• Which tool can list writing access to a specific variable in C?

  Unfortunately I'm not even sure how this sort of static analysis is called. It's not really control flow analysis because I'm not looking for function calls and I don't really need data flow analysis because I don't care about the actual values. I just need a tool that lists the locations (file, function) where writing access to a specific variable takes place. I don't even care if that list contained lines that are unreachable. I could imagine that writing a simple parser could suffice for this task but I'm certain that there must be a tool out there that does this simple analysis. As a poor student I would appreciate free or better yet open source tools and if someone could tell me how this type of static analysis is actually called, I would be equally grateful! EDIT: I forgot to mention there's no pointer arithmetic in the code base.

  I'm Blackberry developer, customers using my application experiencing Error 523 and Error 200. Remedies to those errors are in first case - remove application, my application. In second case totally reload OS! This is very bad, and customers blame me! But this is I don't do anything illegal to make blackberry crash. I just used a lot of memory, which is obvious because customer want that. Everywhere including Blackberry knowledge base people talking how to fix the problem, which may happened to everybody using application from well known brands, for example Yahoo! finances. • How to change language/region in a YQL search.spelling/search.suggestion query?

  Hello, I'm trying to use YQL's spelling and search suggestions, but as much as I try I cant find a way to change the language/region for the query, how is this done? I want to look for spelling/suggestions in spanish/mexico ("es-MX") I'm pretty happy with the results I get for queries in English, but when looking in Spanish I get no results: select * from search.suggest where query="dolor de cabeza" <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <query xmlns:yahoo="http://www.yahooapis.com/v1/base.rng" yahoo:count="0" yahoo:created="2010-11-22T17:41:13Z" yahoo:lang="en-US"> <results/> </query> I've looked around for a way to change yahoo:lang="en-US" to yahoo:lang="es-MX" but I cant find andy documentation about it. • O(N log N) Complexity - Similar to linear?

  Hey All, So I think I'm going to get buried for asking such a trivial but I'm a little confused about something. I have implemented quicksort in Java and C and I was doing some basic comparissons. The graph came out as two straight lines, with the C being 4ms faster than the Java counterpart over 100,000 random integers. The code for my tests can be found here; android-benchmarks I wasn't sure what an (n log n) line would look like but I didn't think it would be straight. I just wanted to check that this is the expected result and that I shouldn't try to find an error in my code. I stuck the formula into excel and for base 10 it seems to be a straight line with a kink at the start. Is this because the difference between log(n) and log(n+1) increases linearly? Thanks, Gav

• C# Container Class

  I'm building a game in c# which allows you to script your own level, although I have come across a bit of a thought. I have a base class called "World" as an object. This was made with a simple: class World { However, when the user is scripting their level, all of the game objects will be contained in the world object. I want them to be able to do something on the lines of: World.ParentObjectName.ParentObjectProperty = "abc"; I know that the System.Windows.Forms.Panel and other classes are like containers and can have objects in them and be accessed in that kind of way... my question is how can I make a class which is like a container in which I can add objects to, and then access them with a World.ObjectName I have tried class World : System.Collections.CollectionBase, but with this method, I have to keep typing World.Item("ObjectName") Can anyone help? • Do I really have to call Focus in OnMouseDown of my custom Control?

  I'm implementing a custom control that inherits from Control. I want it to be focusable (it's a kind of list box). In the constructor, I do SetStyle(ControlStyles.Selectable, true); I can now use Tab to navigate to the control. However, when the control receives a mouse click, it does not automatically claim focus. I can work around this, of course: protected override void OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { Focus(); base.OnMouseDown(e); } But this feels like a kludge that should not be necessary. Is this really the way to go? Or is there some way to tell Control to claim focus automatically when it receives a mouse click?

• SVN - ignoring files already in repository

  I have a configuration file in my project which needs to be in the repository (so new developers get it when they checkout the project). Each developer might change some values in the file locally - these changes should not be committed and I don't want them showing in the synchronization menu (I'm using eclipse and subversive if it matters). Note that I can't just set the svn:ignore property since it only works on files that aren't under version control - but I do want to keep a base version of the file in the repository. How can I avoid the file showing in synchronization without deleting it from repository? EDIT: A better description - what I actually need is to be able to set a "read-only" property on the config file, so it can't be changed in the repository as long as the property is on. Do you know anything like this? Thanks

  I am trying to consume this WSDL service: Transit Time Service I successfully connect and get a response the first time but on subsequent calls I receive the exception: The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server. I overrode the GetWebRequest in the reference.cs file as such: protected override System.Net.WebRequest GetWebRequest(Uri uri) { HttpWebRequest webRequest = (HttpWebRequest)base.GetWebRequest(uri); webRequest.KeepAlive = false; return webRequest; } This hasn't yielded any improvement. I am at a loss as to what options I have now, does anyone have any other ideas that I could try so that I may avoid this error? Thanks in advance! Josh

• Javascript large number array compression

  Hi All, I've got a javascript application that sends a large amount of numerical data down the wire. This data is then stored in a database. I am having size issues (too much bandwidth, database getting too big). I am now ready to sacrifice some performance for compression. I was thinking of implementing a base 62 number.toString(62) and parseInt(compressed, 62). This would certainly reduce the size of the data but before I go ahead and do this I thought I would put it to the folks here as I know there must be some outside the box solution I have not considered. The basic specs are: - Compress large number arrays into strings for JSONP transfer (So I think UTF is out) - Be relatively fast, look I'm not expecting same performance as I have now but I also don't want gzip compression either. • Drupal OAuth Service Module

  I am trying to do some research into potentially setting up an existing Drupal site with user accounts/login page to also be an OAuth service provider, basically authenticating users to make calls with a web service. I am looking for a Drupal module which will give this functionality. Most of what I run into are OAuth consumer modules, which is not what I want in this case. I've found a few modules which I think might do this for me, but the module descriptions are generally pretty vague and don't have much of a user base which doesn't inspire much confidence. Has anyone else done this before? What are the best modules available for doing this?

