  • Efficient way to store tuples in the datastore

    If I have a pair of floats, is it any more efficient (computationally or storage-wise) to store them as a GeoPtProperty than it would be pickle the tuple and store it as a BlobProperty? If GeoPt is doing something more clever to keep multiple values in a single property, can it be leveraged for arbitrary data? Can I store the tuple ("Johnny", 5) in a single entity property in a similarly efficient manner?

  • What's the next steps for moving from appengine to full django?

    Hey guys, I'm super new to programming and I've been using appengine to help me learn python and general coding. I'm getting better quickly and I'm loving it all the way :) Appengine was awesome for allowing me to just dive into writing my app and getting something live that works (see http://www.7bks.com/). But I'm realising that the longer I continue to learn on appengine the more I'm constraining myself and locking myself into a single system. I'd like to move to developing on full django (since django looks super cool!). What are my next steps? To give you a feel for my level of knowledge: I'm not a unix user I'm not familiar with command line controls (I still use appengine/python completely via the appengine SDK) I've never programmed in anything other than python, anywhere other than appengine I know the word SQL, but don't know what MySQL is really or how to use it. So, specifically: What are the skills I need to learn to get up and running with full django/python? If I'm going to host somewhere else I suppose I'll need to learn some sysadmin type skills (maybe even unix?). Is there anywhere that offers easy hosting (like appengine) but that supports django? I hear such great things about heroku I'm considering switching to RoR and going there I appreciate that I'm likely not quite ready to move away from appengine just yet but I'm a fiercely passionate learner (http://www.7bks.com/blog/179001) and would love it if I knew all the steps I needed to learn so I could set about learning them. At the moment, I don't even know what the steps are I need to learn! Thank you very much. Sorry this isn't a specific programming question but I've looked around and haven't found a good how-to for someone of my level of experience and I think others would appreciate a good roadmap for the things we need to learn to get up and running.   • Appengine JDO dataclasses to python model

    Does anyone have tried to implement an app in GAE having both java and python? I have an existing app and my front end is in java. Now I want to use the existing datastore to be interfaced by python. My problem is i don't know how to define the relationships and model that would be equivalent to the one in java. I have tried the one-to-many relationship in python but when stored in the datastore, the fields are different than the one-to-many of java.     {exp:weblog:entries [args]} [content] {embed="path/to/sub-template" [args]} {/exp:weblog:entries} The sub-template only renders for the first entry, and the {embed} template tag is swallowed for all subsequent entries. Is there a way to make it render the sub-template for each iteration? Edit: stranger yet, if caching is enabled for the sub-template, it renders for each iteration—but, of course, the arguments on the embed tag aren't passed to subsequent iterations, as the sub-template is cached.

  • Current tasks count at Appengine Task Queue

    Are there any ways to get count of current unfinished tasks at Google Appengine development server? I need it for making my integration test. I found a way to get this when running it local (just in mem), as described at appengine docs. But when i'm running it as a standalone server, from maven, this doesn't work. Just because library appengine-testing conflicts with Appengine SDK classes, and i can't use those classes together, when running sdk dev server.

  • HTML_Template_IT and wordpress

    I want to use PEAR's HTML_Template_IT in one of my Wordpress page templates so I can separate the HTML from the PHP. I got it working, except I am not sure about one thing. Wordpress's built-in function get_header() actually echo's HTML - so I can't technically set it as a template variable. Is this considered acceptable or is there another way to put the contents of get_header() in a variable? Thanks!

    I get an "unrecognized HTTP method" when trying to do a REPORT request using httplib and gae. Is there a workaround available? An httplib patch for gae? Do you I have to find another host in order to do this natively?     I added this line to my .bashrc (Ubuntu 9.10): export PYTHONPATH=/opt/google_appengine/ And then I ran the dev_appserver through python2.5 on Ubuntu like this: $ python2.5 dev_appserver.py guestbook/ python2.5: can't open file 'dev_appserver.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory As you can see, it can't find dev_appserver.py even though it's in my /opt/google_appengine/ directory. Just to make sure it's not a permissions issue I did this: sudo chmod a+rwx dev_appserver.py To check whether it's been added to the system path for python2.5 I did this: $ python2.5 Python 2.5.5 (r255:77872, Apr 29 2010, 23:59:20) [GCC 4.4.1] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import sys >>> for line in sys.path: print line ... /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c9-py2.5.egg /opt/google_appengine/demos /opt/google_appengine /usr/local/lib/python25.zip ...   • Google AppEngine + Local JUnit Tests + Jersey framework + Embedded Jetty

    I use Google Appengine for Java (GAE/J). On top, I use the Jersey REST-framework. Now i want to run local JUnit tests. The test sets up the local GAE development environment ( http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/localunittesting.html ), launches an embedded Jetty server, and then fires requests to the server via HTTP and checks responses. Unfortunately, the Jersey/Jetty combo spawns new threads. GAE expects only one thread to run. In the end, I end up having either no datstore inside the Jersey-resources or multiple, having different datastore. As a workaround I initialise the GAE local env only once, put it in a static variable and inside the GAE resource I add many checks (This threads has no dev env? Re-use the static one). And these checks should of course only run inside JUnit tests.. (which I asked before: "How can I find out if code is running inside a JUnit test or not?" - I'm not allowed to post the link directly here :-|)

    Hi All I have tried using several different parsers as advised by somebody but i don't believe that they'd be of any use for this particular situation. I have a file that looks like this: mylanguagename(main) { OnLoad(protected) { Display(img, text, link); } Canvas(public) { Image img: "Images\my_image.png"; img.Name: "img"; img.Border: "None"; img.BackgroundColor: "Transparent"; img.Position: 10, 10; Text text: "This is a multiline str#ning. The #n creates a new line."; text.Name: text; text.Position: 10, 25; Link link: "Click here to enlarge img."; link.Name: "link"; link.Position: 10, 60; link.Event: link.Clicked; } link.Clicked(sender, link, protected) { Link link: from sender; Message.Display: "You clicked link."; } } ... and I need to be able to parse that code above, so and convert it to a Javascript equivelent, (or JScript). Can somebody please help, or get me started in the right direction? Thanks
