  • Use CSS (and maybe JavaScript) to make an element be square (or maintain a specific aspect ratio)

    - by David Pfeffer
I have a div that I want to have the following characteristics: Width = 50% of its parent element Height equal to whatever it needs to be in order to maintain a certain aspect ratio. I need to use percentages because the object will resize left-right when the browser is resized. I want the object to be resized top-bottom to ensure the object maintains the same aspect ratio. I don't think there's any way to use pure CSS to do this, but does anyone know of a way? Alternatively, is there an easy JavaScript way to do this? (JQuery is fine.)

  • Binding to an XElement

    - by twreid
I need help binding to an XElement. Basically I am making a editor for certain elements in a web.config and I extract them as XElements and my View binds to a Collection of DataItems which has a property that contains my XElement. When I do Text="{Binding Path=Data, Mode=OneWay, NotifyOnSourceUpdated=True}"/> I get all the text of the Element, but If I try Text="{Binding Path=Data.Elements[], Mode=OneWay, NotifyOnSourceUpdated=True}"/> It doesn't work the TextBox is empty. I am trying to find a way to Template different sections dynamically to make them easier to edit instead of editing raw XMl.

  • Floats not clearing properly in IE - how to fix?

    - by Stomped
I've been banging my head for about an hour now, and I've distilled the problem down to the simplest example I can think of that shows the problem. The CSS/HTML <style> #T div { float: left; } ._b { clear: left; } </style> <div id='T'> <div class='_a'>*</div> <div class='_b'>*</div> <div class='_c'>*</div> <div class='_d'>*</div> </div> IE7 *** * FF, Chrome, Opera * *** The result in FF/Chrome/Opera is what I'd expect. There's no adding more mark-up to fix this and I'm absolutely befuddled on to how to make it work properly in IE. It gets really ugly when you have say, 3 all on a row to themselves and then 3 meant to be on the same line -- the extra 2 end up on the first row. I really hope someone knows the work-around for this.

  • Canvas background for retrieving color

    - by urema
Hi, I have a canvas with a background set to be lineargradientbrush....how do I then extract the color from this background at a particular mouse point (x,y)? I can do this with a BitmappedImage fine...as this deals with pixels, not sure about a canvas though... Thanks greatly in advance, U.

  • Use AttachedProperty in Style in ControlTemplate

    - by Andrey
    Here is my simple app: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:app="clr-namespace:WpfApplication1" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.Resources> <Style x:Key="Test"> <Setter Property="Button.Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="3" Background="Black" CornerRadius="{Binding app:Extras.CornerRadius}" > </Border> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <Button Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="29,26,0,0" Name="button1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="75" app:Extras.CornerRadius="10" Style="{StaticResource Test}" >Button</Button> </Grid> </Window> Here is my AttachedPropery: namespace WpfApplication1 { public class Extras { public static readonly DependencyProperty CornerRadiusProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached( "CornerRadius", typeof(double), typeof(Button), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(1.0d, FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsRender) ); public static void SetCornerRadius(UIElement element, double value) { element.SetValue(CornerRadiusProperty, value); } public static double GetCornerRadius(UIElement element) { return (double)element.GetValue(CornerRadiusProperty); } } } CornerRadius="{Binding app:Extras.CornerRadius}" this of course doesn't work. so how can I get value from here app:Extras.CornerRadius="10" thanks in advance!

  • Background image JFrame with content

    - by Petr Safar
I have a JFrame with BorderLayout, there are panels on all sides (North, East ,...). In the panels there are labels and buttons mostly. Now I want the frame to have a background image, some research told me that i had to change the content pane of my frame. When I try this however, the content gets put in the background and isn't visible. Also, I don't know how to resize the image if the frame is resized. Is there an easy fix for this or will I have to rework most of my code?

  • DataTemplate / ContentTemplate - exchange controls

    - by Scott Olson
How can i solve the following (simplified) problem? M-V-VM context. I want to show text at the UI. In case the user has the rights to change the text, i want to use a textbox to manipulate the text. In case the user has no rights, i want to use a label to only show the text. My main problem: how to exchange textbox and label and bind Text resp. Content to the same property in viewmodel. Thanks for your answers Toni

  • auto resize text (font size) when resizing window?

