• Open the SQL Server Error Log with PowerShell

  Using the Server Management Objects (SMO) library, you don’t even need to have the SQL Server 2008 PowerShell Provider to read the SQL Server Error Logs – in fact, you can use regular old everyday PowerShell. Keep in mind you will need the SMO libraries – which can be installed separately or by installing the Client Tools from the SQL Server install media. You could search for errors, store a result as a variable, or act on the returned values in some other way. • dpkg stuck downloading font files

  I have been reinstalling Ubuntu 12.04. The install from USB works fine, and I could update everything OK, but when I got to re-installing my application software I hit a snag. One of the packages I tried to re-install was ttf-mscorefonts-installer. dpkg stalled during this setup, downloading a font file (it had tried to download it all night). I stopped dpkg, and attempted to re-start downloading something else, but it would not let me. The commands I typed are as follows: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock This unlocks dpkg, but if I try to do something I get the following message (eg): bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo apt-get install synaptic E: dpgk was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem So, I did just that: bob@bobStudio:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a whereupon it started the previously failed download all over again. Is this download really broken, or is it 'just' a bad Internet connection?

• Dell XPS 15 (L502x) sound problem

  I have a problem with my sound on my Dell XPS 15. First, when I had Windows 7, my sound was pretty good (I have a JBL 2.1 speaker system with Waves Maxx audio), but since I installed Ubuntu 12.04 it sounded very cheap and as if I put my laptop in a tin can. • Ubuntu 11.10 - can't adjust brightness on my laptop

  Using every method possible I'm unable to change my laptop brightness.. It's stuck on super max brightness.. Using the slider in the "screens" window int he control panel doesnt do anything, and using the fn keys doesn't do anything... Some info about my system: laptop is a MSI VR420 Running ubuntu 11.10 video card is an integrated intel card Used to work when I ran ubuntu 10.10 and earlier versions (not sure if it worked out of the box or if I inadvertly fixed it in previous versions while installing lots of other packages) Brightness slider on the "screen" window doesn't do anything, "dim when on battery -power" doesnt do anything When I use the fn+f4/f5 keys to adjust brightness there is a popup showing that its receving the input, but i can only go from between 0 brightness and max brightness.. (that is what the output is showing, the brightness does not change though) when attempting to change the brightness with fn+f4/f5 my dmesg log reports "ACPI: Failed to switch the brightness" Here are some outputs from some terminal commands, not sure if any of this is useful or not.. lspci - http://pastebin.com/EimZSGs3 "ls /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness" will output "/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" "cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness" = 0 (when I use the fn+f4/f5) this will change betwene 0 and, but the actual brightness doesn't change) "cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness" = 1 "lsmod | grep ^i915" = i915 505108 3 here is the list of things I've tried through searching google..... Edit /etc/default/grub?GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT: acpi_osi=Linux, acpi_backlight=vendor, nomodeset. (as well as several different combinations of these settings being on or off) Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf (file doesn't exist on my system) Edit /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness (file doesn't exist) sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=XX (does nothing) xbacklight -set XX (does nothing) I've tried about everything with no luck... The only thing i haven't tried is adding the ppa that someone suggested here: Unable to change brightness in a Lenovo laptop .... However according to the notes on the ppa.. all of the changes that are in the ppa are now actually apart of 11.10 and the ppa is only for people with 11.04.. Does anyone have any ideas for me? edit:by setting acpi=off in my /etc/default/grub file I was about to get my fn+f4/f5 keys to work, also "dim when display to save power" now makes my laptop dim when on battery power.. the dimness slider however still doesn't do anything.. also xbacklight doesn't do anything stil or any of the other methods... The thing i don't get is why setting acpi=off makes my fn+f4/f5 keys work? Isn't acpi supposed to be enables the backlight to be dimmed? does anyone know what ubuntu is deciding to do behind the scenes when acpi=off? Does anyone know what/if any features I might be losing with it off?

