  • Yii: Multi-language website - best practices.

    Hi, I find Yii great framework, and the example website created with yiic shell is a good point to start... however it doesn't cover the topic of multi-language websites, unfortunately. The docs covers the topic of translating short messages, but not keeping the multi-lingual content ... I'm about to start working on a website which needs to be in at least two languages, and I'm wondering what is the best way to keep content for that ... The problem is that the content is mixed extensively with common elements (like embedded video files). I need to avoid duplicating those commons ... so far I used to have an array of arrays containing texts (usually no more than 1-2 short paragraphs), then the view file was just rendering the text from an array. Now I'd like to avoid keeping it in arrays (which requires some attention when putting double quotations " " and is inconvenient in general...). So, what is the best way to keep those short paragraphs? Should I keep them in DB like (id | msg_id | language | content ) and then select them by msg_id & language? That still requires me to create some msg_id's and embed them into view file ... Is there any recommended paradigm for which Yii has some solutions? Thanks, m.

    We're stuck with using buffers on the SocketAsyncEventArgs object. With the old socket method we'd cast our state object, like this: clientState cs = (clientState)asyncResult.AsyncState; However, the 3.5 framework is different. With have strings arriving from the client in chunks and we can't seem to work out how the buffers work so we can process an entire string when we find a char3.   • CSS div/overflow Question: Why does the first HTML file work but not the second?

    Notice how the first HTML/CSS works when you re-size the browser horizontally. It will shrink no further than around 800 pixels, but it will expand as far as you drag the right edge of the browser. It will also correctly overflow the table at the top and scroll it horizontally. The thing I don't like about the first code snippet is where the scrollbar is. I want it to show up within the borders of the fieldset, so even if I narrow the browser down to 800 pixels wide, I can see both the left and right sides of the fieldset's border. The second code snippet is exactly the same as the first except I add another div tag to the mix, inside of the field set and around the grid. Notice how the top fieldset's width won't correctly shrink when you make the viewport of your browser narrower. Any ideas on why it doesn't work, what I can do to get it to work like the first code snippet? I don't think I'm describing this clearly, but if you run the two side by side, and expand and contract the horizontal edge of your browser windows, you'll see the differences between the two. I'm pretty new to CSS and HTML layout, so my understanding of why CSS handles sizing the way it does in some situations is still really confusing to me. The specific problem i'm troubleshooting is an instance where my rendered page is not including the 'prama no-cache' tag - as you see, it's defined in the upper level header section. Other .js and .css elements are making it into the rendered page so it very confusing to see that the no-cache tag isn't. When execute a 'View Generated Source' - the 'charset' is present the 'no-cache' is not.

    Hi Guys, I'm currently trying to get flip to work with scatterview items, and I'm having some trouble conceptually with it, using a plugin called Thriple (http://thriple.codeplex.com/). If there is a better way of using doing flip animations with ScatterViewItem's, that'd be cool too! Thanks!

Just to make sure that the program logic is correct I added the code print(x,y), just the confirm that (x,y) pairs are being generated.   • Extract known pattern substring from NSString (without regex)

    I'm really tempted to drop RegexKit (or my own libpcre wrapper) into my project in order to do this, but before I do that I want to know how Cocoa developers manage to do half of this basic stuff without really convoluted code or without linking with RegexKit or another regular expression library. I find it gobsmacking that Cocoa does not include any regular expression matching features. I've so accustomed to using regular expressions for all kinds of things that I'm lost without them. I can do what I need without them, but the code would be rather convoluted. So, Cocoa devs, I ask you, what's the "Cocoa way" to do this... The problem is an everyday problem in programming as far as I'm concerned. Cocoa must have ways of doing this with the built-in features. Note that the position of the elements I want to match changes, and sometimes "quotes" are present. Whitespace is variable. Take the following strings: Content-Type: application/xml; charset=utf-8 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Type: text/plain; name="example.txt"; charset=utf-8 From all of these strings, how would you go about determining the mime type (e.g. text/plain) and the charset (e.g. utf-8) using just the built-in Cocoa classes? I'd end up performing a series of -rangeOfString: and substring calls, with conditional checks to deal with the optional quotes etc. Is there a way to do this with NSScanner? The NSScanner class seems to have a pretty naive API to me. Something like C's sscanf() that works for NSString objects would be an ideal fit. Most of my string parsing needs are simple such as this example so maybe regular expressions, while I'm accustomed to them, are overkill?

  • Load testing multipart form

    I'm trying to load-test a Rails application using JMeter. A critical part of the application involves a form that includes both text inputs and file uploads. It works fine in a browser, but when I try to post that page in JMeter, Rails is saving all of the parts of the multipart form as temp files, which causes things to break when it's looking for a string and gets a tempfile instead. It appears that the difference is that, from a browser, the piece of the multipart request that contains a text input looks like this: -----------------------------7d93b4186074c Content-Disposition: form-data; name="field_name" test -----------------------------7d93b4186074c while from JMeter it looks like this: -----------------------------7d159c1302d0y0 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="field_name" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit test -----------------------------7d159c1302d0y0 So apparently Rails sees the former and interprets it as a plain text value and treats it as a string, but sees the latter and saves it to a temp file. I have not been able to find a setting to convince JMeter not to send the additional headers in the multipart form for non-file fields. Is there a way to convince Rails to ignore those headers and treat the text/plain text as strings instead of text files? Or a quick way to put a filter in front of my controller that will strip the extra headers? Alternately, is there a better tool to load-test a Rails application that includes file upload?

