    Ive recently created a "map" although not very sophisticated (im working on it) it has the basic function and is generally heading in the right direction.   • CSS - Positioning images next to text

    Hi, I'm doing a site in which images need to presented next to textual content - a sort of pseudo two-column layout, as the images and text come from a single html source. I've found quite a simple way to do this by putting the images as their own paragraphs and floating them. Would there still be a more simpler way (in regards to html) to do this without these extra paragraphs and by only attributing extra css to images? If the floated image is in the same paragraph than the text, then paragraphs with and without images would be different in width. EDIT: Basically, I'm looking for as simple HTML markup as possible to position images like this. However in IE if the user is in compatability mode it errors and locks up the browser. I do not know enough about the older browsers to know what I have added that is not compatible.   • Text replacement for multiple script/config files

    I am doing some sort of science with a combination of Python, bash scripts and configuration files with weird syntaxes from old C programs. To run different tests, I have to tune (open text file, edit and save) a number of these files, but it is getting harder and harder to remember which files to edit. Also, the tasks are very repetitive and I end having a bunch of comment lines, switching on and off the settings for a specific run. I dream of a tool that can keep a list of files (regardless of the file format) and allow me to centrally choose from a predefined list of "profiles", taking care of editing the script/config files. For example lets say I have a config and script file: config.cfg var1 = 1.0 #var1 = 1.5 script.sct function(200.0) #function(300.0) I would like to instead have auxiliary text files: config.cfg.tem var1 = $$var1$$ script.sct.tem function($$par1$$) and in a central script or even better, a GUI, just switch from profile1 (e.g. var1=1.0,par1=200.0) to profile2 (e.g. var1=1.5,par1=300.0), and the tool to automatically update the text files. Any idea if such a tools exists?

    I've heard that using el.innerText||el.textContent can yield unreliable results, and that's why I've always insisted on using the following function in the past: function getText(node) { if (node.nodeType === 3) { return node.data; } var txt = ''; if (node = node.firstChild) do { txt += getText(node); } while (node = node.nextSibling); return txt; } This function goes through all nodes within an element and gathers the text of all text nodes, and text within descendants: E.g. <div id="x">foo <em>foo...</em> foo</div> Result: getText(document.getElementById('x')); // => "foo foo... foo" I'm quite sure there are issues with using innerText and textContent, but I've not been able to find a definitive list anywhere and I am starting to wonder if it's just hearsay.   • how to filter text of the selected value in drop down

    I have a drop down menu. Has product types. Product types have associated value (from drop down) values correspond to machine groups. So each option should have three variables--Machine name, values, machine group. I can get the Machine name and I can get the machine value (and display them in a different field)...what I have not been able to figure out is how to change the value into the Machine group. jQuery('#MachineName').bind('change', function() { //get selected value from drop down; var selectedValue = jQuery("#MachineName").val(); //populate a text field with the selected drop down value jQuery("#MachineValue").val(selectedValue); What I would like to do is keep that MachineValue but then populate another text field with the sorted MachineGroup I have been trying to run it through something like switch(jQuery(this).val()){ case "236" : newVal = "8"; break; But I don't want to "change" the value I just want to do an "if then" type filter, so maybe something like: '236' => "8", '237' => "5", I just don't know how to properly say "assign the MachineGroup based on the MachineValue" (and then have it populate a different text field) In the end I would have three fields. The drop down, the MachineValue and the MachineGroup. Drop down and value are done, I just need to do Group. (And I can sort Group based on MachineName...just not sure which would be easier)

    I have a table cell where I need to limit the text to a max of two lines. I tried achieving this by placing an inner div with a limited height: div { border: 1px solid #EECCDD; width: 100px; height: 40px; overflow: hidden; } <div> <p>bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla</p> </div> <div> <p>bla bla bla bla</p> </div> However, in this case the cells which have only one line of text are not vertically aligned to the middle. I know there are ways to vertically align a text within a div, but most of the ones I found seemed a bit complicated and/or hacky (like this one), and felt like a bit of an overkill. Is there a different way to effectively limit the number of lines inside the cell, or a simple way to align the text in the way I did it?

