  • When to use Shift operators << >> in C# ?

    - by Junior Mayhé
I was studying shift operators in C#, trying to find out when to use them in my code. I found an answer but for Java, you could: a) Make faster integer multiplication and division operations: *4839534 * 4* can be done like this: 4839534 << 2 or 543894 / 2 can be done like this: 543894 1 Shift operations much more faster than multiplication for most of processors. b) Reassembling byte streams to int values c) For accelerating operations with graphics since Red, Green and Blue colors coded by separate bytes. d) Packing small numbers into one single long... For b, c and d I can't imagine here a real sample. Does anyone know if we can accomplish all these items in C#? Is there more practical use for shift operators in C#?

  • Determining default character set of platform in Java

    - by Anand
I am programming in Java I have the code as: byte[] b = test.getBytes(); In the api it is specified that if we do not specify character encoding it takes the default platform character encoding. What is meant by "default platform character encoding" ? Does it mean the Java encoding or the OS encoding ? If it means OS encoding the how can i check the default character encoding of Windows and Linux ? Is there anyway we can get the default character encoding using command line ?

  • Why does Xcode launch the iPhone simulator when the iPad simulator is selected?

    - by Dr Dork
When I open an existing iPad project in Xcode and "Build and Run" it, it launches the iPhone simulator when I have the iPad Simulator set as the active executable? Inside the iPhone simulator is a shrunken version of the iPad. What is going on? How do I get it to run the iPad simulator? Note: When the iPhone Simulator is running, I double checked the Hardware-Device setting and it's set to iPad. This is what I want, of course, but I don't want it to run the iPhone simulator. I seem to recall it used to run an iPad simulator. Is there such a thing or am I tripping and there is only an iPhone simulator that can run iPad apps? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Is there a different between boost iostream mapped file and boost interprocess mapped file?

    - by Yijinsei
hey guys, want to create a mapped binary file into memory, however I not sure how to create the file to mapped into the system. I read documentation several times and realize there is 2 mapped file, one in iostream and the other in interprocess. Do you guys have any idea on how to create a mapped file into shared memory. I trying to allow multi thread program to read an array of large double written in a binary file format. Also what is the different between the mapped file in iostream and interprocess?

  • Should External Routine Be Declared Always in Fortran?

    - by Ngu Soon Hui
In my fortran code I made the following call to dnrm2 routine d = dnrm2(n, ax, 1) Just a simple call that would return me a double precision result. The problem is whether I should declare the function at the start of my script. I found that if I don't declare it, and when I compile the code in 32 bit Windows, then the result is correct. But if I compile the code in 64 bit Windows, then the result won't be correct. Why this is so? Is external routine must always be declared?

  • Is it possible to share a C struct in shared memory between apps compiled with different compilers?

    - by Joseph Garvin
I realize that in general the C and C++ standards gives compiler writers a lot of latitude. But in particular it guarantees that POD types like C struct members have to be laid out in memory the same order that they're listed in the structs definition, and most compilers provide extensions letting you fix the alignment of members. So if you had a header that defined a struct and manually specified the alignment of its members, then compiled two apps with different compilers using the header, shouldn't one app be able to write an instance of the struct into shared memory and the other app be able to read it without errors? I am assuming though that the size of the types contained is consistent across two compilers on the same architecture (it has to be the same platform already since we're talking about shared memory). I realize that this is not always true for some types (e.g. long vs. long long in GCC and MSVC 64-bit) but nowadays there are uint16_t, uint32_t, etc. types, and float and double are specified by IEEE standards.

  • webclient methods not available to my Silverlight application

    - by mgkimsal
Trying to do basic webclient data pull in C#, and the methods are not available in visualstudio, and the code is not compiling. //snip WebClient client = new WebClient(); byte[] resp = client.DownloadData(url); //snip Error 1 'System.Net.WebClient' does not contain a definition for 'DownloadData' and no extension method 'DownloadData' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Net.WebClient' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:\Users\Michael\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\search2\search2\MainPage.xaml.cs I'm doing this in a c# file for a XAML/Silverlight project, but can't imagine why that would make a difference. I can not find any reference to this issue on the web, and I had something similar to this working last month, but in a regular ASP.NET page, not in a Silverlight app.

