• Failure connecting to Dell MD3200i from XenServer 6.2 pool

  This question also asked at Citrix Forums http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=332289 I have a MD3200i that is currently working fine with my Xen5.6 pool, but I cannot get a connection to the new 6.2 pool to work. I previously had a problem with a 6.0 upgrade (which is why the old pool is still on 5.6), but rolled back rather than fix it as it wasn't urgent at the time. This install is on new machines - I tried 6.1 first (which had the same problems) then 6.2 was released the second day after installation so I switched to that. I've not installed anything from the Dell resource DVD at this point - I can't find anything saying I should, and everything I have read suggests it shouldn't be necessary. I can ping all 8 ip addresses from both servers in the pool, iscsiadm -m discovery works fine, I can login to the nodes and iscsiadm reports the sessions active correctly. I've added the required sections to multipath.conf, but multipath -ll reports DM multipath kernel driver not loaded immediately after boot.   Hello, I'm trying to make a bare-bone backup system with the most basic tools available on openSUSE 11.3 (in this case: bash, fdisk, tar & grub legacy) Here's the workflow for my scripts: backup.sh: (Run from external system, e.g. LiveCD) make an fdisk script ($fscript) from fdisk -l's output [works] mount the partitions from the system's fstab [works] tar the crucial stuff in file.tgz [works] restore.sh: (Run from external system, e.g. LiveCD) run fdisk $dest < $fscript to restore partitioning [works] format and mount partitions from system's fstab [fails] extract from file.tgz [works when mounting manually] restore grub [fails] I have recently noticed that openSUSE (though I'm sure it has nothing to do with the distro) has different output in /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst, more precisely the partition name is for example "/dev/disk/by-id/numbers-brandname-morenumbers-part2" instead of "/dev/sda2" -- but it basically is a simple symlink. My questions about this: what is the point of such symlinks, especially if we're restoring on a different disk? is there a way to cleanly prevent the creation of those symlinks and use the "true" /dev/sdx everywhere instead? if the previous is no, do you know a way to replace those symlinks on the fly in a text file? • How to access files on a drive from an older system, mounted in a new system?

  I've recently built a new system, after a rather large physical injury was sustained by my previous system (a precarious balance, and gravity, were not a happy mix). Surprisingly the /home drive of that system appears to have more-or-less survived the trauma. However... I decided to use a fresh drive for / (and swap) partition(s), and another fresh drive for the new /home. Now that's working, I decided to install the old /home drive (that I had assumed until now would be entirely dead and without capacity for use) into the new system to recover the files and data (so far as is possible). At this point I've run into a snag: I have no idea how to go about this (with Windows it was relatively easy, the new drive would be the latest character of the alphabet, and go from there). With 'disk utility' (System - Administration - Disk Utitlity) I've worked out which drive it is (/dev/sda) but clicking on 'mount' produces an error: 1: helper failed with: mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on / mount failed ...if it is mounted on / I can't see it. I'm also moderately confused by the disk (device /dev/sda) being referred to as /dev/sdb1. Any and all insights would be incredibly welcome (I've already voted for: Idea #9063: New internal hard drives default automount at Brainstorm). • New SSD, is the MBR broken? DISK BOOT FAILURE

  I've been running Windows 7 on a WD 500gb SATA single drive, single partition setup for some time with no issues. I've just installed a new Kingston V Series 64gb SSD and performed a clean install of Win7 to it, deleting the partitions on the 500gb and using that as a data drive. All was well for a few reboots but then I started to get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" messages. If I put the Win7 install DVD back in the drive it boots fine. Tried a clean install again, after replacing SATA cables and swapping SATA ports, with a complete partition wipe of both drives. Again, rebooted fine a few times then back with the "DISK BOOT FAILURE" error. Looked on the web and found some discussions about it so I then started from scratch again. This time I wiped the MBR on both drives using MBRWork, disconnected the 500gb and reinstalled to the SSD. Removed the install DVD and installed all the drivers which involved many reboots, all with no problem. To make sure I also did a few cold boots as well. Reconnected the 500gb, initialised, partitioned and formatted it. Copied data to it and did some more reboots and shutdowns. All was ok. Then out of the blue comes another "DISK BOOT FAILURE" and again, if the Win7 install DVD is in the drive it boots fine. So, is the SSD a bad'un? TIA UPDATE: It was a BIOS issue! I found a hidden away option for HDD boot order, which was separate from the usual HDD/CDRom/FDD boot order option. The WD was set to boot before the SSD... Swapped them round and all is well.   This should be easier! (both computers can see the internet etc so I know the network it’s self is working) I have a normal home network with a Windows XP machine on it and the new Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. So I can transfer the files to the new Windows 7 machine, I wish to share the complete disk (and all files) from the Windows XP machine and access them from the Windows 7 machine. Is there a step by step set of instructions for doing this anywhere? So fare I have: put both computers into the same workgroup put the windows 7 machine into work network mode so it can see the XP machine in the work group shared the XP disk as read only But when I try to access a lot of the folders on the XP disks, I am told I am not allowed to access them. (I was not asked for any passwords by the windows 7 machine when I accessed the XP machine. The XP machine just has its default account with no password set on it) The XP machine runs XP home and hence has "simple file shairing" turn on. So it seems that even if I create a admin account (with password) and connect with that account, it still comes in as "guest" on the XP machine. Chooseing to share the folder I want access to rather then the top of the disk drive seems to work, but is a pain as I need to share each user's folder with a different share name. If the new computer was not a laptop, I would just plug the hard disk from the old machine into it, but being a laptop I don't have that option.

