  • Unable to Calculate Position within Owner-Draw Text

    - by Jonathan Wood
    I'm trying to use Visual Studio 2012 to create a Windows Forms application that can place the caret at the current position within a owner-drawn string. However, I've been unable to find a way to accurately calculate that position. I've done this successfully before in C++. I've now tried numerous methods in C#. Originally, I tried using .NET classes to determine the correct position, but then I tried accessing the Windows API directly. In some cases, I came close, but after some time I still cannot place the caret accurately. I've created a small test program and posted key parts below. I've also posted the entire project here. The exact font used is not important to me; however, my application assumes a mono-spaced font. Any help is appreciated. Form1.cs This is my main form. public partial class Form1 : Form { private string TestString; private int AveCharWidth; private int Position; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); TestString = "123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890"; AveCharWidth = GetFontWidth(); Position = 0; } private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Font = new Font(FontFamily.GenericMonospace, 12, FontStyle.Regular, GraphicsUnit.Pixel); } protected override void OnGotFocus(EventArgs e) { Windows.CreateCaret(Handle, (IntPtr)0, 2, (int)Font.Height); Windows.ShowCaret(Handle); UpdateCaretPosition(); base.OnGotFocus(e); } protected void UpdateCaretPosition() { Windows.SetCaretPos(Padding.Left + (Position * AveCharWidth), Padding.Top); } protected override void OnLostFocus(EventArgs e) { Windows.HideCaret(Handle); Windows.DestroyCaret(); base.OnLostFocus(e); } protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e) { e.Graphics.DrawString(TestString, Font, SystemBrushes.WindowText, new PointF(Padding.Left, Padding.Top)); } protected override bool IsInputKey(Keys keyData) { switch (keyData) { case Keys.Right: case Keys.Left: return true; } return base.IsInputKey(keyData); } protected override void OnKeyDown(KeyEventArgs e) { switch (e.KeyCode) { case Keys.Left: Position = Math.Max(Position - 1, 0); UpdateCaretPosition(); break; case Keys.Right: Position = Math.Min(Position + 1, TestString.Length); UpdateCaretPosition(); break; } base.OnKeyDown(e); } protected int GetFontWidth() { int AverageCharWidth = 0; using (var graphics = this.CreateGraphics()) { try { Windows.TEXTMETRIC tm; var hdc = graphics.GetHdc(); IntPtr hFont = this.Font.ToHfont(); IntPtr hOldFont = Windows.SelectObject(hdc, hFont); var a = Windows.GetTextMetrics(hdc, out tm); var b = Windows.SelectObject(hdc, hOldFont); var c = Windows.DeleteObject(hFont); AverageCharWidth = tm.tmAveCharWidth; } catch { } finally { graphics.ReleaseHdc(); } } return AverageCharWidth; } } Windows.cs Here are my Windows API declarations. public static class Windows { [Serializable, StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public struct TEXTMETRIC { public int tmHeight; public int tmAscent; public int tmDescent; public int tmInternalLeading; public int tmExternalLeading; public int tmAveCharWidth; public int tmMaxCharWidth; public int tmWeight; public int tmOverhang; public int tmDigitizedAspectX; public int tmDigitizedAspectY; public short tmFirstChar; public short tmLastChar; public short tmDefaultChar; public short tmBreakChar; public byte tmItalic; public byte tmUnderlined; public byte tmStruckOut; public byte tmPitchAndFamily; public byte tmCharSet; } [DllImport("user32.dll")] public static extern bool CreateCaret(IntPtr hWnd, IntPtr hBitmap, int nWidth, int nHeight); [DllImport("User32.dll")] public static extern bool SetCaretPos(int x, int y); [DllImport("User32.dll")] public static extern bool DestroyCaret(); [DllImport("User32.dll")] public static extern bool ShowCaret(IntPtr hWnd); [DllImport("User32.dll")] public static extern bool HideCaret(IntPtr hWnd); [DllImport("gdi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public static extern bool GetTextMetrics(IntPtr hdc, out TEXTMETRIC lptm); [DllImport("gdi32.dll")] public static extern IntPtr SelectObject(IntPtr hdc, IntPtr hgdiobj); [DllImport("GDI32.dll")] public static extern bool DeleteObject(IntPtr hObject); }

