  • Twitter bootstrap modal loads wrong remote data

    - by Victor S
I'm using Twitter Bootstrap modal featurs and loading data from remote locations. I'm providing the remote url for a set of thumbnails with the hope that once the thumbnail is clicked, the appropriate data (a large version of the image) is displayed. I'm using the html declarative style to define the remote urls and all the features of the modal. What I find is that Twitter bootstrap modal loads first remote url then does not display subsequent remote data, (although a request to the proper url is made in Chrome) but displays first loaded data always. How do I get it to show the proper data? View: #gallery-navigation %ul - @profile.background_images.each do |image| %li = link_to image_tag(image.background_image.url(:thumb)), remote_image_path(image.id), :role => "button", :data => {:toggle => "modal", :target => "#image-modal", :remote => remote_image_path(image.id)}, :id => "image-modal" / Modal #image-modal.modal.hide.fade(role="dialog" aria-hidden="true" data-backdrop="true") .modal-body Controller: def remote_image @image = current_user.profile.background_images.find(params[:image_id]) respond_to do |format| format.html { render :partial => "remote_image", :locals => { :image => @image } } end end

  • Administrator account: Where, when and how?

    - by Pickels
Where, when and how to insert/create the administrator account for a website? Here are a few ways I encountered in other websites/webapplication. Installation wizard: You see this a lot in blog software or forums. When you install the application it will ask you to create an administrator user. Private webapplication will most likely not have this. Installation file: A file you run to install your application. This file will create the administrator account for you. Configuration files: A configuration file that holds the credentials for the administrator account. Manually insert it into a database: Manually insert the administrator info into the database.

  • CanCan polymorphic resource access problem

    - by Call 'naive' True
Hi everybody, i don't quite understand how to restrict access to links in this particular case with CanCan. I always get "Edit" link displayed. So i believe the problem is in my incorrect definition of cancan methods(load_ and authorize_). I have CommentsController like that: class CommentsController < ApplicationController before_filter :authenticate_user! load_resource :instance_name => :commentable authorize_resource :article def index @commentable = find_commentable #loading our generic object end ...... private def find_commentable params.each { |name, value| if name =~ /(.+)_id$/ return $1.classify.constantize.includes(:comments => :karma).find(value) end } end end and i have in comments/index.html.erb following code that render file from other controller: <%= render :file => "#{get_commentable_partial_name(@commentable)}/show.html.erb", :collection => @commentable %> you can think about "#{get_commentable_partial_name(@commentable)}" like just "articles" in this case. Content of "articles/show.html.erb": <% if can? :update, @commentable %> <%= link_to 'Edit', edit_article_path(@commentable) %> | <% end %> my ability.rb: class Ability include CanCan::Ability def initialize(user) user ||= User.new # guest user if user.role? :admin can :manage, :all elsif user.role? :author can :read, [Article, Comment, Profile] can :update, Article, :user_id => user.id end end end relations with models is: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :commentable, :polymorphic => true, :dependent => :destroy ... end class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments, :as => :commentable, :dependent => :destroy ... end i have tried debug this issue like that user = User.first article = Article.first ability = Ability.new(user) ability.can?(:update, article) and i always get "= true" in ability check Note: user.role == author and article.user_id != user.id if you need more information please write thank's for your time && sorry for my english

  • How to Style Custom Recaptcha Widget Using Ambethia Ruby Gem?

    - by cotopaxi
I'm not sure how to go about styling a custom theme Recaptcha widget using http://github.com/ambethia/recaptcha I want to resize the widget to fit in a form in a sidebar. If I do <%= recaptcha_tags :display => {:theme => 'custom', :custom_theme_widget => 'recaptcha_widget'} %> and add <div id="recaptcha_widget"> <div id="recaptcha_image"></div> <input type="text" id="recaptcha_response_field" name="recaptcha_response_field" /> </div> as per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1715575/recaptcha-form-customization I only get the response input field, and an error message in the source attribute of the img tag src="http://optim.coral.cs.cmu.edu/error/TypeError_Result_of_expression___recaptcha_response_field__null_is_not_an_object_" Has anyone found a good way to custom theme the Recaptcha widget using the Ambethia gem?

