  Hello, Are there any web sites that serve as gateways for fully encrypted communication? I mean sites with which I can open a secured session, and then to exchange through them with other sites in a secure way both URLs and content? Thanks in advance. UPDATE Sorry for not being clear. I was wondering if there was a way to access any site over the Internet (http or https) without letting any Intranet-proxy read the requested URL or the received content. My question is whether such a site exists, e.g.: I am connected to that site via https, I send it a URL in a secured way, the site gets the content from the target site (possibly in a non-secured way) and returns to me the requested content in a secured way.

• IIS7 is gzipping files but not serving the gzipped version.

  By following a number of helpful blog posts I have configured IIS to gzip my static files. I have even enabled Failed Request Tracing and filtered to the 200 status code, and I can see the successful compression events taking place as well as the finished headers, which look like this: Headers="Content-Type: text/css Content-Encoding: gzip Last-Modified: Mon, 04 Oct 2010 17:35:08 GMT Accept-Ranges: bytes ETag: "02ef37cea63cb1:0" Vary: Accept-Encoding Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET " However, when I test in Fiddler and Firefox the Content-Encoding header is missing, and the file is not gzipped. This is a similar issue to this question which was never resolved. IIS is generating the gzipped files which I can see in C:\inetpub\temp\IIS Temporary Compressed Files . Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this?

• CLR Profiler Allocated Bytes and XNA ContentManager

  I've been fighting with XNA ContentManager and memory allocations for some weeks because I'm trying to port my game from XNA (Windows) to ExEn / Monotouch (iphone). The problem is that after playing a few levels, my game exits unexpectedly on a real iPhone device (not simulator). Profiling memory usage on Windows with CLRProfile, I found some useful stuff but I also found something I dont understand. If I use 2 ContentManagers (1 for shared assets and 1 for level assets), when profiling, "Allocated Bytes" grows and grows after level through level but Memory consumption measured by Windows Task Manager stays constant (down when I unload the content manager and up again when I load content). Obviously, I contentManager.Unload() when level ends. After a few levels my game exits unexpectedly on an iPhone device. If I use 1 content manager, "CRLProfiler Allocated Bytes" stays constant on Windows and on the iPhone; I can play the game normally and it doesnt exit unexpectedly. I use the same assets level through level. It seems like in ios (iPhone) when loading and unloading the same assets, it allocates memory and consumes all device memory, so the ios kill it. Can anybody explain me how this really works? I've read quite a bit, but I still don't understand what's going on.

• Automatically change resolution when not in dock

  I have Ubuntu 11.04 (yep, I know it's old news) on my Lenovo W520. At home, I have a dock with dual monitors. I have a pretty decent setup - things work almost perfectly (hence the reason I'm reluctant to upgrade... that and I'm not 100% sold on Unity). Anyway, the only annoyance I have is that when I'm on travel, I use the laptop screen. When I un-dock the laptop, I need to manually go into nvidia x-server settings and change the resolution from 'Auto' to 1920x1200, or it will think I have two screens, and my mouse pointer will be able to go way off the left side of the screen. This isn't a big deal, but I need to do it every time I restart the x-server (so if I reboot, or have to kill it, etc...) What would be really nice is if there was a way for it to automatically detect whether or not there is external monitors (which it seems to do already), and switch into the mode I select, depending on which monitors are connected. Is there any way to accomplish this? • Restrict only some plugins to specific sites in Google Chrome

  I am looking for a way to set up Google Chrome so that it will run a certain plug-in (Java, what else?) only on whitelisted sites, but other plug-ins (like the PDF viewer) everywhere. From playing with the policies available for Chrome, I think there are basically two levels of plug-in management: List of disabled plugins/enabled plugins: Controls whether a plug-in exists for the browser at all This pair of policies applies to plug-ins, but not to sites. Default plug-in settings/Allow plug-ins on sites: Controls on which sites plug-ins can run This set of policies applies to sites, but not to individual plugins, and it cannot override the first pair. There appears to be no way to configure Chrome so that some plug-ins only run on whitelisted sites, but others run everywhere by default. I have also looked at filtering content on the firewall/proxy level, but I'm not convinced it can be done securely there. Filtering by URLs (file names) or content types can be circumvented trivially, and identification by content inspection cannot be safe either.

• How do I create an efficient long, pannable, sprite-animated scene in a Windows Store game?

  I am creating my first Windows Store application in XAML, and I cannot seem to find a proper example for the requirements I have. The basic idea of the app is to have a large scrollable canvas which would lazily start animating visible parts of the view as soon as user stops panning over a certain content (with some audio played also): My original idea was to use a StackPanel to add a bunch of custom controls, each of which would then animate itself once visible (with a short delay), but I have a couple of concerns: If the entire canvas is ~50 screen widths wide, is it feasible to load all content at the beginning, or do I need to plan doing some lazy loading during scrolling? For example, when I select a certain region in the Bing Travel app, it seems to lazily load tiles as I scroll it towards the end. Since content is stretched 100% vertically, and these animations are vectorized to be resolution independent, I am not sure if XAML (CompositionTarget) will be able to handle this, or I have to go for DirectX (MonoGame or C++) to get rid of flicker. Even better, is there an example for Windows 8 which uses a 100% vertically sized GridView with custom animated controls inside?

