How do I hook into the action method for an iPad popover toolbar button?

Hi, I am using the split view template to create a simple split view that has, of course, a popover in Portrait mode. I'm using the default code generated by template that adds/removes the toolbar item and sets the popover controller and removes it. These two methods are splitViewController:willShowViewController:... and splitViewController:willHideViewController:... I'm trying to figure out how to make the popover disappear if the user taps on the toolbar button while the popover is displayed. You can make the popover disappear without selecting an item if you tap anywhere outside the popover, but I would also like to make it disappear if the user taps the button again. Where I'm stuck is this: there doesn't seem to be an obvious, easy way to hook into the action for the toolbar button. I can tell, using the debugger, that the action that's being called on the button is showMasterInPopover. And I am new to working with selectors programmatically, I admit. Can I somehow write an action and set it on the toolbar item without overriding the action that's already there? e.g. add an action that calls the one that's there now? Or would I have to write an action that shows/hides the popover myself (behavior that's being done behind the scenes presumably by the split view controller now???). Or am I missing an easy way to add this behavior to this button without changing the existing behavior that's being set up for me? Thank you!

How to debug UrlRewriter.NET?

I have looked at their help page it seems like I can register a debug logger that outputs information to the 'standard ASP.NET debug window'. My problem is I don't know what that means, if it means the debug output window in Visual Studio (where you see build output, debug output and more) I am not seeing any UrlRewriter debug output. The rules are working (mostly) I just want to get more debug output to fix issues. I added the register call to the rewriter section like this: <rewriter> <register logger="Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.Logging.DebugLogger, Intelligencia.UrlRewriter" /> .... </rewriter> I am hosting this website locally in IIS on Vista, to debug it I attach the debugger to the w3wp process. Other selected parts from the web.config" <compilation debug="true"> <assemblies> ... </assemblies> </compilation> <trace enabled="true"/> Where should I see the debug output from UrlRewriter.NET? If it is in the Visual Studio debug output window, any ideas why I am not seeing it there?

How do I debug a crash when I run my garbage-collected app in Rosetta?

I have a Universal app which is targeting 10.5 and which uses garbage collection. I am building for ppc, i386 and x86_64. I don't have access to a physical PowerPC machine so I am trying to use Rosetta to confirm that the PowerPC portion of the app works correctly. How to determine if a ResourceDictionary is loaded correctly

How can I tell (through the debugger if my app resources are being loaded correctly). AS3 - Unloaded AVM1 swfs trace out as unloaded but memory is not freed for the AVM2 machine

I have a large project built in as3. Part of its main functionality is to load and unload various as2 swfs. The problem is that the memory ins't free up once they are unloaded. I have access to the as2 swfs code base and destroyed all objects, stopped and killed timers, listeners, removed from stage, destroyed all the MovieClip.protoypes that were created. They look to be clean as far as the AS2 debugger show no remnants of the object after the destroy function is run. In AS3 i've closed the local connection, cleaned all references/listeners to the AVM1Movie and ran Loader.unloadAndStop(). The trace out in flex says the swf was unloaded but looking at windows task manager the memory usage never drops to when it was before the as2 swf was loaded. Each as2 swf can take up to 80 megs each time it's run so memory gets eaten up fast and loading and unloading a few as2 files. At this point if the AS2 swfs are unloaded the only thing that I can assume that could be left is MovieClip.prototype and/or _global, _root variables add during the AS2's run time. But i've gone through those and can't find anything else that might be sticking. Has anyone ever seen problems before with the AVM1 machine not freeing up its memory?

