To solve this problem, please turn on the X11 forwarding features of the remote SSH server can anyone suggest me how to get rid off this ?

  • Snow Leopard - resolving hostnames issue

    - by romant
This worked in Leopard, although since Snowie came along … I have a Location setup with a DNS server to use [eg 10.0.0.17] , and a search string [eg sub.dom.ain.com] In the terminal: $ nslookup cake Server 10.0.0.17 Address: 10.0.0.17#53 Name: cake.sub.dom.ain.com Address: 10.0.0.38 So works like a charm. Although if I just the hostname cake in any other application within OSX - such as Safari/CoRD, they simply can't resolve the hostname. I have to instead use the FQDN cake.sub.dom.ain.com - why is this so? Why did this work in Leopard and is now broken? Would love a solution. Thanks

  • How to extend Wi-Fi signal across rooms?

    - by Sriram Krishnan
I moved into a new place and my old Wi-Fi router just doesn't have the range to get into all the rooms. I've been investigating a lot of options and I'm wondering what other folks have done here. Moving the current location of my primary Wi-Fi router is not an option thanks to our cable provider and our landlord. Buy a bigger, beefier router (seems expensive). If so, should I go for one of those draft 802.11n ones to avoid microwave/other Wi-Fi router interference? Set up a router with DD-WRT as a repeater Leech the neighbors' open Wi-Fi access point. Alright, I was kidding about the last one but I'm genuinely curious as to what my best option is.

  • Is it possible to run Modern UI Apps in Windows 7

    - by soandos
It seems like a basic question, but is there a way to run Windows 8 (Modern Apps) in Windows 7 (without a VM, that seems like cheating)? My hunch is that it would be possible with some sort of hack, as the code is written in the same .Net languages as many other programs. The only issue would be intercepting the finger to corner gestures, but I am not sure how much is there really (is it just a location, or a special win API call). Is there software that can do this, or options that need to be changed to make this work?

  • Why can't connect with second computer in same LAN and settings?

    - by user930450
I'm trying to connect to WLAN with notebook. The notebook works fine with other WLANs. It can authenticate, signal is "very good" but it says "can't access internet". (On Windows it's small yellow exclamation mark on the signal). With other computer exactly in the same location, with the same settings, it's possible to connect. Both are configurated to get IP dynamically. One difference is that the other computer is using "Ralink wireless" instead normal windows client to connect. But does this make a difference? the settings are the same. What could be the reason?

  • Using a buffalo wl12-pci-g54s on Debian Linux

    - by Nic Hubbard
I have a buffalo wl12-pci-g54s wireless card that I want to install in my PC running Debian. I need this so I can move the server to a better location in another room. So, is there an easy way to do this? Some package that I can install and get up and running? Other instructions that I found online have been confusing. I am also using a static IP, so I need to retain that when I make the switch. Thanks!

  • Why is DAVExplorer not connecting?

    - by C.W.Holeman II
DAVExplorer is not connecting. Connecting to a WebDAV Server states: Once you have entered a location URL, and (if necessary) your login name and password, DAV Explorer will connect to the remote WebDAV server, and request a listing of the resources there. A hierarchical view of the sub-collections will be displayed Invoke Apache Jackrabbit $ java -jar jackrabbit-standalone-2.0.0.jar --port 8200 Welcome to Apache Jackrabbit! ------------------------------- Using repository directory jackrabbit Writing log messages to jackrabbit/log Starting the server... • SNMPD - passing values in a trap

    - by ethrbunny
Im trying to create an SNMP setup to monitor 500-1K machines. Each will be joined to the SNMPTRAPD server via a VPN. When the client system sends its messages, it's sending its internal address instead of the VPN address even though the 'trapsync' command is using the VPN. This will be a problem as many of these system will have DHCP addresses based on location so there will be overlap. What I'd like to figure out is how to pass extra values with the trap so I can identify which system a given trap comes from.

  • Rainmeter customization issues, pretty basic

    - by user62865
I'll admit it; I'm new to using Rainmeter. What I want to do is create two panels (one left, the other on the right) that mirror one another. One side I want to work for the Eastern US while the other for the UK. I want to keep digital clocks, the same style etc., on both sides with their respective time zone. On top of this I want to have weather reports for the whole day (Current weather and temp, morning, afternoon, and night) for each location. However, I have not been able to find any skins which allow this. For whatever reason every time I try to load a skin for a clock I can only load it for one clock of that type and I'm having the same issue with the weather skins. Could anyone please tell me what skins I should look at and how to get a mirrored look?

  • What is the standard place for static library files on Unix/Ubuntu

    - by Max
Hi, I am trying to install a library manually, well actually just put it in a sensible location preferably in my LIB path. I have a lib[...].a file and a bunch of headers pertaining to that static library file. If I look under /usr/lib/ I see only .so files, likewise for /lib/, /lib32/ etc. I figure I could chuck it in there, but is there any place where it can get cozy with other .a files or is that as good place as any? I'm not an library expert, but I'm pretty sure it won't matter functionally, but I'd like to learn conventional best practice. Also, where is the standard place to put the headers? Thanks!

