• Visualizing read-only folders

  My application displays a folder structure in a tree. The user can browse the contents in these folders, and drag content into the folders. However, some of these folders are readonly (meaning no content can be dragged into them). I'm looking for a clear way of depicting this to the user, so they are aware which folders they can drag to before actually having to try it, i.e. hover state. Something not too alarming or interrupting (no big red crosses overlayed on top of the folder icons, for instance), preferably a recognized standard. Specifically, we are talking about an Outlook add-in showing a SharePoint folder tree here, but I'd much rather get the answer from a generic viewpoint. From the top of my head, I simply don't seem to know any applications that visually mark readonly folders.

• Jquery Live Validation

  Hello Everyone, After having a search around I could not find exactly what I want, I am looking to validate a form client side using the Jquery library and some form of validation plugin. I was hoping that some one could advise me on whether there are any validation plugins out there that do not use generic error messages, as my form is laid out with no room for these errors, and I also I want the validator to to for correct content as well. Basically I want to be able to check the field on each key press and blur and if the fields validates for it to gain a green border, and if it does not validate for it to gain a red border, any one know of a plugin that can do this? • paypal redirect on successful checkout

  I am trying to get my Paypal subscription to redirect to a custom page after a successful checkout. Before submitting to Paypal I overload the submit handler, run my own function (to store details) and return a unique id. I want to attach that id to my return URL. (as a GET or POST var so to speak) I have turned auto redirect "on" in my Paypal sandbox sellers preferences, but it only seems to re-direct to the URL that I HAVE to put in there. using the <input type="hidden" name="return" value="someurl" /> does no seem to work. I want it this way so that I can capture the user information when entered with a "non-paid" flag, then via the IPN I can update that record with a "PAID" flag, and I want to use the unique ID to tie it all together so to speak. Any advice or a different approach is welcomed. Many thanks!

• is it possible to mix DHTML and Applet for Drag and drop?

  I am working on some example to find if a Div (DHTML) on to Java Applet in a web page. I used YUI JS Drag drop library to make the div as droppable item and made the div surrounding the Applet as Drop Target. When I dropped it in the Div containing Applet, I am Calling some method in the applet from Javascript Drop handler? This is fine, but I have the problem if the applet contains different objects and regions , how to identify which object it is dropped on? is there any other approach to work with DHTML and applets for Drag and Drop? Also, is it possible to write DD between two applets? Thanks in advance.

• How do I check if a user is authenticated with NickServ using POE::Component::IRC::State in Perl?

  I'm trying to test whether a user is registered on FreeNode. nick_info() doesn't seem to return information about this, so I want to use $irc-yield(whois = $nick); and then grab the irc_whois event's reply. The problem is that I want to wait until this event is fired, so I created a global variable $whois_result and wrote a sub like this: sub whois { my $nick = $_[0]; $whois_result = 0; $irc->yield(whois => $nick); while($whois_result == 0) { } return $whois_result; } with the irc_whois handler looking like: sub on_whois { $whois_result = $_[ARG0]; print "DEBUG: irc_whois fired.\n"; } Unfortunately, the event can't fire while the loop is running so this hangs. I'm sure there's a better way to do this, but I'm not familiar enough with this kind of programming to know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have just completed design of Data Access Layer which is generic in the sense that it works using XML and reflection to persist data. Any ways now we are in the phase of designing business layer. We have read some books related to Enterprise Architecture and Design so we have found that there are few patterns that can be applied on business layer. Table Pattern and Domain Model are example of such patterns. Also we have found Domain Driven Design as well. Earlier we decided to build Entities against table objects. But we found that there is difference in Entities and Value Objects when it comes to DDD. For those of you who have gone through such design. Please guide me related to pattern, practice and sample. • Why use multiple OpenGL context

  For rendering I have a current GL context, associated to a window. In the case the application render multiple scenes (for example using accumulation or different viewports) I think it is ok to reuse the same context. My question, indeed, is: why should I use multiple GL context? I red on ARB_framebuffer_object extension spec that MakeCurrent call could be expansive, and in the case the ARB_framebuffer_object extension is present I can render on a generic buffer without using MakeCurrent. Apparently the only reason to use multiple GL context is to avoid to setup context state (pixel store, transfer, point size, polygon stipple...) or to have avaialable multiple render buffers configuration (one context with accumulation, another without). How to determine when is better an alternative context instead of setting context state? Thankyou all!

• Basic doubt about sensor usage

  Suppose I have a cellphone with accelerometer and magnetometer, and want to determine its absolute (wrt North/East/South/West) 3d position. Imagine the phone is laid vertically, with the screen facing me, the "up" vector pointing to the ceil. Whenever I tilt, the accelerometer allows me to get the "up" vector info change. The problem is that if I tilt the device and put it horizontally (screen now facing ceil, and "up" vector pointing to the opposite of where I am), then the up vector doesn't get updated any more if I rotate the phone horizontally on the table. This is something that clearly is detected by the magnetometer now. So, the question is, when to know where to use acc or mag for each case? Is there a generic way to achieve this?

• java.lang.Void in C#?

  Hi, I am currently working with .Net 2.0 and have an interface whose generic type is used to define a method's return type. Something like interface IExecutor<T> { T Execute() { ... } } My problem is that some classes that implement this interface do not really need to return anything. In Java you can use java.lang.Void for this purpose, but after quite a bit of searching I found no equivalent in C#. More generically, I also did not find a good way around this problem. I tried to find how people would do this with delegates, but found nothing either - which makes me believe that the problem is that I suck at searching :) So what's the best way to solve this? How would you do it? Thanks!