  • R: ca plotting text attributes

    - by chasec
    Does anyone know of a way to control the font size/color/weight of the row and column names when plotting a correspondence plot with the ca package? The following code will produce a very nice looking chart, though if there were more attributes (very heavy, super heavy, something more than super heavy) or more classes of workers (peons, underlings, etc) then the graph will get a little cluttered and hard to tell what was what. It would be nice if you could list all the attributes in a separate color than the categories of workers. library(ca) data("smoke") plot(ca(smoke) , map = "symmetric" , what =c("active","active") , mass = c(T,T) , contrib = "absolute" , col = c("red","blue") , pch = c(15,17,15,17) , labels = c(2,2) , arrows = c(T,F) ) Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a way to reproduce something along these lines with ggplot2? I didn't find anything on the website that seemed comparable, but I don't know much about the package. Thanks, -Chase

  • SQL Operators as text in where clause

    - by suggy1982
    I have the following table, which is used for storing bandings. The table is maintained via a web frontend. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Banding]( [BandingID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [ValueLowerLimitOperator] [varchar](10) NULL, [ValueLowerLimit] [decimal](9, 2) NULL, [ValueUpperLimitOperator] [varchar](10) NULL, [ValueUpperLimit] [decimal](9, 2) NULL, [VolumeLowerLimitOperator] [varchar](10) NULL The operator fields store values such as < = <=. I want to get to a position where I can use the operators values stored in the table in a case statement in a where clause. Like this. SELECT * FROM table WHERE CASE ValueLowerLimitOperator WHEN '<' THEN VALUE < X WHEN '>' THEN VALUE > X END rather than having to write mutiple case or if statements for each permutation. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can decode the operators values stored in the table as part of my query and then use them in a case/where statement?

  • ASP.net MVC 3 adding arbitrary text to the end of an ActionLink

    - by infensus
    Hi I have a question about Html.ActionLink. Imagine: @Html.ActionLink(item.title, "Singlet", new { id = item.blog_id }) produces http://[url]/[controller]/Singlet/[id] But what if I want to suffix some more arbitrary data at the end? For example: http://[url]/[controller]/Singlet/[id]/#comments To jump to the comments div. I know I can just make the string myself with something like: @( new HtmlString(String.Format("<a href=\"Blog/Singlet/{0}/#comments\">link to comments</a>", item.blog_id)) ) But I am hoping there is a cleaner way, perhaps with ActionLink? Thanks

  • PHP regular expression

    - by Ferol
    such text: $text = ' href="http://yahoo.com" target="_blank"> link text </a> text... text... <br> text...'; // $text = ' text... <a href="http://yahoo.com" target="_blank"> link text </a> text... text... <br> text...'; and such regular expression: preg_match_all('/^(.*)(<.+>)(.*)(<\/.+>)(.*)$/',$text,$matches); what I want, - to check if text matches the regular expression. If yes, then $matches should contain parts of string above, if not (as I guess) it should contain four zero-length arrays. something is wrong, but I can't find, what actually is?

  • How to place text on top of image in ReportViewer

    - by Christoffer
    I feel very silly asking this, since it seems like it just should work, but I cannot make it work and cannot find anything in the documentation about this. The problem: I'm developing an application in Visual Studio 2010 that is utilizing ReportViewer, rendering the report locally. In the report designer, I place a textbox on top of an image. This looks fine in the designer, but when rendering the report, the textbox is rendered below the image. Now, before you suggest it, I have tried placing a textbox on top of a rectangle (or other control) with the BackgroundImage property set. This works. But: I cannot find a way to rescale the background image to fit the control. Setting a different dpi for the background image does nothing. Simply rescaling the image to a different resolution is not an option, since I eventually want to print the report. Does anybody have a solution to this?

