• oracle display for every stored procedure the execution time

  Hi all. I'm working on a stored procedure. Inside this one, there are many call to the other stored procedures. There are a bunch of them. I was wondering if there is a option to be able to have the execution time of every stored procedure involved, every function (with a start and end time, ior something like that). The idea is that I need to optimise it and I should touch every part, and since I not sure where is the longest execution time, is a bit difficult. And after a modification I would like the see the hole process if it's shorter or not. If I call the procedure from unix, using sql plus, I have no log. If I call it from TOAD, it's blocked until the end. Any idea? I'm not a dba, so I don't have many rights on the database, I'm just a regular user. Thanks for any advice. C.C.

• Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

  The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?

  If I have a string, for example which reads: 'Hello how are you today Joe' How am I able to insert spaces into it at regular intervals? So for example I want to insert spaces into it using the range function in these steps: range(0,27,2). So it will look like this: 'He lo ho w ar e yo u to da y Jo e' It now has a space at every 2nd index going up to it's end. How do I do this does anyone know? thanks.

  What is the best way to index a datetime in MySQL? Which method is faster: Store the datetime as a double (via unix timestamp) Store the datetime as a datetime The application generating the timestamp data can output either format. Unfortunately, datetime will be a key for this particular data structure so speed will matter. Also, is it possible to make an index on an expression? For example, index on UNIX_TIMESTAMP(mydate) where mydate is a field in a table and UNIX_TIMESTAMP is a mysql function. I know that Postgres can do it. I'm thinking there must be a way in mysql as well.

• A null value should be considered as 0 when addition of it is done with decimal value.

  There are three column in the datatable A,B and C. Now each column is type of decimal. Now I am doing like dt.Columns["A"].Expression="B+C"; to make addition of Column B's record and column C's record. Now if there is any value of B or C is null then addition of B and C will be null like B's value is 3 and C's value is null for first row then B+C(3+null) will be null which is not appropriate, the result of addition should be 3.If I replace 0 instead of null then it will be ok.But whereever there is null value in the records it should be remain it is and it should not be replaced by 0.That is null value should not be replaced by 0 and when addition of null value is done with any decimal value null value should be considered as 0. Is it possible,how can we do this ?

  I want to parse a c# file. The only thing I want is to determine if it contains a property with a specific name; just a simple true/false response. Or rather, since I'd checking for more than one property in each run, extracting a list of property names could be helpful I thought that I could create an elegant solution using the CodeDomProvider functionality (f# example): use reader = new StreamReader(existingFile) let codeProvider = new CSharpCodeProvider() let codeUnit = codeProvider.Parse(reader) Unfortunately, the Parse function is not implemented for the CSharpCodeProvider. Is there a way to get a CodeCompileUnit from a source file? Or is there another elegant way? (I had hoped to avoid regular expressions on this)?

It's to be used as a client-side validation and I don't want to prevent users from entering whatever they want. Best to give examples of what should/should not pass validation: So to be specific, the expression I'm looking for is to test to make sure string contains anywhere from 3 to 10 alphanumeric characters. • Trouble compiling some decompiled C# code

  I was decompiling an open-source project (because the source for the latest version hasn't been released yet). Using RedGate's Reflector tool, it gave me this block of code: if(somecondition == true) { ref Vector3i vectoriRef; float num17 = length - num; Vector3i end = vectori3; (vectoriRef = (Vector3i) &end)[1] = vectoriRef[1] - ((int) num17); } somecondition is a boolean. length and num are floats defined outside the code. vectori3 is also defined outside the code and is of type Vector3i. The type Vector3i is essentially this code, but with x, y, and z stored as integers. When I try to compile this decompiled code, I get the following errors: Line 2: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement Line 3: ; expected Line 3: Invalid expression term 'ref' Line 6: 'Vector3i' is a 'type' but is used like a 'variable' Any thoughts on how I can fix this code so it compiles correctly and does whatever it was intended to do?

