  Okay, .NET geniuses, here's the relevant part of my code: adapter.Fill(table); return; } catch(Exception ex) { SqlException sqlEx = ex as SqlException; I have an exception that's being thrown by adapter.Fill(), and when I put a breakpoint on the first line in the exception handler, the Exception.Data property already contains a key that is unique to my application. The thing is that it does not happen every time, but only when this exception is thrown within ~2 seconds of it last being thrown. Explain that!! :) Thanks!

  Hello I am using Ejb3 and JPA (based on Hibernate and Oracle 10g at the moment) I have an entity that contains a clob @Entity @Table(name = "My_TAB") public class ExampleEntity implements java.io.Serializable { private Clob someText; public void setSomeText(Clob someText) { this.someText= someText; } @Column(name = "COLUMN_NAME") public Clob getSomeText() { return this.someText; } Then I want to save an entity of this type. At the moment I am doing the following which works perfectly ExampleEntity exampleEntity = new ExampleEntity(); exampleEntity.setSomeText(Hibernate.createClob(aStringValue)); someOtherDao.save(exampleEntity); However this ties my code to Hibernate! I have specifically avoided so far Hibernate extensions and used only JPA annotations. The code works because indeed Hibernate is my current implementation. Is there some sort of JPA API that allows me to create a clob in a generic way? So if later I decide to switch to Toplink/EclipseLink or something else I won't have to change a thing?

• Using URL Routing for Web Forms with .ashx files

  I am developing a .NET 3.5 Web Forms based website that uses URL Routing. So far I have created a few routes and I have had no issue. I now have a .ashx file that is going to handle sending .pdf files from a table in SQL Server to the website when someone clicks on a link. Normally when I create a Handler it would look like this: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/ViewItem.aspx", typeof(Page)) as Page; For my .ashx file I tried: return BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath("~/FileServer.ashx", typeof(Page)) as Page; This doesn't work though because fileserver.ashx is not a page so casting it as typeof(Page)) as Page is going to fail. What do I cast the VirtualPath as instead of Page or is there some other way I should be doing this.

  I’m using the Membership Provider and would like to display a list of all the users and their First Name, Last Name etc using the GetAllUsers function. I'm having trouble understanding how to implement this function in MVC. Has anyone implemented this in MVC or is there an easier way to list all the users in my application? • Serial Mac OS X constantly freezes/locks/dissappears for USB to Arduino

  I have a problem with my C++ code running in Xcode with both the AMSerial library as well as the generic C (ioctl, termios). After a fresh restart, my application works well but after I "kill" the program the Serial (I think) is not released. I have checked my open files under /dev and have killed the connection to serial USB from there, but my C++ still can't open the USB port. I have narrowed this down to being a low level Mac OS X issue, regarding blocking the port indefinitely, regardless of closing it using the aforementioned libraries. Just for context, I'm trying to send numbers through my USB port, serially to an Arduino Duemilanove at 9600 baud. Running Serial Monitor in Arduino is perfectly fine, however, running through a C++ application it freezes up my computer, occasionally, my mouse/keyboard freeze up: requiring a hard reset. How can this problem be fixed? It seems like Mac OS X is not USB friendly!

• RadGrid cannot pass sortExpression to ObjectDataSourceControl

  I have a Telerik RadGrid that bound to a datasource object. They are configured to support custom paging, sorting. For paging, only the data of a page is retrieved from the database. Before sorting, it works fine. The select method of the datasource is like public List<xxx> Select(string sortExpression, int maximumRows, int startRowIndex) {} Before sorting the sortExpression is empty, which is expected. But after use click sort, in the OnSortCommand event handler of Radgrid, the SortExpression is correct, indicating RadGrid has caputre user's sorting correctly. protected void OnSort(object source, GridSortCommandEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine(e.SortExpression); // correct } But what is strange is that the RadGrid does not pass parameter to DataSource correctly this time. sortExpression is still empty, maximumRows became int.Max, and startRowIndex is 0. The the sorting in still render correctly, but grid ask datasource to get all data and do the sorting locally. Is this bug of RadGrid or my configuration is wrong?

• State Machine WF: Issues with workflow termination

  Hello, We have a state machine workflow for maintaining the state of an application submitted by a user. One of the issues I am having is related to workflow termination. In one of the states, I had a bug. When the application reached that state, it threw an exception and as a result, the terminate event of the workflow was called and the particular workflow instance got removed from the persistence database. So I am not able to load that workflow instance anymore. I would have hoped, if there is an error in one of the states, an exception would be thrown(so that we know what the issue is), yet the entire workflow instance should not disappear. Can the fault handler activity ensure that the workflow does not terminate. Also, is there a way, when the terminate event is called, the instances do not get removed from the persistence store.   On a virtual hosting server I have the open_basedir set to .:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear for each virtual host. I have a client who's running WordPress and he's complaining about open_basedir errors thus: PHP WARNING: file_exists() [function.file-exists]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/lib/php/session/sess_42k7jn3vjenj43g3njorrnrmf2) is not within the allowed path(s): (.:/path/to/vhost/web:/tmp:/usr/share/pear) So the PHP session save_path isn't included in open_basedir but sessions across all sites on the server seems to be working fine apart from in this intermittent instance. I thought that perhaps the default session handler ignored open_basedir and this warning was caused by WP accessing the session file directly. However from what I can see PHP 5.2.4 introduced open_basedir checking to the session.save_path config: http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.2.4 (I am on PHP 5.2.13). Any ideas?