• Working with Visual Studio Web Development Server and IE6 in XP Mode on Windows 7

  (Brian Reiter from  thoughtful computing has described this setup in this StackOverflow thread. The credit for the idea is entirely his, I have just extended it with some step by step descriptions and added some links and screenhots.)   If you are forced  to still support Internet Explorer 6, you can setup following combination on your machine to make the development for it less painful. A common problem if you are developing on Windows 7 is that you can’t install IE6 on your machine. (Not that you want that anyway). So you will probably end up working locally with IE8 and FF, and test your IE6 compatibility on a separate machine. This can get quite annoying, because you will have to maintain two different development environments, not have all the tools available, etc.   You can help yourself by installing IE6 in a Windows 7 XP Mode, which is basically just an Windows XP running in a virtual machine.   [1] Windows XP Mode installation   After you have installed and configured your XP mode (remember the security settings like Windows Update and antivirus software), you can add the shortcut to the IE6 in the virtual machine to the “all users” start menu. This shortcut will be replicated to your windows 7 XP mode start menu, and you will be able to seamlessly start your IE 6 as a normal window on your Windows 7 desktop.   [2] Configure IE6 for the Windows 7 installation   If you configure your XP – Mode to use (Shared Networking)  NAT, you can now use IE6 to browse the sites in the internet. (add proxy settings to IE6 if necessary)                       The problem now is that you can’t connect to the webdev server which is running on your local machine. This is because web development server is crippled to allow only local connections for security reasons.   In order to trick webdev in believing that the requests are coming from local machine itself you can use a light weight proxy like privoxy on your host (windows 7) machine and configure the IE6 running in the virtual host.   The first step is to make the host machine (running windows 7) reachable from the virtual machine (running XP). In order to do that, you can install the loopback adapter, and configure it to use an IP which is routable from the virtual machine. In example screenshot (192.168.1.66).   [3] How to install loopback adapter in Windows 7   After installation you can assign a static IP which is routable from the virtual machine (in example 192.168.1.66)                     The next step is to configure privoxy to listen on that IP address (using some not used port, in example, the default port 8118)   Change following line in config.txt:   # #      Suppose you are running Privoxy on an IPv6-capable machine and #      you want it to listen on the IPv6 address of the loopback device: # #        listen-address [::1]:8118 # # listen-address  192.168.1.66:8118   The last step is to configure the IE6 to use Privoxy which is running on your Windows 7 host machine as proxy for all addresses (including localhost)                             And now you can use your Windows7 XP Mode IE6 to connect to your Visual Studio’s webdev web server.                         [4] http://stackoverflow.com/questions/683151/connect-remotely-to-webdev-webserver-exe

• Site Search Engine for 1,000 page website

  I manage a website with about 1,000 articles that need to be searchable by my members. The site search engines I've tried all had their own problems: Fluid Dynamics Search Engine Since it's written in perl, it was a bit hacky to integrate with my PHP-based CMS. I basically had to file_get_contents the search results page. However, FDSE had the best search results. Google CSE Ugh, the search results SUCK. It can't find documents even using unique strings. I'm so surprised that a Google search product is this bad. Nor can I get any answers on their 'help' forums, and I am a paying user. Boo, Google. Boo. Sphider Again, bad search results. Unable to locate some phrases used in link text. Better results than Google CSE though. Shame on Google that a free PHP script has better search results than their paid application. IndexTank This one looked really promising. I got all set up with their PHP API client. But it would only randomly add articles that I submitted. Out of 700+ articles I pushed to the index through their API, only 8 made it in. Unable to find any help on this subject. Update for IndexTank -- Got the above issue fixed, so this looks most promising so far. The site itself runs on php/mysql and FreeBSD, though this shouldn't matter for a web crawling indexer. I've looked at Lucene, but I don't know anything about Java or installing Java programs on my web server. I also do not have root access on my web server, if this would be required for installation. I really don't need a lot of fancy features. It just needs to be able to crawl my web site and return great (even decent!) search results. I don't need any crazy search operators. It doesn't need to index off my primary domain. It just needs to work! Thanks, Hive Mind!

