• Java Swing architecture for flipping through JPane based views

  Hi all, I have done a couple of simple swing based apps with static layout, but now I've run into a problem while trying to create an app containing multiple views which are changed by pressing appropriate navigational button. You could compare the idea to a website so that every view has buttons to access certain other views but this would work inside a single JFrame. I've found that maybe CardLayout (Cardlayout example) might be appropriate solution for this kind of structure, but I'm unable to figure out a way to switch the views from the buttons which are inside of the JPanes that I've implemented in their separate classes, Of course one way would be to instantiate everything in the parent class like in the small java tutorial example, but this isn't quite clean nor modular for multiple views, isn't it. How can this be implemented so that I can access the view switching method?

  Hi all I am using sql server 2005 reporting service to generate report base on a database. There are two columns which are datetime type ColumnA and ColumnB. The report would display a KPI image on this report by comparing these two columns.Below is the expression for selecting image SWITCH(DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)<0,"kpi_r", DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)>0,"kpi_g", DateDiff("d",Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value)=0,"kpi_y") For most of the records, the image is correct. Only for one record, the result is very strange. For this record ColumnA=2010-04-23 08:00:00 ColumnB=2010-04-22 17:00:00 It would display kpi_r, it displayed kpi_y. I have checked the value of DateDiff(d,Fields!ColumnA.Value,Fields!ColumnB.Value) in the SSMS, the value is -1. Why does it display kpi_y? Does anyone meet this problem before? Best Regards,

  Hi I'm stuck on a problem and if possible I will need help from the community. I'm not looking for a ready-made solution, but something which would help me to produce the result. I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Here an example of a JSON object: [ { "name": "my checkbox name", "type": "checkbox", "value": "one,two,three" } { "name": "my edit text", "type": "text", "value": "" } ...] This JSONObject could be totally random. I could have 2 text views, 3 select menus, 1 text view and so on. The goal is to iterate over this JSONObject and create the appropriate elements within my android code. To produce the result I've thought of a simple switch which would render one by one my different JSONObject to an android widget. But after that how could I have access of every property of every widget rendered? Thank you.

• jquery animating different img widths

  Hi there, I've been searching for an answer for a long time with no avail, so it's time to ask. I'm trying to use .animate() to change the size of an image once clicked. The first state of the image would be a thumbnail size, which would animate to the image's original size, then to a thumbnail again. The problem is, not all the images have the same "original" size so I need a way to tell one generic function to switch to the current image's original size. This is my current code which loads on $(window).load: $('img[class=resize]').click(function (){ if ($(this).width() != 150) { $(this).animate({width: '150px'}, 400); } else { $(this).animate({width: ''}, 400); } }); Now this obviously doesn't work the way I want it, because .animate() thinks when I say width: '' I want to make the width = 0. Any suggestions how I should go about this?

• how does teamviewer find my computer even if my comp. behind of the firewall and firewall isn't conf

  Did you use teamviewer? (comic question i know... Who doesn't use it?) Do you have any idea how does teamviewer make connection even if i am behind the router, firewall, switch and my local firewall..? I'm trying to imagine a connection that is between remote machinge and my computer. Remote machine is sending the packets (and its header (for instance, destination IP, message body)) to me but it only knows my id number(which is given by my local teamviewer application). And this packets are reaching to my computer even if there is a juniper firewall (and also my windows firewall). What kind a message body is recieving by computer? (of course it is not like xml, text, html, excel :) Do you have any idea? PS. Please share your knowledge like you are explaining to beginner level user.

• How do you mentally handle going from writing managed to non-managed code?

  ~80% of the code I write is in C#. The other ~20% is in C++. Whenever I have to switch from C# to C++, it takes me quite a while to mentally "shift gears" to thinking in C++. I make simple mistakes using pointers and memory allocation that I would not have made when I was in university. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience something similar and if so, what do you do to cut down on the time this wastes?

  Code base is littered with code like this: BaseRecord record = // some BaseRecord switch(record.source()) { case FOO: return process((FooRecord)record); case BAR: return process((BarRecord)record); case QUUX: return process((QuuxRecord)record); . . // ~25 more cases . } and then private SomeClass process(BarRecord record) { } private SomeClass process(FooRecord record) { } private SomeClass process(QuuxRecord record) { } It makes me terribly sad. Then, every time a new class is derived from BaseRecord, we have to chase all over our code base updating these case statements and adding new process methods. This kind of logic is repeated everywhere, I think too many to add a method for each and override in the classes. How can I improve this?

• WPF tabswitch/ render takes too much time..

  I have a WPF application with many tabs.. in one tab.. i make a verycomplex vector drawing consisting of thousands of drawing visuals.. (this represents a machine and all elements need to be interactable..) It takes 3/4 seconds for drawing this for the first time..After the first draw it should be done.. The problem is if i switch to another tab and comeback, it takes atlease 2,3 seconds to show the tabpage with drawing again.. Since there is no redraw, why should it take so much time..?

