• What’s the strategy to recover data during DAO unit test?

  When I test DAO module in JUnit, an obvious problem is: how to recover testing data in database? For instance, a record should be deleted in both test methods testA() and testB(), that means precondition of both test methods need an existing record to be deleted. Then my strategy is inserting the record in setUp() method to recover data. What’s your better solution? Or your practical idea in such case? Thanks

• Best reverse proxy for IIS 6?

  I want to set up a reverse proxy from one of our intranet IIS sites to point to another tomcat server. Eg, i want the user to browse to 'http://our-iis-server/friendly-url' and for it to reverse proxy to 'http://our-tomcat-server/ugly-url'. What would be the best solution for this? I've narrowed it down to three options: http://www.managedfusion.com/products/url-rewriter/documentation.aspx http://www.isapirewrite.com/ http://www.codeplex.com/IIRF Also, can these tools rewrite the links in the html? Eg, if the tomcat server's html has something like 'a href = http://our-tomcat-server/ugly-url/product/widget' i would need it to change to 'a href = http://our-iis-server/friendly-url/product/widget' Thanks in advance.   How on earth do people debug Django templatetags? I created one, based on a working example, my new tag looks the same to me as the existing one. But I just get a 'my_lib' is not a valid tag library: Could not load template library from django.templatetags.my_lib, No module named my_lib I know that this is probably because of something failing when defining the lib. But how do I see what's going on? What do you use to debug this situation?

  I have been using South on my project for a while, but I recently did a huge amount of development and changed development machine and I think something messed up in the process. The project works fine, but I can't apply migrations. • How to create an Audio CD using C# or Java

  I'm looking for an API that would allow me to create an audio CD from within a C# application. The CDs are to be created and closed in the same session (no rewrite required). Basically, my application locates files on behalf of a user, and, if a blank CD is present in the drive, creates an audio CD for the user. If no CD is present, it checks to see if there's a USB drive attached and copies the files there (this part I already know how to do). I would prefer to write this application in either C# or Java, as I'm most comfortable with those, but I don't know how hard it would be to create CDs using either language. There are several other questions here that deal with regular CDs, but I didn't see any discussing audio CDs.

• IIS URL Rewriting for all Inbound URLs?

  Hopefully a simple question although one I have found impossible to answer myself using the Googles! I have a website on IIS with the URL http://www.contoso.com/ which points to C:\www\public\ There has been a forced directory restructure so now all of the data (Default.aspx, Product.aspx, etc.) that originally resided in C:\www\public\ now resides in C:\www\public\en\ie\ - however, the IIS website document root is still C:\www\public\ So, essentially, I have a lot of inbound links to http://www.contoso.com/Product.aspx?id=1 (etc.) which are now returning 404 errors - the correct link is now http://www.contoso.com/en/ie/Product.aspx?id=1 Please consider that I can make no changes to the directory structure or the IIS document root... so must solve this issue using URL rewriting. Is it possible to capture all requests to contoso.com/* and rewrite them to contoso.com/en/ie/* ??

• What are codepad.org's Perl runner limitations?

It's pretty obvious that there must be some limitations as to what code/features can be tested with codepad - does anyone know what those limitations are for Perl runner?   My team uses SVN for our software platform, and we create tags periodically to help keep module versions straight. Best practice, as I understand it, is not to modify a tag once it has been created. However, it seems that sometimes the temptation is too great and a modification is made to one of the tags. Is there a way to prevent these kinds of checkins, or at least make them a complete pain so that we can discourage them automatically? Thanks, Joe

So, it would be nice if anyone could name a way how to put an attribute inside of the metaclass which is able to be read when new is executed. • Is it a bad idea if equals(null) throws NullPointerException instead?

  The contract of equals with regards to null, is as follows: For any non-null reference value x, x.equals(null) should return false. This is rather peculiar, because if o1 != null and o2 == null, then we have: o1.equals(o2) // returns false o2.equals(o1) // throws NullPointerException The fact that o2.equals(o1) throws NullPointerException is a good thing, because it alerts us of programmer error. And yet, that error would not be catched if for various reasons we just switched it around to o1.equals(o2), which would just "silently fail" instead. So the questions are: Why is it a good idea that o1.equals(o2) should return false instead of throwing NullPointerException? Would it be a bad idea if wherever possible we rewrite the contract so that anyObject.equals(null) always throw NullPointerException instead?

• gcc precompiled headers weird behaviour with -c option

  Folks, I'm using gcc-4.4.1 on Linux and before trying precompiled headers in a really large project I decided to test them on simple program. They "kinda work" but I'm not happy with results and I'm sure there is something wrong about my setup. First of all, I wrote a simple program(main.cpp) to test if they work at all: #include <boost/bind.hpp> #include <boost/function.hpp> #include <boost/type_traits.hpp> int main() { return 0; } Then I created the precompiled headers file pre.h(in the same directory) as follows: #include <boost/bind.hpp> #include <boost/function.hpp> #include <boost/type_traits.hpp> ...and compiled it: $ g++ -I. pre.h (pre.h.gch was created) After that I measured compile time with and without precompiled headers: with pch $ time g++ -I. -include pre.h main.cpp real 0m0.128s user 0m0.088s sys 0m0.048s without pch $ time g++ -I. main.cpp real 0m0.838s user 0m0.784s sys 0m0.056s So far so good! Almost 7 times faster, that's impressive! Now let's try something more realistic. All my sources are built with -c option and for some reason I can't make pch play nicely with it. You can reproduce this with the following steps below... I created the test module foo.cpp as follows: #include <boost/bind.hpp> #include <boost/function.hpp> #include <boost/type_traits.hpp> int whatever() { return 0; } Here are the timings of my attempts to build the module foo.cpp with and without pch: with pch $ time g++ -I. -include pre.h -c foo.cpp real 0m0.357s user 0m0.348s sys 0m0.012s without pch $ time g++ -I. -c foo.cpp real 0m0.330s user 0m0.292s sys 0m0.044s That's quite strange, looks like there is no speed up at all!(I ran timings for several times). It turned out precompiled headers were not used at all in this case, I checked it with -H option(output of "g++ -I. -include pre.h -c foo.cpp -H" didn't list pre.h.gch at all). What am I doing wrong?

• Speed Difference between native OLE DB and ADO.NET

  I'm looking for suggestions as well as any benchmarks or observations people have. We are looking to rewrite our data access layer and are trying to decide between native C++ OLEDB or ADO.NET for connecting with databases. Currently we are specifically targeting Oracle which would mean we would use the Oracle OLE DB provider and the ODP.NET. Requirements: 1. All applications will be in managed code so using native C++ OLEDB would require C++/CLI to work (no PInvoke way to slow). 2. Application must work with multiple databases in the future, currently just targeting Oracle specifically. Question: 1. Would it be more performant to use ADO.NET to accomplish this or use native C++ OLE DB wrapped in a Managed C++ interface for managed code to access? Any ideas, or help or places to look on the web would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi im trying to detect a marker in a webcam video feed and overlay it with a 3d object - pretty much exactly like this: http://www.morethantechnical.com/2009/06/28/augmented-reality-with-nyartoolkit-opencv-opengl/ i know artoolkit is the best module for this, but i was hoping to just use opencv in python since i dont know nearly enough c/c++ to be able to use artoolkit. im hoping someone will be able to get me on the right track towards detecting the marker and determining its location and orientation etc since i have no idea how best to go about this or what functions i should be using thanks mitch
