• Does the order of columns in a query matter?

    - by James Simpson
When selecting columns from a MySQL table, is performance affected by the order that you select the columns as compared to their order in the table (not considering indexes that may cover the columns)? For example, you have a table with rows uid, name, bday, and you have the following query. SELECT uid, name, bday FROM table Does MySQL see the following query any differently and thus cause any sort of performance hit? SELECT uid, bday, name FROM table

  • Implement Partial sorted query in sql server 2005

    - by Brij
I have to show records in such a way that some selected records should come first. After this, another records come in sorted manner from the same table. For example, If I select state having stateID = 5 then the corresponding record should come first. after this another records should come in sorted manner. For this, I tried union but it shows all in sorted. select state from statemaster where stateid=5 union all select state from statemaster where not stateid =5 order by state Thanks

  • Drop down table and jquery

    - by Marcelo
Hi, I'm trying to make a drop down table using jQuery, with a similar code like here: (from the topic: Conditional simple drop down list?)

  Question A Question B

Here is an example question C.

  Question G Question H

Here is an example question E.

  Question I Question J

And the jQuery part $(function () { $('#QuestionOptions').change(function () { $('#myAnswers > div').hide(); $('#myAnswers').find('#' + $(this).val()).show(); }); }); My problem is, when I finish to table the part of "myQuestions", and start to table the part of "myAnswers", the dynamic part of the table doesn't work. In this case, the myAnswers part won't be hidden, it'll be shown since the beginning. I tried to put everything in one table, then I tried to create a different table for myQuestions, then another table for myAnswers and it didn't work. Does anyone know where am I mistaking ? Sorry for any mistake in English, I'm not a native speaker. Thanks in advance.

  • Why does RIGHT(@foostr, 0) return NULL when @foostr is varchar(max)?

    - by bob-montgomery
In SQL Server 2005 If I want to find the right-most one character of a varchar(max) variable, no problem: declare @foostr varchar(max) set @foostr = 'abcd' select right (@foostr, 1) ---- d If I want to find the right-most zero characters of a string literal, no problem: select right ('abcd', 0) ------------------ It returns an empty string. If I want to find the right-most zero characters of a varchar(10), no problem: declare @foostr varchar(10) set @foostr = 'abcd' select right (@foostr, 0) ---- It returns an empty string. If I want to find the right-most zero characters of a varchar(max), well: declare @foostr varchar(max) set @foostr = 'abcd' select right (@foostr, 0) ---- NULL It returns NULL. Why?

  • Why won't C# accept a (seemingly) perfectly good Sql Server CE Query?

    - by VoidKing
By perfectly good sql query, I mean to say that, inside WebMatrix, if I execute the following query, it works to perfection: SELECT page AS location, (len(page) - len(replace(UPPER(page), UPPER('o'), ''))) / len('o') AS occurences, 'pageSettings' AS tableName FROM PageSettings WHERE page LIKE '%o%' UNION SELECT pageTitle AS location, (len(pageTitle) - len(replace(UPPER(pageTitle), UPPER('o'), ''))) / len('o') AS occurences, 'ExternalSecondaryPages' AS tableName FROM ExternalSecondaryPages WHERE pageTitle LIKE '%o%' UNION SELECT eventTitle AS location, (len(eventTitle) - len(replace(UPPER(eventTitle), UPPER('o'), ''))) / len('o') AS occurences, 'MainStreetEvents' AS tableName FROM MainStreetEvents WHERE eventTitle LIKE '%o%' Here i am using 'o' as a static search string to search upon. No problem, but not exeactly very dynamic. Now, when I write this query as a string in C# and as I think it should be (and even as I have done before) I get a server-side error indicating that the string was not in the correct format. Here is a pic of that error: And (although I am only testing the output, should I get it to quit erring), here is the actual C# (i.e., the .cshtml) page that queries the database: @{ Layout = "~/Layouts/_secondaryMainLayout.cshtml"; var db = Database.Open("Content"); string searchText = Request.Unvalidated["searchText"]; string selectQueryString = "SELECT page AS location, (len(page) - len(replace(UPPER(page), UPPER(@0), ''))) / len(@0) AS occurences, 'pageSettings' AS tableName FROM PageSettings WHERE page LIKE '%' + @0 + '%' "; selectQueryString += "UNION "; selectQueryString += "SELECT pageTitle AS location, (len(pageTitle) - len(replace(UPPER(pageTitle), UPPER(@0), ''))) / len(@0) AS occurences, 'ExternalSecondaryPages' AS tableName FROM ExternalSecondaryPages WHERE pageTitle LIKE '%' + @0 + '%' "; selectQueryString += "UNION "; selectQueryString += "SELECT eventTitle AS location, (len(eventTitle) - len(replace(UPPER(eventTitle), UPPER(@0), ''))) / len(@0) AS occurences, 'MainStreetEvents' AS tableName FROM MainStreetEvents WHERE eventTitle LIKE '%' + @0 + '%'"; @:beginning
foreach (var row in db.Query(selectQueryString, searchText)) { @:entry @:@row.location @:@row.occurences @:@row.tableName
} } Since it is erring on the foreach (var row in db.Query(selectQueryString, searchText)) line, that heavily suggests that something is wrong with my query, however, everything seems right to me about the syntax here and it even executes to perfection if I query the database (mind you, un-parameterized) directly. Logically, I would assume that I have erred somewhere with the syntax involved in parameterizing this query, however, my double and triple checking (as well as, my past experience at doing this) insists that everything looks fine here. Have I messed up the syntax involved with parameterizing this query, or is something else at play here that I am overlooking? I know I can tell you, for sure, as it has been previously tested, that the value I am getting from the query string is, indeed, what I would expect it to be, but as there really isn't much else on the .cshtml page yet, that is about all I can tell you.

