• Can I mix static and shared-object libraries when linking?

  I have a C project that produces ten executables, all of which I would like to be statically linked. The problem I am facing is that one of these executables uses a 3rd-party library of which only the shared-object version is available. If I pass the -static flag to gcc, ld will error saying it can't find the library in question (I presume it's looking for the .a version) and the executable will not be built. Ideally, I would like to be able to tell 'ld' to statically link as much as it can and fail over to the shared object library if a static library cannot be found. In the interium I tried something like gcc -static -lib1 -lib2 -shared -lib3rdparty foo.c -o foo.exe in hopes that 'ld' would statically link in lib1 and lib2 but only have a run-time dependence on lib3rdparty. Unfortunatly, this did not work as I intended; instead the -shared flag overwrote the -static flag and everything was compiled as shared-objects. Is statically linking an all-or-nothing deal, or is there some way I can mix and match?

• What's the purpose of the lua "stub" dll for windows.

  I'm looking at incorporating Lua into a C++ project, and am a bit confused by the presence of the two binaries (lua51.dll and lua5.1.dll) in the distribution from Luabinaries. According to the docs... In Windows your library or application must be linked with a stub library. A stub library is a library with only the function declarations that will bind your DLL with the Lua DLL. Why? I've never needed stub DLLs before when linking with third-party DLLs?

  Hey all, I have written a code in C# - XML which checks whether a value is there or not in a given XML document and prints the value and the particular tag associated with the value. When we enter the Value of the Inner Text it will look for the value in the document and find it. I dont understand what exception to catch when the entered value is not there in the document. • CLI include paths to run zend framework via cron

  I wrote a command line utility using Zend Framework to do some nightly reporting. It uses a ton of the same functionality the accompanying site. It works great when I run it by hand, but when I run it on cron I have include path issues. Seems like it should be easily fixed with set_include_path, but maybe I'm missing something? My directory structure looks like this: /var/www/clientname/ application Globals.php commandline commandline_bootstrap.php public_html public_bootstrap.php library Zend In public_bootstrap.php I use set_include_path without a problem, relative to the current directory: set_include_path('../library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); If I understand correctly, in commandline_bootstrap.php I need to put in the absolute path, so cron knows where everything is. My file starts like this: error_reporting(E_ALL); set_include_path('/var/www/clientname/library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); require_once "../application/Globals.php"; But when I run it via cron I get the following error: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '../application/Globals.php' (include_path='/var/www/clientname/library/') in /var/www/clientname/commandline/zfcli.php on line 11 I think PHP is accepting my new path, because when I run it command line and dump the phpinfo I can see: include_path = /var/www/clientname/library/:.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php = .:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php I admit the syntax here looks a little strange, but I can’t figure out how to fix it. • Properly design a code editor application

  I'm working on personal project which is basically a code editor. Imagine standard File menu with menu items New, Open, Save, Save As, Save All, Close, Close All. I'm stuck with proper design. Currently I have: A Document class which represents a document - code editing control, respective tab in tab bar and various properties such as Caption, Filename, IsModified etc. A Documents class which represents all open documents. Contains methods like New, Open(FileName), ... The problem is that I can't figure out which class / menu command is responsible for which tasks. For example, with File-New menu command is simple - call Documents.New and that's it. But what for File-Open? The Documents.Open method expects filename as a parameter. So before calling this method I need to open an file selection dialog, let user select files and for each file call Documents.Open(FileName). Where is best place for this supporting code, in menu command, rewrite Documents.Open and put it there? The same with Save actions. Which is responsible for saving? Is it Documents class which uses Document.Editor.SaveToFile(FileName) or better create Save method in Document class? Somewhere in the middle also need to ask user if he wants to save current document... I'm stuck. Any ideas? Edited: The programming language is Delphi.

• MS Word opens documents hosted on WebDav share read-only on Windows Vista and 7 but only if no other

  We have a WebDav server with some Word documents on it. (We are using PHP's HTTP_WebDAV_Server but get the same issue on tests with Apache mod_dav - both use digest authentication, basic auth doesn't work on Vista or later) We have a web page that opens the word documents using javascript like: Doc = new ActiveXObject("Sharepoint.OpenDocuments.3"); Doc.EditDocument(url, 'Word.Document'); which causes word to connect to the webdav server and open the document, bypassing IE and most of windows built in WebDav client. On Windows XP, this works perfectly, and (after prompting you to log in) allows you to edit the word document and save it back to the server. On Windows 7 and Windows Vista, this usually opens the document read only, but not in all cases. After quite a bit of trial and error, we found that it worked (i.e. opened read/write) if Explorer happened to be already connected to a WebDav server. Note that this works with any Webdav server, not neccesarily the one with the document that you are trying to edit. So other than telling our users to change settings on their machine, is there anything we can do in the javascript sharepoint call, or on the WebDav server that will fix this issue. Ps. We have the same problem when launching Word from an HTA file version of our system, with javascript like: wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp = new ActiveXObject("Word.application"); wordApp.Visible = true; doc = wordApp.Documents.Open(url); Pps. • Trying to work with a multi-value array in LotusScript and sort of stuck

  I have to find a way to store a series of variables - MonthYear (the key) and a counter. The purpose of this is to track the number of documents processed by Month & Year. I was thinking of a list but I am not sure how to save the data so that it is readable and able to be shown in a table at a later date. I thought about using a multi-dimensional array - someArray(1,0 to 1) and ReDim'ing it each time I start a new MonthYear and then save it back to a field on the document but am not sure how that is going to play out. Does anyone have an idea of how I can accomplish this? The first dimension will be the MonthYear (key) and the second will be a counter that is updated every time a new document is processed. The key will be based on a field on the document being processed. How can I make sure I am updating the right key/counter combination? How can I retrieve the existing counter from the field on the document, update the counter and then replace the value? I thought about just adding a new element (ReDim) every time a document is processed and than somehow adding up all the counters for each key and storing that in an array, but that just seems real messy. There has to be a good way to do this. Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated
