• Design considerations for a multi-language web application

  I was asked by an interviewer today how I would implement Arabic as a second language into a PHP web application. I talked about choosing a unicode encoding for the database and the front-end, and designing RTL friendly user interface modules. And he didn't seem too happy with the answer. I don't really know anything about multi-lingual systems, how would you have answered that question?

• Cocoa equivalent of diskEvt/kEventClassVolume?

  We have a drop-down menu of volumes in our UI, and I'd like to update it when a new disk is mounted. In the Classic days, this would involve watching for a diskEvt event. In Carbon, I think this was kEventClassVolume. What's the Cocoa equivalent? (A pointer into Apple's documentation on this would satisfy the question. I've been unable to find anything!)

A) Provide all the CSS used by the website in one (compressed) file B) Provide the CSS for required by the elements on the page that is currently being viewed only Positives for A: The entire CSS used on the site is cached on first visit via 1 http request Negatives for A: if it's a big file, it will take a long time to load initially Positives for B: Faster initial load time Negatives for B: More HTTP requests, more files to cache Is there anything (fundamental) that I am missing here?

• "rake db:seed" no method error

  when I try and run the "rake db:seed" command the rails console outputs "NoMethodError: undefined method `db' for #" not quite sure what going on. I'm using netbeans to build my rails project which is using the built-in JRuby 1.2 would that have anything to do with it?

• Agile Uploader error code 2101?

  I'm trying to install Agile Uploader, but keep running into an error code 2101 (no other message besides that.) Any idea what error code "2101" means? Whenever I try to submit/upload (when I call agileUploaderSubmit()), nothing seems to happen and with Firebug mode on, all the log prints out is that code. I can't find anything that tells me what it means. Thanks

• Autovivification in C#

  Trying to wrap my head around perl's Autovivification and based on what it sounds like, It seems to work similar to dynamics in C# as a dynamic object is not assigned a type until runtime or, am I totally off here. If so then is there a comparable idea that I can bridge off of in C# that makes sense? Edit Okay so I'm apparently way off. So as second part of the 2 part question, is there anything conceptually comparable in C#?

• DotNetNuke create new portal didnt create new portal

  hi folks, I've installed dotnetnuke today for the first time, I've created a new portal via host/portals. It says its created it but just doesn't find it. I just don't know how/why? The portal ID is 4. and there is a directory in dotnetnuke/Portals/4 But the url localhost/bmd (name of the portal) doesn't resolve to anything/ Anyone know a solution to this? maybe it happened to you too? I already know Python and C# so those don't count (although Python would probably be the first language I'd recommend).
