• Windows / Apache / PHP CPU at 100% under small load

  I have a Windows box loaded with Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.2. It runs great if only a few users are on it at a time, but under load testing (50 users for test #1), the CPU climbs up to 100%. Nearly all of this CPU usage comes from httpd.exe. I currently have PHP set up via php5_module, but one of the first things I plan to try next is to use FastCGI instead. Is FastCGI better at handling multiple connections? Any other ideas on what might be causing Apache to run so high?

• FreeBSD 8.2 + Apache 2.2 + mod_auth_pam2: unable to authenticate

  I've installed Apache 2.2 and mod_auth_pam2 from ports, but I can't get local UNIX authentication to work. When I access the protected part of my local website, I do get the authentication request, and with pam_permit.so, it works. However, when I change pam_permit.so to the real thing, pam_unix.so, I get this message in httpd-error.log: [error] PAM: user 'foo' - not authenticated: authentication error This is the relevant part of my Apache config, though I don't think it's the problem as it works with pam_permit.so: <Location /foo> AuthBasicAuthoritative Off AuthPAM_Enabled on AuthPAM_FallThrough off AuthType Basic AuthName "Secret place" Require valid-user </Location> This is my /etc/pam.d/httpd, though I don't think it's the problem either, since it works with pam_permit.so: auth required pam_unix.so account required pam_unix.so So what am I missing? What does it take to have pam_unix.so work for httpd under FreeBSD?

• Finding out what user Apache is running as?

  I want to secure a file upload directory on my server as described beautifully here, but I have one problem before I can follow these instructions. I don't know what user Apache is running as. I've found a suggestion that you can look in httpd.conf and there will be a "User" line, but there is no such line in my httpd.conf file, so I guess Apache is running as the default user. I can't find out what that is, though. So, my question is (are): how do I find out what the default user is do I need to change the default user if the answer is yes and I change the default user by editing httpd.conf, is it likely to screw anything up? • On setting up Apache and IIS to share the same IP

  Hello, There are two different web-apps running on two (physically) different servers on our network... one of IIS and another one on Apache - both on port 80 since two machines are accessible by different IPs on our internal network. Now I want to expose both these services to the world. My idea is to somehow make the incoming connection redirect to the appropriate server based on user's choice of subdomain. Example xxx.domain.com maps to the IIS (Internal IP: 1.2.3.4) yyy.domain.com maps to Apache (Internal IP: 5.6.7.8) To the world, both these servers will share the same public IP. What kind of a configuration am I looking at and how do I go about trapping the subdomain requests and redirecting to the appropriate server? Thanks, m^e

  I kind of screwed up the Apache "stuff" on my Mac. Usually when I visit http://localhost/, I would see the "It Works!" but now it just lists the directory and files inside /Library/WebServer/Documents. When I try to stop/start/restart the server with sudo apachectl stop, I get: httpd: Syntax error on line 68 of /etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so, 10): Symbol not found: _apr_file_info_get$INODE64\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so\n Expected in: flat namespace\n in /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so I don't want to do the MacPorts install, I tried it earlier but... I just want to do it via source code with the usual ./configure, make, make install. Any ideas on how to get this working? Is there a way to totally remove Apache and then reinstall a fresh version? • Run Logstalgia on Remote Global Apache Log On a WHM System

  I work for a small web development shop. We have a dedicated Linux server running WHM. For fun we want to run Logstalgia on a machine in our office. We'd really like it to display information about all the traffic on our server. Logstalgia use Apache's access logs to generate its visuals, the problem I have is that by default WHM does not have an access log for all sites combined. How can I safely configure our server to output a combined/global Apache access log in a place accessible by a non-root SSH user? I am also concerned that this file could get quite large so I think I'd also need to know how to have it automatically shed old information. To make things more interesting I'm a programmer not a sys admin so not everything is immediately obvious to me.

• Send files ending in .mp4 in Apache with HTTP 206 Partial Content

  I am using Apache as web server and the return code is always HTTP/1.1 200. I want to set some kind of handler or use a mod to return HTTP/1.1 206 when the extension of the file requested is .mp4 so it can do video seeking, my web server is already returning some headers to do seeking, but it doesn't work. Is this possible? • Apache localhost problem

  I have set up Apache on my Windows 7 PC. Now I have it working fine on the PC, by going to localhost or the IP (192.168.1.71). However when I go to my Mac I try to connect to it via its IP and it doesn't connect. I have also tried this on another computer. Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.71 Now is there something wrong with the code in the Apache httpd file? EDIT: I have also tried to ping the IP address and it works fine.