  • How to get identities of inserted data records using SQL bulk copy

    Hello I have a ADO.NET dataTable with about 100.000 records. In this table there is a column "xyID" which has no values in it, because they are generated by insertion into my MSSQL Database. Now i have the problem, that i need this IDs for other processes. I am looking for a way to bulk copy this dataTable into the MSSQL database, and within the same "step" to "fill" my dataTable with the generated IDs. Thank you for your answers!

    People, I have been struggling over the two methods - Update Profile Image and Update Background Image I am using EpiTwitter library. I am uploading GIFs, Twitter returns the expected result for update_profile_background_image but returns 401 for update_profile_image , but the image is not changed.     I am getting some unexpected behavior from Html.EditorFor(). It feels like something in ASP.NET is overriding my model values from updating the text boxes and they are just displaying the same old values. I found this issue while trying to learn EditorFor with an IEnumerable.

  • Child objects in MongoDB

    I have been following along with Rob Conery's Linq for MongoDB and have come across a question. In the example he shows how you can easily nest a child object. For my current experiment I have the following structure. class Content { ... Profile Profile { get; set; } } class Profile { ... } This works great when looking at content items. The dilemma I'm facing now is if I want to treat the Profile as an atomic object. As it stands, it appears as if I can not query the Profile object directly but that it comes packaged with Content results. If I want it to be inclusive, but also be able to query on just Profile I feel like my first instinct would be to make Profiles a top level object and then create a foreign key like structure under the Content class to tie the two together. To me it feels like I'm falling back on RDBMS practices and that feels like I'm most likely going against the spirit of Mongo. How would you treat an object you need to act upon independently yet also want as a child object of another object?

Anyway, I am trying to retrieve data from Data.fs and store it in a representation easier to work, such as JSON. To do it, I need to know which objects I should get from Plone's Data.fs. I already got the Products.CMFPlone.Portal.PloneSite instance from the Data.fs, but I cannot get anything from it.   • OSX/Darwin unresolved symbols when linking functions from <math.h>

    I'm in the process of porting a large'ish (~1M LOC) project from a Window/Visual Studio environment to other platforms, the first of which happens to be Mac OS X. Originally the project was configured as Visual Studio solutions and projects, but now I'm using (the excellent) Premake (http://industriousone.com/premake) to generate project files for multiple platforms (VS, XCode, GMake). I configured, ported and built the first few projects without any significant problems, but having ported the math lib, I ran into this weird linking error that I haven't been able to resolve: Any functions used from math.h will fail to link (causing unresolved symbols). For reference, I'm using Premake v4.2.1 to generate projects for XCode v3.2.1, which is building using gcc v4.2 for the x86_64 architecture. (All this on 64-bit Snow Leopard) I've tried to persuade gcc to link and build everything against a 'known' SDK by adding -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -mmacosx-version-min=10.6 to the build command line. Now under normal circumstances, adding -lm should take care of this, however in Darwin, those math libs are included in libSystem, which, as far as I can tell, gets implicitly linked by gcc/ld. I've tried creating a dummy project from within XCode which just runs: float f = log2(2.0)+log2f(3.f)+log1p(1.1)+log1pf(1.2f)+sin(8.0); std::cout << f << std::endl; and as expected, this builds just fine. However, if I put the same thing in the code inside the Premake generated project, all those math functions end up unresolved. Now comparing the linking command from the 'native' XCode project with my generated XCode project, they seem pretty identical (except that my generated project links other libs as well). 'Native' project: /Developer/usr/bin/g++-4.2 -arch x86_64 -dynamiclib -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -Lsomepath -Fsomepath -filelist somefile -install_name somename -mmacosx-version-min=10.6 -single_module -compatibility_version 1 -current_version 1 -o somename Generated project: /Developer/usr/bin/g++-4.2 -arch x86_64 -dynamiclib -Lsomepath -Fsomepath -filelist somefile -install_name somename -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -mmacosx-version-min=10.6 somelib.a somelib2.a somelib.dylib somelib2.dylib -single_module -compatibility_version 1 -current_version 1 -o somename Any help or hints about how to proceed would be most appreciated. I have a situation where a migration to change a column type worked on my local development machine by partially failed on the production server. My postgreSQL versions are different between local and production (7 on production, 8 on local) so I'm hoping by looking at the SQL generated on the successful migration locally I can work out a SQL statement to run on production to fix things....

  • Looped jQuery slideshow with smooth cross-fades

    I'm trying to do a simple rotating image on the home page. Under the hood I'm reading a directory and then populating urls for the images into an array. What I want to do is cross-fade the images. If it was just a matter of showing the next one, it's easy, but since I need to cross-fade, it's a bit harder. I think what I want to do is do the fades by calling animate() on the opacity value of the <img> tag, and in between swapping out the css background-image property of the enclosing <div>. But the results are not that great. I've used tools for more full featured slideshows, but I don't want the overhead of adding a plugin if I can avoid it, and a simple crossfade seems like it should be easier.
