  • Webservice Connection Refused

    I have developed a web app using a webservice. Everything works fine in the development environment. I have moved the webservice to the production server in a test folder behind my main website. I can browse to the published service localy on the production server and i can access the remote service from my development machine. If I run my web app in my development environment I can use the remote webservice no problem. If I move the web application to the production environment the browser outputs this error when the application performs the ajax login method. The following javascript error is output to the browser Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server.     Greeting, today before I start working on my application I updated my WinXP. After all updates have been installed my WCF service stop working.     I've had a set of legacy pages running on my IIS7 server for at least a year. Sometime last week something changed and now this line: Response.Write CStr(myRS(0).name) & "=" & Cstr(myRS(0).value) which used to return nothing more exciting than the string: 'Updated=true' (the sproc processing input params, stores them to a table, checks for errors and when that's all done returns a success code by executing this statement: select 'true' as [Updated] Now my pageside error handler is being involved and offers: myError=Error from /logQuizScore.asp Error source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error Error number: 13 Error description: Type mismatch Important to note that all lots of pages use the same framework - same db, same coding format, connecitonstrings and (so far as I can tell) all others are working. Troubleshot to this point: The call to the stored procedure is working correctly (stuff is stored to the given table). The output from the stored procedure is working correctly (i can execute a direct call with the given parameters and stuff works. I can see profiler calling and passing. I can replace all code with 'select 'true' as updated' and the error is the same. everything up to the response.write statement above is correct. So something changed how ADO renders that particular recordset. So i try: Response.Write myRS.Item.count and get: Error number: 424 Error description: Object required The recordset object seems not to be instantiating but the command object _did execute.     I have a nested data object for a set of items within categories. Each category can contain sub categories and there is no set limit to the depth of sub categories. (A file system would have a similar structure.) It looks something like this: class category { public int id; public string name; public IQueryable<category> categories; public IQueryable<item> items; } class item { public int id; public string name; } I am passing a list of categories to my view as IQueryable<category>. I want to output the categories as a set of nested unordered list (<ul>) blocks. I could nest foreach loops, but then the depth of sub categories would be limited by the number of nested foreach blocks. In WinForms, I have done similar processing using recursion to populate a TreeView, but I haven't seen any examples of using recursion within an ASPX MVC view. Can recursion be done within an ASPX view? Are there other view engines that include recursion for view output?

  • Why is the UpdatePanel Response size changing on alternate requests?

    We are using UpdatePanel in a small portion of a large page and have noticed a performance problem where IE7 becomes CPU bound and the control within the UpdatePanel takes a long time (upwards of 30 seconds) to render. We also noticed that Firefox does not seem to suffer from these delays. We ran both Fiddler (for IE) and Firebug (for Firefox) and noticed that the real problem lied with the amount of data being returned in update panel responses. Within the UpdatePanel control there is a table that contains a number of ListBox controls. The real problem is that EVERY OTHER TIME the response (from making ListBox selections) alternates from 30K to 430K. Firefox handles the 400+K response in a reasonable amount of time. For whatever reason, IE7 goes CPU bound while it is presumably processing this data. So irrespective of whether or not we should be using an UpdatePanel or not, we'd like to figure out why every other async postback response is larger by a factor of more than 10 than the previous one. When the response is in the 30K range, IE updates the display within a second. On the alternate times, the response time is well over 10 times longer. Any idea why this alternating behavior should be happening with an UpdatePanel?

  • C# Thread Pool Cross-Thread Communication

    The Scenario I have a windows forms application containing a MAINFORM with a listbox on it. The MAINFORM also has a THREAD POOL that creates new threads and fires them off to do lots of different bits of processing. Whilst each of these different worker threads is doing its job, I want to report this progress back to my MAINFORM, however, I can't because it requires Cross-Thread communication. Progress So far all of the tutorials etc. that I have seen relating to this topic involve custom(ish) threading implementations, whereas I literally have a fairly basic(ish) standard THREAD POOL implementation. Since I don't want to really modify any of my code (since the application runs like a beast with no quarms) - I'm after some advice as to how I can go about doing this cross-thread communication. ALTERNATIVELY - How to implement a different "LOGTOSCREEN" method altogether (obviously still bearing in mind the cross-thread communication thing). WARNING: I use this website at work, where we are locked down to IE6 only, and the javascript thus fails, meaning I cannot click accept on any answers during work, and thus my acceptance rate is low. I can't do anything about it I'm afraid, sorry. EDIT: I DO NOT HAVE INSTALL RIGHTS ON MY COMPUTER AT WORK. I do have firefox but the proxy at work fails when using this site on firefox. FURTHER EDIT: I DO NOT WANT TO CHANGE MY THREADING IMPLEMENTATION. AT ALL! - Accept to enable cross-thread communication....why would a backgroundworker help here!?

