• Skeptic in a Scrum Team

  My company has recently switched to an Agile way of working and as a part of it we've started using SCRUM. While I'm very comfortable with it and feel that this way is superior to a traditional one, some of my teammates don't share the same opinion. In fact they are very skeptical about "all that agile stuff", and don't take it seriously. As an example, one of the teammates is always late on the meetings, and doesn't really care about it. The management IMO tries not to notice this (maybe because it's new, and it takes time for the people to get used to it). My question is, how to address this issue while not raising a conflict inside the team?

• UEC - Unable to SSH into instance, asks for password

  I am attempting to set up a private cloud using Ubuntu 10.04.4 Server. I am following the tutorial at http://cssoss.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/eucabook-v1-1/ . All steps go on perfectly apart from that I am unable to SSH into the running instances. I have created the instance using a public key and try to SSH into instance using the private key. However it asks for password. I am able to ping the instance though. I have tried using both the pre-built images from the store as well as custom built images. Several people seem to have the same problem but there does not seem to be any working solution. Thanks in advance.

• How to implement Scrum in a company with three similar web-based products

  I am somewhat familiar with the concepts and benefits of Scrum. With that in mind, I am trying to improve the failing Scrum product management structure of a company I'm now working for that has three separate B2C products, catering to the same demographic and accessible on the same website. Each product has a product owner and a unique development team (5 - 9 people in each) behind it. Given that the target audiences are similar (not sure if it should matter) and the 3 web products are similar in nature, what are the potential benefits/risks associated with merging the teams and having just one product owner/scrum master/dev team? Some questions that come to mind are: does it make sense to have 3 product owners and three distinct backlogs if your website has three distinct products? Also, if you only have one product owner, what is the best metric off which to choose who that will be?

  Looking for a simple, clean and easy to use personal/career objectives tracker for my team of ~10 developers something like what remember the milk is for tasks. At the moment I track these in a google doc, but ideally like a system where I can browse the teams objectives, add a team objective and it automatically appear on members personal objectives. Also where team members can add/manage their own objectives, browse colleges public/team objectives. Ideally it would also have option for people to add personal out side of work objectives for personal dev projects.   I'm looking for ideas and resources pertaining to software project management, specifically resources that I can direct project managers to in order to broaden their knowledge of the subject. So for example an obvious choice here would be The Mythical Man Month - I do think that this would be an appropriate suggested first read for /some/, but not all. Probably for managers that arrive at the job with more of a management background rather than a technical one TMMM might be a bit 'heavy'. I'm looking for similar texts that convey more or less the same messages, but perhaps in a form more appropriate for people from a wide range of backgrounds. Thanks.

• Why do we use networking libraries instead of plain NSURLRequests and NSURLConnection ?

  in iOS development, I have often seen people creating a networking module to interact with their APIs. This module generally sits on top of a networking framework like MKNetWorkKit or AFNetWorking. In most of the cases, It's all about sending GET,POST request and parsing the response which is in most cases JSON. What extra practical benefits that these libraries provide that an iOS developer should be leveraging which the plain Cocoa Networking APIs lack ? I can understand RESTKit as one exception where it takes care of the conversion of JSON to native objects and also interfaces with Core Data but what about others ?

  Hi all, I used to be a technical lead in a group of 3-5 programmers. Tech lead's responsibilities here would include thinking of/designing overall solution architecture, coding, refactoring, being the first to dive into the next big thing, reviewing others' code, sitting on customer meetings and answering endless questions from the rest of the team. Now I'm moving on to a branch-level position (in a branch of ~60 people), which entails pretty much the same, sans maybe the coding/refactoring part. Still kinda a tech lead, but the title "tech lead" is already being used and means something else - a group-level tech lead. Please help me come up with a good job title. I need something for my e-mail signature and, eventually, resume.

• Is the Lenovo Ideapad Z570 fully compatible with 12.04?

