Hi,
I've used JAXB Marshaller as well as my own marshaller for marshalling pure java bean objects into XML. It has been observed that both of them require almost same time to marshal. The performance is not acceptable and needs to be improved. What are possible ways where we can improve performance of marshaller? Like threading?
org.eclipse.swt.browser.Browser
I load the embedded browser into java and have it load a page.
It seems to load really slow... is this an issue with the page caching? What can I do to speed this up?
I am looking for a open source library in Java for HTML Microsoft Word conversion. I have found many tools for Word to HTML conversion but not too many for converse.
How can I do the equivalent of the Ruby snippet below using Java?
require 'net/http'
res = Net::HTTP.get_response(URI.parse("http://somewhere.com/isalive")).body
I'm trying to handle an FileNotFoundException in Java by suspending the thread for x seconds and rereading the file. The idea behind this is to edit properties during runtime.
The problem is that the programm simply terminates. Any idea how to realize this solution?
I have a java application that has an icon in the tray of the menu bar at the top of OSX. I've been able to remove the icon from the dock when the application is "minimized to tray", but it still appears when I command-tab to switch between my running applications. I'd like to hide it from there too, but I'm not sure how to do that, so I would appreciate any advice
Thanks!
JavaMail requires that you specify an external SMTP server when sending mail. I want to have my java app send email directly without having to use an external SMTP server such as postfix or sendmail.
Can anyone recommend a library which provides this kind of functionality?
Ive done some googling and have come up with nothing.
My Java desktop application includes a component for communicating with a web service.
We therefore need to include the access details for it within the application, but do not want it to be easily accessible in the event that the code is decompiled (we will be obfuscating).
What techniques can we use to secure these details?
The Java Virtual Machine supports several garbage collection strategies.
This article explains them.
Now I am wondering which (automatically selected) strategy my application is using, is there any way to let the JVM(version 1.6) print this information?
I was surprised to see in the Java source that System.arraycopy is a native method.
Of course the reason is because it's faster. But what native tricks is the code able to employ that make it faster?
Why not just loop over the original array and copy each pointer to the new array - surely this isn't that slow and cumbersome?
Thanks,

What is the event handler in Java (using net beans, Swing) that resembles the Paint in C#?

Anyone know of a good library to invoke powershell scripts from within Java? I'm currently spawning a seperate process (powershell.exe) and then parse the output, but it would really be nice if I can leverage Powershell's 'power' by getting objects back from a powershell call.
Edit:
Otherwise, anyone else doing such interop? What method do you use?

OK so, let's say I have a Java applet that takes a while to load (~5 secs). It's getting the mysql-connector.jar and it's loading. Well.. instead of the gray box with the coffee logo... can I make it have a simple progress bar with the percent?
Thanks.
I know use System.exit(0) can end a java program, for instance, if I have a JFrame window, it will close and end the program, but I wonder how many other ways, can it be closed and the program be ended ? Including when an error occurs, will the program be shut down and the JFrame be closed ?

Hi
We can resrict the creation of object of a class by making it's constructor private.
But this constructor could still be called from within the class.
is there anyway to prevent this in Java?
Thnx.
Hi there,
I have a Java IRC bot which i would like to query a shoutcast server and return basic information (song playing etc). Can someone guide me in the right direction? Thank you.
In Java is there an equivalent to the C# "using" statement allowing to define a scope for an object:
using (AwesomeClass hooray = new AwesomeClass)
{
// Great code
}
This has probably allready been asked but the keywords make it difficult to find a relevant question.