  • Assigning jQuery ajax response text to variable constanty returns null

    Hi all, hopefully one of you on this great site can help. I'm having issues with assigning a variable to a jQuery ajax call response text. I have a form which when submited runs my "checkemail" function to varify the email address can be found in a database. If it's found, the responseText == "true", else "false".   • IE7 li with image and text issue - Text . Almost working.

    I'm using an unordered list. With an image to the left and text to the right. I only noticed today that IE7 was displaying this so badly that it wasn't even acceptable. Woops for not realising sooner. I have the given the image a class and the text wrapped in a seperate div. <ul> <li><a href="domain"><img src="http://www.domain.com/img.jpg" alt="img class="footer-thumb" width="40px" height="40px" /></a> <div class="recent-post-content"> <p>day date time</p> <p><a title="Content title" href="http://www.domain.com/contentitle &raquo;</a></p> </div></li></ul> What's happeninig so far is that it is perfect in every browser except in IE7 where the images are exactly where they should be but the class "recent-post-content" is all pushed up one exactly one image ([li] height) above so the last image doesn't have any text beside it and the first image ([li]) has its "recent-post-content" above it. I guess it's something simple but after getting this far on my own I thought it best to try and get some advice to fix the last little bit. Any ideas? Thanks

    I have a single table called "Indexes", it contains one nvarchar and three ntext columns (all Full Text Indexes). Index is up to date. CONTAINSTABLE(Indexes, *), 'test', 5) //5 results No matter what I change the above keyword too, it only returns the first 3-5 results. It should roughly return 90-120 results, for the above query. SELECT count(*) FROM Indexes WHERE [Description] like '%test%' //122 results How would I start to troubleshoot this problem?

    I'm making a web application that uses the data in the sys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document. I'm interested how many times a given term occurs in each string that is indexed. For example, I have a table with a column called comments, the table has various strings in the comments field. When I make that column full text searchable, the dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document is created and I can see the word per document data. Can i do the same thing in mySQL?

    Hello everyone, I am having trouble with a homework question that I've been working at for quite some time. I don't know exactly why the question is asking and need some clarification on that and also a push in the right direction. Here is the question: (2) Solve this problem using one single subscripted array of counters. The program uses an array of characters defined using the C initialization feature. The program counts the number of each of the alphabetic characters a to z (only lower case characters are counted) and prints a report (in a neat table) of the number of occurrences of each lower case character found. Only print the counts for the letters that occur at least once. That is do not print a count if it is zero. DO NOT use a switch statement in your solution. NOTE: if x is of type char, x-‘a’ is the difference between the ASCII codes for the character in x and the character ‘a’. For example if x holds the character ‘c’ then x-‘a’ has the value 2, while if x holds the character ‘d’, then x-‘a’ has the value 3.     I have a HTML document filled with terms that I need to put into a spreadsheet. They follow this basic pattern: <ul> <li class="name"><a href="spot.html">Spot</a></li> <li class="type">Dog</li> <li class="color">Red</li> </ul> <ul> <li class="name"><a href="mittens.html">Mittens</a></li> <li class="type">Cat</li> <li class="color">Brown</li> </ul> <ul> <li class="name"><a href="squakers.html">Squakers</a></li> <li class="type">Little Parrot</li> <li class="color">Rainbow</li> </ul> It's very consistent. I need to extract the string within the li.name a (so, "Spot") but only if the type is "Dog" or "Parrot", and put them in a spreadsheet. I've been trying to use Sublime Text's ability to Find with regex, but I'm really struggling, and since regex and HTML usually don't play nice, I was wondering if there is a better and easier way to accomplish this.     Vim automatically inserts a comment when I start a new line from a commented out line, because I have set formatoptions=tcroql. Now if I want to end the comment series I have several options: hit <Esc>S hit <BS> three times Both of these afford three keystrokes, taken together with the <Enter> this means four keystrokes for a new line, which I think is too much. Ideally, I would like to just hit <Enter> a second time to be left with: // this is a comment * It is important that the solution will also work with different indentation levels, i.e. int main(void) { // this is a comment* } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment // * } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment * } I think I have seen this feature in some text editor a few years ago but I do not recall which one it was. Just before the last upgrade, I was able to mount normally. Other PCs on my network are able to mount too, it's not a server issue. How can I analyse the problem? Certain log files? Any help?