  I'm writing an application that sends files over network, I want to develop a custom protocol to not limit myself in term on feature richness (http wouldn't be appropriate, the nearest thing is the bittorrent protocol maybe). I've tried with twisted, I've built a good app but there's a bug that makes my GUI blocking, so I've to switch to another framework/strategy. What do you suggest? Using raw sockets and using gtk mainloop (there are select-like functions in the toolkit) is too much difficult? It's viable running two mainloops in different threads? Asking for suggestions

• coldfusion class path for multiple services - only recognizing first directory

  Hi, I am trying to use multiple web services on a single CF page. I have entered the stubs directory for each of the web services in the ColdFusion Class Path within administrator server settings java and jvm paths are listed separated by commas: c:\coldfusion9\stubs\ws1,c:\coldfusion9\stubs\ws2 for some reason, only the web service whose stub path is listed first will work. When I try to call the second web service, I get a "web service operation ... cannot be found" but if i switch the order of paths listed in the admin settings and restart the service, the web service listed first now will work. any ideas on how to manage multiple web services and their stubs ? thanks!

• Are macro definitions compatible between MIPS and Intel C compiler?

  I seem to be having a problem with a macro that I have defined in a C program. I compile this software and run it sucessfully with the MIPS compiler. It builds OK but throws the error "Segmentation fault" at runtime when using icc. I compiled both of these on 64 bit architectures (MIPS on SGI, with -64 flag and icc on an intel platform). Is there some magic switch I need to use to make this work correctly on both system? I turned on warnings for the intel compiler, and EVERY one of the places in my program where a macro is invoked throws a warning. Usually something along the lines of mismatched types on the macro's parameters (int to char *) or some such thing.

  Hi there, I have an old MySQL 4.1 database with a table that has a few millions rows and an old Java application that connects to this database and returns several thousand rows from this this table on a frequent basis via a simple SQL query (i.e. SELECT * FROM people WHERE first_name = 'Bob'. I think the Java application uses client side prepared statements but was looking at switching this to the server, and in the example mentioned the value for first_name will vary depending on what the user enters). I would like to speed up performance on the select query and was wondering if I should switch to Prepared Statements or Stored Procedures. Is there a general rule of thumb of what is quicker/less resource intensive (or if a combination of both is better)

• cross domain DOM access and manipulation in Java ?

  In my Java app, how can I incorporate the browser (which loads and renders URLs) in Swing and access it's DOM and manipulate HTML ? How can you embed such browser in a Rich Internet Application and access it's DOM ? More specifically, Vaadin ? Is there a HTTP proxy class that can load an external URL, and render it to the user ? This was what I was doing on LAMP stack....but I want to switch to Vaadin or some Java web framework where I can just use Java to do everything from server-side to client-side logic design, so I can focus more on application logic. • Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

  I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!

• How to handle inputs in a C shell program during exec

When executing commands like vi or calc which require input from the terminal , the command is getting executed and is waiting for the input from the user. But I am unable to give any input on the screen. How should the input be handled during the fork and exec. • Trouble refreshing UITableView

  I'm trying to develop a basic GPA Calculator. I have an AllCourses class that holds Course objects. I have an AllCourses object in my CalcAppDelegate. In my ThirdViewController I can successfully update the number of Courses in my AllCourses object. However, the problem I'm having is that when I switch to the RootViewController the UITable isn't being repopulated with the updated Courses that were added. I tried [self reloadData] in the viewWillAppear in my RootViewController but it caused my app to close. I didn't use IB to create the views so I think it could be the case that I don't have things hooked up correctly. I did it programatically. Does anyone see anything I'm missing in my code?   Hi, I am trying to read the xml document using XDocument method . but i am getting an error when xml has <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> When i removed encoding manually.It works perfectly. I am getting error " There is no Unicode byte order mark. Cannot switch to Unicode. " i tried searching and i landed up here-- Why does C# XmlDocument.LoadXml(string) fail when an XML header is included? But could not solve my problem.   I have a listener class that accepts GUI change events in one method. The incoming event objects have a superclass of a type of GUI Event, the behaviour should depend on the dynamic type of the incoming variable. I wanted to do do lots of methods like: handleGUIEvent(EventChangedX event) handleGUIEvent(EventChangedY event) I am using a single event listener and receiving objects of various types but the behaviour should be different for each. What would you do? I do not want to use a switch statement as this would get unmaintainable.

  XNA If I have a button class, and I have a buttonManager class that manages what buttons to be drawn to the screen depending on what the current game state is (main menu, in game, etc), how do I organize my code so that when I click on a button, it takes the user to a different screen.   I'm having some issues with jqueryui tabs and linking to certain tabs on another page. Basically, each page has tabs, and all are navigational via drop down at the top, with each 'tab' being available in the drop down. Currently I'm able to text-link, but only within the page I'm on, and I'm just lost on the getting it to work correctly from page to page. • How can I configure Xcode to put '{' where I want it in generated files

  I know this is a fairly contentious issue amongst programmers, but when developing I like my IDE to position the opening curly bracket underneath the method/interface/control declaration, for illustrative purposes: - This is how Xcode automatically generates skeleton methods with the { at the end: - -(void) isTrue:(BOOL)input { if(input) { return YES; } else { return NO; } } This is how I like to lay out my code (which I believe is called the Allman style): - -(void) isTrue:(BOOL)input { if(input) { return YES; } else { return NO; } } I'm just wondering if there's any configuration switch in Xcode to enable this style of development? It's really annoying when typing out if/else statements as it tends to auto-complete the else clause with the { at the end of the line which just looks silly if you like developing with them underneath. Or am I being unreasonable? Is Objective-C supposed to adhere to a standard defined by Apple?