    - by Stephen
Hi, I have been trying(in vain) to build a page whose elements would resize as I changed the window size. I have it working in css for images no problem, but I can't seem to accomplish the same for text, and I am not sure it is even possible in CSS. And I can't seem to find a jquery script that accomplishes this. When a user resizes the window, I essentially want the page to scale dynamically and fluidly, without the user having to invoke page zoom. This works fine on my img divs via css, but not for the text, which stays the same size. any ideas? Thanks!

  • Where should I set the DataContext - code behind or xaml?

    - by dovholuk
(honestly I searched and read all the 'related questions' that seemed relevant - i do hope i didn't "miss" this question from elsewhere but here goes...) There are two different ways (at least) to set the DataContext. One can use XAML or one can use the code behind. What is the 'best practice' and why? I tend to favor setting it in XAML because it allows a designer to define collections on their own but I need 'ammunition' on why it's a best practice or why I'm crazy and the code behind is the bomb...

  • CSS Unwanted padding in IE using floats.

    - by user564176
It's been a long day of designing and I ran into a problem today. The website www.dcninc.com/newtest/security_testing.php is a new design I'm working on at work right now. If you view it in Firefox you will notice there is no padding on the 2 right boxes (I did that on purpose to trouble shoot my problem) However if you view that same page in IE, it adds padding to the right side. Here is my CSS and HTML below. http://pastebin.com/hRxZp9ub http://pastebin.com/YwSYn7ti

  • finditem() doesn't find menu, stuck with NullPointerException

    - by fdansv
I'm stuck while changing some properties on my options menu at onCreateOptionsMenu(). It seems like findItem() returns null, even though I'm pretty sure that the reference to the menu item is correct. My code looks as follows: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.activity_profile, menu); MenuItem leftie = menu.findItem(R.id.menu_profile); leftie.setIcon(R.drawable.ic_menu_mapmode); leftie.setTitle(R.string.back_map); leftie.setIntent(authIntent); return true; } I really don't know what can be wrong there. Thanks in advance :) EDIT: I forgot to include the actual problem.

  • How to set ItemsSource?

    - by Mark
This dialog makes no sense to me And I'm having trouble finding good tutorials on it. Most of the examples aren't detailed enough, or do stuff via code, but I'd like to take advantage of the IDE as much as possible. Whats the difference between ItemsSource and DataContext? I'd like to bind it to just a List for starters. I don't need SQL or databases or anything fancy. Where would I declare my list? In MainWindow.xaml.cs? How do I get it to appear in that dialog?

  • How to determine whether or not a video format is supported

    - by Tal Even-Tov
Hi, I've had to write an application that lists and plays tutorial videos along with accompanying text. It works well but since the videos are added by the user I need a way of checking to see whether or not a video can be played on the machine. I'm not sure whether or not there is an easy way to try test the file (and catch errors) or if I need to start looking at codecs installed. Does anybody have any experience with this?

  • Disable Adding Item to Collection

    - by Wonko the Sane
Hi All, I'm sure there's an "easy" answer to this, but for the moment it escapes me. In an MVVM application, I have a property that is a ObservableCollection, used for displaying some set of elements on the view. private readonly ObservableCollection<MyType> mMyCollection = new ObservableCollection<MyType>(); public ObservableCollection<MyType> MyCollection { get { return mMyCollection; } } I want to restrict consumers of this collection from simply using the property to add to the collection (i.e. I want to prevent this from the view): viewModel.MyCollection.Add(newThing); // want to prevent this! Instead, I want to force the use of a method to add items, because there may be another thread using that collection, and I don't want to modify the collection while that thread is processing it. public void AddToMyCollection(MyType newItem) { // Do some thread/task stuff here } Thanks, wTs

