  • Json problem with Page Method call on IE 8.

    I have the following code that populates a select element with values from an ajax call, via a Page Method. In FF, the code works perfectly, in IE8 I get the error: 'ResourceList[...].id' is null or not an object.   • How to implement a ilike Facebook system without user authentication and still prevent users from cheating ?

    Hi, I am trying to implement something done in almost any website out there : a 'ilike' button (like Facebook) that does not require user authetication to be used for any article of my website written in Grails. I don't want to use any external solution, so I need to implement it myself (or use a grails plugin). So my question is : What does it take to implement this 'ilike' button and prevent users from cheating? For instance, do I need to store local cookies (I suppose yes)? Do I need to check the session ID and IP of the HTTP request? Any well-known implementation are welcomed. Thank you very much for your help.

    I have a web application in which a user has to upload images to a gallery. At the moment they need to upload one image at a time so it's pretty tedious. I'd like to implement a system where they could potentially drag and drop files into the browser, or select a folder to upload. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!   • How do Go web apps function from a server perspective?

    Hey Everyone, I followed the directions on how to create web applications using Go, and I was able to get an application working great. One thing I am confused about though is, when you run the application (./8.out), the terminal will sit there and listen on port 8080 until somebody accesses a page. Does the terminal need to stay up all of the time to run the web application? Does the application act like apache? Does apache need to be run next to this app? Setting this up on a server environment seems very confusing to me right now because I dont understand what the best way to do this is. Thanks for any help on this, Metropolis

I am impressed with the animation when the mouse is clicked and zooming into images from different angles.   • Silverlight 4 webclient authentication - anyone have this working yet?

    So one of the best parts about the new Silverlight 4 beta is that they finally implemented the big missing feature of the networking stack - Network Credentials! In the below I have a working request setup, but for some reason I get a "security error" when the request comes back - is this because twitter.com rejected my api call or something that I'm missing in code?     Hello stackers, I was arguing about an S3 like aproach using authorization hash with a secret key as the seed and some data on the request as the message signed with hmac sha1 (Amazon S3 way) vs an other developer supporting symetric encryption of the data with a secret key known by the emiter and the server. What are the advantage of using signed data with hmac sha1 vs symetric key other than the fact that with the former, we do not need to encrypt the username or password. What would be the hardest to break ? symetric encryption or sha1 hashing at la S3 ? If all big players are using oauth and similar without symetric key it is sure that there are obvious advantages, what are those ?

  • iOS Question. Is There a Framework for Build Time Based Apps.

    I have the need for some time based effects in the iPad app I am building. The UIView class animation capability beginAnimatins/commitAnimations is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for but it is restricted to specific properties of UIView deemed animatable. Ideally, I am looking for a solution that lets me drive an a time-based function that can perhaps send messages to a class of my own choosing at the rate I specify in the animation. Specifically, I have a function - my implementation of the RenderMan function "smoothstep" which is essentially an ease-in ease-out curve common in animation. It takes [0 - 1] as input and outputs [0 - 1] as the curve is evaluated. I want to drive this function for a duration of my own choosing at rate of my own choosing. Thanks in advance. -Doug

    Hi, I know at least two PHP source prettifiers and one for JavaScript, but all of them are written in those languages - PHP prettifiers in PHP, JavaScript in JS ;] Now what I'm looking for is a prettifier for those languages which is a native application - can be C/C++ or Pascal, so that I can run it from commandline. Possibly open source solution, as I might need to modify it a bit for my needs ... ( i need to run those prettifiers in batch mode ) any known programs / libraries for that?

    I have written an application that basically gathers up a bunch of text and numerical data from the client PC and stores it as an object. Right now I'm implementing XML serialization so that the file can be saved. The issue is now, how do I get this data to the server? I have a server running IIS 7 setup but I don't quite understand the ASP.net life cycle, so I'm not sure how to implement the receiving app. What should I do? Thanks

  • Automatically use inclusion tags (?) in a template, depending on installed apps

    The title may be a little confusing, but I don't know how else to call it. I would like to create a Django project with a large set of applications you could arbitrary turn on or off using INSTALLED_APPS option in settings.py (you would obviously also need to edit urls.py and run syncdb). After being turned on an app should be able to automatically: Register it's content in site-wide search. Luckily django-haystack has this built-in, so it's not a problem. Register cron jobs. django-cron does exactly that. Not a problem. Register a widget that should be displayed on the homepage. The homepage should include a list of boxes with widgets form different applications. I thought about inclusion tags, because you can put them anywhere on a page and they control both content and presentation. The problem is I don't know how to automatically get a list of inclusion tags provided by my applications, and display them one by one on a homepage. I need a way to register them somehow, and then display all registered tags.

    I've written lots of Excel macros in the past using the following development process: Record a macro. Open the VBA editor. Edit the macro. I'm now experimenting with a Visual Studio 2008 "Excel 2007 Add-In" project (C#), and I'm wondering if I will have to give up this development process. Questions: I know I can still record macros using Excel, but is there any way to access the resulting code in Visual Studio? Or do I just have to copy and paste then C#-ize it? What happens with my "Personal Macro Workbook"? Can I use the macros I have stored in there within C#? Or is there some way to convert them to C#? If there is some support for opening and editing VBA macros in Visual Studio, can you provide a very brief summary of how it works or point me to a good reference? Do you have any other tips for transitioning from writing macros in VBA using Excel's built-in editor to writing them in C# with Visual Studio?

  • Is MS Access still the most efficient RAD tool for small-scale custom apps?

    Of the many other development tools I've used, nothing holds a candle to the 'Functionality to Development Effort' ratio of MS Access. The reason I am asking is that I have been out of the language selection process for a few years, working on a large .Net system, and am only anecdotally familiar with the latest development tools outside the .Net world. I'm well aware of the limitations of Access, but for a limited concurrency (usually only 1 user at a time), small business, custom app, has anybody found a comparable end-to-end solution or combination that comes close? It doesn't have to be free, open source, or even Windows based. It just has to allow the same speed of development and maintenance, and maybe even provide some additional amenities like seamless autointegration with a server-based DB Engine (like Access does with its own 'Jet' dbms), better web support, and a file format more compatible with source control. I don't want to miss out on anything. Please share your development experience with your suggestions. Thanks.