  • replacing text within quotes until next quote

    - by Jordan Trainor
    String input = "helloj\"iojgeio\r\ngsk\\"jopri\"gj\r\negjoijisgoe\"joijsofeij\"\"\"ojgsoij\""; This is my current code that works but iv added some code that has to run before this which makes some '"' split onto another line thus making the code below obsolute unless under certain cirumstances the '"' is not put onto the next line. firstQuote = input.IndexOf("\""); lastQuote = input.LastIndexOf("\""); input = input.Substring(0, firstQuote) + "<span>quote" + input.Substring(firstQuote + 1, lastQuote - (firstQuote + 1) + "quote</span>" + input.Substring(lastQuote + 1, lines.Length - (lastQuote + 1); How could I change the input string from input = "helloj\"iojgeio\r\ngsk\\"jopri\"gj\r\negjoijisgoe\"joijsofeij\"\"\"ojgsoij\""; to input = "helloj(<span>quoteiojgeio\r\ngsk\\"jopriquote</span>gj\r\negjoijisgoe<span>quotejoijsofeijquote</span>quote<span>quote</span>ojgsoij<span>quote</span>";

  • Indent or comment several text lines with VI

    - by Werner
    Hi, can vim or vim be used to comment or indent at the same time a number of lines? For instance: for item in Lista: ind = int(floor(1.0*(item-lmin)/width)) if ind==nintervals: ind=ind-1 print item,ind comment it to: #for item in Lista: #ind = int(floor(1.0*(item-lmin)/width)) #if ind==nintervals: #ind=ind-1 #print item,ind or indent it to: for item in Lista: ind = int(floor(1.0*(item-lmin)/width)) if ind==nintervals: ind=ind-1 print item,ind Thanks P.D. Is relevant the difference between VI and VIM?

  • IDispatchMessageInspector to log plain-text soap messages?

    - by Dan Thomas
    I've written a WCF IDispatchMessageInspector, so I can log incomming and outgoing messages. But I'm not sure how to get a nicely-formatted XML string to log. My code looks something like this: public object AfterReceiveRequest(ref Message request, IClientChannel channel, InstanceContext instanceContext) { MessageBuffer buffer = request.CreateBufferedCopy(Int32.MaxValue); request = buffer.CreateMessage(); Log("Received", request.ToString(); return null; } The result of this logging includes things like "ampersand lt;" and some sort of binary-encoded data. How do I get something that looks like a standard soap XML document? I know this should be obvious, but I'm just too dense to figure it out. Thanks. Dan

  • Text piped to PowerShell.exe isn't recieved when using [Console]::ReadLine()

    - by crtracy
    I'm getting itermittent data loss when calling .NET [Console]::ReadLine() to read piped input to PowerShell.exe: >ping localhost | powershell -NonInteractive -NoProfile -C "do {$line = [Console]::ReadLine(); ('' + (Get-Date -f 'HH:mm :ss') + $line) | Write-Host; } while ($line -ne $null)" 23:56:45time<1ms 23:56:45 23:56:46time<1ms 23:56:46 23:56:47time<1ms 23:56:47 23:56:47 Normally 'ping localhost' from Vista64 looks like this, so there is a lot of data missing from the output above: Pinging WORLNTEC02.bnysecurities.corp.local [::1] from ::1 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from ::1: time<1ms Reply from ::1: time<1ms Reply from ::1: time<1ms Reply from ::1: time<1ms Ping statistics for ::1: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms But using the same API from C# recieves all the data sent to the process (excluding some newline differences). Code: namespace ConOutTime { class Program { static void Main (string[] args) { string s; while ((s = Console.ReadLine ()) != null) { if (s.Length > 0) // don't write time for empty lines Console.WriteLine("{0:HH:mm:ss} {1}", DateTime.Now, s); } } } } Output: 00:44:30 Pinging WORLNTEC02.bnysecurities.corp.local [::1] from ::1 with 32 bytes of data: 00:44:30 Reply from ::1: time<1ms 00:44:31 Reply from ::1: time<1ms 00:44:32 Reply from ::1: time<1ms 00:44:33 Reply from ::1: time<1ms 00:44:33 Ping statistics for ::1: 00:44:33 Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), 00:44:33 Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: 00:44:33 Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms So, if calling the same API from PowerShell instead of C# many parts of StdIn get 'eaten'. Is the PowerShell host reading string from StdIn even though I didn't use 'PowerShell.exe -Command -'?

