  • Problem with building tree bottom up

    - by Esmond
    Hi, I have problems building a binary tree from the bottom up. THe input of the tree would be internal nodes of the trees with the children of this node being the leaves of the eventual tree. So initially if the tree is empty the root would be the first internal node. Afterwards, The next internal node to be added would be the new root(NR), with the old root(OR) being one of the child of NR. And so on. The problem i have is that whenever i add a NR, the children of the OR seems to be lost when i do a inOrder traversal. This is proven to be the case when i do a getSize() call which returns the same number of nodes before and after addNode(Tree,Node) Any help with resolving this problem is appreciated edited with the inclusion of node class code. both tree and node classes have the addChild methods because i'm not very sure where to put them for it to be appropriated. any comments on this would be appreciated too. The code is as follows: import java.util.*; public class Tree { Node root; int size; public Tree() { root = null; } public Tree(Node root) { this.root = root; } public static void setChild(Node parent, Node child, double weight) throws ItemNotFoundException { if (parent.child1 != null && parent.child2 != null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("This Node already has 2 children"); } else if (parent.child1 != null) { parent.child2 = child; child.parent = parent; parent.c2Weight = weight; } else { parent.child1 = child; child.parent = parent; parent.c1Weight = weight; } } public static void setChild1(Node parent, Node child) { parent.child1 = child; child.parent = parent; } public static void setChild2(Node parent, Node child) { parent.child2 = child; child.parent = parent; } public static Tree addNode(Tree tree, Node node) throws ItemNotFoundException { Tree tree1; if (tree.root == null) { tree.root = node; } else if (tree.root.getSeq().equals(node.getChild1().getSeq()) || tree.root.getSeq().equals(node.getChild2().getSeq())) { Node oldRoot = tree.root; oldRoot.setParent(node); tree.root = node; } else { //form a disjoint tree and merge the 2 trees tree1 = new Tree(node); tree = mergeTree(tree, tree1); } System.out.print("addNode2 = "); if(tree.root != null ) { Tree.inOrder(tree.root); } System.out.println(); return tree; } public static Tree mergeTree(Tree tree, Tree tree1) { String root = "root"; Node node = new Node(root); tree.root.setParent(node); tree1.root.setParent(node); tree.root = node; return tree; } public static int getSize(Node root) { if (root != null) { return 1 + getSize(root.child1) + getSize(root.child2); } else { return 0; } } public static boolean isEmpty(Tree Tree) { return Tree.root == null; } public static void inOrder(Node root) { if (root != null) { inOrder(root.child1); System.out.print(root.sequence + " "); inOrder(root.child2); } } } public class Node { Node child1; Node child2; Node parent; double c1Weight; double c2Weight; String sequence; boolean isInternal; public Node(String seq) { sequence = seq; child1 = null; c1Weight = 0; child2 = null; c2Weight = 0; parent = null; isInternal = false; } public boolean hasChild() { if (this.child1 == null && this.child2 == null) { this.isInternal = false; return isInternal; } else { this.isInternal = true; return isInternal; } } public String getSeq() throws ItemNotFoundException { if (this.sequence == null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("No such node"); } else { return this.sequence; } } public void setChild(Node child, double weight) throws ItemNotFoundException { if (this.child1 != null && this.child2 != null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("This Node already has 2 children"); } else if (this.child1 != null) { this.child2 = child; this.c2Weight = weight; } else { this.child1 = child; this.c1Weight = weight; } } public static void setChild1(Node parent, Node child) { parent.child1 = child; child.parent = parent; } public static void setChild2(Node parent, Node child) { parent.child2 = child; child.parent = parent; } public void setParent(Node parent){ this.parent = parent; } public Node getParent() throws ItemNotFoundException { if (this.parent == null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("This Node has no parent"); } else { return this.parent; } } public Node getChild1() throws ItemNotFoundException { if (this.child1 == null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("There is no child1"); } else { return this.child1; } } public Node getChild2() throws ItemNotFoundException { if (this.child2 == null) { throw new ItemNotFoundException("There is no child2"); } else { return this.child2; } } }

  • Ruby socket server thread question: how to send to all clients?