ToDictionary(k => k, v => null); But I am getting the error "Cannot convert lambda expression to type System.Collections.Generic.IEqualityComparer' because it is not a delegate type" Any ideas how could I fix it? (I know I could iterate through and fill the dict one element at a time, but I simply want to use something more elegant)

  I'm fairly sure this is possible, but what I want to do is have a generic method where I can pass in an object along with a Expression that will tell the method which Property to use in it's logic. Can anyone get me started on the syntax for something like this? Essentially what I would like to code is something like: Dim firstNameMapper as IColumnMapper = new ColumnMapper(of Author)(Function(x) x.FirstName) Dim someAuthorObject as new Author() fistNameMapper.Map("Richard", someAuthorObject) Now the mapper object would know to set the FirstName property to "Richard".   Transparent persistence allows you to use regular objects instead of a database. The objects are automatically read from and written to disk. Examples of such systems are Gemstone and Rucksack (for common lisp). Simplified version of what they do: if you access foo.bar and bar is not in memory, it gets loaded from disk. If you do foo.bar = baz then the foo object gets updated on disk. Most systems also have some form of transactions, and they may have support for sharing objects across programs and even across a network. But how do I calculate the centroid of a weightless polygon (made from aerogel perhaps :), where each vertex has a weight? Simplified illustration of what I mean using straight line: 5kg-----------------5kg ^center of gravity 10kg---------------5kg ^center of gravity offset du to weight of vertices Of course, I know how to calculate the center of gravity on a straight line with weighted vertices, but how do I do it on a polygon with weighted vertices?   I've got some models set up like this: class AppGroup(models.Model): users = models.ManyToManyField(User) class Notification(models.Model): groups_to_notify = models.ManyToManyField(AppGroup) The User objects come from django's authentication system. Now, I am trying to get all the notifications pertaining to the groups that the current user is a part of. I have tried.. notifications = Notification.objects.filter(groups_to_notify=AppGroup.objects.filter(users=request.user)) But that gives an error: more than one row returned by a subquery used as an expression Which I suppose is because the groups_to_notify is checking against several groups. How can I grab all the notifications meant for the user based on the groups he is a part of?

For example, # ./find.sh -i "some quoted string" grep: quoted: No such file or directory grep: string: No such file or directory Note that if $@ doesn't contain the path, the first script does do what I want.

  How should I manage memory in my mission critical embedded application? I found some articles with google, but couldn't pinpoint a really useful practical guide. The DO-178b forbids dynamic memory allocations, but how will you manage the memory than? preallocate everything in advance and send a pointer to each function that needs allocation? Allocate it on the stack? Use a global static allocator (but then it's very similar to dynamic allocation)? Answers can be of the form of regular answer, reference to a resource, or reference to good opensource embedded system for example. clarification: The issue here is not whether or not memory management is availible for the embedded system. But what is a good design for an embedded system, to maximize reliability.

  I am trying to port my usage meter from a JavaScript Gadget (win) / Widget (OSX) to Android. Total newbie when comes to JAVA + Eclipse + Android 2.1 SDK.   I have this data structure: request ======= building_id lot_code building ======== building_id lot_id lot === lot_id lot_code The request table is missing the value for the building_id column and I want to fill it in from the other tables. So I've tried this: UPDATE request SET building_id = ( SELECT bu.building_id FROM building bu INNER JOIN lot lo ON bu.lot_id=lo.lot_id WHERE lo.lot_code = request.lot_code ); But I'm getting this error: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , , = or when the subquery is used as an expression. Is it due to wrong syntax? The data model allows more than one building per lot but actual data doesn't contain such cases so there should be at most one building_id per lot_code.

• Generating dynamic C# based on textual data into the runtime?

  Is there a quick and easy way to load textual C# into a program. I would like to load the LINQ from the database as an Expression and run it against some data (SQL or Array/List don't mind). I know I can do it using the C# CodeDom/ExpressionTree builder with Assembly Loading and Creating AppDomains, but this seems very long winded. Is there an easier way. I thought with the advent of .net 3.5 that the ExpressionTree would come to my aid, but I now realise that I have to write a parser to use this. Maybe there is a new trick in 4.0? Something along the lines of a dynamic languages Parse would be great. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
