  • Stack Overflow-like tag selector for Rails

    - by David Tildon
I want to use tags for a model in my Rails application, and I'd like to have the same kind of tag selection mechanism that Stack Overflow has when asking a question. I.e. I type in 'rails' and it drops down a list of tags that include 'rails', and I can go on to add more tags from there. Is there a plugin that can do this? I'm comfortable putting together the tag model and migrations myself, that isn't an issue. I just need something to handle the AJAX and javascript. I'm using prototype and Rails 2.3.

  • sql charateristic function for avg dates

    - by holden
    I have a query which I use to grab specific dates and a price for the date, but now I'd like to use something similar to grab the avg prices for particular days of the week. Here's my current query which works for specific dates to pull from a table called availables: SELECT rooms.name, rooms.roomtype, rooms.id, max(availables.updated_at), MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 0, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day1, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 1, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day2, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 2, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day3, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 3, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day4, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 4, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day5, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 5, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day6, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 6, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day7, MIN(spots) as spots FROM `availables` INNER JOIN rooms ON availables.room_id=rooms.id WHERE rooms.hotel_id = '5064' AND bookdate BETWEEN '2009-12-10' AND DATE_ADD('2009-12-10', INTERVAL 6 DAY) GROUP BY rooms.name ORDER BY rooms.ppl My first stab which doesn't work, probably because the DAYSOFWEEK function is much different from the to_days... SELECT rooms.id, rooms.name, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 0, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day1, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 1, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day2, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 2, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day3, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 3, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day4, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 4, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day5, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 5, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day6, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 6, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day7,rooms.ppl AS spots FROM `availables` INNER JOIN `rooms` ON `rooms`.id = `availables`.room_id WHERE (rooms.hotel_id = 5064 AND rooms.ppl > 3 AND availables.price > 0 AND availables.spots > 1) GROUP BY rooms.name ORDER BY rooms.ppl Maybe i'm making this crazy hard and someone knows a much simpler way. • How to escape HAML for Javascript in Sinatra

    - by viatropos
I would like to return a list/combobox from an ajax request ("Which on of these do you like?" type thing). I would like to write that little snippet in HAML, which converts it to HTML, but when I do, the page goes blank. I'm assuming this is because the HTML isn't escaped. Is there a way to escape HAML so I can do $("#mydiv").html(response);? Here's the method: post "/something" do # process... haml :"partials/_select", :layout => false, :locals => {:collection => choices} end ... the haml template: %select - collection.each do |item| %option{:value => item.to_s}= item.to_s ... and the javascript: success: function(responseText, statusText, xhr, $form) { $(".dialog_content").append(responseText); } I have tried the sinatra_more plugin and the escape_javascript method, but there's problems with the haml buffer in sinatra. Any ideas?

  • Nested Forms not passing belongs_to :id

    - by Bill Christian
I have the following model class Project < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :assignments, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} has_many :members, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} accepts_nested_attributes_for :members, :allow_destroy => true end class Member < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :project belongs_to :person belongs_to :role has_many :assignments, :dependent => :destroy, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} accepts_nested_attributes_for :assignments, :allow_destroy => true validates_presence_of :role_id validates_presence_of :project_id end and I assume the controller will populate the member.project_id upon project.save for each nested member record. However, I get a validation error stating the project_id is blank. My controller method: def create # @project is created in before_filter if @project.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully created project." redirect_to @project else render :action => 'new' end end Do I need to manually set the project_id in each nested member record? Or what is necessary for the controller to populate when it creates the member records?

  • Autodetect timezone in Rails given UTC offset and DST

    - by Jose
I basically want to autodetect a user's timezone using Rails. I can use this JS code at the user's browser (http://www.onlineaspect.com/2007/06/08/auto-detect-a-time-zone-with-javascript/) to send a form with the UTC offset and the fact that the time zone observes DST during summer or not, in the user's time zone. Once I have that info in the server, I want to select the matching time zone. In Rails, I can get a list of time zones with ActiveSupport::TimeZone.all. Also, I can filter zones by utf offset thanks to the utc_offset method. However, I don't know how to filter the timezones that do/don't observe DST. E.g. suppose a user lives in Amsterdam. Filtering by UTC offset will return Berlin, Belgrado, Madrid, etc timezones, as well as West Central Africa. All of them, but West Central Africa, would be appropriate timezones for a user in Amsterdam (as they provide the same time/date), but I need to filter West Central Africa, which does not perform DST in summer. How can I do this in Rails? Also, are any of my assumptions wrong?