• Why so many individual System.Web.* DLLs?

  I've been thinking about ways to refactor a fairly expansive class/utility library I have, and one thing I think I want to do is split off any higher-level helper utilities that introduce new dependencies. I read some previous questions here, and one that I particularly noticed was a comment about how Microsoft freely uses namespaces across DLLs. The example given was System.Web - it's in the base framework, but there's also a System.Web.dll that adds more functionality to the namespace if you want it. I also noticed several other System.Web.* DLLs available, and I was wondering if there's a reason why they wouldn't be combined into a single DLL. Could it be that they have their own individual dependencies and Microsoft (like me) wanted to separate assemblies along those lines? Or is it for easier maintenance? Something else entirely?

  Disclaimer: I've solved the problem using Expressions from System.Linq.Expressions, but I'm still looking for a better/easier way. Consider the following situation : var query = from c in db.Customers where (c.ContactFirstName.Contains("BlackListed") || c.ContactLastName.Contains("BlackListed") || c.Address.Contains("BlackListed")) select c; The columns/attributes that need to be checked against the blacklisted term are only available to me at runtime. How do I generate this dynamic where clause? An additional complication is that the Queryable collection (db.Customers above) is typed to a Queryable of the base class of 'Customer' (say 'Person'), and therefore writing c.Address as above is not an option.

• Constructors with inheritance in c++

  If you have 3 classes, with the parent class listed first shape- 2d shapes, 3d shapes - circle, sphere When you write your constructor for the circle class, would you ever just initialize the parent Shape object and then your current object, skipping the middle class. It seems to me you could have x,y coordinates for Shape and initialize those in the constructor, and initialize a radius in the circle or sphere class, but in 2d or 3d shape classes, I wouldn't know what to put in the constructor since it seems like it would be identical to shape. So is something like this valid Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : Shape(x, y), r(r) {} I get a compile error of: illegal member initialization: 'Shape' is not a base or member So I wasn't sure if my code was legal or best practice even. Or if instead you'd have the middle class just do what the top level Shape class does TwoDimensionalShape::TwoDimensionalShape(int x, int y) : Shape (x, y) {} and then in the Circle class Circle::Circle(int x, int y, int r) : TwoDimensionalShape(x, y), r(r) {}

• Using variables within Attributes in C#

  We have some Well-Attributed DB code, like so: [Display(Name = "Phone Number")] public string Phone { get; set; } Since it is quite generic we'd like to use it again, but with a different string in the Name part of the attribute. Since it's an attribute it seems to want things to be const, so we tried: const string AddressType = "Student "; [Display(Name = AddressType + "Phone Number")] public string Phone { get; set; } This seems to work alright, except that having a const string means we can't overwrite it in any base classes, thereby removing the functionality that we originally were intending to add, and exposing my question: Is there a way to use some sort of variable inside of an attribute so that we can inherit and keep the attribute decorations?

• Utilizing multiple python projects

  Hi I have a python app, that I'm developing. There is a need to use another library, that resides in different directory. The file layout looks like this: dir X has two project dirs: current-project xLibrary I'd like to use xLibrary in currentProject. I've been trying writting code as if all the sources resided in the same directory and calling my projects main script with: PYTHONPATH=.:../xLibrary ./current-project.py but this does not work. I'd like to use its code base without installing the library globaly or copying it to my project's directory. Is it possible? Or if not, how should I deal with this problem.

  Hi guys! For my small hobby project I need to emit machine code from C++ program in runtime. I have base address 0xDEADBEEF and want to write something like this: Assembler a((void*)0xDEADBEEF); a.Emit() << Push(Reg::Eax) << Push(Reg::Ebx) << Jmp(0xFEFEFEFE); Inline assembler isn't my choice because generated machine code is dependent of the program state. Does anybody know any existing library for doing this? If no, would it be a good idea to develop one from scratch and make it open source? (I mean, will anybody ever use this library if it existed?)

  Base on the documentation and sample code that I have gone through, I got an impression that when a class defined in xcode is read into and configured in Interface Builder, an object based on the class is effectively created and stored in an xib or nib file. So the object is ready to be used when the corresponding application is launched. Alternatively, for classes that have not been handled by Interface Builder, code such as the "new" statements have to be written in xcode explicitly in order for the associated objects to be created and used. It will be very nice to have people who are more knowledgable than me to confirm or to correct my very naive understanding of Interface Builder ...

  This is what I have in my schema section of my WSDL to specify the field has to be comparison operators <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:pattern value="&lt;|&gt;|&lt;=|&gt;=|="/> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> SoapUI complains about this part of the WSDL, I tried to set the value to something with non special characters and the WSDL is valid. So I tried to replace that whole long string to be value=">gt;" and it valid but value="<lt;" is not valid, and value=">" is also not valid. My question is, why does the WSDL validation need > to be double escaped? The main question is, how to provide a valid less than side within the pattern value.

Y can construct Lessthan, LessOrEqualThan etc equivalents as Expression has this operators predefined. ¿How can I transform this code to do the same with strings? Expression don't give me a predefined operator like "contains" or "startwith" and I'm really noob with Expression trees. Thanks, and please Post your answer in C#/VB.   I want all my views to inherit from a baseview data so I can set some shared properties that all my views will need. Can I set some properties in OnExecuting so I don't have to do it for all Actions? I want to then display the string value of the property in all my view pages. If yes, how can I do this? I need to hook into the base view data somehow? so i'll have: public MyViewData : ViewData { } And I need one for generics also?
