, etc

    - by jackr
How can I declare a field, in the Rails model, when it doesn't have any "has_" relations, or validations, or delegations? I just need to ensure its existence and column width in the schema. Currently, I have no mention of the field in the "schema section" of the model file, but it's referenced in various methods that use it, and this seems to work. However, depending on my exact creation workflow, the underlying database table may be created as t.binary "field_name", :limit => 32 or t.binary "field_name", :limit => 255 This is not a restriction on the value (any binary value is valid, even NULL), only on the table column declaration. As it happens, 32 is enough -- it never receives any larger value, it's only ever written to like this: self.field_name = SecureRandom.random_bytes(32)

  • CSS horizontal scrolling overflow with jQuery slider

    - by Jeffrey
    I'm trying to setup a full screen jquery slider. I've broken the project into two steps 1) css and 2) js. 1) CSS, below is a picture of what I'm shooting for (no fixed height) and below that is the code I have so far that doesn't work. <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <style type="text/css"> /* Positioning */ #container { width: 2500px; } .block { display: inline; } /* Styling */ .block img { padding: 5px; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div class="block"><img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/1zp2poz.gif"></div> <div class="block"><img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/1zp2poz.gif"></div> <div class="block"><img src="http://i42.tinypic.com/1zp2poz.gif"></div> </div> </body> </html> 2) Javascript, using jquery I'd like the divs to slide left when clicked on them... like the jQuery Coda Slider if possible. Thanks, any help is appreciated.

  • Ruby/python Script to convert html text to plain text in csv file

    - by Miau
Hi all: So i have a large(ish) file in a csv format, that contains a column that has html and i need to transform that to plain text (ie readable by people ,ie with no script tags) I dont have much experience with ruby, but it seems like the perfect language to do this The File should still be in a cv format after the parsing ( ie, other columns should nto be disturbed) Helpz? Fair enough, I thought there might be a library that does that as long as the html was valid. The file looks something liek this "xxxx-15454ss", "xome name", "<div class=""myClass""><strong>The Vintage Junior </strong>offers the same specs as the Vintage Series but only in 3/4 Size ideal for Kids. the 57 Model is great value for a good quality guitar. For more info go to <a href=""www.somehting.com"">something</a> </div> " I m trying to include the common html tags we would be using Thanks

  • what is the best algorithm to use for this problem

    - by slim
Equilibrium index of a sequence is an index such that the sum of elements at lower indexes is equal to the sum of elements at higher indexes. For example, in a sequence A: A[0]=-7 A[1]=1 A[2]=5 A[3]=2 A[4]=-4 A[5]=3 A[6]=0 3 is an equilibrium index, because: A[0]+A[1]+A[2]=A[4]+A[5]+A[6] 6 is also an equilibrium index, because: A[0]+A[1]+A[2]+A[3]+A[4]+A[5]=0 (sum of zero elements is zero) 7 is not an equilibrium index, because it is not a valid index of sequence A. If you still have doubts, this is a precise definition: the integer k is an equilibrium index of a sequence if and only if and . Assume the sum of zero elements is equal zero. Write a function int equi(int[] A); that given a sequence, returns its equilibrium index (any) or -1 if no equilibrium indexes exist. Assume that the sequence may be very long.

  • Retain ViewData when editing variable length list

    - by Pieter
I'm editing variable length lists and use ViewData to pass around information for filling a DropDownList. I use the method described here for editing these lists: http://blog.stevensanderson.com/2010/01/28/editing-a-variable-length-list-aspnet-mvc-2-style/ The data for this dropdownlist comes from the database. As the ViewData is not available across requests, I currently do a new query to the database each and every time. This also happens when the ModelState is not valid and the form is redisplayed. Of course, this is less then ideal even for a light-weight query as this one. How can I retain the information from that query across requests as long as the user is editing the page with that variable length list?

  • Mutually exclusive regular expressions

    - by CaptnCraig
If I have a list of regular expressions, is there an easy way to determine that no two of them will both return a match for the same string? That is, the list is valid if and only if for all strings a maximum of one item in the list will match the entire string. It seems like this will be very hard (maybe impossible?) to prove definitively, but I can't seem to find any work on the subject. The reason I ask is that I am working on a tokenizer that accepts regexes, and I would like to ensure only one token at a time can match the head of the input.

  • Master data validation in service layer

    - by rakesh-nitj
User enters the data in the forms by choosing values from the master data drop downs in web layer. Data is populated in the dropdowns based on some logic from the master data tables and we know for sure that its a valid master data as far as web layer is concern. Now my question is, should be check the validity of the master data in service layer again because we want to use service layer for mulitple interfaces (Web User Interface, Web Services, Unit Test Cases etc.) or we should validate the master data in respective interfaces only.

  • Using stored procedures to generate RDLC report in C#

    - by NDraskovic
I'm making an application that generates reports for my client. I'm using his database that contains stored procedures which return the data needed for the reports. The problem is that I don't know how to execute them from the application (more specific the TableAdapter in my dataset). When I use the visual aid to create the TableAdapter, it shows the error "Invalid object named #table1". This is weird because there is a temporary table called #table1 in the stored procedure. When I try to do the whole job programmatically, I get the exception Incorrect syntax near '.'. An object or column name is missing or empty. For SELECT INTO statements, verify each column has a name. For other statements, look for empty alias names. Aliases defined as "" or [] are not allowed. Change the alias to a valid name. I created a DataTable that has identical structure as the result of the stored procedure, but I still get the same exception

  • mapping 'value object' collection in (Fluent) NHibernate

    - by adrin
I have the following entity public class Employee { public virtual int Id {get;set;} public virtual ISet<Hour> XboxBreakHours{get;set} public virtual ISet<Hour> CoffeeBreakHours {get;set} } public class Hour { public DateTime Time {get;set;} } (What I want to do here is store information that employee A plays Xbox everyday let's say at 9:00 13:30 and has a coffee break everyday at 7:00 12:30 18:00) - I am not sure if my approach is valid at all here. The question is how should my (ideally fluent) mappings look like here? It is not necessary (from my point of view) for Hour class to have Id or be accessible from some kind of repository.