  • How do I get the "Install Missing Plugin" yellow bar to appear in firefox when flash is not installe

    - by Janak
My rails website uses the open_flash_graph plugin to generate flash graphs for my clients. If a customer doesn't have flash installed, it doesn't display any messages, it simply doesn't show any graphs. I've noticed that if I go to other websites that need flash, I get a yellow bar at the top of my firefox window that offers to "Install Missing Plugin". I assume something in the HTML lets firefox know that this webpage needs flash. What code do I need to add to my website to make this work?

  • Using JSON with jRails

    - by Zachary
I am currently trying to use AJAX in my application via jRails. I am trying to return a JSON object from my controller, and then parse it in my Javascript. I am using json2.js to do the parsing. Here is the code I currently have: function getSomething() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "map/testjson", success: function(data) { var myData = JSON.parse(data[0]); window.alert(myData.login); } }); } and in the controller: class Map::MapController < ApplicationController def index end def testjson @message = User.find(:all) ActiveRecord::Base.include_root_in_json = false respond_to do |w| w.json { render :json => @message.to_json } end end end The window.alert simply says 'undefined' (without tics). However, if I change the javascript to window.alert(data) (the raw object returned by the controller) I get: [{"salt":"aSalt","name":"", "created_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","remember_token_expires_at": null,"crypted_password":"aPassword", "updated_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","id":1,"remember_token":null, "login":"zgwrig2","email":"[email protected]"}] This looks like an array of size 1, if I'm looking at it correctly, but I have tried just about every combination of JSON.parse on the data object that I can think of, and nothing seems to work. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Generate a controller with all the RESTful functions

    - by Barb
Hello, I am trying to generate a controller with all the RESTful actions stubbed. I had read at link text that all I needed to do was to use call the generator with just a controller name I would get just that. So, I ran "script/generate rspec_controller Properties" and I got an empty controller. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • has_many :through on self?

    - by Glex
I have a User model. A user can be either a dj, a club, or a clubber (this is controlled by the User#account_type attribute). A club can have many djs, and a dj can have many users: enumerated_attribute :account_type, %w(^clubber dj club), :nil => false do label :clubber => "Clubber" label :dj => "DJ" label :club => "Club" end has_many :dj_club_relationships, :class_name => "User", :dependent => :destroy has_many :dj_user_relationships, :dependent => :destroy has_many :djs, :through => :dj_club_relationships, :class_name => "User" has_many :users, :through => :dj_user_relationships However, this doesn't work as well as expected, since Rails doesn't know, for example, that it needs to destroy all dj_club_relationships with club_id when the user being destroyed is a club, and with dj_id when the user is a dj. How can I help rails know about it?

  • cache_money only writing to memcached on creates and updates, and seemingly never looking in the cac

    - by Shane Liebling
I seem to be having some extremely odd cache_money interactions. When I am on the console, and I create a new instance of a class and save it I see the cache misses and cache stores on my memcached console output. Then when the create finishes I see a bunch of cache deletions. If I then try to do any kind of find for the newly created object (or any other objects for that matter) I never see any cache access. This is highly confusing. I could kind of understand if all finds never hit the cache (though that in and of itself would be an issue requiring investigation), but finds do seem to hit the cache when the object is being created (checking for associations and such). Anyone have this experience in the past at all? Any thoughts? AFAIK there isn't really much in the way of configuration options for cache_money, and it certainly doesn't seem like there are any that would be on by default and be creating these kinds of symptoms. My cache_money config is basically straight out of the docs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can Nokogiri Parse a Nokogiri Object?

    - by Jesse J
I'm trying to parse a part of the result of a parse, like this: queries = @doc.xpath("//spectrum_query") queries.each do |query| hits = query.xpath("//search_hit") end But instead of Nokogiri only searching for search_hits inside the query, it searches for search_hits in the whole document. I'm sure there's a different way to accomplish what I want, but doing it like this would be the simplest. Anyone know if it's possible to search just the query object?

  • Any working tutorials for Authlogic?

