    Hello. I'm having a problem with the module subprocess. I'm running a script from python through: subprocess.Popen('./run_pythia.sh',shell=True).communicate() and sometimes it just blocks and it doesn't finish to execute the script. Before I was using .wait() instead of .communicate() but then because of this: http://dcreager.net/2009/08/06/subprocess-communicate-drawbacks/ I changed to .communicate(). Nevertheless the problem continues. Can anyone help me?

    I'm trying to make a simple program that continually displays and updates a label that displays the CPU usage, while having other unrelated things going on. I've done enough research to know that threading is likely going to be involved. However, I'm having trouble applying what I've seen in simple examples of threading to what I'm trying to do.   • Need help writing jQuery to loop through table and inject markers into google map?

    I am new to jQuery. I've done some simple things with it but what I am attempting now is a over my head and I need some help. I am building a locator for all the firearms dealers in the US for a client. I am working within Drupal. I have a proximity search by zip code that works great. If you search by zip a list of paginated results shows up in an html table that can by paged through via ajax. I would like a map to be above this list with markers corresponding to the names and addresses being listed. I already have all the lat and long values in the table results. I want the script to update the markers and automatically zoom to fit the markers in the view when a user changes the sort order of the table or pages through the results. Also, I'd like to have a hover highlight effect over the rows of the table that simultaneously highlight the corresponding marker, and have a click on the table row equal a click on a marker that pops up a marker info window to be populated using jQuery to read the name and address fields of the table. Hope this all makes sense. I know I'm putting a lot out there, I'm not asking for someone to write the whole script, just wanted to give as many details as possible. Thanks for any help. I'm just lost when it comes to looping and moving data around.   • Enthought Python, Sage, or others (in Unix clusters)

    I am currently get access to a cluster of Unix machines, but they don't have the software I need (numpy, scipy, matplotlib, etc), and I have to install them by myself (I don't have the root permission, either, so commands like apt-get or yast doesn't work). In the worst case, I have to compile them all from source. Is there any better way to do so? I hear something about Enthought Python and Sage, but not sure what is the best way to do so. Any suggestion?

  • Development team collaboration via Google Wave

    I hope I am not repeating any previously asked question. Anyway, so Google Wave is nice and shiny and sounds like a lot of folks(at least at Google I/O :) used it in a useful for work(!) way. I've been beta-testing Google Wave for sometime now, but can't quite grasp how to improve our workflow using it. We have a medium size team of developers that are spread out around US and Europe and naturally most of communication is happening via IM and Skype and email of course. So what are specific things that could be offloaded to Google Wave to improve collaboration by leaps and bounds(meaning not just replacing IM with nicer IM)?

  • Python constructor does weird things with optional parameters

    Can you help me understand of the behaviour and implications of the python __init__ constructor. It seems like when there is an optional parameter and you try and set an existing object to a new object the optional value of the existing object is preserved and copied. Ok that was confusing... so look at an example I concocted below. In the code below I am trying to make a tree structure with nodes and possibly many children . In the first class NodeBad, the constructor has two parameters, the value and any possible children. The second class NodeGood only takes the value of the node as a parameter. Both have an addchild method to add a child to a node. When creating a tree with the NodeGood class, it works as expected. However, when doing the same thing with the NodeBad class, it seems as though a child can only be added once! The code below will result in the following output: Good Tree 1 2 3 [< 3 >] Bad Tree 1 2 2 [< 2 >, < 3 >] Que Pasa?   • Python sock.listen(...)

    All the examples I've seen of sock.listen(5) in the python documentation suggest I should set the max backlog number to be 5. This is causing a problem for my app since I'm expecting some very high volume (many concurrent connections). I set it to 200 and haven't seen any problems on my system, but was wondering how high I can set it before it causes problems.. Anyone know?