  It would appear that Broadcast Television is often 1080i30 (60 fields/s), and non-movie DVDs (example, instructional or TV shows) are 60fields/s as well, at some lower resolution (480i?) However, almost all video that ends up on the internet, whether in x264-encoded content, Youtube, etc. is 30 frames per second, that is to say , it is progressive scan. However, when you watch content on your TV, I'm guessing the TV converts it to progressive for you, but the end result is a very fluid picture that "feels" quite a bit like 60frames/s. What is the best way to obtain this result when ripping interlaced content sourced from TV or DVDs? Can I rip a DVD that is 60 fields per second to 60 frames per second? I would imagine classic deinterlace filters do not do this, they merge fields and create a 30fps output. I'm using handbrake.

  I am building a brochure-ware website for a company that sells products all across the world. They need the site to ask the user what region they are in before using the site; there are 5 regions. This is because there are different products offered to different regions and each region may or may not want to customize their own content. However, at launch and likely forever, most of the pages will be the exact same minus what is listed in the footer and in the product selection menu. My question is how should I structure the sitemap for this site for best SEO? Should I be concerned with duplicate content penalties and/or cannibalizing the site's presence on the SERP? Some considerations: The client wants to be able to print links directly to regional specific content bypassing any prompt for the user to select a region (to ensure they land on the target page). The client cannot have a 'default' region so the user must have a region specified "Clean" urls are important, but there is wiggle room The client does not want each region to have its own domain There will be a link on the page to allow users to specify a different region The client is not concerned with localization ...at this time Some products are available in multiple regions A quick list of options I am considering: www.site.com/region/page region.site.com/page www.site.com/page?region (no cookie, pages require the parameter. • Transferring users and search engines to a new domain

  I've been asked to take over the maintnance of an existing site that's being reworked. At present it's serving localised content for several languages, but via a fairly unhelpful mechanism that means essentially search engines only have it indexed in English and any deep links will de facto appear in English as well. So, new localised sites are being built under separate domains - not just for this, there's other benefits. What we're then looking to do is to redirect users correctly to the new site, where appropriate. For humans this isn't a problem. We can send them through a gateway page on their first site visit, grab their language preference and put it in a cookie, then redirect them to the new localised content as soon as it's available. For search engines, this isn't so good... In principle I'm happy to simply bypass the gateway page and redirect known spiders to the new site, but this means we're serving radically different content (different URL even!) to human and robot users. Won't this therefore be regarded as cloaking and cause us grief? Anyone know a better way to handle this?

  I have a database table that contains id, filename, userId id is unique identifier filename should also be unique table may contain 10000 records When a user uploads a file it should be entered in database with given rules: If there is no record with same filename, it should be added as it is (Ex. foobar.pdf) If there is record with same filename, it should be added as uploadedName(2).ext (foobar(2).pdf) If there are n records with same base filename (foobar), it should be added as uploadedName(n+1).ext (foobar(20).pdf) Now if foobar(2).pdf is uploaded, it should be added as foobar(2)(2).pdf & so on This pattern needs to be followed because the file is already being uploaded at client side using ajax before sending the details to server and the file hosting service follows the above rules to name the files. My solution: maintain a file that contains all the names and the number of times it has occurred. if a filename that exists in file is entered, increase occurrence count and new name is generated, else add to it to file if the new name generated is in database, add it to file and generate new name

  I recently built a simple web-app deployed over Tomcat. The app uses pretty standard session based security where a user who has logged in is given a session. Sessions work fine in Firefox and Chrome, but require the use of jsessionid in the URL for IE (tested 7 & 8), set to medium privacy. In IE 8, I tried to override cookie handling, setting "Allow all 3rd party cookies" and "Allow all session cookies"- no dice. However, when I run Tomcat on my local machine, IE accepts the cookie, and sessions work just fine. And now, for the HTTP headers. If i continue, the page loads with features as i mentioned earlier. If i Break, then it stays in the jquery.tinymce.js file with a yellow text-background. I have no experience with Javascript/jquery. And new in ASP .NET MVC 4.0, actually this is my first try of web application in .net. I updated jquery from nuGet. What could be the possible ways to solve it?

  Basically I'm wondering how I'm able to do what I've written in the topic. I've looked through many tutorials on AsyncTask but I can't get it to work. I have a little form (EditText) that will take what the user inputs there and make it to a url query for the application to lookup and then display the results. What I think would seem to work is something like this: In my main activity i have a string called responseBody. Then the user clicks on the search button it will go to my search function and from there call the GrabUrl method with the url which will start the asyncdata and when that process is finished the onPostExecute method will use the function activity.this.setResponseBody(content). • The HTML5 doctype is not triggering standards mode in IE8

  i work for a company where all our sites currently use the XHTML 1.0 transitional doctype (yes i know it is very old school). I want to change them all to use the HTML5 doctype seeing as it is backwards compatible. One of the reasons why i want to make the switch is because in IE8 if someone has the developer tools installed then the old XHTML doctype switches the browser into compatibility mode and renders the page as IE7. From reading up on it i was led to believe that the HTML5 doctype will set any page to render in standards mode, but this is not happening when i test it on our staging server it still flips into IE7 rendering mode. The weird thing is if i save the page with HTML5 doctype locally and open it, it is rendering in IE8 standards mode. There must be something else causing it to drop into compatibility IE7 rendering. Any ideas what this could be? • HTML: Place an image on top of another one

  Inside a div, there is a picture that should have 10px margin in all directions from the DIV's border. On the left bottom corner of the picture there is an about-image. The picture is only displayed when its loaded in the DOM through jquery. The problem is that the existence of the about-image dislocates the picture downwards as many pixels as the height of the about-image. I am looking for the cleanest possible alternative to keep the picture inside the DIV and still display the about-image on top of it. Setting the picture as background will not work since i need the picture to load at once. Any improvement on the #about css would be greatly appreciated.