  • Devise authenticating with username instead of email

    - by teknull
I'm new to Devise and have it working fine by using an email address as the authentication key. However, I have a use case which requires a username instead and I can't seem to get it working. I've added a string column, "username" to the users table, changed the fields from :email to :username in the sign-in form, and have changed the authentication key in devise.rb to :username yet when I go to sign in I'm met with this prompt: "Please enter an email address". What am I doing wrong? **new.html.erb** <div><%= f.label :username %><br /> <%= f.email_field :username %></div> **User.rb** class User < ActiveRecord::Base # Include default devise modules. • Cucumber : Size of features

    - by David Lyod
Im new to testing with cucumber and have a question regarding the size of a 'Feature'. Assume you can add a collection of items to a list and do the usual CRUD , is it preferred to create one feature for this complete set of CRUD actions or a feature for each? What is the preferred/accepted method ? At what point does an action become a feature itself ?

  • Should I skip authorization, with CanCan, of an action that instantiates a resource?

    - by irkenInvader
I am writing a web app to pick random lists of cards from larger, complete sets of cards. I have a Card model and a CardSet model. Both models have a full RESTful set of 7 actions (:index, :new, :show, etc). The CardSetsController has an extra action for creating random sets: :random. # app/models/card_set.rb class CardSet < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :creator, :class_name => "User" has_many :memberships has_many :cards, :through => :memberships # app/models/card.rb class Card < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :creator, :class_name => "User" has_many :memberships has_many :card_sets, :through => :memberships I have added Devise for authentication and CanCan for authorizations. I have users with an 'editor' role. Editors are allowed to create new CardSets. Guest users (Users who have not logged in) can only use the :index and :show actions. These authorizations are working as designed. Editors can currently use both the :random and the :new actions without any problems. Guest users, as expected, cannot. # app/controllers/card_sets_controller.rb class CardSetsController < ApplicationController before_filter :authenticate_user!, :except => [:show, :index] load_and_authorize_resource I want to allow guest users to use the :random action, but not the :new action. In other words, they can see new random sets, but not save them. The "Save" button on the :random action's view is hidden (as designed) from the guest users. The problem is, the first thing the :random action does is build a new instance of the CardSet model to fill out the view. When cancan tries to load_and_authorize_resource a new CardSet, it throws a CanCan::AccessDenied exception. Therefore, the view never loads and the guest user is served a "You need to sign in or sign up before continuing" message. # app/controllers/card_sets_controllers.rb def random @card_set = CardSet.new( :name => "New Set of 10", :set_type => "Set of 10" ) I realize that I can tell load_and_authorize_resource to skip the :random action by passing :except => :random to the call, but that just feels "wrong" for some reason. What's the "right" way to do this? Should I create the new random set without instantiating a new CardSet? Should I go ahead and add the exception?

  • will_paginate link to nested resources

    - by neotracker
Hi, I'm using the will paginate gem from http://github.com/mislav/will_paginate Routes: map.resources :post do |post| post.resources :comments end Post Controller: @post = Post.first @comments = @post.comments.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10 My problem lies in the view: <%= will_paginate @comments %> This generates links like /post/1?page=1 What I need is /post/1/comments?page=1 Is there a way to just tell will_paginate what url helper to use? (like post_comments_path) Any ideas?

  • Counting distinct and duplicate attribute values in an array

    - by keruilin
I have an array of users that's sorted in descending order based on total_points. I need to find the rank of each user in that array. The issue is that more than one user can have the same total points and, thus, the same rank. For example, three users could be in 3rd place with 200 Points. Here's my current code: class Leader < ActiveRecord::Base def self.points_leaders all_leaders = all_points_leaders # returns array of users sorted by total_points in desc order all_leaders_with_rank = [] all_leaders.each do |user| rank = all_leaders.index(user)+1 all_leaders_with_rank << Ldr.new(rank, user) # Ldr is a Struct end return all_leaders_with_rank end end How must I modify the code so that the correct rank is returned, and not just the value of the index position?