    - by Paul
I'm making a TCP socket server(ruby). A thread is created for each connected client. At some point I try to send data to all connected clients. The thread aborts on exception while trying.(ruby 1.8.7) require 'socket' # I test it home right now server = TCPServer.new('localhost', 12345); while(session = server.accept) #Here is the thread being created Thread.new(session) do |s| while(msg = s.gets) #Here is the part that causes the error Thread.list.each { |aThread| if aThread != Thread.current #So what I want it to do is to echo the message from one client to all others #But for some reason it doesn't, and aborts on the following string aThread.print "#{msg}\0" end } end end Thread.abort_on_exception = true end What am I doing wrong?

  • All possible values of int from the smallest to the largest, using Java.

    - by Totophil
Write a program to print out all possible values of int data type from the smallest to the largest, using Java. Some notable solutions as of 8th of May 2009, 10:44 GMT: 1) Daniel Lew was the first to post correctly working code. 2) Kris has provided the simplest solution for the given problem. 3) Tom Hawtin - tackline, came up arguably with the most elegant solution. 4) mmyers pointed out that printing is likely to become a bottleneck and can be improved through buffering. 5) Jay's brute force approach is notable since, besides defying the core point of programming, the resulting source code takes about 128 GB and will blow compiler limits. As a side note I believe that the answers do demonstrate that it could be a good interview question, as long as the emphasis is not on the ability to remember trivia about the data type overflow and its implications (that can be easily spotted during unit testing), or the way of obtaining MAX and MIN limits (can easily be looked up in the documentation) but rather on the analysis of various ways of dealing with the problem.

  • Consuming RSS Feed In PHP

    - by mrduclaw
I'm trying to use an RSS feed from my blog on the news section on another site. Everything seems to be working fine until I use something like an ellipsis on my blog. The expected output is: One more time…less fail Although this is no joking matter… The actual output is: One more time?less fail Although this is no joking matter… The problem is that ? should be a .... The code I'm using is the same for the first line (the blog title) and the second line (the blog contents) and that code is: $a = utf8_decode($a); print("$a"); Where $a is the string from the RSS feed. Can anyone point in the right direction why that code would work correctly for the body (second line) and not for the title (first line)? Or suggest a better way to do this? Thanks!

  • How to get lng lat value from query results of geoalchemy2

    - by user2213606
For exammple, class Lake(Base): __tablename__ = 'lake' id = Column(Integer, primary_key=True) name = Column(String) geom = Column(Geometry('POLYGON')) point = Column(Geometry('Point')) lake = Lake(name='Orta', geom='POLYGON((3 0,6 0,6 3,3 3,3 0))', point="POINT(2 9)") query = session.query(Lake).filter(Lake.geom.ST_Contains('POINT(4 1)')) for lake in query: print lake.point it returned <WKBElement at 0x2720ed0; '010100000000000000000000400000000000002240'> I also tried to do lake.point.ST_X() but it didn't give the expected latitude neither What is the correct way to transform the value from WKBElement to readable and useful format, say (lng, lat)? Thanks

  • do I need to use partial?

    - by wiso
    I've a general function, for example (only a simplified example): def do_operation(operation, a, b, name): print name do_something_more(a,b,name, operation(a,b)) def operation_x(a,b): return a**2 + b def operation_y(a,b): return a**10 - b/2. and some data: data = {"first": {"name": "first summation", "a": 10, "b": 20, "operation": operation_x}, "second": {"name": "second summation", "a": 20, "b": 50, "operation": operation_y}, "third": {"name": "third summation", "a": 20, "b": 50, "operation": operation_x}, # <-- operation_x again } now I can do: what_to_do = ("first", "third") # this comes from command line for sum_id in what_to_do: do_operation(data["operation"], data["a"], data["b"], data["name"]) or maybe it's better if I use functools.partial? from functools import partial do_operation_one = do_operation(name=data["first"]["name"], operation=data["first"]["operation"], a=data["first"]["a"], b=data["first"]["b"]) do_operation_two = do_operation(name=data["second"]["name"], operation=data["second"]["operation"] a=data["second"]["a"], b=data["second"]["b"]) do_operation_three = do_operation(name=data["third"]["name"], operation=data["third"]["operation"] a=data["third"]["a"], b=data["third"]["b"]) do_dictionary = { "first": do_operation_one, "second": do_operation_two, "third": do_operation_three } for what in what_to_do: do_dictionary[what]()