• Deploying Socket.IO App to Windows Azure Web Site with Azure CLI

  In this blog post, I will demonstrate how to deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website using Windows Azure Cross-Platform Command-Line Interface, which leverages the Windows Azure Website’s new support for Web Sockets. Recently Windows Azure has announced lot of enhancements including the support for Web Sockets in Windows Azure Websites, which lets the Node.js developers deploy Socket.IO apps to Windows Azure Websites. In this blog post, I am using  Windows Azure CLI for create and deploy Windows Azure Website. Install  Windows Azure CLI The Windows Azure CLI available as a NPM module so that you can install Windows Azure CLI using  NPM as shown in the below command. After installing the azure-cli, just enter the command “azure” which will show the useful commands provided by Azure CLI. Import Windows Azure Subscription Account In order to import our Azure subscription account, we need to download the Windows Azure subscription profile. The Azure CLI command “account download” lets you download the  Windows Azure subscription profile as shown in the below command. The command redirect you login to Windows Azure portal and allow you to download the Windows Azure publish settings file. The account import command lets you import the downloaded publish settings file so that you can create and manage Websites, Cloud Services, Virtual Machines and Mobile Services in Windows Azure. Create Windows Azure Website and Enable Web Sockets In this post, we are going to deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website by using the Web Socket support provided by Windows Azure. Let’s create a Website named “socketiochatapp” using the Azure CLI. The above command will create a Windows Azure Website that will also initialize a Git repository with a remote named Azure. We can see the newly created Website from Azure portal. By default, the Web Sockets will be disabled. So let’s enable it by navigating to the Configure tab of the Website, and select “ON” in Web Sockets option and save the configuration changes. Deploy a Node.js Socket.IO App to Windows Azure Now, our Windows Azure Website supports Web Sockets so that we can easily deploy Socket.IO app to Windows Azure Website. Let’s add Node.js chat app which leverages Socket.IO module. Please note that you have to add npm module dependencies in the package.json file so that Windows Azure can install the dependencies when deploying the app. Let’s add the Node.js app and add the files to git repository. Let’s commit the changes to git repository. We have committed the changes to git local repository. Let’s push the changes to Windows Azure production environment. The successful deployment can see from the Windows Azure portal by navigating to the deployments tab of the selected Windows Azure Website.   Are you tired of the default New Tab Page in Google Chrome and want something more useful and artistic? Then join us as we look at the Incredible StartPage extension. Before Here is the default “New Tab Page” in our Chrome Browser…it looks rather plain and boring. How about something better? Incredible StartPage in Action This is what our “New Tab Page” looked like after installing the extension. As you can see there is a “Note Section”, “Closed Tabs Section”, “All Bookmarks Section”, and a “Bookmarks Toolbar (links only) Section”. Note: Clicking on links in Incredible StartPage will open them in the current tab. If you want you can easily modify how Incredible StartPage looks using the “Options” in the upper right corner. After only a couple of minutes our “New Tab Page” was looking nice…new background color, image, and altered note. A very useful feature of the “Note Section” is that you can add your notes to an e-mail by clicking on the “Post to Gmail Link” just below the note. Note: Special “Chrome Pages” (i.e. Extensions) will not open from the “Closed Tabs Section”. When you click on “Post to Gmail” a new tab will be opened with your notes pre-pasted into the main letter body. All that is left for you to do is select the appropriate e-mail address(es) and to make any desired modifications to the “Subject & Letter”. Going back to the “New Tab Page” you can trade bookmarks back and forth between the “All Bookmarks Section” and the “Bookmarks Toolbar Section”. Simply drag-and-drop as desired…but keep in mind that any changes made here will also be reflected in your “Bookmarks Toolbar & Other Bookmarks”. There is our bookmark freshly traded over to the “Bookmarks Toolbar Section”…looking very nice. • OracleServiceBus+SOA in same server