  • linq "let" translation

    - by luke
I understand that when the C# compiler sees a linq query comprehension, it basically does a straight translation to the corresponding Linq Extension methods and lambdas. i.e. from x in list select x.property gets translated to: list.Select(x => x.property) my question is what do let clauses get translated to. for example how would this get translated by the compiler. from x in list let v = SomeComplexExpressionDependingOnx select v (p.s. i know this could be reduced to just select SomeComplexExpressionDependingOnx but i want to know how this is done in general) Thanks!

  • Linq To Sql Left outer join - filtering null results

    - by Harry
I'd like to reproduce the following SQL into C# LinqToSql SELECT TOP(10) Keywords.* FROM Keywords LEFT OUTER JOIN IgnoreWords ON Keywords.WordID = IgnoreWords.ID WHERE (DomainID = 16673) AND (IgnoreWords.Name IS NULL) ORDER BY [Score] DESC The following C# Linq gives the right answer. But I can't help think I'm missing something (a better way of doing it?) var query = (from keyword in context. Keywords join ignore in context.IgnoreWords on keyword.WordID equals ignore.ID into ignored from i in ignored.DefaultIfEmpty() where i == null where keyword.DomainID == ID orderby keyword.Score descending select keyword).Take(10); the SQL produced looks something like this: SELECT TOP (10) [t0].[DomainID], [t0].[WordID], [t0].[Score], [t0].[Count] FROM [dbo].[Keywords] AS [t0] LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT 1 AS [test], [t1].[ID] FROM [dbo].[IgnoreWords] AS [t1]) AS [t2] ON [t0].[WordID] = [t2].[ID] WHERE ([t0].[DomainID] = 16673) AND ([t2].[test] IS NULL) ORDER BY [t0].[Score] DESC How can I get rid of this redundant inner selection? It's only slightly more expensive but every bit helps!

  • How to join nearly identical several queries into one?

    - by Devyn
Hi, Assume I have an order_dummy table where order_dummy_id, order_id, user_id, book_id, author_id are stored. You may complain the logic of my table but I somehow need to do it that way. I want to execute following queries. SELECT * FROM order_dummy WHERE order_id = 1 AND user_id = 1 AND book_id = 1 ORDER BY `order_dummy_id` DESC LIMIT 1 SELECT * FROM order_dummy WHERE order_id = 1 AND user_id = 1 AND book_id = 2 ORDER BY `order_dummy_id` DESC LIMIT 1 SELECT * FROM order_dummy WHERE order_id = 1 AND user_id = 1 AND book_id = 3 ORDER BY `order_dummy_id` DESC LIMIT 1 Please keep in mind that several numbers of same book is included in one order. Therefore, I list order_dummy_id by descending and limit 1 so only LATEST ORDER of A BOOK is shown. But my goal is to show other books in that way in one table. I used group by like this ... SELECT * FROM order_dummy WHERE order_id = 1 AND user_id = 1 GROUP BY book_id but it only shows order_dummy_id with ascending result. I have no idea anymore. Looking forward your kindness help!

