  • Add ability to provide list items to composite control with DropDownLIst

    I'm creating a composite control for a DropDownList (that also includes a Label). The idea being that I can use my control like a dropdown list, but also have it toss a Label onto the page in front of the DDL. I have this working perfectly for TextBoxes, but am struggling with the DDL because of the Collection (or Datasource) component to populate the DDL. Basically I want to be able to do something like this: <ecc:MyDropDownList ID="AnimalType" runat="server" LabelText="this is what will be in the label"> <asp:ListItem Text="dog" Value="dog" /> <asp:ListItem Text="cat" Value="cat" /> </ecc:MyDropDownList> The problem is, I'm not extending the DropDownList class for my control, so I can't simply work it with that magic. I need some pointers to figure out how I can turn my control (MyDropDownList), which is currently just a System.Web.UI.UserControl, into something that will accept List items within the tag and ideally, I'd like to be able to plug it into a datasource (the same functions that the regular DDL offers). I tried with no luck just extending the regular DDL, but couldn't get the Label component to fly with it.

    I'm developing an application using Java, Tomcat, Spring Framework and Spring LDAP 1.2.1 for LDAP access. According to our LDAP administrator, it is not possible to find out programmatically, if a specific user is locked out in the directory - the user is just not returned. This makes life difficult for me, as I need to identify locked out users. Is our administrator right, or is it possible somehow to find out, if a particular user is locked out? If yes, how?

A serial number may be granted per-machine (or per-operating-system) or per-user (as for CAL in Windows Server: if my application is used by several users on one machine or if it is used by one user on several machines). For per-operating-system licensing, I use SerialNumber of Win32_OperatingSystem. Is it a right thing to do it or is it completely wrong? Will it work on every Windows machine? (For example, using motherboard serial is wrong)

  • .NET WebBrowser control with Adobe SVG Viewer

    I'm having problems with SVG files loading in a .NET 2.0 WebBrowser control. If I create a new WinForms application project, drag a WebBrowser control and a button onto the Form1.cs design surface, and add a line to the button's on-click handler to set the Url property of the WebBrowser control to an SVG file, I get two IE script errors at runtime (as in, the dialog you get when there is a Javascript problem). The only line of code I'm writing is therefore: webBrowser1.Url = new Uri(@"http://wiki.allegro.cc/pub/f/fb/Grozilla.svg"); This SVG file loads fine if I browse directly to the link with IE; the errors I get via my test app are: line 2, char 1, error: Invalid character, followed by line 1, char 1, error: Object expected (assuming I answer yes to the prompt to 'continue running scripts on this page'). I'm using IE 7.0.5730.13, Adobe SVG Viewer 3.03 build 94, Visual Studio 2008. Can anyone replicate this? Has anyone seen it/got any idea how to fix it? (edit: previously setting the URL in the constructor for the purposes of the example, but this raised the question of whether or not the control had finished initialising, so have changed the example to use a button - the problem still occurs. This bug originally appeared in production code so the example program I wrote was an attempt to isolate the issue and reproduce it as simply as possible.) (edit 2: having tested on several different machines, this problems seems to be related to IE7 - run IE6, and everything works fine.)

  • How do I reliably get the size of my iPhone view taking rotations into consideration?

    My application uses a UITabBarController, multiple UINavigationControllers, and supports autorotation. In order to properly layout the subviews within each UIViewController's main view, I really need to know the size available to the UIViewContoller. I need this size to take the UINavigationBar, the UITabBar, and the status bar all into account, and thus only return the size available to the content view. I thought for sure I could use the following from within the UIViewController's code: CGRect viewControllerBounds = [[self view] bounds]; However, there are a couple of issues with this approach: The first time the view is loaded, viewControllerBounds reports the view as being 320 pixels wide by 460 pixels tall. This is wrong. With a status bar and a navigation bar showing, the height should only be 416 pixels. However, if I rotate the simulator to landscape and then rotate back, the height of viewControllerBounds changes to 416. If I rotate the first view in the navigation controller to landscape mode and then push another view controller onto the stack, viewControllerBounds for the new view reports a width of 300 pixels and a height of 480 pixels. So the view's bounds didn't even take the rotation into account. Is there a better way to do this? I really don't want to have to start hardcoding the widths and heights of all the various UI elements the iPhone OS provides. I have tried setting the autoresizing mask of the UIViewController's view, but that doesn't seem to change anything. The views definitely seem to be displaying properly. When I set a background color that view looks like it takes up all of the space available to it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm trying to get the users current latitude and longitude with this viewDidLoad method.   • ASP.NET MVC: Returning a view with querystring intact