  • Validating IPv4 string in Java

    - by Mat Banik
    Bellow method is validating if string is correct IPv4 address it returns true if it is valid. Any improvements in regex and elegance would be very appreciated: public static boolean validIP(String ip) { if (ip == null || ip.isEmpty()) return false; ip = ip.trim(); if ((ip.length() < 8) & (ip.length() > 15)) return false; try { Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("^(?:(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\\.){3}(?:25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)$"); Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(ip); return matcher.matches(); } catch (PatternSyntaxException ex) { return false; } }

  • Is it safe to validate a URL with a regexp?

    - by Vilx-
In my web app I've got a form field where the user can enter an URL. I'm already doing some preliminary client-side validation and I was wondering if I could use a regexp to validate if the entered string is a valid URL. So, two questions: Is it safe to do this with a regexp? A URL is a complex beast, and just like you shouldn't use a regexp for parsing HTML, I'm worried that it might be unsuitable for a URL as well. If it can be done, what would be a good regexp for the task? (I know that Google turns up countless regexps, but I'm worried about their quality). My goal is to prevent a situation where the URL appears in the web page and is unusable by the browser.

  • Why in Objective-C, we use self = [super init] instead of just [super init]?

    - by ????
In a book, I saw that if a subclass is overriding a superclass's method, we may have self = [super init]; First, is this supposed to be done in the subclass's init method? Second, I wonder why the call is not just [super init]; ? I mean, at the time of calling init, the memory is allocated by alloc already (I think by [Foobar alloc] where Foobar is the subclass's name. So can't we just call [super init] to initialize the member variables? Why do we have to get the return value of init and assign to self? I mean, before calling [super init], self should be pointing to a valid memory allocation chuck... so why assigning something to self again? (if assigning, won't [super init] just return self's existing value?)

  • How do I use grep to extract a specific field value from lines

    - by Stormshadow
I have lines in a file which look like the following ....... DisplayName="john" .......... where .... represents variable number of other fields. Using the following grep command, I am able to extract all the lines which have a valid 'DisplayName' field grep DisplayName="[0-9A-Za-z[:space:]]*" e:\test However, I wish to extract just the name (ie "john") from each line instead of the whole line which is returned by grep. I tried pipelining the output to the cut command but it does not accept string delimiters.

  • Force an object to be allocated on the heap

    - by Warren Seine
A C++ class I'm writing uses shared_from_this() to return a valid boost::shared_ptr<>. Besides, I don't want to manage memory for this kind of object. At the moment, I'm not restricting the way the user allocates the object, which causes an error if shared_from_this() is called on a stack-allocated object. I'd like to force the object to be allocated with new and managed by a smart pointer, no matter how the user declares it. I thought it could be done through a proxy or an overloaded new operator, but I can't find a proper way of doing that. Is there a common design pattern for such usage? If it's not possible, how can I test it at compile time?

Like the system.img ramdisk.img userdata-qemu.img So after that i ran the emulator command so that means the OUT directory was valid and could easily be used to create any other bootable medium. What i want to accomplish Creating the iso file from all those img files found at the end of building process,or a way to just create an iso out of that complete OUT folder. any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is it possible to compute the minimum of three numbers by using two comparisons at the same time?

    - by Milo Hou
I've been trying to think up of some way that I could do two comparisons at the same time to find the greatest/least of three numbers. Arithmetic operations on them are considered "free" in this case. That is to say, the classical way of finding the greater of two, and then comparing it to the third number isn't valid in this case because one comparison depends on the result of the other. Is it possible to use two comparisons where this isn't the case? I was thinking maybe comparing the differences of the numbers somehow or their products or something, but came up with nothing. Just to reemphasize, two comparisons are still done, just that neither comparison relies on the result of the other comparison. EDIT: what about: boolA = A^2 + B^2 < C^2 boolB = A > B if boolA then max=C else if boolB then max=A else max=B

  • How to get an ordered list parsed by XML parser?

  • Wordpress issue with footer

    - by Raelona
I've been trying to turn my simple html/css site into a wordpress site. my big issue which no one seem to be able to solve appears in my footer. The footer is pretty much ignoring everything and just staying in the top of the site ( like it was a part of my header). All my files is split into 3 files. A header.php a footer.php and the page.php (one for each site). • Ignoring characters in a file while parsing

    - by sfactor
i need to parse through a text file and process the data. the valid data is usually denoted by either a timestamp with TS followed by 10 numbers (TS1040501134) or values with a alpabet followed by nine numbers (A098098098)...so it will be like TS1040501134A111111111B222222222...........TS1020304050A000000000........ However, there are cases when there will be filler 0s when there is no data. So, such a case might be 00000000000000000000TS1040501134A111111111B2222222220000000000TS1020304050A000000000........` Now as we can see I need to ignore these zeros. how might i do this? I am using gnu C.