  • Selecting and Populating a unFocused tab.

    - by Deyon
    I'm having a problem displaying data from a function to text box within a tab. If you run the code and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." I get an error; "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." I'm guessing this is because "Tab 2" is/was not rendered yet. Now if I run the code, select "Tab 2" then select "Tab 1" and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." it works the way I would like. Dose any one know a way around this problem. ----Full Flex 4/Flash Builder Code just copy paste----  <s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" creationComplete=" "> <fx:Script>  public function showtab2():void { mytextbox.text="I made it!"; tn.selectedIndex=1; }  </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations>  </fx:Declarations> <mx:Panel title="TabNavigator Container Example" height="90%" width="90%" paddingTop="10" paddingLeft="10" paddingRight="10" paddingBottom="10"> <mx:Label width="100%" color="blue" text="Select the tabs to change the panel."/> <mx:TabNavigator id="tn" width="100%" height="100%">  <mx:VBox label="Panel 1"> <mx:Label text="TabNavigator container panel 1"/> <mx:Button label="Select Tab 2 and Fill with Text" click="showtab2()"/> </mx:VBox> <mx:VBox label="Panel 2"> <mx:Label text="TabNavigator container panel 2"/> <s:TextInput id="mytextbox" /> </mx:VBox> </mx:TabNavigator> <mx:HBox> </mx:HBox> </mx:Panel> </s:WindowedApplication>

  • How do I request a single random row from a force.com database in SOQL?

    - by Ollie C
Total row-count is in the range 10k-100k rows. Can I use RAND() on force.com? Unfortunately although all the rows have a unique numeric identifier, there are many gaps, and I'd often want to select a random row from a filtered subset anyway. I suspect there's no particularly efficient way to do this, but is it possible at all? Ultimately all I want to do is to extract one row from a table (or a subset based on specific filter criteria) at random. If force.com doesn't let me select a random row, then can I query the rows to select from, and assign sequential IDs to all the rows, say 1-1,035, and then select a random number in that range locally, say 349, and then get row 349?

  • How to get user input for 2 digit data

    - by oneMinute
In a HTML form user is expect to fill / select some data and trigger an action probably a http-post. If your only requested data field is a "2 digit" you can use html text input element get some data. Then you want to make it useful; enable user easily select data from a 'html select' But not all of your data is well-ordered so eye-searching within these data is somehow cumbersome. Because your data is meaningful with its relations. If there is no primary key for foreign key "12" it should not be shown. Vice versa if this foreign key occurs a lot, then it has some weight and could be displayed with more importance. So, what will be your way? a) Use text input to get data and validate it with regex, javascript, ... b) Use some dropdown select. c) Any other way ? Any answer will appreciated :)

  • Invalid SQL Query

    - by svovaf
I have the next query that in my opinion is a valid one, but I keep getting error telling me that there is a proble on "WHERE em.p4 = ue.p3" - Unknown column 'ue.p3' in 'where clause'. This is the query: SELECT DISTINCT ue.p3 FROM table1 AS ue INNER JOIN table2 AS e ON ue.p3 = e.p3 WHERE EXISTS( SELECT 1 FROM ( SELECT (COUNT(*) >= 1) AS MinMutual FROM table4 AS smm WHERE smm.p1 IN ( SELECT sem.p3 FROM table3 AS sem INNER JOIN table2 AS em ON sem.p3 = em.p3 WHERE em.p4 = ue.p3 AND sem.type = 'friends' AND em.p2 = 'normal' ) AND smm.p5 IN ( 15000,15151 ) ) AS Mutual WHERE Mutual.MinMutual = TRUE) LIMIT 11 If I execute the sub-query which is inside the EXISTS function, everything is O.K. • Updating rows using "in" operator in "where" clause

    - by doublep
Hi. I stumbled upon SQL behavior I don't understand. I needed to update several rows in a table at once; started with just finding them: SELECT * FROM some_table WHERE field1 IN (SELECT ...) This returned a selection of about 60 rows. Now I was pretty confident I got the subquery right, so I modified the first part only: UPDATE some_table SET field2 = some_value WHERE field1 IN (SELECT ...) In other words, this was exactly as the first query after the WHERE. However, it resulted in 0 rows updated, whereas I would expect those 60. Note that the statement above would change field2, i.e. I verified that some_value was not present in the selected rows. The subquery was a modestly complicated SQL piece with 2 (different) tables, 1 view, joins and its own WHERE clause. In case this matters, it happened with Oracle Database 10g. So, the question is, why UPDATE didn't touch the rows returned by SELECT?