Debugging HTML & JavaScript with Firebug

I made a JSONP widget. However, when one of the partner sites put it in their page, (1) it doesn't render at all in IE and (2) in other browsers (Firefox & Google Chrome), the HTML of the widget renders incorrectly: the <aside> closes prematurely, before the Financial Aid Glossary. It's something specific to that page because it works fine on this example college resource center page. To fix these two issues, I tried saving the page source to a local file and messing around with the local file and with Firebug, deleting DOM elements and stuff. I even tried fixing the errors that The W3C Markup Validation Service found. But, I still couldn't get it to render correctly. How should I tell them to change their page so that the widget renders correctly? Or, how should I update the widget script I wrote? Python beginner having trouble running code

For some reason this code will not seem to run in the interpreter. When I hit F5 nothing happens, not even the debugger seems to recognize it. I assume it has something to do with the class, as when removed the interpreter seems to recognize the rest of the code. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Weblogic 10.3, JDBC, Oracle, SQL - Table or View does not exist

Hi, I've got a really odd issue that I've not had any success googling for. It started happening with no changes to the DB, connection settings, code etc. Problem is, when accessing a servlet, one of the EJB's is doing a direct SQL call, very simple "select \n" + " value, \n" + " other_value \n" + " from \n" + " some_table \n" + " where some_condition = ? " That's obviously not the direct SQL, but pretty close. For some reason, this started returning an error stating "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist". The table exists, and the kicker is if I hook in a debugger, change a space or something minor (not changing the query itself) in the query, and hot-deploy the change, it works fine. This isn't the first time I've run across this. It only seems to happen in dev environments (haven't seen it in q/a, sandbox, or production yet), is not always replicable, and driving me seriously insane. By not always replicable I mean that occasionally a clean build & redeploy will sometimes fix the problem, but not always. It's not always the same table (although if the error occurs it continues with the same query). Just throwing a feeler out there to see if anybody has run into issues like this before, and what they may have discovered to fix it.

I've been trying to track down a bug I thought was thread-related, but I think instead there is an issue with the way I am using OpenNETCF's Stopwatch. I am using OpenNETCF.IoC in my application, but for the sake of simplicity I moved the following code directly into a view: public partial class WorkoutView : SmartPart { ... private Stopwatch stopwatch; public WorkoutView() { ... stopwatch = new Stopwatch(); stopwatch.Reset(); stopwatch.Start(); WorkoutDisplayTimer = new Timer(); WorkoutDisplayTimer.Interval = 500; WorkoutDisplayTimer.Tick += new EventHandler(WorkoutDisplayTimer_Tick); WorkoutDisplayTimer.Enabled = true; } void WorkoutDisplayTimer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... stopwatch.Stop(); lbl.Text = stopwatch.ElapsedTicks.ToString() + "NOT WORKING: " + stopwatch.Elapsed.ToString(); stopwatch.Start(); } ... } Long story short, looking at stopwatch in the debugger, the only values that ever get updated are ElapsedTicks, mElapsed, mStartPerfCount. Everything else is always zero. Is this expected behavior? Do I need to call an additional method to have the stopwatch calculate the Elapsed struct? (Note: stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds is also zero)

This 404 seems unavoidable - what am I doing wrong? [Ninject 2.0 with ASP.NET MVC 2 on .NET 4]

I downloaded the fairly new Ninject 2.0 and Ninject.Web.Mvc (targeting mvc2) sources today, and successfully built them against .NET 4 (release configuration). When trying to run an application using Ninject 2.0, i keep getting 404 errors and I can't figure out why. What do I do to find the cause of this?

iPhone: Utility Application - Open Flipside on startup

I have an application that I started with the Utility Application template. I'm using the Flipside for the Settings screen. I'm having the settings serialized to a file when the app is closed and deserialized when the app is opened. If there is no file to deserialize at startup, I want the flipside to be shown so the user can enter required information. This is what I have: - (void)viewDidLoad { flipController = [[FlipsideViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FlipsideView" bundle:nil]; flipController.delegate = self; flipController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; if(![self deserialize]) { [self showInfo]; } } - (IBAction)showInfo { [self presentModalViewController:flipController animated:YES]; } showInfo is the method that is called with the little 'i' button is pressed on the MainView. The button works, however my call in viewDidLoad doesn't. I have run through my code with the debugger. [self deserialize] is returning NO and [self showInfo] is being called, and I checked if flipController is nil in that context, and it's not. I've searched around and couldn't find anyone who's tried to do the same thing. I'm stumped to as why this isn't working. Anyone see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

How do you handle key down events on Android? I am having issues making it work.

