  • Sanitizing usser input before adding it to the DOM in Javascript

    - by I GIVE TERRIBLE ADVICE
    I'm writing the JS for a chat appication I'm working on in my free time, and I need to have HTML identifiers that change according to user submitted data. This is usually something conceptually shaky enough that I would not even attempt it, but I don't see myself having much of a choice this time. What I need to do then is to escape the HTML id to make sure it won't allow for XSS or breaking HTML. Here's the code: var user_id = escape(id) var txt = '<div class="chut">'+ '<div class="log" id="chut_'+user_id+'"></div>'+ '<textarea id="chut_'+user_id+'_msg"></textarea>'+ '<label for="chut_'+user_id+'_to">To:</label>'+ '<input type="text" id="chut_'+user_id+'_to" value='+user_id+' readonly="readonly" />'+ '<input type="submit" id="chut_'+user_id+'_send" value="Message"/>'+ '</div>'; What would be the best way to escape id to avoid any kind of problem mentioned above? As you can see, right now I'm using the built-in escape() function, but I'm not sure of how good this is supposed to be compared to other alternatives. I'm mostly used to sanitizing input before it goes in a text node, not an id itself.

    - by baaroz
    I have a iframe inside test.aspx,when the user click on a pay button inside the Iframe,the iframe redirct to check.aspx that has same iframe if payment was success on first time, then window.parent.location.href==test.aspx if payment was failed the iframe redirect again to check.aspx,so now the window.parent.location.href==check.aspx while the payement was failed the the iframe keep redirect to check.aspx and the parent location keep changing ,so for example if the client failed 3 time,inside check.aspx I need to do window.parent.parent.parent.location.href to get test.aspx redirect. when the user payment was success ,then I want to redirect the test.aspx but I can't know how much child iframe window he has! I need something like window.parent[0].location.href=success.aspx,so I will be able to redirect the first father window. Thanks for any Help Baaroz

  • Javascript is freezing the browser when running this code

    - by user1420493
    I am trying to get the value of a text input and check if there is any links in it and then take those links and make them into tags. But when I run this code, something is going wrong and it completely freezes the page. Basically, I want it to check for "http://" and if that exists, to keep on adding to the substr length until the end of the string/link. Is there a better way to do this? // the id "post" could possibly say: "Hey, check this out! http://facebook.com" // I'd like it to just get that link and that's all I need help with, just to get the // value of that entire string/link. var x = document.getElementById("post"); var m = x.value.indexOf("http://"); var a = 0; var q = m; if (m != -1) { while (x.value.substr(q, 1) != " ") { var h = x.value.substr(m, a); q++; } }

  • Javascript adding two numbers incorrectly

    - by Scott
    Global.alert("base: " + base + ", upfront: " + upfront + ", both: " + (base + upfront)); This code above outputs this: base: 15000, upfront: 36, both: 1500036 Why is it joining the two numbers instead of adding them up? I eventually want to set the value of another field to this amount using this: mainPanel.feesPanel.initialLoanAmount.setValue(Ext.util.Format.number((base + upfront), '$0,000.00')); ...and when I try that now it turns the number into the millions instead of 15,036.00. I have no idea why. Any ideas?

  • Extracting numbers from a url using javascript?

    - by stormist
    var exampleURL = '/example/url/345234/test/'; var numbersOnly = [?] The /url/ and /test portions of the path will always be the same. Note that I need the numbers between /url/ and /test. In the example URL above, the placeholder word example might be numbers too from time to time but in that case it shouldn't be matched. Only the numbers between /url/ and /test. Thanks!

  • javascript Refresh Div.

    - by Tom
    Hi, I am using this code to refresh the data inside of the div: <script> $(function() { $("#refresh").click(function() { $("#new").load("/new.php") }) }) </script> Except it loads the who page inside of the div, instead of just the information that is inside of the div. How do I make it refresh only the data that is inside of the div? Is there a way of doing it other than putting the information for that div in a seperate page?

  • Javascript: adding methods using prototype descriptor

    - by LDK
    Sorter.prototype.init_bubblesort = function(){ console.log(this.rect_array); this.end = this.rect_array.length; this.bubblesort(); } Sorter.prototype.init = function(array,sort_type){ this.rect_array = array; this.init_bubblesort(); } The code above works as expected, but when I change the init function to: Sorter.prototype.init = function(array,sort_type){ var sort_types = {'bubblesort':this.init_bubblesort, 'quicksort':this.init_quicksort, 'liamsort':this.init_liamsort}; this.rect_array = array; sort_types[sort_type](); } the init_bubblesort function results in an error saying this.rect_array is undefined. I'm trying to wrap my head around why init_bubblesort no longer as access to it's instance's variables.

  • Rails Functional test assert_select javascript respond_to

    - by Macint
    Hello, I am currently trying to write functional tests for a charging form which gets loaded on to the page via AJAX(jQuery). It loads the form from the charge_form action which returns the consult_form.js.erb view. This all works, but I am having trouble with my testing. In the functional I can go to the action but I cannot use assert_select to find a an element and verify that the form is in fact there. Error: 1) Failure: test_should_create_new_consult(ConsultsControllerTest) [/test/functional/consults_controller_test.rb:8]: Expected at least 1 element matching "h4", found 0. <false> is not true. This is the view. consult_form.js.erb: <div id="charging_form"> <h4>Charging form</h4> <div class="left" id="charge_selection"> <%= select_tag("select_category", options_from_collection_for_select(@categories, :id, :name)) %><br/> ... consults_controller_test.rb: require 'test_helper' class ConsultsControllerTest < ActionController::TestCase def test_should_create_new_consult get_with_user :charge_form, :animal_id => animals(:one), :id => consults(:one), :format => 'js' assert_response :success assert_select 'h4', "Charging form" #can't find h4 end end Is there a problem with using assert_select with types other than html? Thank you for any help!

  • asp.net-mvc: javascript caching

    - by Omu
    I'm thinking whether it makes sense in order to increase the speed of the website to do some strategy of caching the js files that are being included ? one idea that I have is to do something like this: [OutputCache(Location = OutputCacheLocation.Any, Duration = 3600)] public JsController : Controller public ActionResult JQuery() { //I would have a ascx with the entire jquery script inside return View(); } and on the site.master: <%=Html.RenderAction("JQuery","JsController");

    - by hashc0de
    Is it possible to read/edit iframe contents(not only properties like src) with scripts that are on page but outside of this frame? I know that is impossible if source is from other site as it would be a big serurity hole, but I only ask whether it works for other content from the same origin.

  • Multifunctioning in Javascript

    - by Starx
    The concept is running multiple functions concurrently. The reason is, I have a page which performs various actions through ajax. These actions includes making multiple backups of new files uploaded in the upload directory. But I want this process to be initiated by a moderator. As this is a very lengthy process(might even take hours to complete), it blocks others ajax requests from executing, until this process complete. I want to execute functions along with the previously executed function parallelly. I am using jQuery's Ajax to sent initiate the request.
