• How can I find out what .desktop file is being launched?

  I've used click install and click register to install a click app on Ubuntu (not Ubuntu Touch). The version was 0.5.1. Now, a new version (v0.5.6) is available and I installed it using the same method. Is there some tool that shows where a given .desktop file is, or is there a way to see the equivalent to $PATH for .desktop files? • Community TFS Build Manager available for Visual Studio 2012 RC

  I finally got around to push out a version of the Community TFS Build Manager that is compatible with Visual Studio 2012 RC. Unfortunately I had to do this as a separate extension, it references different versions of the TFS assemblies and also some properties and methods that the 2010 version uses are now obsolete in the TFS 2012 API. To download it, just open the Extension Manager, select Online and search for TFS Build:   You can also download it from this link: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/cfdb84b4-285e-4eeb-9fa9-dad9bfe2cd10 The functionality is identical to the 2010 version, the only difference is that you can’t start it from the Team Explorer Builds node (since the TE has been completely rewritten and the extension API’s are not yet published). So, to start it you must use the Tools menu: We will continue shipping updates to both versions in the future, as long as it functionality that is compatible with both TFS 2010 and TFS 2012. You might also note that the color scheme used for the build manager doesn’t look as good with the VS2012 theme….   Hope you will enjoy the tool in Visual Studio 2012 as well. • No sound, can't adjust alsamixer volume

  I have no sound on my ubuntu and I do not know why. I saw a lot of posts about that, I tried a lots of solutions that I found (especially this one) but it still does not work. I suspect alsamixer. • Using Git with TFS projects

  If you having been following the updates to CodePlex over the last several months you will have noticed that we added support for Git source control. It is important to the CodePlex team to enable developers to use the source control system that supports their development style whether it is distributed version control or centralized version control. There are many projects on CodePlex that are using TFS centralized version control. But we continue to see more and more developers interested in using Git. Last week Brian Harry announced a new open source project called Git-TF. Git-TF is a client side bridge that enabled developer to use Git locally and push to a remote backed by Team Foundation version control. Git-TF also works great for TFS based projects on CodePlex. You may already be familiar with git-tfs. Git-TFS is a similar client side bridge between Git and TFS. Git-TFS works great if you are on Windows since it depends on the TFS .Net client object model. Git-TF adds the ability to use a Git to TFS bridge on multiple platforms since it is written in Java. You can use it on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows, etc. Since you are connecting to a TFS Server when using Git-TF make sure you use your CodePlex TFS account name: snd\YOUR_USERNAME_cp along with your password. • designing solution to dynamically load class

  Background Information I have a web app that allows end users to connect to ssh-enabled devices and manipulate them. Right now, i only support one version of firmware. The logic is something like this: user clicks on a button to run some command on device. web application looks up the class name containing the correct ssh interface for the device, using the device's model name. (because the number of hardware models is so small, i have a list that's hardcoded in my web app) web app creates a new ssh object using the class loaded in step 2. ssh command is run and session closed. command results displayed on web page. This all works fine. Now the end user wants me to be able to support multiple versions of firmware. But the catch is, they don't want to have to document the firmware version anywhere becuase the amount of overhead this will create in maintaining the system database. In other words, I can't look up the firmware version based on the device. The good news is that it sounds like at most, I'll have to support two different versions of firmware per device. One option is to name the the classes like this: deviceX.1.php deviceX.2.php deviceY.1.php deviceY.2.php where "X" and "Y" represent the model names, and 1 and 2 represent the firmware versions. When a user runs a command, I will first try it with one of the class files, if it fails, i can try with the second. I think always try the newer version of firmware first... so let's say in the above example, I would load deviceX.2.php before deviceX.1.php. This will work, but it's not very efficient. But I can't think of another way around this. Any suggestions?

• ASP.Net MVC 3: multiple versions of the site without changing of URL, is it possible?