For an Android program, I am having trouble handling key down and key up events, and the problem I am having with them can almost certainly be generalized to any sort of user input event. I am using Lunar Lander as one of my main learning devices as I make my first meaningful program, and I noticed that it was using onKeyDown as an overridden method to receive key down events, and it would call one of their more original methods doKeyDown. But when I tried to implement a very small version of my own onKeyDown overide and the actual handler that it calls, it didn't work. I would probably copy and paste my implementations of those two methods, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. You see, I ran the debugger and noticed that they were not getting called - at all. The same goes for my implementations of onKeyUp and the handler that it calls. Something is a little weird here, and when I tried to look at the Android documentation for it, that didn't help at all. I thought that if you had an overide for onKeyDown, then when a key was pressed during execution of the program, onKeyDown would be called as soon as reasonably possible. End of story. But apparently there's something more to it. Apparently you have to do something else somewhere - possibly in the XML when defining the layout or something - to make it work. But I do not know what, and I could not find what in their documentation. What's the secret to this? Thanks!

How to debug browser crash when running Silverlight app

I am on a team of three people who are developing a Silverlight application. On two of our developers' machines the app seems to randomly crash. It never crashes on the third developer's machine. The nature of the crash is that internet explorer just dies with an "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message. How should I go about debugging this problem? I'm not really sure where to start.

iPhone programming - problem with CoreFoundation forking, PLEASE for the love of god help! lol

Hello all, I've been working on an iPhone for several months. It's a 2d shooting game akin to the old Smash TV type games. I'm doing everything alone and it has come out well so far, but now I am getting unpredictable crashes which seem to be related to CoreFoundation forking and not exec()ing, as the message THE_PROCESS_HAS_FORKED_AND_YOU_CANNOT_USE_THIS_COREFOUNDATION_FUNCTIONA LITY_YOU_MUST_EXEC__ always shows up somewhere in the debugger. Usually it shows up around a CFRunLoopRunSpecific and is related to either a timer firing or _InitializeTouchTapCount. I cannot figure out exactly what is causing the fork to occur. My main game loop is running on a timer, first updating all the logic and then drawing everything with openGL. There is nothing highly complex or unusual. I understand you cannot make CF calls on the childside of a fork, or access shared memory and things like that. I am not explicitly trying to fork anything. My question is: can anyone tell me what type of activity might cause CoreFoundation to randomly fork like this? I'd really like to finish this game and I don't know how to solve this problem. Serial Communication between Java RXTX and Arduino

I'm trying to communicate between my PC (Windows 7 using Netbeans and RXTX) with an Arduino Pro, using the serial port. The Arduino is actually connected to the PC using an FTDI cable. The code is based on the Java SimpleRead.Java found here. Currently the Arduino simply prints out a string when it starts up. My Java program should print the number of bytes that have been read and then print out the contents. The Java program works, sort of... If the string is long (10 bytes or so) the output will get broken up. So if on the Arduino I print Serial.println("123456789123456789"); //20 bytes including '\r' and '\n' The output of my Java program may look something like: Number of Bytes: 15 1234567891234 Number of Bytes: 5 56789 or Number of Bytes: 12 1234567891 Number of Bytes: 8 23456789 I'm thinking it's a timing problem, because when I manually go through the code using the debugger, the result string is always what it should be: one 20 byte string. I've been messing with various things but I haven't been able to fix the problem. iPhone app memory leak with UIImage animation? Problem testing on device

I have an animation which works fine in the simulator but crashes on the device. I am getting the following error... Program received signal: “0”. The Debugger has exited due to signal 10 (SIGBUS) A bit of investigating suggests that the UIImages are not getting released and I have a memory leak. I am new to this so can someone tell me if this is the likely cause? If you could also tell me how to solve it then that would be amazing. The images are 480px x 480px and about 25kb each. My code is below... How can I get the correct DisplayMetrics from an AppWidget in Android?