  • Counting the number of characters in a file

    - by Kat
    I'm writing a program that for one part asks for the program to print how many characters (including whitespaces) are in a file. The code I have right now though returns 0 every time though and I'm not sure why it isn't counting the characters. public int getcharCount(Scanner textFile) { int count = 0; while(textFile.hasNext()) { String line = textFile.nextLine(); for(int i=0; i < line.length(); i++) count++; } return count; }

  • Are large include files like iostream efficient? (C++)

    - by Keand64
Iostream, when all of the files it includes, the files that those include, and so on and so forth, adds up to about 3000 lines. Consider the hello world program, which needs no more functionality than to print something to the screen: #include <iostream> //+3000 lines right there. int main() { std::cout << "Hello, World!"; return 0; } this should be a very simple piece of code, but iostream adds 3000+ lines to a marginal piece of code. So, are these 3000+ lines of code really needed to simply display a single line to the screen, and if not, do they create a less efficient program than if I simply copied the relevant lines into the code?

  • Go Channels in Ruby

    - by Julius Eckert
In the Go programming language, you can send Messages around using a construct called "Channels". http://golang.org/doc/effective_go.html#channels I would love to use something like that in Ruby, especially for IPC. Pseudocode of what I want: channel = Channel.new fork do 3.times{ channel.send("foo ") } exit! end Thread.new do 3.times{ channel.send("bar ") } end loop do print channel.recv end # ~> bar foo foo bar bar foo Is there any construct, library or equivalent for Ruby which works like that ? If not: What is the best way to build such an abstraction?

  • What might cause ruby to lock up while exiting?

    - by user30997
I have a ruby script that does a few perforce operations (through the scripting API) then simply ends: def foo() ... end def bar() ... end foo() bar() puts __LINE__ exit 0 #end of file ...and while the LINE will print out, the process never ends, whether the exit(0) is there or not. This is ruby 1.8.6, primarily on the mac, but I'm seeing this on the PC as well. I'm doing the usual google poking around, but hoped there might be a voice of experience here to bank on. Thanks.

  • Parsing JSON file with Python -> google map api

    - by Hannes
Hi all, I am trying to get started with JSON in Python, but it seems that I misunderstand something in the JSON concept. I followed the google api example, which works fine. But when I change the code to a lower level in the JSON response (as shown below, where I try to get access to the location), I get the following error message for code below: Traceback (most recent call last): File "geoCode.py", line 11, in test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) KeyError: 'location' How can I get access to lower information level in the JSON file in python? Do I have to go to a higher level and search the result string? That seems very weird to me? Here is the code I have tried to run: import urllib, json URL2 = "http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=false" googleResponse = urllib.urlopen(URL2); jsonResponse = json.loads(googleResponse.read()) test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) print test Thank you for your responses.

  • How to set the path to "context path" for uploaded files using Apache Common fileupload?

    - by BugKiller
Hi, I'm using Apache common fileupload library with Netbeans 6.8 + Glassfish.I'm trying to change the current upload path to be in the current context path of the servlet , something like this: WEB-INF/upload so I wrote : File uploadedFile = new File("WEB-INF/upload/"+fileName); session.setAttribute("path",uploadedFile.getAbsolutePath()); item.write(uploadedFile); but I notice that the library save the uploaded files into glassfish folder , here what I get when I print the absolute path of the uploaded file : C:\Program Files\sges-v3\glassfish\domains\domain1\WEB-INF\upload\xx.rar My Question : How can I force the common fileupload to save the uploaded file in a path relative to the current servlet path , so I don't need to specify the whole path ? is this possible ?