  Oracle Service Bus 11gR1 (11.1.1.3) supports running in same JVM as SOA. This tutorial covers on how to do create domain in of SOA+OSB combined to run in single JVM .For this tutorial we will use a flavor  WebLogic installer bundled with both OEPE and coherence components (eg oepe111150_wls1033_win32.exe). WebLogic installer bundled with coherence and OEPE components can be seen in the screen shot.Oracle Service Bus 11gR1 (11.1.1.3) has built-in caching support for Business Services using coherence. Because of this we will have to install coherence before  installing OSB.  To get SOAand OSB running in the same domain, we have to install the SOA and OSB on the above ORACLE_HOME. After installation we should see both the SOA and OSB homes has highlighted in red.We could also see the coherence components which is mandatory for OSB and optional OEPE also installed.                     Now we will execute RCU(ofm_rcu_win_11.1.1.3.0_disk1_1of1) to install the schema for SOA and OSB. New RCU contains OSB tables (WLI_QS_REPORT_DATA , WLI_QS_REPORT_ATTRIBUTE) gets loaded as part of SOAINFRA schema  After this step we will have to create soa+osb domain using config wizard. It is located under $WEBLOGIC_HOME\common\bin\config.* (.cmd or .sh as per your platform) .While creating a domain we will select options for SOA Suite  and Oracle Service Bus Extension-All Domain Topologies.We can also bundle Enterprise Manager in the same installation or in a different server. Here in this case we will use the enterprise manager in the same domain. So we selected the Enterprise Manager component also. There is another option for OSB  Oracle Service Bus Extension-Single server Domain Topology. This topology is for users who want to use OSB in single server configuration. Currently SOA doesn't support single server topology. So this topology cannot be used with SOA domain but can only be used for stand alone OSB installations.We can continue with domain configuration till we reach the below screen. Following steps are mandatory if we want to have the SOA and OSB run in same JVMwe should select Managed Server, Clusters and Machines as shown below   After this selection you should see a screen with two servers One managed server for OSB and one managed for SOA.  Since we would like to have both the servers in one managed server (one JVM) we will have to do one

• How do I keep my Huawei E3131 3G modem from unmounting?

  I need help getting my Huawei E3131 modem to (consistently) work. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04.2 and 3G dongles have worked many times before. However, my newly acquired Huawei E3131 is causing problems. When plugged in, Ubuntu detects the device as a CD-ROM and a modem. I can browse the dongle's contents using Nautilus and Network Manager is able to configure and work the dongle out-of-the-box. I can even get to surf. However, within minutes, the connection drops and the CD-ROM is unmounted. I wait about 15 seconds, then the CD-ROM mounts again and Network Manager is able to connect again with short-lived surfing. Rinse, lather and repeat. It's strange that the device mounts as a CD-ROM, but works as a modem, too, suggesting that mode switching happens somewhere. It's not a signal coverage problem, either because I tested the same SIM card using 3 other different dongles (2 ZTEs and another Huawei) and it is only this E3131 that has this problem. If pertinent, the other dongles weren't being detected as CD-ROMs. Output of lsusb Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. • Step Away From That Computer! You’re Not Qualified to Use It!

  Most things tend to come with warnings and careful instructions these days, but sadly not one of the most ubiquitous appliances of all, your computer. If a chainsaw is missing its instructions, you’re well advised not to use it, even though you probably know roughly how it’s supposed to work. I confess, there are days when I feel the same way about computers. Long ago, during the renaissance of the computer age, it was possible to know everything about computers. But today, it is challenging to be fully knowledgeable even in one small area, and most people aren’t as savvy as they like to think. And, if I may borrow from Edwin Abbott Abbott’s classic Flatland, that includes me. And you. Need an example of what I mean? Take a look at almost any recent month’s batch of Windows updates. Just two quick questions for you: Do you need all of those updates? Is it safe to install all of those updates? I do software design and development for a living on Windows and the .NET platform, but I will be quite candid: I often have little clue what the heck some of those updates are going to do or why they are needed. So, if you do not know why they are needed or what they do, how do you know if they are safe? Of course, one can sidestep both questions by accepting Microsoft’s recommended Windows Update setting of “install updates automatically”. That leads you to infer that you need all of them (which is not always the case) and, more significantly, that they are safe. Quite safe. Ah, lest reality intrude upon such a pretty picture! Sadly, there is no such thing as risk-free software installation, and payloads from Windows Update are no exception. Earlier this year, a Windows Secrets Patch Watch article touted this headline: Keep this troublesome kernel update on hold. It discusses KB 2862330, a security update originally published more than 4 months earlier, and yet the article still recommends not installing it! Most people simply do not have the time, resources, or interest, to go about figuring out which updates to install or postpone or skip for safety reasons. Windows Secrets Patch Watch is the best service I have encountered for getting advice, but it is still no panacea and using the service effectively requires a degree of computer literacy that I still think is beyond a good number of people. • A Technique for Performing Cross-host Upgrades to FMW 11gR1

