  • Hosting advice for a write-heavy dynamic website

    I have built a website using PHP and MySQL and now I am looking for a hosting service. I am expecting about a 1000 users registering and about 5-10k pageviews/day in a week's time. So which host should I opt for? It will let users submit contents of type blobs and submit around 10 pictures per users. I hope that traffic will increase so can justhost's or bluehost's shared hosting serve that purpose or should I go for more dedicated ones. Basically the site is write heavy and there are average 2-3 MySQL queries per page and it is quite dynamic. So depending on these requirements which web hosting will be optimal for me.

I notice that there are /etc/my.cnf file which contain the content (only two lines): innodb_buffer_pool_size = 1G max_allowed_packet = 512M While there is also /etc/mysql/my.cnf with a long content like: # The MySQL database server configuration file. ... ... For me, it looks like both are configurations for MySQL server, but Why there are two my.cnf in different locations, can't the content to be merged to one my.cnf ? What is the purpose to have seperate my.cnf for MySQL server ?

    I'm developing a telecom messaging platform in C, and I'm going to need multiple processes to be working with MySQL DB. How can I make two processes read/write to/from a Mysql DB and, if/when one of them goes down, get the other to seamlessly take over the work until the dead process gets back to work? I was thinking/googling some options and am stuck in place where I don't know which one to choose. What I think so far is that table lock is not the best option to go for, as it will stall the other process until the table is unlocked. The other option is to use row-level locks or manual locks, but I can't find the best way to do it.

    I'm trying to run mysqld inside chroot environment. Herez the situation. When I run mysqld as root, I can connect to my databases. But when I run mysql using init.d scripts, mysql gives me an error. $ mysql --user=root --password=password ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) So I guess, I need to change file permissions of some files. But which ones? Oh and in case you are wondering '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' is owned by 'mysql' user.   • Percona system tables corrupted.

    I am having problems setting up mysql replication with a percona as server. accidentally, took a full dump from mysql and restored it on percona and then started,the replication. now when i stop slave and start slave, i am getting the error "[ERROR] Failed to open the relay log './s5-bin.000003' (relay_log_pos 2029993) 110103 9:15:59 [ERROR] Could not find target log during relay log initialization " But show local variables shows the relay_log variable as set in the cnf file.. But the relay-log variable is set to slave-relay-bin alright. I am able to start mysql as a service. But mysqld_safe fails with error "110103 9:19:39 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid' (Errcode: 2) 110103 9:19:39 [ERROR] Can't start server: can't create PID file: No such file or directory " Am now lost as to what is the problem.

  • Recomendation for Webshop with API

    I'm searching for a webshop. The problem with my search is, that the webshop-software of my choice needs to have a useabel API or some interface for external applications. E.g. i need to place orders by an external application or need to get product descriptions or warehouse stock from the external application. I somehow would like to have a webshop wehere the webinterface is just one way to interact with the whole system. There are some other requirments, which have to be fullfilled, but i guess they are kind of common: running on linux MySQL (we already have MySQL-replication and backup in place) i like open source but i'm willing to pay for it, if it's worth it I found some webshops on the net - but perhaps you can tell me, if theres any hope for a webshop with a good API before i go and test all of them, on the first look i didn't find any docs about any interface to external applications for any of my search results.     I've got a server with a LOT of small files -- many millions files, and over 1.5 TB of data. I need a decent backup strategy. Any filesystem-based backup takes too long -- just enumerating which files need to be copied takes a day. Acronis can do a disk image in 24 hours, but fails when it tries to do a differential backup the next day. DFS-R won't replicate a volume with this many files. I'm starting to look at Double Take, which seems to be able to do continuous replication. Are there other solutions that can do continuous replication at a block or sector level -- not file-by-file over a WAN?

    I've been using Linux+Plesk Virtual Server as a web server for a while, but I want to give a try on doing it manually, so my question is: I'll have a server which is: 80GB HDD, 4GB RAM, 1TB Bandwith, 1 Dedicated IP. And I use the following things on my Virtual nowadays: Mail server DNS server Apache + PHP 5.5 + MySQL FTP SSH My question is, without Plesk, can I achieve manually all those functionalities -know that I am not a terminal pro-, actually upgrading some of them to look like that with ubuntu server?: Mail server (with a nice webmail included) DNS server nginx + PHP 5.5 + MySQL + MongoDB FTP + SFTP SSH GIT Server Which ubuntu server should I chose? [EDIT] I almost forgot, I'd like to know how much Bandwith and CPU is using each of my webapps (one per domain usually), and the overall (not just from the webapps, but also mail, dns, etc...) ... usually Plesk does that for me, and I don't know how to measure that without it!

    I just installed phpmyadmin and i am trying to login in /phpmyadminpath/setup. I am greeted by an invite similar to an apache protected folder (log/password displayed in a browser pop-up, not an html popup) asking for login pass. I cannot login using system password(root) or mysql passsword(also root) I already have rails app using this mysql, and i checked the mysql password in the config files. I cannot run any mysql command in my console because of the following error : ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) What is wrong with phpmyadmin and mysql?

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Setup for Apache/MySQL/Perl

    I just got a new Mac and have been trying to setup a local development environment for my perl applications for a few days now with no luck. I'm getting no where fast so I hope someone else who has done this successfully could help. I started by installing MAMP which I thought would take care of everything for me but unfortunately it doesn't take care of some important perl modules. I used CPAN to install all our required modules except that it seems DBD::mysql doesn't install correctly through CPAN.