  • How do I programmatically translate a LINQ query to readable English text that correctly describes t

    - by eniac
    I am working on a project that uses Albahari's PredicateBuilder library http://www.albahari.com/nutshell/ to create a linq expression dynamically at run time. I would like to find a way to translate this dynamically created linq predicate of type Expression<Func<T, bool>> into a readable english statement at runtime. I'll give a statically created linq statement as an example: from p in Purchases select p where p.Price 100 && p.Description != "Bike". For this linq statement I would want to dynamically generate at runtime an english description along the lines of: "You are searching for purchases where the price is greater than 100 and the description is not bike". Are there any libraries that already exist which accomplish this goal, keep in mind I am using PredicateBuilder to dynamically generate the where predicate. If no solution exists how would you go about building a solution? Thanks!

  • How to extract keywords from a body of text in PHP

  • htaccess, remove text from url

    - by Keiron Lowe
    Here is the email from the client explaining what he is trying to do, we have spent hours trying to sort out this problem but cannot find a solution that works. I am trying to correct a problem with my blog and google “not found” URLs. I thought it might be very simple to correct (!ha!) This is my line of code; RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^www.uk-domestic-cleaning.com/wpblog/tag/?(.*)/HomeMaid%20Domestic%20Cleaning$ RewriteRule ^wpblog\/tag\/?(.*)\/HomeMaid%20Domestic%20Cleaning$ "http\:\/\/www\.uk\-domestic\-cleaning\.com\/wpblog\/tag\/$1" [R=301,L] What I am trying to do is any request to */wplog/tag/ “anything here”/HomeMaid Domestic Cleaning To strip the “HomeMaid Domestic Cleaning” bit off the end, but leave the rest of the request intact, which will then be a valid request. Any idea's guys?

    When I look at gmail on my mobile web browser the password textbox hashes the characters as I type so I can see the actual input as I type before is hashed with an asterisk. So as I enter it becomes, P -- *a -- **s etc.. How is this done? I presume its javascript? If somone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

  • SQL SERVER - Understanding how MIN(text) works.

    - by tmercer
    I'm doing a little digging and looking for a explanation on how SQL server evaluates MIN(Varchar). I found this remark in BOL: MIN finds the lowest value in the collating sequence defined in the underlying database So if I have a table that has one row with the following values: Data AA AB AC Doing a SELECT MIN(DATA) would return back AA. I just want to understand the why behind this and understand the BOL a little better. Thanks!

  • keypress event not being triggered only at start and end of text field in Firefox (JQuery)

    - by rlivsey
    I'm listening for keypress events on an input field with delegation. For some reason, Firefox doesn't trigger the delegated event for cursor UP when at the start of the field, or cursor DOWN when at the end. LEFT and RIGHT work as expected all the time. Directly binding an event listener to the field works fine, so it has to be something to do with delegation. Does anyone know if this is a know issue, I couldn't find anything on Google/forums etc..? $("div").delegate(":input", "keypress", function(e){ // doesn't get triggered }); $("div :input").bind("keypress", function(e){ // gets triggered fine }); Here's a demo which shows the issue - http://livsey.org/jquery.delegation.html