  • Quick, beginner MASM register question - DX:AX

    - by Francisco P.
Hello, I am currently studying for an exam I'll have on x86 assembly. I didn't have much luck googling for ":", too common of a punctuation mark :/ IDIV - Signed Integer Division Usage: IDIV src Modifies flags: (AF,CF,OF,PF,SF,ZF undefined) Signed binary division of accumulator by source. If source is a byte value, AX is divided by "src" and the quotient is stored in AL and the remainder in AH. If source is a word value, DX:AX is divided by "src", and the quotient is stored in AL and the remainder in DX. Taken from "Intel Opcodes and Mnemonics" What does DX:AX mean? Thanks a lot for your time :)

  • Can I can configure cxf to use a specific XML parser?

    - by CJS
Is there a way to specify which XML parser cxf uses? Either through the cfx.xml file or programmatically? Our app has the Woodstox parser on its classpath, and cxf seems to be using that by default. However, the Woodstox implementation seems to truncate large Base64 encoded byte arrays in the SOAP packet. Removing Woodstox from the classpath eliminates this truncation problem, but that's not an option right now since other parts of our app also depends on Woodstox. It would be ideal if I could simply tell cxf to use another XML parser. Is this possible?

  • Load PDF from Memory ASP.Net

    - by Sandhurst
    I am using ITextSharp to generate pdf on the fly and then saving it to disk and display it using Frame. The Frame has an attribute called src where I pass the generated file name. This all is working fine what I want to achieve is passing the generated pdf file to Frame without saving it to disk. HtmlToPdfBuilder builder = new HtmlToPdfBuilder(PageSize.LETTER); HtmlPdfPage first = builder.AddPage(); //import an entire sheet builder.ImportStylesheet(Request.PhysicalApplicationPath + "CSS\\Stylesheet.css"); string coupon = CreateCoupon(); first.AppendHtml(coupon); byte[] file = builder.RenderPdf(); File.WriteAllBytes(Request.PhysicalApplicationPath+"final.pdf", file); printable.Attributes["src"] = "final.pdf";

  • Parametrized Strategy Pattern

    - by ott
I have several Java classes which implement the strategy pattern. Each class has variable number parameters of different types: interface Strategy { public data execute(data); } class StrategyA implements Strategy { public data execute(data); } class StrategyB implements Strategy { public StrategyB(int paramA, int paramB); public data execute(data); } class StrategyB implements Strategy { public StrategyB(int paramA, String paramB, double paramC); public data execute(data); } Now I want that the user can enter the parameters in some kind of UI. The UI should be chosen at runtime, i.e. the strategies should be independent of it. The parameter dialog should not be monolithic and there should be the possibility to make it behave and look different for each strategy and UI (e.g. console or Swing). How would you solve this problem?

  • Common SIMD techniques

    - by zxcat
Hi! Where can I find information about common SIMD tricks? I have an instruction set and know, how to write non-tricky SIMD code, but I know, SIMD now is much more powerful. It can hold complex conditional branchless code. For example (ARMv6), the following sequence of instructions sets each byte of Rd equal to the unsigned minimum of the corresponding bytes of Ra and Rb: USUB8 Rd, Ra, Rb SEL Rd, Rb, Ra Links to tutorials / uncommon SIMD techniques are good too :) ARMv6 is the most interesting for me, but x86(SSE,...)/Neon(in ARMv7)/others are good too. Thank you.

  • Implementing RSA-SHA1 signature algorithm in Java (creating a private key for use with OAuth RSA-SHA

    - by The Elite Gentleman
Hi everyone, As you know, OAuth can support RSA-SHA1 Signature. I have an OAuthSignature interface that has the following method public String sign(String data, String consumerSecret, String tokenSecret) throws GeneralSecurityException; I successfully implemented and tested HMAC-SHA1 Signature (which OAuth Supports) as well as the PLAINTEXT "signature". I have searched google and I have to create a private key if I need to use SHA1withRSA signature: Sample code: /** * Signs the data with the given key and the provided algorithm. */ private static byte[] sign(PrivateKey key, String data) throws GeneralSecurityException { Signature signature = Signature.getInstance("SHA1withRSA"); signature.initSign(key); signature.update(data.getBytes()); return signature.sign(); } Now, How can I take the OAuth key (which is key = consumerSecret&tokenSecret) and create a PrivateKey to use with SHA1withRSA signature? Thanks

