• 301 redirects mirrored domain

  I'm redesigning a site for a friend on my localhost. His old site is an .asp based site and we're replacing it with a WordPress site on LAMP hosting. The old site sits on domain A and also has another domain, domain B parked on top of it mirroring it. Google has picked up domain B for most of his search engine results and yahoo and bing etc have picked up domain A. The plan is to 301 redirect the the old pages of his site on domain A to the new WordPress versions and park domain B on top of it like before. My question is, will this work, if not what would be a better way to approach it? We'd prefer not to lose any of the search engine listings in the redesign, and the search engines don't appear to have penalized him for duplicate content. Thanks very much in advance!

• What web hosts support multi-domain SSL?

  For Consideration - Please do not close or refer this question to: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? The above link does not refer to SSL certificates in any manner. This question has a very specific objective of listing known web hosts that support this new SSL technology. If I'm not mistaken, multi-domain (not wildcard) SSL is a relatively new technology that is not hugely supported or well-known/advertised yet? I'm having a difficult time discovering which web hosts support the technology (again because it's not popular enough yet to advertise on feature lists).   As I know, maps.google.com or mail.google.com all comes under the same domain and its all are subdomain. Entire web treats these subdomain as the part of main domain and they have same Alexa rank, PageRank and all. But in another hand, take a look on blogspot.com/wordpress.com/webs.com; these are different sites but blogs or websites under those domains are treated as different sites. Its new URL, all have different PageRank and Alexa rank as well. Tts about millions of subdomains under those few domain, have almost similar IP address, hosting and CMS, still why they are called different domains?

• Keeping rackspace vserver alive

  It appears to me that rackspace somehow freezes cloud VMs after some idle time. This means the first page request to a php page takes much longer to respond than the subsequent requests. This is in some cases good, in other cases not acceptable. I am actually querying a machine with wget from a different host now to keep it "alive". But I wonder what frequency would be necessary. Does anyone know the time period after which they send a VM to "sleep"? I guess it would be some minutes. EDIT: There is absolutely no caching involved on the php site. It just recently moved from another vhost and there was never such latency on the first request.

• Finding/hiring help with server administration

  I need to install the fileinfo extension for PHP on my server. My hosting service does not support help with this. I know I could learn it and do it myself, but since I am an independent contractor and I know that server administration is the weakest part of my abilities, a DIY approach is going to cost me a lot more time than I can afford. What is the best way to go about hiring a trustworthy contractor to either install the fileinfo extension for me or to train me in how to do this. Thank-you.

• PageRank sharing between domains?!

  I own three domains, say.. example.com, example.in, example.co.in I have bought the .in and .co.in TLDs only to protect the brand. But I have this question: If I make the other two also point to my hosting so that regardless of which one the user types, they are taken to the same website, will the PageRank be split into three and will each domain have one third the actual PR value? What should I do with the other two domains? Where should I point them to, if I don't intend to use them at all (i.e., what should I give in place of the ns1.myprovider.com, ns2.myprovider.com etc..?)

• OpenStack: How to make Cloudify use the floating IP instead of the fixed one?

  I have a problem with Cloudify (both 2.5 and 2.6-rc release). I have an All-In-One Openstack 2013.1.1 setup and I'm trying to use Cloudify to bootstrap a cirros 0.3.1 vm. My quantum configuration is: pool of fixed ip (10.0.0.0/24) for vm management; pool of floating ip (192.168.1.170-190) taken from 192.168.1.1/24 (my lan) When I deploy a vm first, an ip from 10.0.0.0/24 is given (I cannot reach it from my PCs because it is only for vm management) and then I associate a floating ip with which I can ping (and ssh) the deployed machine. The problem is when I do: bootstrap-cloud openstack because Cloudify stay forever into "attempting to access management vm 10.0.0.3" and this is due to the fact that 10.0.0.3 is not reachable. What can I do to get Cloudify take the floating ip instead of the fixed one?

I am confident that our region has many professional developers as well as many graduating students whom who really benefit from a conference. I would like to ask the following questions: What steps or advice would one take if the task was given to set up a local developers conference? What would the costing look like? (excluding building/hosting of website(s)) How would one build interest and promote this? How would I approach, Local Companies & Universities to collaborate with them? I'm not just aiming this question to users who may have experience in setting up such conferences (but are highly welcome). Rather how would you attack this if you was tasked with this?