[WebGet] MyClass[] WebMethod() If the signiature looks like this [WebGet] IEnumerable<T> WebMethod() I get the following error: Cannot serialize parameter of type 'X.Y.Z.T+<WebMethod>d__2c' (for operation 'WebMethod', contract 'IService') because it is not the exact type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[X.Y.Z.T]' in the method signature and is not in the known types collection. In order to serialize the parameter, add the type to the known types collection for the operation using ServiceKnownTypeAttribute. I have tried adding. ServiceKnownType(typeof(IEnumerable)) Same error. Is this a bug in 2010 beta 2, or is this likely to be correct going forward? Thanks

• Close PrintPreviewDialog when ESC is pressed

  I'm working on a WinForms application that uses System.Windows.Forms.PrintPreviewDialog to display a Print Preview dialog. When the user presses ESC in that dialog, I'd like to close the dialog. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do this. I've tried to install a KeyDown/PreviewKeyDown event handler, but it never gets called. I also tried setting focus to the dialog (and to its PrintPreviewControl), thinking that was the issue, but that didn't help either. Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?

• NHibernate 2.1.2 in medium trust.

  I'm trying to configure nhibernate 2.1.2 to run in medium trust, without any luck. I have tried follwing the suggestions to run in medium trust and pre-generating the proxies. I then tried to remove all references to lazy loading setting the default-lazy="false" on all classes and bags. However this threw an exception asking me to configure the proxyfactory.factory_class None of these methds worked as they kept throwing generic security exceptions or throwing easying that libraries do not allow AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers. Am I using the wrong version of NHibernate if I want to run in medium trust? Is there a specific set of binaries, or source, which I should be using.

  Hi, PDF experts help needed, I am posting a form from PDF to a PHP script with Adobe Acrobat. I would like to set my PDF to display appropiate messages based upon some returned values. So I am looking for returned values... if there is any returned values after posting the form, how can I access them? Maybe, there is an option to set this in Adobe? Another thing: When the PDF form gets submitted and let's say I echo back a 'thank you' message from my form-handler PHP script, a new PDF gets created and opened displaying my message... is there a way to open that new message in the same window and close the form instead?   I've got a list of frequently used hex colors that I'd like to list under my jPicker bound input text field and I'd like to figure out how to change the value of the jPicker active color without opening the jPicker color selector palette. I've managed to create a function that updates the input field thats bound to the jPicker, but the colors of the background and picker.gif do not update. I'd like to force the background colors to update as if the color was selected from jPicker itself.   Hi guys, I'm tring to create a generic collection of dynamic type at runtime of Silverlight application. My code: Type listType = Type.GetType("System.Collections.ObjectModel.ObservableCollection`1[[" + type.AssemblyQualifiedName + "]], System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e", true); type - is variable of Type type. That Type is creating at runtime. At that code line I've got error: Could not load file or assembly ', Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. How can I resolve that error?

• Dynamically creating GWT screens using Metadata?

  I have an AWT applet application that needs to be ported over to GWT. The applet screens are described in meta data and the applet renders each screen dynamically using reflection. We'd like the same thing in GWT/ExtGWT. I've built a working version of this ExtJS whereby the metadata is turned into ExtJS Screen configs in the form of JSON. The drawback with this approach is the "wiring" of controls to data needs to be written in Javascript. GWT is preferred since it'd be all Java code, no JS. Upon digging in it's possible to render the screens using GWT off the metadata using GWT.create(). The problem I'm having is the wiring to hook a dynamically created button for example to an event handler requires reflection which is not supported in GWT. Is this conclusion correct? and if so, are there any other ways to achieve this type of dynamic UI using ExtGWT?

  I've been trying to see if I can accomplish some requirements with a document based database, in this case CouchDB. Two generic requirements: CRUD of entities with some fields which have unique index on it ecommerce web app like eBay (better description here). And I'm begining to think that a Document-based database isn't the best choice to address these requirements. Furthermore, I can´t imagine a use for a Document based database (maybe my imagination is too little).   I was looking for a way to route http://www.example.com/WebService.asmx to http://www.example.com/service/ using only the ASP.NET 3.5 Routing framework without needing to configure the IIS server. Until now I have done what most tutorials told me, added a reference to the routing assembly, configured stuff in the web.config, added this to the Global.asax: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RouteCollection routes = RouteTable.Routes; routes.Add( "WebService", new Route("service/{*Action}", new WebServiceRouteHandler()) ); } ...created this class: public class WebServiceRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { // What now? } } ...and the problem is right there, I don't know what to do. The tutorials and guides I've read use routing for pages, not webservices. Is this even possible? Ps: The route handler is working, I can visit /service/ and it throws the NotImplementedException I left in the GetHttpHandler method.

  I have some experience writing web applications in Java for class projects. My first project used Servlets and my second, the Stripes framework. However, I feel that I am missing the greater picture of Java web development. I don't really understand the web.xml and context.xml files. I'm not sure what constitutes a Java EE application as opposed to a generic Java web application. I can't figure out how a bean is different from an ordinary Java class (POJO?) and how that differs from an Enterprise Java Bean (EJB). These are just the first few questions I could think of, but there are many more. What is a good way to learn how Java web applications function from the top down rather than simply how to develop an application with a specific framework? (Is there a book for this sort of thing?) Ultimately, I would like to understand Java web applications well enough to write my own framework.