    I'm creating a messaging web app in ASP.NET and are having some problems when displaying an error message to the user if they go to send a message and there is something wrong. A user can look through profiles of people and then click, 'send a message'. The following action is called (url is /message/create?to=username) and shows them a page where they can enter their message and send it: public ActionResult Create(string to) { ViewData["recipientUsername"] = to; return View(); } On the page that is displayed, the username is entered in to a hidden input field. When the user clicks 'send': [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection, string message) { try { //do message stuff that errors out } catch { ModelState.AddModelErrors(message.GetRuleViolations()); //adding errors to modelstate } return View(); } So now the error message is displayed to the user fine, however the url is changed in that it no longer has the querystring (/message/create). Again, this would be fine except that when the user clicks the refresh button, the page errors out as the Create action no longer has the 'to' parameter. So I'm guessing that I need to maintain my querystring somehow. Is there any way to do this or do I need to use a different method altogether?

My custom control is used to render an item within the Repeater. Because of this, I am trying to set properties on the custom control during the myControl_Load event handler. However, I do not know how to access the current item during the myControl_Load event. Is there a way I can pass along the current item or access the current item during the myControl_Load event?     I have a menu usercontrol called LeftMenu that has a bulletedlist of linkitems. It's on the ascx page as such: <asp:BulletedList ID="PublisherList" DisplayMode="LinkButton" OnClick="PublisherList_Click" cssClass="Menu" runat="server"></asp:BulletedList> I databind the list in the page_load under if(!isPostBack) I'm having an issue on a page that loads the control. When the page first loads, the event handler fires. However, when the page posts back it no longer fires and in IE8, when I'm debugging, I get "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected" in Visual Studio pointing at "doPostBack('LeftMenu$PublisherList','0')." In FF I don't get the error, but nothing happens. I'm **not loading the control dynamically, it's loaded on the aspx page using: <%@ Register TagPrefix="Standards" TagName="LeftMenu" Src="LeftMenu.ascx" %> <Standards:LeftMenu ID="LeftMenu" runat="server"/> Any ideas of where I'm losing the event handler? I just realized this is happening on another user control I have as well. A text box and a button and I'm using the default button to make sure pressing the enter key uses that button. .Net converts that in the html to: <div id="SearchBarInclude_SearchBar" onkeypress="javascript:return WebForm_FireDefaultButton(event, 'SearchBarInclude_QuickSearchButton')"> so as soon as i enter a key in the box I get a javascript error at the line saying "object expected." It seems like the two issues are related. Edit Again: I think I need to clarify. It's not that I'm clicking on the menu item and it can't find the selected item on postback. I have this search page with the left navigation on it and then the main content of the page is something that causes a postback. Everything is fine with this postback. Once that page has been posted back, now if I click on the bulleted list in the left navigation I get a javascript error and it fails. The page_init for the LeftMenu control is never called.

  • Rails: Multi-Step New User Signup Form (FSM?)

    I've read the "Create Multi-Step Wizard" in Advanced Rails Recipes. I've also read and re-read the documentation for the updated FSM I'm using called Workflow, and looked here and here. The Advanced Rails Recipe focuses on records (quizzes) that already exist, and doesn't cover creating new ones. The Workflow docs don't cover any code for controllers or views, so I've no idea what to do with all this model magic, and the last two links barely touch on implementation either. From the aforementioned resources, I have a good understanding of what a FSM in Rails is and how to play with it in the console or IRB, but I've got very little direction or understanding how to implement one into my Rails app. What I would like is this: a simple, multi-step user signup process. Step 1: User enters in their critical details (with validations). Step 2: User enters in their search criteria, for their profile (with validations). Step 3: User agrees to the Terms of Service (with validations). Step 4: User is greeted by a confirmation page, including a link that takes them to their newly created account. I'd also like full navigation between the steps and full capture (saves to the database) with each transition. Can someone please give me a clear implementation of something similar to this? I would LOVE an example app that includes a multi-step signup process where I can look at the code (FULL source code--models AND controllers and views) under the hood, but I've been unable to find anything like that.   • Branch view for a file that has been split into multiple files

