• Getting "select permission denied" when using LINQ but my account is a sysadmin

  I have a console app that's geared to be automatically ran as a Scheduled Task. I use LINQ to SQL to pull some data out of the database, format it into a CSV and email it to a client. All of a sudden I am getting the error "SELECT permission denied for table", but the account I'm using to connect to the database (specified in my app.config file) has the "sysadmin" server role (bad programmer, I know; I'll get around to changing it to a better account later but I want to make sure it works first). I can connect directly to the SQL database using that very same account and query the table in question without a problem, it only seems to be when using the LINQ code. Any idea what would be causing this?

• Pet project ideas in Java

  I'm looking for a pet project idea in Java. I'm a Software Engineering undergraduate finishing my 3rd year. I have also been working for the past 1.5-2 years programming in C++, and I get enough of that at work. I recently learned Java and I like it very much. Already done some project assignments and some really small console applications, but I'm looking for something to invest my time in. I would like a project that is complex enough to "brag about" (have it open sourced and get people interested, added to resume) and learn while doing it, but also simple enough to be able to at least have a working version in a few months. I know the most common advice is something that I need, but I admit I simply couldn't think of anything like that. Any ideas?

  I'm starting learning javascript for a project, I've found a script that does a part of what I need to do, I'd like to know how it works, both for me and in case it needs to be modified. Originally it was used inside the page, now I've put it in a file on its own and does not work anymore, so I'm dividing it in parts, because I fail to get the whole thing. Here is what bother me most for now: 1) Is this a declaration a function? What is its name? How can it be invoked? (function() { //some code })(); 2) No clue of what is going on here var VARIABLE = VARIABLE || {}; 3) Am I defining a the implementation of methodCall here? • IntelliJ doesn't seem to pickup certain sbt libraries, no code completion

  I am using sbt console in my terminal to compile my scala/play project. I am using intellij to edit my source code, basically using it just for getting some code completion and navigation etc. For some reason certain libraries don't seem to load correctly. For example, I added elastic search to my Dependancies.scala file, reloaded sbt and everything compiles fine but for some reason IntelliJ doesn't pickup the jars correctly i.e. they are in red and there is no syntax completion. How can I fix this? I tried shutting intellij down and restarting it but the problem remains. I am using Intelli 13.1.3 (ultimate)

• SHA1CryptoServiceProvider changed in .NET 4

  I am currently trying to upgrade a project of mine from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4.0 Everything was going really well, all code compiled, all tests passed. Then I hit a problem deploying to my stagomg environment. Suddenly my logins were no longer working. It seems my SHA1 hashed passwords are being hashed differently in .NET 4. I am using the SHA1CryptoServiceProvider: SHA1CryptoServiceProvidercryptoTransformSHA1 = new SHA1CryptoServiceProvider(); To test I created a new Visual Studio project with 2 console applications. The first targeted at .NET Framework 3.5 and the second at 4.0. I ran exactly the same hashing code in both and different results were produced. Why is this happening and how can I fix this? I obviously cannot go update all of my users passwords considering I do not know what they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Use stringWithFormat: as a file path in cocoa

  Hello, I'm having a problem with a cocoa application that takes the value of a text field, and writes it to a file. The file path is made using stringWithFormat: to combine 2 strings. For some reason it will not create the file and the console says nothing. • executing a class in remote jvm

  Hi All, I have a small test class that i want to run on a particular jvm that's already up and running (basically it's an web application running on Tomcat) . The reason i want to do this is i want to execute a small test class (with the main method and all) within that jvm so that i get the same environment (loaded and initialized classes) for my test class. Is it possible to indicate that ,say through a jvm parameter, that it should not initialize a new vm to execute my class but instead go and execute on the remote vm and show me the result here, on my console. So the local jvm acts as a kind of thin proxy ? I am not aware in case there are some tools that should make this possible ... also heard somewhere that java 6 jvm comes with an option like this , is that true ?? Please help me. Thanks,

• Visual Studio WCF Application now asking to manually attach to process

  I have a console app that is calling a WCF app hosted in IIS. Up until now everything has been fine and I am able to debug the app - step through it without any problems... Until I added my dev pc to a domain.... now every time I get step into the code hosted in IIS, a popup comes up asking if I would like to attach to this process... I can then continue debugging... again not a huge train smash - however... now it randomly just jumps to the end of the process (almost like some kind of timeout) and I am not able to reliably step and debug the IIS hosted code.... Any ideas? All the projects are in the same solution, and all running on the local dev pc... Using Visual Studio 2008, dev PC is Win 7

• Install windows service without InstallUtil.exe

  Hi, I'm trying to deploy a windows service but not quite sure how to do it right. I built it as a console app to start with, I've now turned it into a windows service project and just call my class from the OnStart method in the service. I now need to install this on a server which doesn't have Visual Studio on it, which if I've understood it correctly means I can't use the InstallUtil.exe and have to create an installer class instead. Is this correct? I did have a look at a previous question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/255056/install-a-net-windows-service-without-installutil-exe, but I just want to make sure I've understood it correctly. If I create the class that question's accepted answer links to, what is the next step? Upload MyService.exe and MyService.exe.config to the server, double click the exe file and Bob's my uncle? • Zero KB SQLite File created by Core Data on application start up

  I'm developing an iPhone application using Core Data. I had everything working and had to make an adjustment to the database schema and change the relationships through the xcdatamodel file. I deleted the my project's sqlite file in Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/3.1.3//Documents. Build and run the application, it creates the sqlite file, but its empty with a file size of 0 KB. At a minimum the table information should be in there. There are no errors/warning in the console. Anyone have an idea what is wrong?

• Help submitting an asp.net form with jquery

  I'm trying to post the entire asp.net form to a certain url. I have tried: $.post("http://www.someaddress.com", $("form").serialize()); I have also tried: $.ajax({ type:"POST", url:"http://www.someaddress.com", data: $('form').serialize(), success: function(){ alert('yay'); } }); In both cases the submit is fine but no data is passed along with it. When i test the form.serialize() in firebug console, this shows my form serialized just fine. When i view the submit in fiddler, i can see that the data part is not set. Maybe im not understanding the data part, but every single tutorial shows this as the way to go - serialize the form and set that as data. What must i do to get my serialized form as the data in my request? What am i missing? Also - why does the NET tab in firebug show all these requests as method OPTIONS?

• Programatically Start OSGi (Equinox)?

  I'd like to be able to easily start an OSGi framework (preferably Equinox) and load up any bundles listed in my pom from a java main. Is this possible? If so, how? It seems like the pax tools would do this, but I can't seem to find any documentation indicating such. I know I can start up Equinox like so: BundleContext context = EclipseStarter.startup( ( new String[] { "-console" } ), null ); But I'd like to do more - like I said: load more bundles in, maybe start some services, etc.
