  • Local development using HTML5 storage

    I am experimenting with HTML5 local storage functionality, but was frustrated to learn that the browser won't allow local storage when the file is local. My guess is that the browser (Chrome in my case, FF too) wants to see a domain rather than a file location. Has anyone here discovered a workaround for developing locally? Perhaps setting up a local domain? That sounds like too much trouble. There should just be a developer option in the browser, grrrrrr.

  • How to include file from seperate remote folder in Netbeans (PHP Development)

    I have a PHP project setup in Netbeans (v6.8) where all the PHP files are on a remote server and in a single directory. Whenever I save files locally they are updated on the remote server via SFTP. I now need to edit a remote JavaScript file to add some jQuery logic but the file is located within a different directory on the webserver. How to I add this JavaScript file such that when it is saved or updated it is transferred to it's own location on the server? When I attempt to create the file locally within NetBeans it saves to the same directory as my PHP files. I would like to be able to continue using NetBeans rather than doing this all manually using an SFTP client and a text editor. Thanks in advance.

    Why do we continue to type and click away in IDEs when we could theoretically use hand gestures and speech to develop applications? Think about it - Developing a class by standing in-front of your computer, making some gesture, and yelling "CAR!". This doesn't have to strictly apply to OOP either. We have sufficient speech and image acquisition/ processing and analysis tools available to us, don't we? This seems plausible to me, but I may be overly ambitious. From a conceptual point-of-view, do you see any problems with the implementation?

    Hi all, Im my current project we need to interface with sharepoint to store and retrieve various documents. This has previously been done by referencing the Microsoft.Sharepoint dlls directly and going from there. As I don't know a lot about sharepoint yet I have been doing some research. Most of the examples I find actually refer to using the Sharepoint web services themselves (the various vti_bin ones shown in http://www.sharepointmonitor.com/2007/01/sharepoint-web-service/). I cant seem to find the differences in approaches. This current project was written a few years ago so maybe the web services weren't available then? Cheers

    Hi, I have developed web applications using JSF (myfaces components). But in these days of responsive UI, JSF doesnt fare well. I m hearing a lot about AJAX, GWT, etc. So i wanted your opinion on which web technology/framework should i learn inorder to develop web applications for enterprise products. Some of the web technologies that i m hearing are: ICE Faces (With AJAX Bridge support) GWT extJS and extGWT JavaFX Apache Wicket Jquery AJAX Open laszlo Which of the above or the combination of the above would help me ? Some of the parameters on which you can rate these web technologies are: Ease of learning Maintainability of web application code Community support IDE support - Eclipse or NetBeans Off the shelf component availability (like textbox,table grids, option menus) License - Does it cost for commercial use ? EDIT: Answers collated: Based on the answers : AJAX would be the best thing to start for learning fundamentals, then learn JQUERY. Any component based frame work that can complement ajax,jquery ?   • Jquery datepicker popup not closing on select date in IE8

    I've got a web form with a start date field. I've tied a jquery datepicker to the txt field. Now when I choose a date in FF, the selected date is populated in the text box and the calendar popup closes. However when I do the same thing in IE8, the selected date is populated in the text box but the popup remains open. I've also noticed that a script error is generated as soon as I select a date in the popup calendar. I'm using jquery 1.3.2, jquery-ui 1.7.2, and .NET 3.5. Now I'm not sure if the datepicker popup not closing in IE and the script error in the WebResources.axd file are related errors, but I'm leaning that way. Can anyone tell me why the popup isn't closing?

  • JQuery/JavaScript confusion with Previous and Next buttons.

    I've got some inherited JQuery code that isn't working as I'd think and I'm just not even sure what to research or look up next. The Problem: I've got a few DIVs within the HTML: a container, a "frame" and the content. If the content is longer than the frame, it's cut off using overflow:hidden and a Next - button appears. The next button works correctly. However, there's also a previous button with similar code, but it does not work as expected and just displays whenever the next button does. Whenever either button is hidden, it will not reappear again when navigating back through the "pages". When the I may be overlooking something in the code, but here it is in full.   • jQuery hold form submit until "continue" button pressed

    I am trying to submit a form, which I have had working, but have now modified it to include a modal jQuery UI box, so that it won't submit until the user presses "continue". I've had various problems with this, including getting the form to hold until that button is pressed, but I think I have found a solution to that, but implementing it, I am getting a SyntaxError which I can't find the source of. With the help of kevin B managed to find the answer was the form was submitting, but the returned JSON response wasn't quite formatted right. The response was that the form wasn't being submitted, so that problem is still occurring. So updated the code with the provided feedback, now need to find out why the form isnt submitting. I know its something to do with the 2nd function isnt recognising the submit button has been pressed, so need to know how to submit that form data without the form needing to be submitted again.   • Hover/Fadeto/Toggle Multiple Class Changing

    So my problem is rather simple and complex at the same time. I am trying to create links that fade in when you mouseover them and fade out when you mouseout of them. At the same time that you are going over them I would like a pic to slide from the left. This is the easy part, I have every thing working. The image fades and another image slides. I did this by using a hover, fadeto, and toggle("slide"). I would like to do this in a table format with multiple images being able to be scrolled over and sliding images out. The problem is that I am calling my sliding image to a class and when I hover over the letters both images slide out. Does anybody have a solution for this?   • Select dropdown with fixed width cutting off content in IE

    The issue: Some of the items in the select require more than the specified width of 145px in order to display fully. Firefox behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list adjusted to the width of the longest element. IE6 & IE7 behavior: clicking on the select reveals the dropdown elements list restricted to 145px width making it impossible to read the longer elements. The current UI requires us to fit this dropdown in 145px and have it host items with longer descriptions. Any advise on resolving the issue with IE? The top element should remain 145px wide even when the list is expanded. Thank you!