    I have a large source file in Perforce that has been split up into several smaller files in a branch. I want to create a branch view that can handle this, but perforce (2009.1) only sees the last of the multiple files. For example, I created: p4 integrate //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/huge_file.c Later I split the huge file into smaller ones: p4 integrate //depot/new/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_one.c p4 integrate //depot/new/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_two.c p4 integrate //depot/new/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_three.c Then edit each of those (including //depot/new/huge_file.c) and submit. Now I make changes to //depot/original/huge_file.c and I want to integrate those changes to //depot/new. If I do this manually, it works fine: p4 integrate //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/huge_file.c p4 integrate //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_one.c p4 integrate //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_two.c p4 integrate //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_three.c But I don't want to do that every time I integrate -- this kind of thing belongs in a branch view. Unfortunately if the branch view includes the same source file multiple times, the subsequent lines override the earlier ones. How can I create a branch view like this: //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/huge_file.c //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_one.c //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_two.c //depot/original/huge_file.c //depot/new/small_file_three.c When I integrate using this branch spec, I get only small_file_three.c integrated.

  • Windows.Forms RichTextBox Control - Avoid inserting large data.

    I have a Windows Form with a RichTextBox on it. The content of the RichTextBox is written to a database field that ist limited to 64k data. For my purpose that is way more than enough text to store. I have set the MaxLength property to avoid insertng more data than allowed. rtcControl.MaxLength = 65536 Howevery, that only restricts the amount of characters that so is allowed to put in the text. But with the formatting overhead from the Rtf I can type more text than I should be allowed to. It even get's worse if I insert a large image, which dosn't increase the TextLength at all but the Rtf Length grows quite a lot. At the moment I check the Length of the richttextboxes' Rtf property in the FormClosing event and display a message to the user if it's to large. However that is just a workaround because I want to disallow putting more data than allowed into the control (like in a textbox if you exceed the MaxLength property nothing is inserted into the control and you hear the default beep(). Any ideas how to achive this? I already tried: using a custom control which extends the richtextbox and shadows th Rtf property to intercept the insertation. But it seems it isn't executed if I add text. Even the TextChanged Event does not fire if I type smth. in the control.

  • Multiple on-screen view controllers in iPhone apps

    I'm creating a lot of custom views and controllers in a lot of my apps and so far I've mostly set them up programmatically, with adjustments and instantiations being controlled from plists. However, now I'm transitioning to using Interface Builder as much as possible (wish I had done that before, was always on my back-list). Apple is recommending against having many view controllers being simultaneously active in iPhone apps, with a couple of well-known exceptions. I've never fully understood why it should be bad to have different parts of the interface belong to different controllers, if they have no interdependent functionality at all. Does having multiple controllers risk messing up the responder chain, or is there some other reason that it's not recommended, except for the fact that it's usually not needed? What I want to be able to do is design reusable views and controls in IB, but since a nib is not associated with a view, but with a view controller, it seems I'd have to have different parts of the screen be connected to different controllers. I know it's possible to have other objects than view controllers being instantiated from nibs. Should I look into how to create my own alternative more light-weight controllers (that could be sub-controllers of a UIViewController) which could be instantiated from nibs?

  • Apache 13 permission denied in user's home directory

    Hi, My friend's website was working fine until he moved the document root from /var/www/xxx to /home/user/xxx Apache give 13 permission denied error messages when we try to access the site via a web browser. The site is configured as a virtual directory. All the Apache configurations were unchanged (except for the directory change). We tried to chmod 777 /home/user/xxx, chown apache /home/user/xxx. But they didn't work. Is there some kind of security feature set on the user's home directories? The server OS is CentOS (Godaddy VPS). Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Decoupling the view, presentation and ASP.NET Web Forms

    I have an ASP.NET Web Forms page which the presenter needs to populate with controls. This interaction is somewhat sensitive to the page-life cycle and I was wondering if there's a trick to it, that I don't know about. I wanna be practical about the whole thing but not compromise testability. Currently I have this: public interface ISomeContract { void InstantiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control container); } This contract has a dependency on System.Web.UI.Control and I need that to be able to do things with the ASP.NET Web Forms programming model. But neither the view nor the presenter may have knowledge about ASP.NET server controls. How do I get around this? How can I work with the ASP.NET Web Forms programming model in my concrete views without taking a System.Web.UI.Control dependency in my contract assemblies? To clarify things a bit, this type of interface is all about UI composition (using MEF). It's known through-out the framework but it's really only called from within the concrete view. The concrete view is still the only thing that knows about ASP.NET Web Forms. However those public methods that say InstantiateIn(System.Web.UI.Control) exists in my contract assemblies and that implies a dependency on ASP.NET Web Forms.
