• Invisible Delimiter for Strings in HTML

  I need a way to identify certain strings in HTML markup. I know what the strings are, but it is possible that they could be substrings of other strings in the document. To find them, I output a special delimiter character (currently using \032). On page load, we go through the HTML and record the location of the strings, and remove the delimiter. Unfortunately, most browsers show the delimiter character until we can find and remove them all. I'd like to avoid that if possible. Is there a character or string that will be preserved in the HTML content (so a comment wont work) but wont be visible to the user? It also needs to be something that is fairly unlikely to appear next to a string, so something like &nbsp; wouldn't work either. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to mention that the strings will be in attributes, so any sort of tag wont work.

• Devise authenticating with username instead of email

  I'm new to Devise and have it working fine by using an email address as the authentication key. However, I have a use case which requires a username instead and I can't seem to get it working. I've added a string column, "username" to the users table, changed the fields from :email to :username in the sign-in form, and have changed the authentication key in devise.rb to :username yet when I go to sign in I'm met with this prompt: "Please enter an email address".   I try to use this: xml2struct when I use this xml: <XMLname attrib1="Some value"> <Element>Some text</Element> <DifferentElement attrib2="2">Some more text</DifferentElement> <DifferentElement attrib3="2" attrib4="1">Even more text</DifferentElement> </XMLname> I can create a struct: test = xml2struct('C:\bla\bla.xml'); (tested it with class(test)) It looks like this: test = Name: 'XMLname' Attributes: [1x1 struct] Data: '' Children: [1x7 struct] But I cannot access: test.XMLname.Element.Text I get: ??? Reference to non-existent field 'XMLname'. Any ideas?

'L' means long in java. so 0L is 0 type Long instead of just '0' which is 0 type Integer. the following error message: stack trace: java.lang.ClassCastException: [Ljava.lang.Long; cannot be cast to java.lang.Long what's the difference between [Ljava.lang.Long and java.lang.Long ? thanks!

  What would be the best way to write Objective-C on the Windows platform? Cygwin and gcc? Is there a way I can somehow integrate this into Visual Studio? Along those lines - are there any suggestions as to how to link in and use the Windows SDK for something like this. Its a different beast but I know I can write assembly and link in the Windows DLLs giving me accessibility to those calls but I don't know how to do this without googling and getting piecemeal directions. Is anyone aware of a good online or book resource to do or explain these kinds of things?

  I am getting this error when I use the Linq expression of var emp = _testModel.Where(m => m.Date == DateTime.Now).Select(m=>m); 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' does not contain a definition for 'System' and no extension method 'System' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?). I have google'd and looked everywhere by I have no idea what it is talking about? It doesn't throw an exception. The only way I found out about this was stepping through the expression.

• How to call a specific, unknown Python object attribute?

  I'm working to create a simple Python script that will ultimately tell you how many blog entries were posted in a given month, and the pyblog app is proving very helpful. However, when I create the blog object, I don't know how to access it's various attributes. • Is there a way to undo Mocha stubbing of any_instance?

  Within my controller specs I am stubbing out valid? for some routing tests, (based on Ryan Bates nifty_scaffold) as follows :- it "create action should render new template when model is invalid" do Company.any_instance.stubs(:valid?).returns(false) post :create response.should render_template(:new) end This is fine when I test the controllers in isolation. I also have the following in my model spec it "is valid with valid attributes" do @company.should be_valid end Again this works fine when tested in isolation. The problem comes if I run spec for both models and controllers. The model test always fails as the valid? method has been stubbed out. Is there a way for me to remove the stubbing of any_instance when the controller test is torn down. I have got around the problem by running the tests in reverse alphabetic sequence to ensure the model tests run before the controllers but I really don't like my tests being sequence dependant.

  I've been writing C# for seven years now, and I keep wondering, why do enums have to be of an integral type? Wouldn't it be nice to do something like: enum ErrorMessage { NotFound: "Could not find", BadRequest: "Malformed request" } Is this a language design choice, or are there fundamental incompatibilities on a compiler, CLR, or IL level? Do other languages have enums with string or complex (i.e. object) types? What languages? (I'm aware of workarounds; my question is, why are they needed?) EDIT: "workarounds" = attributes or static classes with consts :)

  I have two entities in core data (call them entityOne and entityTwo). I have a entityOne<---entityTwo relationship between them. I am now trying to code an NSPredicate to fetch entityTwo objects on the following basis: Fetch entityTwo objects that have a relationship with a specified entityOne object. Filter out those entityTwo objects which have no value for one of their attributes. I am best doing both of these in an NSPredicate or is there a better way? Now, I can find lots of examples of recursive invocation, but I haven't found one of just label concatenation involving passed-in macro arguments. Gas is quite poorly documented, so answering this question is difficult for me. Can you concatenate arguments to macros with other tokens to make single tokens? What's your favorite gas assembler reference?

  Hi, How can I allow SKU be longer than 34 characters (for simple products) for all products? When i add new product(simple) and enter more than 34 characters, Magento cuts it to 34 after saving. In the database the 'sku' attributes ( for quete item,order item,invoice item, shipment item) from eav_attribute table hold varchar(255). For Catalog_Product_Entity the attributed is VarChar(64). In either case, it is more than 34characters. Thus, I could change SKU to 64 characters without making any change in database, correct? How do i do that? I have good understanding of the user side magento code, but not Admin side. Can you suggest me good tutorial on making changes in Admin side that could help me figure this question myself. • ASP.NET Long Process and Sending updates to Browser

  Hello, I've asked this before but I was hoping for another answer and perhaps some code samples because I've been having a difficult time with this. I have an asp.net page. The user hits the "Run" button and I have code IN AN ASSEMBLY, not in the APP_CODE folder that is called and runs a long process that moves product info from a file into the database. While the user waits, I would like them to see status updates like what product the import process in on and status info. I'm assuming I'd break off into another thread and use Ajax but I have no idea how to do this. Some code samples would be very helpful, thanks.

• A general question about compilation and interpretation.

  Hi stackoverflow, I apologize in advance for the possible stupidity of this question. However, the following has been the source of some confusion for me and I know the people here will be able to handily clear up the confusion for me. Basically, I would like to finally understand the relationship between any and all of the following terms. Some of the terms I do actually understand pretty well, but some of them are similar in my mind and I would like to once and for all to see their relationships/distinctions laid out all at once. They are: compiler interpreter bytecode machine code assembler assembly language binary object code executable Ideally, an answer would use examples from Java and C++ and other well-known programming languages that a young-ish student like me would be familiar with.   So I have I think around 36,000 just to be safe, a number I wouldn't think was too large for a modern sql database like mysql. Each record has just two attributes.