  Our website is written in ASP.NET MVC 3 and we want to change a feature in the core functionality of the site. The problem is not every client can be moved to this new version/format (because of some technical inner restrictions) so it means that we need to keep 2 versions of the same functionality (backend and frontend) simultaneously. We don't want our clients to worry about URLs, so the ideal solution would be keep the same URL but redirect clients to the different versions. The information about clients is stored in database. So the moment when user (client) logs in we know which version of site we should show. I'm thinking about routing and areas but I'm not sure if it's possible for example to have 2 areas with the different versions of the same application. Or is it possible to load the assemblies on the fly? After user is logged in we can decide if (s)he should be redirected to the new or old version. As far as all the clients have been moved to the new version we don't need this system more. How can I do this in ASP.NET MVC?

  I have an XML where I have a name space '_spreadSheetNameSapce'. In my code I have to add a new element with attribute associated with the name the space and I am doing it like the following XElement customHeading = new XElement("Row", new XAttribute(_spreadSheetNameSapce + "AutoFitHeight", "0")); It creates the XElement properly but it does insert xmlns="" entry also in the same element. I do not want that element to be created. How can I create the Xelement without the empty name space or how can I remove the namespace after the element is created? Thanks a lot.

• jqGrid jQuery UI button wrapping in toolbar

  I have a jQuery UI Button that I'm placing in a jqGrid toolbar but the contents of the button are wrapping. I've tried to prevent the wrapping by using CSS white-space Property to no avail. • How to undo an hg merge? (I think.)

  I'm new to collaborating with Mercurial. My situation: Another programmer changed rev 1 of a file to replace 4-space indents with 2-space indent. (I.e. changed every line.) Call that rev 2, pushed to the remote repo. I've committed substantive changes rev 1 with various code changes in my local workspace. Call that rev 3. I've hg pulled and hg mergeed without a clear idea of what was going on. The conflicts are myriad and not really substantive. So I really wish I'd changed my local repo to 2-space indents before merging; then the merge will be trivial (i'm supposing). But I can't seem to back up. I think I need to hg update -r 3 but it says abort: outstanding uncommitted merges. How can I undo the merge, changes spacing in my local repo, and remerge?

• How to change line thickness in iText?

  I'm drawing images to pdf using Java framework iText. I need to draw lines of specified width. There is a method setLineWidth(float width) in class PdfContentByte that should change it. However no matter what value I pass as its parameter the lines drawn are always extra thin. There is following line in javadoc of setLineWidth: The line width specifies the thickness of the line used to stroke a path and is measured in user space units. I don't know what is "space unit". Everything else in iText seems to be measured in point(around 1/72 inch). I cant find any reference to what are those "space units" and how to change them. code: to.setLineWidth(thickness); to.moveTo(x, y); to.lineTo(x + 100, y + 100); Variable to contains instance of PdfContentByte.

• What happens after a packet is captured?

  Hi all, I've been reading about what happens after packets are captured by NICs, and the more I read, the more I'm confused. Firstly, I've read that traditionally, after a packet is captured by the NIC, it gets copied to a block of memory in the kernel space, then to the user space for whatever application that then works on the packet data. Then I read about DMA, where the NIC directly copies the packet into memory, bypassing the CPU. So is the NIC - kernel memory - User space memory flow still valid? Also, do most NIC (e.g. Myricom) use DMA to improve packet capture rates? Secondly, does RSS (Receive Side Scaling) work similarly in both Windows and Linux systems? I can only find detailed explanations on how RSS works in MSDN articles, where they talk about how RSS (and MSI-X) works on Windows Server 2008. • Grails and PermGen issue with g:link and g:render

  I've been running grails for sometime without any issues but recently after an upgrade to Grails 1.1.1, I've encountered the dreaded PermGen errors. Prior to the upgrade, no such issue. The error seems to be happening when the <g:link> and <g:render> tags are used in a GSP although I'm not sure it's indicative that this is the issue but more of the fact that it ran out of space when these tags were being rendered. Typically, everyone who encounters PermGen errors recommend increasing your java environment options -- but what maybe the source of the issue? Is it a Grails 1.1/hibernate/spring problem? • Flex TextArea leading invalid

  Hi, When I set leading to 0 with Verdana (and others to) for a Flex TextArea I get strange results: fontsize - space between baselines 8 - 10 (125%) 10 - 12 (120%) 12 - 14 (117%) 14 - 17 (121%) 16 - 18 (113%) 18 - 22 (122%) 20 - 25 (125%) 25 - 31 (124%) shouldn't all of these be the same (should only be 100%)? Or least follow a pattern, because I can't se any. :( When i set leading to 0, the space between my baselines should be the same as the font size/height. This is not the case here. How do I know how to get the space between the baseline to be equal to the height of the font?