  • Bash script for mysql backup - error handling

    - by Jure1873
I'm trying to backup a bunch of MyISAM tables in a way that would allow me to rsync/rdiff the backup directory to a remote location. I've came up with a script that dumps only the recently changed tables and sets the date of the file so that rsync can pick up only the changed ones, but now I don't know how to do the error handling - I would like the script to exit with a non 0 value if there are errors. How could I do that? #/bin/bash BKPDIR="/var/backups/db-mysql" mkdir -p $BKPDIR ERRORS=0 FIELDS="TABLE_SCHEMA, TABLE_NAME, UPDATE_TIME" W_COND="UPDATE_TIME >= DATE_ADD(CURDATE(), INTERVAL -2 DAY) AND TABLE_SCHEMA<>'information_schema'" mysql --skip-column-names -e "SELECT $FIELDS FROM information_schema.tables WHERE $W_COND;" | while read db table tstamp; do echo "DB: $db: TABLE: $table: ($tstamp)" mysqldump $db $table | gzip > $BKPDIR/$db-$table.sql.gz touch -d "$tstamp" $BKPDIR/$db-$table.sql.gz done exit $ERRORS

  • How can I make all GTK+ apps on Windows pick up themes from the same folder?

    - by Mussnoon
I have several GTK+ apps installed (pidgin, GIMP, KeepNote et al) and I also have GTK2 themes installed separately in one location. However, picking/selecting a theme from the GTK+ theme selector does not make all the apps use that theme unless I copy and paste all the themes (or at least the one I selected) manually to the "themes" folder for each app (even that doesn't work at times - for KeepNote, for instance). This gets rather tedious and is also a waste of space. Isn't there a way to make all GTK+ apps use the same folder for themes? If yes, how?

  • Virtual box - How to add disks and move var, opt and home to them?

    - by Jarrod Roberson
I created a CentOS 5.6 Guest OS Virtual Machine. I made the first disk 10GB, I am rapidly outgrowing it. It was suggested that I make disks for my /var, /opt and /home directories and move them so I can better manage the disks for backing up and what not. This sounds like a good idea. I know how to create the disks in Virtual Box. I have dug around Google and the internet in general and all my attempts at doing this have failed. Snapshots are awesome! I can get the drives fdisked, and I have had limited success mounting them to /mnt/var, /mnt/home and /mnt/opt, but even in single user mode ( init 1 ) I can't get the entire contents of the directories to move over, and then the machine won't reboot correctly. cd /var cp * -ax /mnt/var The /var directory in particular is not wanting to move everything to the new location. How do I format, mount and move the /var, /opt and /home to my new disks?

  • Snow Leopard: Optimization

    - by Shyam
Hi, I have bunch of questions: I have a Mac network, which has five Mac's. Right now, they are individually getting software updates. Is there a way to download the patches/security updates in a single place (repository) and point all machines to this location? Personally, I have tools like Monolingual and Onyx, but are there tools you could recommend that affect the performance of the Operating System positively? Tweaks would be nice. Links and pointers, would be really appreciated. I've read about Time machine, is there a way to backup all machines to a network drive using this tool? Thanks!

  • IMAP/POP won't send allow emails to outside- New Dell PowerEdge T310 running SBS 2011

    - by user779887
I have a brand new out of the box Dell PowerEdge T310 running SBS 2011. Our employees at our remote offices can't send emails to recipients outside of our own domain. The workstations at the same location as the server aren't having any problem. I would at this time like to say "Thanks a lot" to the super-minds at Microsoft for protecting our email server from rogue computers attempting to send fake emails. (Silly me I thought proper login and password conventions would handle that.) I know this is something dealing with relaying but thus far nothing from any posts I've read have changed anything. Honestly, if someone is crafty enough to guess one of our login/password combos, let them send emails through our server I don't care!

  • Software for scanning installation process?

    - by no name
I forgot what is the name of the very good software which make some kind of restore point (save registry, and program files folder, etc...) before installing any software. After you install some program (ie "Notepad++") you can easily see what registry data use new installed program, on what location are the file's is stored and many more. The reason that I'm asking for help is that I have to automate some installation of public software, so after installation I need to uninstall it, so i have to delete all junk files. The software is called something like install wizard, or wizard install I forgot. If you have any idea of other application that do same thing , or you know exactly name of that software, or you have some good idea how to solve easy solve many installation and uninstallation, please let me know. As this is an important document I want to keep it all the time inside the Google Drive location to ensure cloud backup but this ofcourse is not guaranteed if this makes my Google Drive crash all the time. I don't seem te be able to identify what is causing this and I was hoping that maybe some people here have any idea what might cause this? We're talking about a 8 pages document with 3 images, so nothing crazy big or complex.

  • Nginx reverse proxy + URL rewrite

    - by jeffreyveon
Nginx is running on port 80, and I'm using it to reverse proxy URLs with path /foo to port 3200 this way: location /foo { proxy_pass http://localhost:3200; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; } This works fine, but I have an application on port 3200, for which I don't want the initial /foo to be sent to. That is - when I access http://localhost/foo/bar, I want only /bar to be the path as received by the app. So I tried adding this line: rewrite ^(.*)foo(.*)$ http://localhost:3200/$2 permanent; This causes 302 redirect (change in URL), but I want 301. What should I do?

Im in the process of setting up a new database server. I have been running a few mysql database servers before and it has been working okay. But i would like to hear the recommended setup for my server. For example, what should i set the max connection, query_cache_size, table_cache and so on. I have arround 4-600 per second: Open tables: 112 Queries per second avg: 430.386. The server i am setting it up on have the following configuration: Linux version 2.6.32-5-amd64 (Debian 2.6.32-41squeeze2) 2x Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53GHz 4GB Ram /, /boot, /tmp etc on Software RAID1, 2x 7200RPM SATA Data location on Software RAID0, 2x7200RPM SATA Im am going to place the mysql databases on the RAID0. Am im missing anything? Let me know! Thanks in advance, im looking forward to hearing from you :-) /Rasmus