    - by Mark Wilbur
I've been trying to build my first rails app and have gotten stuck on the issue of user authentication. I've found a number of tutorials for using various plug-ins to do this, but so far every single one of them is out-dated, and as a result, broken! From what I've read, I think Authlogic may be the best fit for me, and I've tried two things: 1) Going through Railscast, episode #160 (which is a tutorial for setting it up) 2) Using Ryan B's nifty_authentication gem with the --authlogic tag In both cases, I get the following error as soon as I try to do anything with a user: undefined local variable or method `acts_as_authentic' for # I believe this is from the User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_authentic end I'm sure I've installed the authlogic gem, and I've added config.gem "authlogic" to my environment.rb Any ideas about what's wrong? Anybody know of a complete and up to date tutorial for adding user authentication?

  • Rails 2.3 uniqueness validation - how can I capture the value causing the error

    - by sa125
Hi - I'm trying to capture the value that's throwing a uniqueness error (or for that matter, any other type of built-in validation) to display it in the :message option. Here's what I tried (didn't work) # inside the model validate_uniqueness_of :name, :message => "#{name} has already been taken" # also tried using #{:name} I could use a custom validation, but this beats the point of using something that's already integrated into AR. Any thoughts? thanks.

  • How to set RAILS_ENV in Aptana Rad Rails?

    - by Hortitude
I'm using Aptana RadRails, and it seems that whenever I do any rake tasks it is using the development environment. How do I tell it to use the production environment? (e.g. db:create sets up my development database. I know I could do a db:create:all, but I'm wondering how to set the environment.) Thanks!

  • Is there anyway to make a Rails / Rack application tell the web server to drop the connection

    - by dasil003
There are many security reasons why one would want to drop an HTTP connection with no response (eg. OWASP's SSL best practices). When these can be detected at the server level then it's no big deal. However, what if you can only detect this condition at the application level? Does Rails, or more generally Rack, have any standard way of telling the server to drop the connection without a response? If not, are there some standard headers to pass in that will accomplish that in common web servers (I'm thinking Nginx or Apache)? Even if there is not a standard header is there a reasonable way to configure that behavior? Is this a fool's errand?

  • Odd Drag and drop sorting error Rails for nested attributes

    - by Senthil
I've got this weird bug when trying to use drag and drag for two models (one nested within another). I've a category model which has many apps. In my category index page, I tried use "content_tag_for" to sort categories and apps within each category. But for some odd reason only the first element has drag, drop enabled. I can drag and drop categories all I want, but I can't drag the app in the second category, just the first category. Copy and paste gets ridiculously hopeless with HAML, so here's a Pastie instead. I made a sample app on heroku for you to check out here. Drag and drag work for both category and app, so I'm guessing it has to do something with the ul or li. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Recommended way to test ActiveRecord associations?

    - by Sugerman
I have written my basic models and defined their associations as well as the migrations to create the associated tables. I want to be able to test: The associations are configured as intended The table structures support the associations properly I've written FG factories for all of my models in anticipation of having a complete set of test data but I can't grasp how to write a spec to test both belongs_to and has_many associations. For example, given an Organization that has_many Users I want to be able to test that my sample Organization has a reference to my sample User. Organization_Factory.rb: Factory.define :boardofrec, :class => 'Organization' do |o| o.name 'Board of Recreation' o.address '115 Main Street' o.city 'Smallville' o.state 'New Jersey' o.zip '01929' end Factory.define :boardofrec_with_users, :parent => :boardofrec do |o| o.after_create do |org| org.users = [Factory.create(:johnny, :organization => org)] end end User_Factory.rb: Factory.define :johnny, :class => 'User' do |u| u.name 'Johnny B. Badd' u.email '[email protected]' u.password 'password' u.org_admin true u.site_admin false u.association :organization, :factory => :boardofrec end Organization_spec.rb: ... it "should have the user Johnny B. Badd" do boardofrec_with_users = Factory.create(:boardofrec_with_users) boardofrec_with_users.users.should include(Factory.create(:johnny)) end ... This example fails because the Organization.users list and the comparison User :johnny are separate instances of the same Factory. I realize this doesn't follow the BDD ideas behind what these plugins (FG, rspec) seemed to be geared for but seeing as this is my first rails application I'm uncomfortable moving forward without knowing that I've configured my associations and table structures properly.