• Apache disabled virtual host domains resolve an enabled virtual host

  I have three virtual hosts defined on apache on my Ubuntu server for three different domains. If I disable two of the virtual hosts (a2dissite) and try to resolve those two URL's in the browser, then the one remaining enabled site will resolve. How can I configure apache so that the domains for the disabled virtual hosts do not resolve? • How to benchmark apache/nginx setup

  I am planning to setup nginx as reverse proxy. I will have apache to deliver my dynamic content, and nginx will deliver the static content. My configuration i have now is just Apache with fastCGI. This gives me no configuration problems and runs great. After I have set up nginx I want to run some benchmarks to see if I really got some performance increases, else i will switch back. Does anyone know how I can benchmark this type of setup? Or maybe someone did this already and have some canned results, I will be glad to hear them.

  How can I find out why my Apache webserver crashes? Sorry about my first post. Here is what I am doing: I am running xampp on windows xp. I was working on this tutorial and when i got to page 13 of the pdf version it crashed. I cant see anything weird in my error.log nor in my access log. When i go to my localhost on my machine it straight away crashes. Any Idea's? • Howto manage website and user permissions with apache on Mac os X

  I have lots of different websites in a Development directory in my home dir. While developing, files get saved under my username but websites configured under apache it's permission need to be set as _www user and group. What's the best way to handle this? Do I run apache under a different user/group? Do I run my development tools under a different user? Do add myself to the _www group? (seems like it doesn't work btw) I've just switched to a mac and I'm trying to find a smooth development workflow, so it would be best if i could just run the necessary tools, save some files and be able to test the website without much hassle.   I have an Apache server that serves up binary files to an application (not a browser). The application making the request wants the HTTP Content-MD5 header in HEX format. The default and only option within Apache is Base64. If I add "ContentDigest on" to my VirtualHost, I get this header in Base64. So I wrote a perl script, md5digesthex.pl, that gives me exactly what I want: MD5 in HEX format but I'm struggling with the RewriteRule to get my server to send the result. Here is my current Rewrite recipe: RewriteEngine on RewriteMap md5inhex prg:/www/download/md5digesthex.pl RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/download/(.*) RewriteRule ^(.*) %{REQUEST_URI} [E=HASH:${md5inhex:$1}] Header set Content-MD5 "%{HASH}e" env=HASH The problem is that I can't seem to set the HASH environment variable based on the output of the md5inhex map function. • apache generating to many rotatelogs.exe on Windows?

  I'm seeing some odd behavior with Apache's rotatelogs.exe. On one of my servers I'm seeing multiple rotatelogs.exe counting into the 100's. Normally I usually only see 6 which I can rationalize to the 3 logs I have rotating. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can prevent it from happening. When the rotatelogs.exe processes get up into the 100's everything slows down and Apache is effectively shutdown because it can't process requests anymore. We are using the following line in our httpd.conf file: ErrorLog "|\"C:/Program Files/Apache2/bin/rotatelogs.exe\" \"C:/Program Files/Apache2/logs/error_log.%Y-%m-%d-%H_%M_%S\" 20M" Thanks in advance for the help!

• Apache only transferring partial content from a Samba share

  I have an Apache server running on CentOS 5.3. It currently hosts 12 sites with no known issues. (I say this to point out that up to this point my Apache installation has performed flawlessly) I'm adding a new site where the DocumentRoot of the new VirtualHost is a Samba share. When at the command line of the server I can cp video.m4v ~ and the whole file is copied properly to my home directory. But when I try to access the file from IE/Firefox/Safari/Chrome it only passes back a partial result of 33k. The same thing is happening with my image and audio files. If I make the files local to the server by copying them from the share and then serving them up then the files transfer. Any ideas?

  Hello, Pardon the newbie question - I haven't worked with manually compiling Apache modules (or anything) before. I am trying to get the mod_concat module going. It seems simple enough - just requires downloading the mod_concat.c file and then running: axps -c mod_concat.c This is new to me. Does it matter which directory I put mod_concat.c before running this command? I ran it from my home directory, and I see some new files - mod_concat.la, mod_concat.lo, mod_concat.o, and mod_concat.slo - along with a new subfolder called .libs/ that contains mod_concat.so along with some other files. I'm not sure where to go from here, I have a feeling these files were created in the wrong place. Don't I need mod_concat.so to be in my apache modules directory with the rest? So, I have only one VirtualHost: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias test1.example.com test2.example.com test3.example.com </VirtualHost> And I want to end up with the following log files: /var/log/httpd-access_test1.log /var/log/httpd-access_test2.log /var/log/httpd-access_test3.log I know I can probably do this with a custom log format and split-logs, but I was wondering if there's a way to just have Apache do it for me.

• Apache doesn't autostart because vpn isn't up yet.

  I have a FreeBSD8 server, and VPN connection to my ISP. I use mpd5 and it works fine. A have an Apache server whch works fine, if I start it manually, after VPN is get up. But when I add it to rc.conf autostart, it fail to start, saying (49) can't assign requested address: make_sock could not bind to address I suppose it's because VPN isn't up yet and no IP address assigned to the interface which i set in the Listen directive in the httpd.conf. If i set Listen to the existing 127.0.0.1, it fail to serve wan requests. Is there a solution, either to delay apache autostart or configure it some different?