  I had a Windows Server 2003 machine running at home, along with my desktop which I use for development. Server went belly up, but since my desktop is reasonably powerful, I figured I would move the disk from the file server (it was OK) into my XP machine to keep all of the files. Disk comes up fine and shows all of the files. I have been getting access denied errors when trying to work with some of the files. When I display attributes in Explorer, none of them are marked Read-Only. When I view properties on the directories, the Read-Only checkbox is not checked, but has a green background(which I thought meant mixed usage for files in the directory). When I click on the checkbox to clear it and click Apply, the disk does some work and all looks well. However, I continue to get the Access Denied errors, the files still don't show any Read-Only attribute and the directory properties shows the green background again on the Read-Only checkbox. I did check the box which says to apply the change to the folder and all files /subfilders under it. I am assuming that the issue relates to userids/permissions carried over from the Server install. So, why does it let me think I can change the attribute when I can't and how can I correct this problem so that the disk correctly recognizes the ids from XP?

  Although, I installed libxml2 once and reinstalled it for a few times. I cannot compile c-source code because compiler cannot find where the header file is. • SBS2003 to SBS2011 Migration - Installation Error

  Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 to 2011 Migration. I followed the Migration Guide from Microsoft and the source server had no errors when running the various tests prior to the migration. I have completed the destination server setup using the Answer File and the server is up and running. It all looks good, I can access Exchange and AD and the only problem is the error message when you log in stating that the setup did not complete and to check the logs. Because all looks good I am continuing the migration to the destination server. I also have to state that this client does not use Sharepoint at all. Do I have to redo everything? • MS Dynamics CRM trapping .NET error before I can handle it

I have written a custom search page that provides faster, more user friendly searches than the default Contacts view and also allows searching of Leads and Contacts simultaneously. I was only able to get the full error message by using the JavaScript debugger in IE. Having found this error, I thought the solution would be simple. I just needed to wrap my databind calls in try/catch blocks to capture any errors. Unfortunately it seems CRM's IIS configuration has the magic ability to capture this error before it ever gets back to my code. Using the debugger I never see it. It never gets to my catch blocks, but it's clearly happening in the SQL Data Source which is clearly (by the stack trace) being triggered by my GridView bind. Any ideas on this? It's driving me crazy.   I decided to try this suggestion to install Android x86 on Virtual Box. I'm following those steps and I'm at #4. I used the android-x86-4.0-RC1-amd_brazos.iso (because I have a ThinkPad that this might be compatible with and it seemed as good as any of the other choices...) I'm getting an endless series of errors: .[numbers] VFS: could not find a valid v7 on sda. .[numbers] VFS: could not find a valid v7 on sda. repeating... For storage, I made a VDI image sized at 4.0 GB (dynamically allocated) attached on SATA Port 0. Background and more details: I'm running Kubuntu 12.04. I installed VirtualBox 4.1.12 after adding deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian precise contrib to my sources. EDIT: Now I'm wondering if I installed the right package. I verified that I'm running 4.1.12. But I installed it with apt-get install virtualbox instead of the recommended apt-get install virtualbox-4.1. I checked just now and see this: apt-cache search virtualbox virtualbox - x86 virtualization solution - base binaries virtualbox-4.1 - Oracle VM VirtualBox But when I run VirtualBox, I get the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager version 4.1.12, so I think I'm OK. I did see one minor issue (possibly related to this question) when installing VB, but in my case I don't think it is actually an error at all: * No suitable module for running kernel found [fail] invoke-rc.d: initscript virtualbox, action "restart" failed. VirtualBox installed and seems to be running fine. I just can't get the ISO image to install. The error is as shown above.