  • Listing time every second as a Bash script

    - by Caleb
Hello all, first time here as I've finally started to learn programming. Anyway, I'm just trying to print the time in nanoseconds every second here, and I have this: #!/usr/bin/env bash while true; do date=(date +%N) ; echo $date ; sleep 1 ; done Now, that simply yields a string of date's, which isn't what I want. My learning has been rather messy, so I hope you'll excuse me for this if it's really simple. Also, I did manage to fine this, that worked on the prompt: while true ; do date +%N ; sleep 1 ; done But that obviously doesn't work as a script.

  • Python + PostgreSQL + strange ascii = UTF8 encoding error

    - by Claudiu
I have ascii strings which contain the character "\x80" to represent the euro symbol: >>> print "\x80" € When inserting string data containing this character into my database, I get: psycopg2.DataError: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encodi ng expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". I'm a unicode newbie. How can I convert my strings containing "\x80" to valid UTF-8 containing that same euro symbol? • NumPy: how to quickly normalize many vectors?

    - by EOL
How can a list of vectors be elegantly normalized, in NumPy? Here is an example that does not work: from numpy import * vectors = array([arange(10), arange(10)]) # All x's, then all y's norms = apply_along_axis(linalg.norm, 0, vectors) # Now, what I was expecting would work: print vectors.T / norms # vectors.T has 10 elements, as does norms, but this does not work The last operation yields "shape mismatch: objects cannot be broadcast to a single shape". How can the normalization of the 2D vectors in vectors be elegantly done, with NumPy? Edit: Why does the above not work while adding a dimension to norms does work (as per my answer below)?

  • Regarding BigDecimal

    - by arav
i do the below java print command for this double variable double test=58.15; When i do a System.out.println(test); and System.out.println(new Double(test).toString()); It prints as 58.15. When i do a System.out.println(new BigDecimal(test)) I get the below value 58.14999999999999857891452847979962825775146484375 I am able to understand "test" double variable value is internally stored as 58.1499999. But when i do the below two System.out.println i am getting the output as 58.15 and not 58.1499999. System.out.println(test); System.out.println(new Double(test).toString()); It prints the output as 58.15 for the above two. Is the above System.out.println statements are doing some rounding of the value 58.1499999 and printing it as 58.15?

  • Dynamically call a stored procedure from another stored procedure

    - by Greg
I want to be able to pass in the name of a stored procedure as a string into another stored procedure and have it called with dynamic parameters. I'm getting an error though. Specifically I've tried: create procedure test @var1 varchar(255), @var2 varchar(255) as select 1 create procedure call_it @proc_name varchar(255) as declare @sp_str varchar(255) set @sp_str = @proc_name + ' ''a'',''b''' print @sp_str exec @sp_str exec call_it 'test' So procedure call_it should call procedure test with arguments 'a', and 'b'. When I run the above code I get: Msg 2812, Level 16, State 62, Procedure call_it, Line 6 Could not find stored procedure 'test 'a','b''. However, running test 'a','b' works fine.

  • __getattr__ on a module

  • How to specify character encoding for Ant Task parameters in Java

    - by räph
I'm writing an ANT task in Java. In my build.xml I specify parameters, which should be read from my java class. Problems occur, when I use special characters, like german umlauts (Ö,Ä,Ü) in these parameters. In my java task they appear as ?-characters (using System.out.print). All my files are encoded as UTF-8. and my build.xml has the corresponding declaration: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> For the details of writing the task: I do it according to http://ant.apache.org/manual/develop.html (especially Point 5 nested elements). I have nested elements in my task like: <parameter name="test" value="ÖÄÜtest"/> and a java method: public void addConfiguredParameter(Parameter prop) { System.out.println(prop.getValue()); //prints ???test } to read the parameter values.

  • Help with Btree homework

    - by Phenom
I need to do a preorder traversal of a Btree, and among other things, print the following information for each page (which is the same thing as a node): The B-Tree page number The value of each B-Tree page pointer (e.g., address, byte offset, RRN). My questions are: 1. How do you figure out the byte offset? What is it offset from? 2. Isn't the RRN the same as the page number? Note: A Btree is NOT A BINARY TREE. Btrees can have multiple keys in each node, and a node with n keys has n+1 child pointers.