  • Validation errors prevent the property setter being called

    - by HA
Hi, I am looking for a simple solution to the following problem: I am using a simple TextBox control with the Text property bound to a property in the code behind. Additionally I am using a validation rule to notify the user of malformed input. ... error display style here ... Now after entering valid data into the TextBox the user can hit a button to send the data. When clicking the button the data from the bound property UserName in the code behind is evaluated and sent. The problem is that a user can enter valid data into the TextBox and this will be set in the property UserName. If the user then decides to change the text in the TextBox and the data becomes invalid, the setter of the property UserName is not called after the failed validation. This means that the last valid data remains in the property UserName, while the TextBox display the invalid data with the error indicator. If the user then clicks on the button to send the data, the last valid data will be sent instead of the current TextBox content. I know I could deactivate the button if the data is invalid and in fact I do, but the method is called in the setter of UserName. And if that is not called after a failed validation the button stays enabled. So the question is: How do I enable calling of the property setter after a failed validation?

  • undesirable cropping of Label that has been rotated 90 degrees

    - by 108980470541437452574
Hello, I am creating 2 columns. left column will show caption of the DataGrid which will be in right column. <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="20" /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Label Grid.Column="0" Name="FilterLabel"> <Label.RenderTransform> <TransformGroup> <RotateTransform Angle="-90" /> </TransformGroup> </Label.RenderTransform> </Label> the problem here is that the lable gets rendered horizontally first, and cropped at 20 pixels. So after it has been rotated, only first few letters appear rendered in left column. as soon as i make the left column wider, more letters get rendered.

  • I know I'm doing something wrong with RaiseCanExecuteChanged and CanExecute

    - by Cowman
    Well after fiddling with MVVM light to get my button to enable and disable when I want it to... I sort of mashed things together until it worked. However, I just know I'm doing something wrong here. I have RaiseCanExecuteChanged and CanExecute in the same area being called. Surely this is not how it's done? Here's my xaml <Button Margin="10, 25, 10, 25" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Width="50" Height="50" Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="3" Content="Host"> <i:Interaction.Triggers> <i:EventTrigger EventName="Click"> <mvvmLight:EventToCommand Command="{Binding HostChat}" MustToggleIsEnabled="True" /> </i:EventTrigger> </i:Interaction.Triggers> </Button> And here's my code public override void InitializeViewAndViewModel() { view = UnityContainer.Resolve<LoginPromptView>(); viewModel = UnityContainer.Resolve<LoginPromptViewModel>(); view.DataContext = viewModel; InjectViewIntoRegion(RegionNames.PopUpRegion, view, true); viewModel.HostChat = new DelegateCommand(ExecuteHostChat, CanHostChat); viewModel.PropertyChanged += new System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventHandler(ViewModelPropertyChanged); } void ViewModelPropertyChanged(object sender, System.ComponentModel.PropertyChangedEventArgs e) { if (e.PropertyName == "Name" || e.PropertyName == "Port" || e.PropertyName == "Address") { (viewModel.HostChat as DelegateCommand).RaiseCanExecuteChanged(); (viewModel.HostChat as DelegateCommand).CanExecute(); } } public void ExecuteHostChat() { } public bool CanHostChat() { if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(viewModel.Address) || String.IsNullOrEmpty(viewModel.Port) || String.IsNullOrEmpty(viewModel.Name)) { return false; } else return true; } See how these two are together? Surely that can't be right. I mean... it WORKS for me... but something seems wrong about it. Shouldn't RaiseCanExecuteChanged call CanExecute? It doesn't... and so if I don't have that CanExecute in there, my control never toggles its IsEnabled like I need it to. (viewModel.HostChat as DelegateCommand).RaiseCanExecuteChanged(); (viewModel.HostChat as DelegateCommand).CanExecute();

  • Displaying Data on the Windows Form

    - by The.Anti.9
I'm searching files and returning lines that include the search text, and I'm not really sure the best way to display the information I get. Every time I get a match, I want to show, in some sort of control, the File it came from, and the whole text line. (aka streamreader.ReadLine() result). First I tried just putting it all in a read-only text box, but it doesn't have a scroll bar. What is the best form control to help me display this data neatly?