I have looked at the usual Gson help sources, including here, but I can't seem to come up with the solution. Serialization works fine with Gson. The JSON below was produced by Gson. • How to check if an apply-template filled variable is a string or (possibly) empty node in XSLT?

  I need a test which would evaluate to true in two cases: There is a string inside which contains any non white space characters There is any node (which can be possibly empty) on a variable that is filled with apply-template call result. I tried test="normalize-space($var)" but this doesn't cover the empty tag possibility. I also tried simply this: test="$var" but this evaluate to true even for white space only strings. By the way "$var/*" produces an error "Expression ...something I don't remember... node-set" which is I think because of apply-template variable instantiation. Is there any (which means even multi level decision) solution for this? EDIT: I forgot to say that it's for XSLT 1.0 and preferably without any exslt extensions or similar.

  i am completely new to regular expressions and am trying to create a regular expression in flex for a validation. using a regular expression, i am going to validate that the user input does NOT contain any white-space and consists of only characters and digits... starting with digit. so far i have: expression="[A-Za-z][A-Za-z0-9]*" this correctly checks for user input to start with a character followed by a possible digit, but this does not check if there is white space...(in my tests if user input has a space this input will pass through validation - this is not desired) can someone tell me how i can modify this expression to ensure that user input with whitespace is flagged as invalid?

• Declaring more than one SPIM array causes a syntax error

Unfortunately, the second array I declare ('b') causes the SPIM interpreter to spit out: spim: (parser) syntax error on line 3 of file spim.out b: .space 20 ^ Similar code works when I only have one array -- it seems to be the second that screws it up. I've prodded at it but can't figure out what it is about that statement that makes it break. Any thoughts? Thanks for any insight.

  After going thru some tutorials on SQL SERVER 2008's new feature SPARSE COLUMN, I have found that it doesn't take any space if the column value is 0 or null but when there is a value, it takes 4 times the space a regular(non sparse) column holds. If my understanding is correct, then why I will go for that at the time of database design? And if I use that, then at what situation so I be? Also out of curiosity, how come no space get's reserve when a column is defined as sparse column(I mean to say, what is the internal implementation for that) Thanks in advance

What does the free space of 31GB mean? If the maximum RAM can be allocated to innodb_buffer_pool_size is 1GB, is it possible to specify which tables to loaded into memory while keep others always read from disk? Thanks in advance.

  given a large list of alphabetically sorted words in a file,I need to write a program that, given a word x, determines if x is in the list. priorties: 1. speed. 2. memory I already know I can use (n is number of words, m is average length of the words) 1. a tri, time is O(log(n)), space(best case) is O(log(n*m)), space(worst case) is O(n*m). 2. load the complete list into memory, then binary search, time is O(log(n)), space is O(n*m) I'm not sure about the complexity on tri, please correct me if they are wrong. Also are there other good approaches?

• Obey the MediaBox/CropBox in PDF when using ghostscript to render a PDF to a png

  I've been using ghostscript to convert my single figure plots rendered in PDF to png: gswin32c -sDEVICE=png16m -r300x300 -sOutputFile=junk.png -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE Figure_001-a.pdf This works in the sense I get a png out and it contians the plot. But it contains a huge amount of white space as well (an example source image: http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1258681/files/Figure_001-a.pdf). If you view it in Acrobat you'll note there is no white space around the plot. If you use the above command line you'll find the plot is only about 1/3 of the space. When doing the same thing with an eps file I run into the same problem. However, there is the command-line parameter -dEPSCrop that one can pass to get the PS rendering engine to pay attention to the BoundingBox. I need the similar argument for rendering PDF's. I was not able to find it in docs (nor even the EPSCrop, actually).