I need to determine the screen density at runtime in an Android AppWidget. I've set up an HDPI emulator device (avd). If set up a regular executable project, and insert this code into the onCreate method: DisplayMetrics dm = getResources().getDisplayMetrics(); Log.d("MyTag", "screen density " + dm.densityDpi); This outputs "screen density 240" as expected. However, if I set up an AppWidget project, and insert this code into the onUpdate method: DisplayMetrics dm = context.getResources().getDisplayMetrics(); Log.d("MyTag", "screen density " + dm.densityDpi); This outputs "screen density 160". I noticed, hooking up the debugger, that the mDefaultDisplay member of the Resources object here is null in the AppWidget case. Similarly, if I get a resource at runtime using the Resources object obtained from context.getResources() in the AppWidget, it returns the wrong resource based on screen density. For instance, I have a 60x60px drawable for mdpi, and an 80x80 drawable for hdpi. If I get this Drawable object using context.getResources().getDrawable(...), it returns the 60x60 version. Is there any way to correctly deal with resources at runtime from the context of an AppWidget? Thanks!

Getting EXC_BAD_ACCESS without any helpful msg from NSZombieEnabled

Hello guys. I'm a newbie to iphone development and I've been struggling with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error I got a couple of days ago. I'm basically taking the Stanford iphone class independently and I am trying to pass an array of NSManagedObjects to a TableViewController that's supposed to display them. The application launches in the simulator and displays the data in the tableView but it immediately errors out with an EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I followed instructions here and other places on how to use NSZombieEnabled to identify prematurely released objects but this one comes without any helpful msgs even with NSZombieEnabled. My guess is it must be caused by something trying to access unassigned memory that wasn't released through release/autorelease. Or else it would have been picked up as zombie object like the other errors I have been able to fix. I'm not a c expert but does that mean something like that could happen if I were to declare an object and send it a message without ever instantiating it? I looked through my code to see if I had anything like that and I came up empty. I have the stack trace in the debugger for this but I'm not sure how to make use of it. I'm a little frustrated because I can't use breakpoints in the code to narrow down the problem any further since it seems to happen after the app has finished loading. I thought the app would just stay idle if there was no possible user interaction. Is it failing at the tail end of the load where I can't easy see it or is jut doing stuff in the background after it's done loading. And I would much appreciate any tips on how to read the stacktrace for this. Thanks for the help guys.

Facebook like and share create a fanpage

We are using the facebook like plugin with the share button. The URL points to a resource of our app. For example http://apps.facebook.com/appname/resources/id The first time this resource/url is shared or liked, everything works fine. The share for example holds the URL given above. But if the same resource/url is shared again, an error occurs. Facebook did create a fanpage for that resource like http://www.facebook.com/pages/appname So from now on, share/likes refer to that page instead of the resource/url of our app. The URL we use for the like plugin is correct and always points to the app resource URL. The fbappid in there is correct, too. Furthermore the page of the resource holds open graph meta tags like og:url, also pointing to the correct URL. The facebook linter/debugger returns URLs to the correct app resource URLs, when checking the liked/shared resource. Why is a fanpage created instead and the URL exchanged in shares/likes? How to fix it? We want the share to include the URL of the app resource and to increase the like count for that open graph object.

Thumbnail Provider not working

I'm trying to write a Windows Explorer thumbnail handler for our custom file type. I've got this working fine for the preview pane, but am having trouble getting it to work for the thumbnails. Windows doesn't even seem to be trying to call the DllGetClassObject entry point. Before I continue, note that I'm using Windows 7 and unmanaged C++. I've registered the following values in the registry: HKCR\CLSID\<my guid> HKCR\CLSID\<my guid>\InprocServer32 (default value being path to my DLL) HKCR\CLSID\<my guid>\InprocServer32\ThreadingModel (value = "Apartment") HKCR\.<my ext>\shellex\{E357FCCD-A995-4576-B01F-234630154E96} (value = my guid) I've also tried using the Win SDK sample, and that doesn't work. And also the sample project in this article (http://www.codemonkeycodes.com/2010/01/11/ithumbnailprovider-re-visited/), and that doesn't work. I'm new to shell programming, so not really sure the best way of debugging this. I've tried attaching the debugger to explorer.exe, but that doesn't seem to work (breakpoints get disabled, and none of my OutputDebugStrings get displayed in the output window). Note that I tried setting the "DesktopProcess" in the registry as described in the WinSDK docs for debugging the shell, but I'm still only seeing one explorer.exe in the task manager - so that "may" be why I can't debug it?? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Dan.
