On my wifi I have set a passphrase and also know the hex code.
However my iPhone needs a password.
Can I figure out the password from this info?
How else can I get around this?
I've got an Acer Aspire One running Linux. When I connect to my building's wifi, everything seems fine for a short period of time (I can google a few things or start downloading an Apt package), but then other devices on the network lose their IP addresses. Shortly after that, my computer also gets disconected. My computer is set to use DHCP.
What causes this, and do you know how it could be fixed? Am I causing a broadcast storm?
Hi Guys,
Sorry if this is a very dumb question. I have installed the virtualWIFI msi on vista. I assumed that would simply just allow selecting more than one wifi connection with my single card however I don't get much new options.
Any help on how to get this running on vista is greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to push wifi settings to client computers through Active Directory, something that will add a defaul SSID to connect to and a WPA password. The only thing I've heard of is a script by Aruba labs called wificfg_xp.exe on a couple of forums (Here and here), but the link to the download page is always broken. Does any one know of an alternative way to download this file, or another way to push these settings with AD?
I have a Linksys WUSB54GC usb dongle and I have exhausted every thing I know about making this thing work in linux. I am using Fedora 13. Since it is not ready I can not view any networks. Any ideas would be great.

I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios.
As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?
Hi,
I wonder if there is an app for iphone, that cotinuosly scans for open wifi hotspots, so once it finds one, it vibrates. So I have my iphone inside my pocket, and it scans while I am walking thorugh the city.
Thanks
Does anyone knows which are these systems that manages paid wifi networks and some hotels and airports?
Even better, would anyone know a open/free project that would do or could be adapted to that end?
The idea is simple, I want to let the network open at physical level so anyone can connect. After connected however, the clients would have access only to a specified page where they can logging in, and doing the necessary validations the router would allow these of those ports (or even everything) for his IP.
If I want to log onto our WIFI network, Windows keeps asking for credentials. After many connection attempts (and sometimes some reboots) we finally manage to connect. Then the connection usually stays intact for the rest of the day. But it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes before we're online... Needless to say we're using a single username/password for all failing/succeeding attempts.
Does anybody recognize these symptoms? How to troubleshoot this?
Hi all,
I want to connect to my University's wireless using my Nexus One. When I go to "Add Wi-Fi network" in Wireless Settings I fill in the Network SSID and select 802.1x Enterprise for the security and fill everything out.
The problem is that our university's wireless uses Thawte Premium Server CA certificate for certification.
When I click the drop down list for CA certificate I get nothing in the list (just N/A)
Now I have the certificate (Thawte Premium Server CA.pem) and have moved it to my SD card, but it doesn't look like Android automatically detects it.
Where should I put the certificate so that the Android wireless manager recognizes it. In other words, how can I import a CA certificate so that Android recognizes that it is on the phone and displays it in the CA Certificate drop down list.
Thanks for any help,
Tomek
P.S. My phone is not rooted
EDIT: After doing some research it looks like you are able to install certificates by going to your phone's settings Location & Security Install from SD card
Unfortunately it looks like the only accepted file extension is .p12. It does not look like there is a way to import .cer or .pem files (which are the only two files that come with the Thawte certificates) at this moment.
It does look like you can use a converter to convert your .cer or .pem files to .p12, however a key file is needed.
https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-converter.html
I do not know where to get this key file for the Thawte certificates.

<b>Ian's Thoughts:</b> "You can search the Android Market for the following keywords and see quite a bit of content that I feel shouldn't be available to customers, and definitely not to children: nude, sex, porn, 18+, adults only, boobs, the android market seems to be turning into a porn hub."

Shane Conder will show us how different XML parsers affect performance with Android and the answers might surprise you. The article provides developers with data for choosing a particular XML parser and Android code that demonstrates all three parsers.
Picked this up from a recent Dublin Google Technology User Group meeting: Android App Mistakes: Avoiding the Anti-Patterns by Mark Murphy, CommonsWare
Interesting approach of "anti-patterns" aimed at mobile developers (in this case Android), looking at the best way to use code and what's in the SDK while combining it with UX guidance (the premise being the developer does the lot).
Interestingly, the idea came through that developers need to stop trying to make one O/S behave like another--on UX grounds. Also, pretty clear that a web-based paradigm is being promoting for Android (translators tell me that translating an Android app reminded them of translating web pages too).
Haven't see the "anti"-approach before, developer cookbooks and design patterns sure. Check out the slideshare presentation.
My friend has a Sony Ericsson Xperia (most probably X8) handset which is an Android based smartphone. He is not able to send files through bluetooth but able to receive. I don't exactly remember the version of Android which he is currently having. He has tried to download and install the required update using the same phone (he has internet connected) from http://www.sonyericsson.com but not able to install it. So, he asked me to help him. Which version of Android do you think he has? Does it seem like he does not have Android 2.1 installed. It is written here (click on Xperia X8) that
If your phone already has Android 2.1,
you can use your mobile network* or a
WiFi connection to download the
software.
Is it possible that he does not have updated Android and so not able to download? If so, does he need to upgrade to Android 2.1 first? Should it be done by connecting it to a PC?

I have a HP Pavilion tx2000 that I have been running Ubuntu 12.04 on for a couple of months without any problems (wifi worked great) until yesterday when my hard drive failed. I replaced the hard drive and decided to install Ubuntu 12.10. Unlike 12.04, the wifi did not work after the installation finished and all the updates where installed (over Ethernet). The network drop down in the top right didn't even show a wireless option.
I Googled about for a bit and found some solutions that seemed like they might work. Unfortunately they did not.
Here is what I tried:
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
Restart the computer.
And the wifi still didn't work. At which point I panicked a bit and tried to undo the previous commands by running:
sudo apt-get remove b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
Restart the computer.
The wifi still doesn't work.
This is where I stopped because I have no idea what I am doing and don't want to mess something up. The network drop down still doesn't show a wireless option and the hardware wifi switch on the laptop is amber (it turns blue when the wifi is on). Using the hardware switch does not change the color.

UPDATE:
After writing up this question tried the following command:
sudo rfkill unblock all
At first it didn't do anything but after running it about four times, sudo rfkill list all now returns:
0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
But the network menu still does not have a wireless option and the hardware switch still glows amber. Pushing the hardware switch turns the hard block back on and I have to run sudo rfkill unblock all multiple times again to turn it off.
Any help is appreciated!