  I'm looking for some notebook that will run on Ubuntu perfectly. I like LENOVO IdeaPad Z570, but I'm not sure how it will perform on Ubuntu. I heard people are complaining about wireless problems. Any problems noted? I heard there is a test suite, how can I install it? Maybe I can boot live CD and try it myself before buying it. • Can't change screen resolution Ubuntu 10.04 (BT)

  I'm using Backtrack 5 R2 , what is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It is installed on Samsung Laptop , and default screen resolution in Windows for it is 1366x768 , but BT/Ubuntu Screen Resolution GUI tool (System=Preferences=Monitors) shows that only resolution available is 1024x768 , and called my monitor as "Unknown". Found a solution , that I have to change resolution in /usr/share/xresprobe/xorg.conf , but I did it , logged out/in and restarted many times , but it took me nowhere. Tried with xrandr , but it shows only mentioned 1024x768 as only solution , and when I tried to input needed resolution , but it did not accept it , because it is not available. As much as I googled , there are a lot of people that had similar problems with BT , but most of them solved with VirtualBox additional tools , but it can't help me , because I've installed it as second OS. In one forum read , that same problems is in Ubuntu 12 , so I ask this question here.

• Disadvantages of a fake phpMyAdmin honeypot that causes ip blacklisting and robots.txt disallow/exclusion of the honeypot?

  I'm trying to figure out whether I should set up a honeypot system with a fake phpMyAdmin (site gets hits all the time with people spidering for insecurities with that app). My thought was to create a honeypot php script that would mimic a phpMyAdmin login, and then blacklist ips that hit that url (and aren't already whitelisted). I would then add the appropriate urls to the robots.txt so that spiders that actually respect my robots.txt wouldn't be caught by the blacklist. Are there disadvantages to this approach, do legit robots sometimes not respect robots.txt in certain circumstances, are there any problems with this that I should consider in advance?

• How do you explain commented-out code to a non-programmer? [closed]

  What is the quickest and most comprehensible way to explain to a non-programmer what commented-out code is? When I mentioned it in a conversation to non-programmers, they seemed lost. Such people could for instance be graphical designers, when working on the same team to make an application. Typically I would need to mention what I will be/currently am working with during an update meeting. At first I thought about substituting commented-out with unused code. While it is true to some degree, it is also very ambiguous. If you are wondering, I am working with legacy code with commented-out code. This leads to my question: "how do you explain commented-out code to a non-programmer?"

• Missing feature in Hyper-V from Virtual PC

  One thing I really miss is the ability to create shared folder between host and guest.  Virtual PC does this well, you can create Shared Folder to be used every time, or just this one.  I have read some posts on how to do this.  Some people suggest using ISO Creator to package up the files and mount the image to DVD drive, but what I need is truly a "shared" environment, so I'm currently looking into creating Virtual switch and creating an internal network between the host and guest.  Let's see how that works out. I would have loved to give Virtual SAN Manager a try, but I don't have a local Fibre Channel to set one up. • can't update 12.04 getting package header error

  I originally posted this question, and was redirected to another thread where the question had already been asked. I then posted to that thread and had my post deleted by moderator fossfreedom, and told to post a "new" question... so wth ever.... I don't care if it's old or new I just need help here people! In a nutshell, I can't use sudo apt-get update or the GUI update tool to update my system. Anytime I try using either tool it gives me an error about packages missing headers. I can't send error reports, I have tried all the listed solutions from this post: I can't update my system properly, "no package header" error and from this post: "Problem with MergeList" error when trying to do an update and neither one work. I just want a working solution since I don't have the means of re-installing the OS entirely, and I REALLY don't want to have to go back to using Windows.

• Failed Update & Mouse Issues

  I`m using my gfs computer - but I do have Ubuntu 11.10 up and running well to some degree. Still need to work out some bugs but not quite sure how to do that. My mouse is only somewhat responsive - cursor moves, and able to click on things but still unable to do a double click function. Left mouse button still not working at all. Tried running updates but it keeps coming up synaptic error. Not sure what that means. I have read that some people have done reinstalls of Ubuntu and it corrected the problems - not sure if that could work. Comments would be appreciated. Installed Ubuntu 11.10 but thinking of trying to wipe the system to do a fresh install can someone tell me how I get back to the Ubuntu installation menu. Wondering if gnome may need to be reset but not sure.

• How to delete all your old website data from the internet?

  I had my website on rohbits.com but for some reasons I had to delete it and recreate it with this URL wwww.rohbits.com/blog. My problem is that the old links are still visible on google search and when people click on those links, they land on a 404 Error page of the hosting company. I want to either delete all the previous data from the search engines or have an 404 Error page of my own so that I can tell my visitors where the actual website is. I have already redirected all the traffic which comes to rohbits.com to www.rohbits.com/blog but when they click on the expired links, they get this error page. One sample expired link is this one: http://rohbits.com/wordpress-tricks.