  • How can I use "FOR UPDATE" with a JOIN on Oracle?

    - by tangens
The answer to another SO question was to use this SQL query: SELECT o.Id, o.attrib1, o.attrib2 FROM table1 o JOIN ( SELECT DISTINCT Id FROM table1, table2, table3 WHERE ... ) T1 ON o.id = T1.Id Now I wonder how I can use this statement together with the keyword FOR UPDATE. If I simply append it to the query, Oracle will tell me: ORA-02014: cannot select FOR UPDATE from view Do I have to modify the query or is there a trick to do this with Oracle? With MySql the statement works fine.

  • stored procedure issue, has to do with my where clause and if statement

    - by MyHeadHurts
right now my stored procedure is returning 2 different result sets one for @booked and the other for @booked1 if you look closely my query is doing the same thing for each @booked and @booked but one is for a user selected year and the other for the current year. I don't want two different result sets, i want to join the selected year and the current year side by side by SDESCR(which is a column that they have in common) another hurdle i am facing is i am use @mode to decide whether the user wants netsales, sales... so on. • need help optimizing oracle query

I need help in optimizing the following query. It is taking a long time to finish. It takes almost 213 seconds . because of some constraints, I can not add an index and have to live with existing ones. INSERT INTO temp_table_1 ( USER_ID, role_id, participant_code, status_id ) WITH A AS (SELECT USER_ID user_id,ROLE_ID, STATUS_ID,participant_code FROM USER_ROLE WHERE participant_code IS NOT NULL), --1 B AS (SELECT ROLE_ID FROM CMP_ROLE WHERE GROUP_ID = 3), C AS (SELECT USER_ID FROM USER) --2 SELECT USER_ID,ROLE_ID,PARTICIPANT_CODE,MAX(STATUS_ID) FROM A INNER JOIN B USING (ROLE_ID) INNER JOIN C USING (USER_ID) GROUP BY USER_ID,role_id,participant_code ; --1 = query when ran alone takes 100+ seconds --2 = query when ran alone takes 19 seconds DELETE temp_table_1 WHERE ROWID NOT IN ( SELECT a.ROWID FROM temp_table_1 a, USER_ROLE b WHERE a.status_id = b.status_id AND ( b.ACTIVE IN ( 1 ) OR ( b.ACTIVE IN ( 0,3 ) AND SYSDATE BETWEEN b.effective_from_date AND b.effective_to_date )) ); It seems like the person who wrote the query is trying to get everything into a temp table first and then deleting records from the temp table. whatever is left is the actual results. Can't it be done such a way that there is no need for the delete? We just get the results needed since that will save time?

  • Visual Studio 2010 / ASP.NET MVC 2 / Publish

    - by SevenCentral
I just did a clean install on Windows 7 x64 Professional with the final release of Visual Studio 2010 Premium. In order to duplicate what I'm experiencing do the following in: Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application Right click the project and select Properties On the Web tab, select "Use Local IIS Web Server" Click on Create Virtual Directory Save all Unload the project Edit the project file Change MvcBuildViews to true Save all Reload project Right click the project and select Publish Choose the file system publish method Enter a target location Choose Delete all existing files Select Publish Right click the project Select Publish Each time I do the above I get the following errror: "It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level..." The error originates from obj\debug\package\packagetmp\web.config, relative to the project directory. I can repeat this all day long with any MVC 2 project I've built. In order to fix this problem, I need to set MvcBuildViews to false in the project file. That's not really an option. This wasn't a problem in Visual Studio 2008 and it seems to be an issue with the way the Publish command stages files beneath the project directory. Can anyone else duplicate this error? Is this a bug or by design? Is there a fix, workaround, etc...? Thanks.

  • SQL Server / T-SQL : How to update equal percentages of a resultset?

In other words, there is SELECT KeyID FROM TableA WHERE (some criteria exists) I want to update TableA 3 different ways by 3 equal portions of KeyIDs. UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value1 WHERE KeyID IN (the first 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value2 WHERE KeyID IN (the second 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) UPDATE TableA SET FieldA = Value3 WHERE KeyID IN (the third 1/3 of the SELECT resultset above) or something to that effect.