  The main tool used for the upgrade of iAS 10g mid-tier (data not stored in 10g meta-data repository schemas) environments to Fusion Middleware (FMW) 11gR1 is the FMW Upgrade Assistant (UA). This tool performs what we call an out-of-place upgrade which in a nut-shell means the following: Upgrade is performed by pointing the UA to a 10g source topology as well as an 11g destination topology. The destination topology must be created, using the standard FMW 11g installation and configuration process, prior to the execution of the UA. The UA carries over all of the required changes from the source environment to the destination. This approach has a number of advantages rooted in the fact that the source environment - which is presumably working well and serving its needs - is not disturbed during the upgrade process as the UA only performs read-only operations on it. The UA today can only perform such out-of-place upgrades when the source and destination topologies reside on the same machine. This can sometimes be an issue when the host on which the iAS 10g environment is installed is running at full capacity and installing new hardware for the purpose of the upgrade (in most cases what would be needed is extra memory) is completely infeasible. In such cases, upgrade across a different host is still possible by using the following technique: Backup your source environment and restore it on to a target machine. The backup and restore procedures for the iAS 10.1.2 components are described within this section of the release's Administration Guide. As described in the docs, the Oracle Application Server Backup and Recovery Tool provides capabilities for backing up the installation on one machine and restoring it on another which is exactly what you want to do for the purpose of cross host upgrade. Ensure that the restored environment on your target host is fully functional. Go through the upgrade steps on the target machine to perform the out-of-place upgrade using the UA. Although this process does add another big step to the overall upgrade process, it does make it possible to perform a cross-host upgrade to 11gR1 when necessary. The easiest approach would of course be to find a way of ensuring that the required hardware capacity for upgrade is available on the original 10g host. Using techniques such as scheduling the upgrade at low traffic times and/or temporarily stopping other processes running on the machine to clear up some memory might provide you the sufficient memory needed to perform the out-of-place upgrade and save you the need for using the backup/restore technique I have described in this post.

• Unable to update/ install any files [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: “Problem with MergeList” error when trying to do an update Just now I installed ubuntu 12.04 on my Lenovo G570 laptop. First I got an error at the time of installation (don't know about it) and I restarted the system and next time, it went well. So, after installing problems started.. There was a error with "Language recognition" and I tried to fix it but didn't work. The interesting part is, powertop worked will on live cd and it even detected my ATI card. Update When I opened "Software Up to Date", this showed a error: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' : My laptop details Lenovo G570; Intel 2nd Gen i5 processor 4GB DDR3 RAM Intel in-build graphics + AMD Radeon HD 6370M 1GB graphics. • Choose the Text Editor Used to View Source Code in Internet Explorer

  Everyone has a favorite text editor that they like to use when viewing or working with source code. If you are unhappy with the default choice in Internet Explorer 8 then join us as we show you how to set up access to your favorite text editor. A Look at Before Here is Internet Explorer on our test system ready to help us view the source code for one of the pages here at the site. Perhaps “Notepad” is your default source code viewer… Or in the case of our test system where “EditPad Lite” was the default due to choices we made while installing it. Choose Your Favorite Text Editor Chances are you have your own personal favorite and want to make it the default source code viewer. To get started go to the “Tools Menu”  and click on “Developer Tools” or press “F12” to access the “Developer Tools Window”. Once you have the “Developer Tools Window” open go to the “File Menu”, then “Customize Internet Explorer View Source”, and click on “Other”. Once you have clicked on “Other” you will see the “Program Directory” for the current default app. Here you can see the “Program Files Folder” for “EditPad Lite”. To change the default app simply browse for the appropriate program folder. On our test system we decided to change the default to “Editra”. Once you have located the program that you want to use click on the “.exe” file for that app and click “Open”. Once you have clicked “Open”, all that is left for you to do is close the “Developer Tools Window”…everything else is already taken care of. And just like that you can be viewing source code with your favorite text editor. Conclusion If you have been unhappy with the default source code viewer in Internet Explorer 8 then you can set up access to your favorite text editor in just a couple of minutes. • Macbook Pro 13" Retina (10,2): Keyboard and Touchpad don't work correcltly