I read through http://blogs.sun.com/jonthecollector/entry/did_you_know which had a suggestion of enabling CMSScavengeBeforeRemark, but the side effects of pausing did not seem ideal. Could anyone offer up any suggestions? Also I was wondering if anyone had a good reference for grokking the CMS GC logs, in particular this line: [1 CMS-remark: 16015K(393216K)] 71979K(511232K), 0.0746640 secs] Not clear on what memory regions those numbers are referring to.

    For TDD you have to Create a test that fail Do the simplest thing that could possible work to pass the test Add more variants of the test and repeat Refactor when a pattern emerge With this approach you're supposing to cover all the cases ( that comes to my mind at least) but I'm wonder if am I being too strict here and if it is possible to "think ahead" some scenarios instead of simple discover them. For instance, I'm processing a file and if it doesn't conform to a certain format I am to throw an InvalidFormatException So my first test was: @Test void testFormat(){ // empty doesn't do anything nor throw anything processor.validate("empty.txt"); try { processor.validate("invalid.txt"); assert false: "Should have thrown InvalidFormatException"; } catch( InvalidFormatException ife ) { assert "Invalid format".equals( ife.getMessage() ); } } I run it and it fails because it doesn't throw an exception. ( although the real code is a bit more complicated, I found my self doing something like this several times ) I know that I have to eventually add another file name and other test that would make this approach impractical and that would force me to refactor to something that makes sense ( which if I understood correctly is the point of TDD, to discover the patterns the usage unveils ) but: Q: am I taking too literal the "Do the simplest thing..." stuff?

  • Ant target generate empty suite xml file

    I am using ant for my project and I have been trying to generate JUnit report using ant target. The problem I run in to is that at the end of the execution my TESTS-TestSuites.xml is empty. But all the other individual test xml files have data. And due to this my html reports are empty, in the sense results shows "0".   • Java Swingworker: Not as encapsulated class

    I'm having problems passing information, updating progress and indicating "done" with a SwingWorker class that is not an encapsulated class. I have a simple class that processes files and directories on a hard drive. The user clicks on the Start button and that launches an instance of the SwingWorker. I would like to print the names of the files that are processed on the JTextArea in the Event Driven Thread from the SwingWorker as update a progress bar. All the examples on the web are for an nested class, and the nested class accesses variables in the outer class (such as the done method). I would also like to signal the Event Driven Thread that the SwingWorker is finished so the EDT can perform actions such as enabling the Start button (and clearing fields). Here are my questions: 1. How does the SwingWorker class put text into the JTextArea of the Event Driven Thread and update a progress bar? How does the EDT determine when the {external} SwingWorker thread is finished? {I don't want the SwingWorker as a nested class because there is a lot of code (and processing) done.}

  • Threading best practice when using SFTP in C#

    Ok, this is more one of these "conceptual questions", but I hope I got some pointers in the right direction. First the desired scenario: I want to query an SFTP server for directory and file lists I want to upload or download files simulaneously Both things are pretty easy using a SFTP class provided by Tamir.SharpSsh, but if I only use one thread, it is kind of slow. Especially the recursion into subdirs gets very "UI blocking", because we are talking about 10.000 of directories. My basic approach is simple, create some kind of "pool" where I keep 10 open SFTP connections. Then query the first worker for a list of dirs. If this list was obtained, send the next free workers (e.g. 1-10, first one is also free again) to get the subdirectory details. As soon as there is a worker free, send him for the subsubdirs. And so on... I know the ThreadPool, simple Threads and did some Tests. What confuses me a little bit is the following: I basically need... A list of threads I create, say 10 Connect all threads to the server If a connection drops, create a new thread / sftp client If there is work to do, take the first free thread and handle the work I am currently not sure about the implementation details, especially the "work to do" and the "maintain list of threads" parts. Is it a good idea to: Enclose the work in an object, containing a job description (path) and a callback Send the threads into an infinite loop with 100ms wait to wait for work If SFTP is dead, either revive it, or kill the whole thread and create a new one How to encapsulate this, do I write my own "10ThreadsManager" or are there some out Ok, so far... Btw, I could also use PRISM events and commands, but I think the problem is unrelated. Perhaps the EventModel to signal a done processing of a "work package"... Thanks for any ideas, critic.. Chris