  Event Log: "Failed to setup initiator portal. Error status is given in the dump data." This is being recorded every 3/100's of a second. We are using MS iSCSI Initiator on Windows Server 2003, Dell 2970 w/4GB (PAE). I am sure that this was configured by Dell initially. I have no idea what changes or mods were made since the company installed this machine until now. (I'm a new User so the lovely and vibrant screen images had to be removed. They were quite pretty and I am sure you would have been very moved and appreciative of them.) It appears that everything is installed correctly and the 5TB bound volume is accessible but I have never worked with iScsi before so I plead total ignorance. In searching I have found this to be a fairly sparce and bland documented subject. I'd like two things... First, to get rid of the error msg being logged. MS says it can be ignored if everything is working but it chews up resources logging it and I don't feel comfortable about any errors on my servers. I want to correct whatever is causing this problem. Secondly, being totally green to this, I would like to confirm that the setup is optimized and we are taking advantage of all features available. Although there are 3 NIC's in this machine it appears that the initiator is only configured for the Broadcom BMC5708C NetXtreme II on our 10.90.1.#, the other 2 NICS are 1GB on the 192.168.0.#. Would additional targets improve performance? If someone who is experienced in configuring the Microsoft iScsi Initiator can help I would really appreciate it since, as I mentioned, everything I have come across has not been of any value at all. • SQL Server 2008 Restore from Backup fails with error 3241 'cannot process this media family'

  I am attempting to backup a database from a SQL Server instance on one machine and restore it to another, and I am encountering the frequently discovered 'SQL Server cannot process this media family' error. Each of my instances are SQL Server 2008, but with different patch levels Restore: 10.0.2531.0 Backup: 10.0.1600.22 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 ) The restore DB is express. Not sure about the backup version. The backup version is on a virtual private server. The restore is on my development box. When I restore to a different database on the source (backup) server, it restores fine. Lots of stuff on google about this issue, some on stackoverflow about this issue, but nothing which is this exact situation. Any thoughts? It should be straightforward to do a backup and restore from one machine to another (having done this thousands of times in with SQL 6.5,7,2000,2005). Any ideas how to restore a database in this situation, which gives this error when attempting to restore? PARTIAL RESOLUTION: When I restored to a different box, running SQL 2008 Express on Windows Server 2003, all worked well. It just wouldn't work on the Windows 7 box. Not sure why. If anyone else has a similar experience, please let me know (there are many similar issues in different forums out there).

• Trying to run chrooted suPHP with UserDir, getting 500 server error

  I've managed to get suPHP working fine with UserDir (i.e. PHP files run from the /home/$username/public_html) directory, but I can't get it to work when I chroot it to the user's home directory. I've been following this guide: http://compilefailure.blogspot.co.nz/2011/09/suphp-chroot-gotchas.html And adapting it to my needs. I'm not creating vhosts, I just want PHP scripts to be jailed to the user's home directory. I've gotten to the part where you use makejail and set up a symlink. However even with the symlink set up correctly, PHP scripts won't run. This is what's shown in the Apache error log: SoftException in Application.cpp:537: Could not execute script "/home/jimmy/public_html/test.php" [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Caused by SystemException in API_Linux.cpp:444: execve() for program "/usr/bin/php-cgi" failed: No such file or directory The thing is, if I try running either of the following commands in the terminal it works without any issues: /home/jimmy/usr/bin/php-cgi /home/jimmy/public_html/test.php /usr/bin/php-cgi /home/jimmy/public_html/test.php I've been trying for hours to get this going and documentation for this kind of stuff is almost non-existent. If anyone could help me out with this, I'd be extremely grateful.

• BizTalk MQSC adapter configuration error & IBM WebSphere MQ Client V6.0

  Hi Guys, I'm having trouble configuring the MSQC adapter for BizTalk Server 2006. At the moment I'm getting the following error when setting up a receive location or send port: The adapter "MQSC" raised an error message. Details "The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) A dependency could not be found. Refer to product documentation for information on MQSC Adapter software prerequisites.".For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I have installed the IBM WebSphere Client v6.0 installed but was unable to find the "IBM fix pack 6.0.1.1" for the WebSphere CLIENT as some people have suggested. I have found this post (http://www.biztalkgurus.com/forums/p/3719/7212.aspx) which seems to shed some light on this issue, but I am unable to find the fix-pack that they speak of or resolve the problem Is anybody able to provide any further information? A link to download the IBM WebSphere MQ Client V6.0 fix pack 6.0.1.1 would be a great start! Thanks, Jason

• Postfix Send Error: Must Issue STARTTLS command

  Running Ubuntu 12.04 and trying to configure postfix to relay send and receive through GMAIL. Am running into connection issues particularly with TLS. Have tried a bunch of troubleshooting solutions and have changed my main.cf to address TLS but still receive the below errors. • Handling nmake errorlevel/return codes

  Hi all, I have an nmake-based project which in turn calls the asp compiler, which can throw an error, which nmake seems to recognize: NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe' : return code '0x1' However, when I call nmake from within a batch file, the environment variable %ERRORLEVEL% remains set at zero: nmake /NOLOGO echo BUILD RETURNING: %ERRORLEVEL% If I control-c the nmake task, I do end up getting a non-zero ERRORLEVEL (it's set to 2) so my assumption is that I'm able to catch errors okay, but nmake isn't bubbling up the non-zero exit code from it's task. Or, at least, I'm mis-trapping it. Any help would be appreciated.