  I'm dealing with Ubuntu since about 5 years and installed it on several laptops. Now I'm stuck when trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on a brand new Macbook Pro 13" Retina (10,2). I sucessfully can start Ubuntu from an USB stick, the Ubuntu desktop is visible, a mouse cursor is visible. But there is no respond to keyboard or touchpad input. So I cannot really install Ubuntu on the Macbook. The details of my approach: Prepare an empty USB stick Download "ISO 2 USB EFI Booter for Mac" and copy the file bootX64.efi to the USB drive as /efi/boot/bootX64.efi. Download Ubuntu 12.04.1 Desktop for Mac from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/1-amd64+mac.iso and copy the iso the USB drive as /efi/boot/boot.iso Put the USB stick into the Macbook Press and hold the "alt" button while switching the Macbook on Select "EFI Boot" from the boot menu that appears and press the Return / Enter key Immediately a black terminal screen appears with the headline "Welcome to the Ubuntu ISO << - EFI booter". 30 seconds later the familiar Ubuntu startup graphics screen is showing. Further 20 seconds later Ubuntu has started and the desktop is visible - in wonderfully fine resolution Now the computer does not respond to any actions on the touchpad nor the keyboard Who did install Ubuntu on this Macbook Pro 13" Retina (10,2) successfully? On this site https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro this unit is not listed yet, anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Dirk PS: I could now install ubuntu with an external USB Keyboard/Mouse Set. But now, after showing the grub menu, a kernel panic error appears and booting stops :-/ Seems that the ubuntu images fit not to a macbook pro retina 13" (10,2) yet. PPS: Ok, there are new facts: If I edit the boot options and enter " nomodeset noapic" ubuntu starts and Keyboard and Touchpad work! Now I have to enable WiFi... PPPS: After installing Broadcom firmware from USB Live stick as described in other posts, WiFi was enabled. Then I could update ubuntu normally to 12.10. After this, I must not enter "nomodeset noapic" in the grub menu anymore. Last Thing now is the Touchpad. The driver seems not to be there. The touch pad is only showing as mouse. t.b.c.

  Installing Oracle Event Processing 11g Earlier this month I was involved in organizing the Monument Family History Day.  It was certainly a complex event, with dozens of presenters, guides and 100s of visitors.  So with that experience of a complex event under my belt I decided to refresh my acquaintance with Oracle Event Processing (CEP). CEP has a developer side based on Eclipse and a runtime environment. Developer Install The developer install requires several steps (documentation) Download required software Eclipse  (Linux) – It is recommended to use version 3.6.2 (Helios) Install Eclipse Unzip the download into the desired directory Start Eclipse Add Oracle CEP Repository in Eclipse http://download.oracle.com/technology/software/cep-ide/11/ Install Oracle CEP Tools for Eclipse 3.6 You may need to set the proxy if behind a firewall. Modify eclipse.ini If using Windows edit with wordpad rather than notepad Point to 1.6 JVM Insert following lines before –vmargs -vm \PATH_TO_1.6_JDK\jre\bin\javaw.exe Increase PermGen Memory Insert following line at end of file -XX:MaxPermSize=256M Restart eclipse and verify that everything is installed as expected. Server install The server install is very straightforward (documentation).  It is recommended to use the JRockit JDK with CEP so the steps to set up a working CEP server environment are: Download required software JRockit – I used Oracle “JRockit 6 - R28.2.5” which includes “JRockit Mission Control 4.1” and “JRockit Real Time 4.1”. Oracle Event Processor – I used “Complex Event Processing Release 11gR1 (11.1.1.6.0)” Install JRockit Run the JRockit installer, the download is an executable binary that just needs to be marked as executable. Install CEP Unzip the downloaded file Run the CEP installer,  the unzipped file is an executable binary that may need to be marked as executable. Choose a custom install and add the examples if needed. It is not recommended to add the examples to a production environment but they can be helpful in development. Voila The Deed Is Done With CEP installed you are now ready to start a server, if you didn’t install the demoes then you will need to create a domain before starting the server. Once the server is up and running (using startwlevs.sh) you can verify that the visualizer is available on http://hostname:port/wlevs, the default port for the demo domain is 9002. With the server running you can test the IDE by creating a new “Oracle CEP Application Project” and creating a new target environment pointing at your CEP installation. Much easier than organizing a Family History Day!