  • Computing MD5SUM of large files in C#

    - by spkhaira
I am using following code to compute MD5SUM of a file - byte[] b = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(file); string sum = BitConverter.ToString(new MD5CryptoServiceProvider().ComputeHash(b)); This works fine normally, but if I encounter a large file (~1GB) - e.g. an iso image or a DVD VOB file - I get an Out of Memory exception. Though, I am able to compute the MD5SUM in cygwin for the same file in about 10secs. Please suggest how can I get this to work for big files in my program. Thanks

I am trying to implement InApp purchase in my application. I have implemented it as per Apple's programming guide and it(code) was working fine until I created new application, appid, provisioning profile and in-app products @ another developer account. Now, it gives me following error. Error Domain=SKErrorDomain Code=3 UserInfo=0x2a5a00 "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" Same code works fine if I use previous developer account's appid, pro-certificate and product ids. This is very strange issue, I double checked product id names and other things still facing same error. Any clue..?

  • OpenCV: How to copy CvSeq data into CvMat?

    - by Can Bal
I have a CvSeq structure at hand, which is the output of an available OpenCV function. This holds 128 bytes of data in each of the sequence elements. I want to copy each of these 128-byte elements into rows of a CvMat structure to form a N-by-128 of type CV_32FC1. What would be the most efficient way to do this? I thought of using memcpy but I couldn't come up with a working solution. For the details, I want to calculate the SURF features in an image by cvExtractSURF() function, and copy the SURF descriptors into a matrix for passing it to the cvKMeans2().

  • How Do You Insert Large Blobs Into Oracle 10G Using System.Data.OracleClient?

    - by discwiz
Trying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, code in vb.net. Thanks, Dave

  • deleting registry key, using Visual Studio 2008 setup and deployment project in windows 7

    - by Isuru
I have created a setup and deployment project in Visual Studio 2008 Professional. I'm using Visual C++, and in it I have two exe files which run under custom actions. One is running in commit and other in uninstall. Purpose is to add a registry key at install time and remove it at uninstall. It works perfectly on Windows XP but when I change to Windows 7 and run the setup, only the key-adding part works. The key doesn't get deleted at uninstall. But when I take the uninstall exe file out from the setup and run it separately on Windows 7, (not through the setup, by just double-clicking on the exe) it removes the registry entry perfectly. Any idea what the problem is?

  • Bash alias to open Vim at last edit mark

    - by Pierre LaFayette
The mark " in Vim takes you to your last edit position. I want to create an alias that will open my Vim instance and jump to that mark; something which is obviously extremely useful. This works from the command line: $ vim -c "'\"" File.cpp Now I want to make an alias for this: $ alias v='vim -c "'\"" File.cpp' Well that's not going to work! You need to escape the first single quote you say... $ alias v='vim -c "\'\"" File.cpp' Hmm. That didn't work either... So I try a whole lot of variations of single quoted and double quoted madness, bang my head against the table and load up stackoverflow in my browser, and here we are. How do I properly escape this alias?

  • Jpeg calculating max size

    - by Doodle
I have to say the I don't know much about how file formats work. My question is say I have a jpeg file that is 200 px by 200 px, how can one calculate what the maximum size that file could be in terms of megabytes/bytes? I think that the reasoning that led to the question will help some one answer me. I have a Java Applet the uploads Images that people draw with it to my server. I need to know what the max size that this file can conceivably reach. It is always going to be 200x200. It sounds dumb but are there colors that take more byte size then others and if so what is the most expensive one?

But what data-type would I use in this case? char buffer[1]; DWORD dwRead; FILE * pFile; pFile = fopen(file,"w"); while (InternetReadFile(hRequest, buffer, 1, &dwRead)) { if(dwRead != 1) break; fprintf(pFile,"%s",buffer); } fclose(pFile);