• window.opener.document.getElementById not working

  In my asp.net web app, I create a popup window with a button. When that button is clicked, I want to set the value of an asp:TextBox (id=TextBox1) contained in the parent window. However, it doesn't work like all the examples I've read indicate. I've tried the following lines of code in my javascript onclick handler: window.opener.document.getElementById('<%= TextBox1.ClientID %').value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("TextBox1").value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1").value = "abc"; Only example 3 works. All the stuff I've read indicates that #1 is the preferred method, but I can't seem to make it work at all. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome and IE. I'm attempting to read a KISS Statement from a TNC. For this, I am using the following versions: Simulink (Version 7.7 - R2011a) Embedded Coder (Version 6.0 - R2011a) Code Composer Studio v3.3 I tried several options (with generic modules in Simulink and programming the C6748 timers, configuring a module "Target Preferences" with "OMAP_L138/C6748 EVM"...) but it isn't working. • How do i redirect to a GET request from a POST request on GAE

  Hello everyone, i am writing an FBML app on facebook hosted in GAE. Facebook will talk to your hosted app only vai POST (im sure this is the cause, but please do correct me if i'm wrong). So im faced with the issue that inside of my POST method, i need to redirect to facebook OAuth authroize URL. But i can only send a GET request. How can i do that? At the moment i'm doing class OauthHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): # blablablab request.redirect(oauth_uri) Which is wrong since the oauth_uri is only responding to GET. Further more, OAuth will redirect back to my redirect handler through GET, but i cant! i can only do post. So i'm confused. ideas? Thanks in advance

• Is there a way to declare a variable that implements multiple interfaces in .Net?

  Similar to this Java question. I would like to specify that a variable implements multiple interfaces. For instance private {IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} _foo; public void SetFoo({IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} value) { _foo = value; } Requirements: I don't have the ability to add an interface to most type that would be passed in to Foo. So I can't create a third interface that inherits from IFirstInterface and ISecondInterface. I would like to avoid making the containing class generic if possible because the type of Foo doesn't have much to do with the class and the user isn't likely to know it at compile time. I need to use foo to access methods in both interfaces at a later time. I would like to do this in a compiler safe way, i.e. no trying to cast to the interface just before trying to use it. If foo does not implement both interfaces quite a bit of functionality won't work properly. Is this possible?

I'd like to make the code more readable. I know I can declare my own, but are there no Windows macros for these values?   Hi, I have a question: In Flash, I have the ability to save certain info onto the server. Now the problem is the user needs to be authenticated as admin in order to do so. I can't use sessions, since if you work longer than 20 minutes in the Flash application, the session is gone. The way I see it, I have 2 possibilities: 1. passing a parameter (bIsAdmin) to Flash from the Website. 2. Launch a http-get request, to get this value (bIsAdmin) from an ashx handler on application startup, when the session has not yet exired. In my opinion, both possibilities are not really secure... So, Which one is safer, 1 or 2? Or does anybody have a better idea ? In my opinion, 1 is safer, because with 2, you can just switch a packet tamperer in between, and bang, you're admin, with permission to save (or overwrite, =delete) anything.

• JQuery Ajax returns status 0 in Google Chrome, works fine with other browsers.

  Hello, I am using jQuery ajax, and it worked very well until I tried the site in Google Chrome. I am directed to the success handler. However, when I printed the status of the XMLHttpRequest, I got a 0. The responseText is empty as well. This only happens in Google Chrome. I tried the same code on Safari, Firefox, and Opera, they are worked correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm trying to design my data access to allow various facets - from ASP.net, WCF and Windows Forms / Windows services. I'm a bit confused re: session management etc.. How would I handle this? Do i need to create different repositories for each client? • Webservice won't accept JSON requests

  Hi, The main issue is that I cannot run a webservice that accepts requests in JSON format. I keep getting a 500 Server error stating that the "request format is invalid." My ASP.NET AJAX extensions are installed. My server is running Plesk Control Panel 8.6 which is undoubtedly causing these problems. The default handler for this specified extension is shown in the web.config like so: For my applications webservice to handle JSON it needs to have this reference: <add name="ScriptHandlerFactory" verb="*" path="*.asmx" preCondition="integratedMode" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> Plesk is not allowing the request to be handled properly. I need to know the correct http directive(s) to put into the web.config to properly handle JSON webservices. I tried posting to the Plesk forum two days ago but no response yet. Any insight would be great =)

• spring web application context is not loaded from jar file in WEB-INF/lib when running tomcat in eclipse

  I am experimenting with spring, maven, and eclipse but stumbling on a weird issue. I am running Eclipse Helios SR1 with the STS (Spring tools suite) plugin which includes the Maven plugin also. What i want to achieve is a spring mvc webapp which uses an application context loaded from a local application context xml file, but also from other application contexts in jar files dependencies included in WEB-INF/lib. What i'd ultimately like to do is have my persistence layer separated in its own jar file but containing its own spring context files with persistence specific configuration (e.g a jpa entityManagerFactory for example). So to experiment with loading resources from jar dependencies, i created a simple maven project from eclipse, which defines an applicationContext.xml file in src/main/resources Inside, i define a bean <bean id="mybean" class="org.test.MyClass" /> and create the class in the org.test package I run mvn-install from eclipse, which generates me a jar file containing my class and the applicationContext.xml file: testproj.jar |_META-INF |_org |_test |_MyClass.class |_applicationContext.xml I then create a spring mvc project from the Spring template projects provided by STS. I have configured an instance of Tomcat 7.0.8 , and also an instance of springSource tc Server within eclipse. Deploying the newly created project on both servers works without problem. I then add my previous project as a maven dependency of the mvc project. the jar file is correctly added in the Maven Dependencies of the project. In the web.xml that is generated, i now want to load the applicationContext.xml from the jar file as well as the existing one generated for the project.