    - by ZX12R
I have a form. I am trying to validate it through AJAX GET requests. So i am trying to send the field values in the GET request data. $('#uxMyForm').serialize(); the problem it is returning something undecipherable. I have used serialize before. This is totally bizzare. the return value of serialize is authenticity_token=oRKIDOlPRqfnRehedcRRD7WXt6%2FQ0zLeQqwIahJZJfE%3D&customer%5BuxName%5D=&customer%5BuxEmail%5D=&customer%5BuxResidentialPhone%5D=&customer%5BuxMobilePhone%5D=&customer%5BuxDateOfBirth%5D=&customer%5BuxAddress%5D=&customer%5BuxResidentialStatus%5D= i have no idea how to use this. • Is there a SaaS for logging user activity?

    - by JoshL
In almost every app that I build I create some kind of user log table to log various activities that my actual USERS (not visitors, but someone with an account) perform on the site. This is primarily used for customer service issues to allow me to pull up a record of the pages and actions that a user has visited. The downside to this is the size of the UserLogs table. It gets immense. I'm not sure if it is common practice or not for others to log INDIVIDUAL (not aggregate like Google Analytics) user behavior to a database, but if it is I'm wondering if any form of a SaaS exists to help offload this task? I essentially need a RESTful API that lets me store and retrieve individual user activity quickly and securely. Anyone know of any or am I the only one who has this issue?

  • numerical computation locks up ruby

    - by kolosy
i'm trying to implement an id obfuscation scheme, with a simple hash borrowed elsewhere. i've added a method on the application helper: @@M_ID = 2**31-1 @@PRIME = 1580030173 @@PRIME_INVERSE = 59260789 # (calculated from MAXID and PRIME offline) def obfuscate_id(x) if x return ((x * @@PRIME) & @@M_ID) else x end end for some reason, whenever this is called, ruby locks up, and starts eating up disk space on my mac... like - gigs of it. any ideas?

  • Creating relationship between two model instances

    - by Lowgain
This is probably pretty simple, but here: Say I've got two models, Thing and Tag class Thing < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :tags end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :things end And I have an instance of each. I want to link them. Can I do something like: @thing = Thing.find(1) @tag = Tag.find(1) @thing.tags.add(@tag) If not, what is the best way to do this? Thanks!

  • Is it possible to do have Capistrano do a checkout over a reverse SSH tunnel?

    - by James A. Rosen
I am developing an application that resides on a public host but whose source I must keep in a Git repository behind a corporate firewall. I'm getting very tired of the slowness of deploying via scp (copying the whole repository and shipping it over SSH on each deploy) and would like to have the remote host simply do a git pull to update. The problem is that the firewall prohibits incoming SSH connections. Would it be possible for me to set up an SSH tunnel from my computer to the deployment computer and use my repository as the source for the git pull? After all, git is distributed, so my copy is just as valid a repository as the central one. If this is possible, what would the tunnel command and the Capistrano configuration be? I think the tunnel will look something like ssh -R something:deployserver.com:something [email protected]

  • Is there a method I can use across controllers and if so, how do I use it?

    - by Angela
I have several controllers that take an instance of different classes each (Email, Call, Letter, etc) and they all have to go through this same substitution: @email.message.gsub!("{FirstName}", @contact.first_name) @email.message.gsub!("{Company}", @contact.company_name) @email.message.gsub!("{Colleagues}", @colleagues.to_sentence) @email.message.gsub!("{NextWeek}", (Date.today + 7.days).strftime("%A, %B %d")) @email.message.gsub!("{ContactTitle}", @contact.title ) So, for example, @call.message for Call, @letter.message for Letter, etcetera. This isn't very dry. I'd like to have something like def messagesub(asset) @asset.message.gsub.... end or something like that so I can just use messagesub method in each controller.

  • ruby1.9.1 can't find installed gems, yet ruby1.8 can...

    - by Zombies
On ubuntu here. I installed both ruby1.8 and ruby1.9.1. I also ran these commands ruby1.8 setup.rb ruby1.9.1 setup.rb Both worked fine, I was also able to install gems for both. The gems in gem 1.9.1 and gem1.8 both show up correctly for gem list. The problems however begin with this: ruby1.9.1 some_script.rb. It cannot find any of the gems. I tried uncommenting some out figuring that parseconfig was the problem, yet it couldn't find any of the others, which are definetly in gem1.9.1 list. Any thoughts as to what is causing this/how to recover?
