    what is the preferred practice when linq2sql using (in asp.net mvc applications): to create "singleton" for DataContext like: partial class db { static db _db = new db(global::data.Properties.Settings.Default.nanocrmConnectionString, new AttributeMappingSource()); public static db GetInstance() { return _db; } } or to retrieve new instance when it needed within using: using (db _db = new db()) { ... } the usage of using brings some limitations on code. so I prefer to use singleton one. is it weird practice?

The order of the operands will always be in the correct order (with value on the right). Here is a relatively simple example.     I have an ASP.NET web application developed in VS 2008 and i have implemented ASP.NET web forms URL routing by following this link http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/051309-1.aspx#postadlink It works pretty good when i run it on the Visual studion IDE.But does not works when i created a site under my IIS and deployed the same files there.I have set ASP.NET version as 2.0 in the Properties window of my application too.But does not work.     While perusing an application that I'm documenting, I've run across some examples of bang notation in accessing object properties/methods, etc. and in other places they use dot notation for what seems like the same purpose. Is there a difference or preference to using one or the other? Some simple googling only reveals limited information on the subject with some people actually using it in opposite cases. Perhaps there is a coding standards section from MS somewhere that indicates the method of madness?

    In silverlight, how do I create a usercontrol whose parent must be of a specific control? Eg. I create control Foo, Foo can only be a child of control FooParent. If in blend, they drag it to inside anything except for a FooParent control, it throws error. Foo should then be able to access properties and public methods of FooParent. Is there an official way to accomplish this?

    I'm trying to set the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities properties in my Info.plist file. My app requires a persistent network connection. If I look at the definition for the "wifi" key, it says: Include this key if your application requires access to the networking features of the device. So: does the "wifi" key indicate that I need WiFi, as the key name would suggest? Or does it mean that I simply need network access, as the key definition would suggest?

    Hi, I'm using CurvyCorners to make my corners curvy in IE, only thing is that when it reads the CSS it takes all the webkit properties and shows me an alert curvyCorners.alert("No object with ID " + arg + " exists yet.\nCall curvyCorners(settings, obj) when it is created.");.     In ASP.NET, binding a DataGrid to a list of objects is super-easy. I end up with a row for each object in the list, and any cell in a given row is bound to a property of the corresponding object. However, suppose one of the properties of my object is a dictionary, and each is expected to contain a specific key. Is there any way to bind one of my DataGridColumns to that dictionary key? I found the recursive method (with LEFT JOINs) and the nested method which I barely understood and again I couldn't apply it to the Drill Down Menu. I found that some people found out a solution with left join and group by but couldn't understand or copy their example ! I would be more than gratefull if you could give me the extact of the query.   • Jquery AJAX and figuring out how NOT to nest callbacks for multiple reloads.

    I have a site with a few containers that need to load content dynamically via AJAX. Most of the links inside of the containers actually load new data in that same container. I.E: $("#navmenu_item1").click(function() { $("#navmenu").load(blah); }); When I click on a link, lets say "logout," and the menu reloads with the updated login status, none of the links now work because I would need to add a new .click into the callback code. Now with repeated clicks and AJAX requests I am not sure how to move forward from here, as I am sure nested callbacks are not optimal. What would be the best way to do this? Do I include the .click event inside the actual AJAX file being pulled from the server, instead of within index.php? Or can I somehow reload the DOM? Thanks for the help!

    How can I get an MP3 audio file to play in iPhone Safari (OS 3.1)? Currently, I am generating HTML e.g. <a href="file.mp3"><img src="sound.png" alt="Play audio"/></a> to play the file on clicking on the nested image. This works on Safari on OSX, but not on the iPhone. There, the content of the file is shown as text, but it does not appear to be a mime-type problem when checked with Live HTTP Headers from Firefox. I have found approaches referenced here. These require the Safari Plugins setting to be on in the preferences, which is why it did not previously work for me.

I would like to get a handle to the actual jaxb context that will process the incoming soap xml message, before it has been unmarshalled into java objects. Then I would like to get the unmarshaller of this jaxb context - the one that actually will be used during the unmarshalling. And then setup some properties of this unmarshaller (e.g. listener and idresolver).

  • objective-c default init method for class?

    Hello, I have two differing methods for initializing my objective-c class. One is the default, and one takes a configuration parameter. Now, I'm pretty green when it comes to objective-c, but I've implemented these methods and I'm wondering if there's a better (more correct/in good style) way to handle initialization than the way I have done it. Meaning, did I write these initialization functions in accordance with standards and good style? It just doesn't feel right to check for the existence of selfPtr and then return based on that. Below are my class header and implementation files. Also, if you spot anything else that is wrong or evil, please let me know.   • How can I modify complex command-line argument strings in Perl?

    I have a command line that I'm trying to modify to remove some of the arguments. What makes this complex is that I can have nested arguments. Say that I have this: $cmdline = "-a -xyz -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -xyz -a-" I have three different -xyz flags that are to be interpreted in two different contexts. One is the -a context and the other is the -b context. I want to remove the "a" -xyz's but leave the ones in the "b" -xyz. in the above case, I want: -a -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -a- Alternately, if I have: -a -123 -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -xyz -a-" I want: -a -123 -a- -a -xyz -a- -b -xyz -b- -a -a- It's this second case that I'm stuck on. How can I most effectively do this in Perl?

  • Different url scheme for Zend Framework

    For our CMS we have a site manager that defines the site's tree structure (sitemap if you want to call it that). A possible url is www.example.com/our-team/developers/chris/ which would map in the tree structure to the node chris, child old developers which is in turn a child of out-team. All this is in place and working the the wonderfully implemented Nested Set behavior in doctrine. The only thing is that i'm struggling to get it working in the front end of our website. By default Zend framework's request object expects controller/action/key/value/key/value/... URI scheme but that isn't quite fitting my needs, i would like to skip the whole controller, action and key part and restrict to values. Something like value1/value2/value3/value4/... Anyone has an idea how to accomplish this?

    In Asp.Net MVC 2.0, at least in the beta, you could decoration your model classes with data annotation attributes and enable client side validation that leverages that criteria defined in your model data annotation attibutes. Is there anything similar for Java Spring MVC 3.0? Is it possible to inject a component into the response pipeline that can inspect the model's annotated properties and render client side validation logic to complement the server side validation logic that is invoked prior to the controller handling the request?
