  • Cross-forest universal groups on Windows Server?

    I would like to create a Universal Group whose members are a mix of cross-forests users and groups. In the following example, two forests are mentioned (US and UK) and two domains in each forest (GeneralStaff and Java): For example, the universalDevelopers group may comprise of members from UK.Java.Developers and US.Java.Developers. Then, for example, there may be a group of universalSales which contains the users UK.GeneralStaff.John and US.GeneralStaff.Dave. In UK forest at the minute, I can freely add members and groups from the UK. But there is no way to add members from the US forest, despite having a two-way trust in place... e.g. I can login with US members into UK and vice-versa. A further complication is that, with a Universal group in the UK (which contains three domains), I can only add two of the three. It can't see the third. Could people please provide some thoughts on why cross-forest groups can't be created and ways of 'seeing' all domains within a forest. EDIT: This is on a combination of Windows 2003 and 2008 server. Answers can be regarding either. Thanks!

  • Attempting Unauthorized operation - SQL 2008 R2 install

    I've been banging against this for a few days. Keep getting this unauthorized error when trying to install SQL 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 machine. I've changed permissions on the key, does not fix... Created an admin user, gave specific permissions on that key, does not fix... Disabled all firewalls, installed from a local admin, does not fix...   • Unable to connect to mail server via IMAP and roundcube

    I am having trouble getting the final parts of my mail server up and working. I followed this tutorial to get everything set up on the mail server side. I have installed roundcube for webmail and configured it but it is saying "error connecting, connection refused" when attempting to connect to it using IMAP. This is thorough the "test imap" section of its installer. Also it is giving me an error message about perissions for it's log and temp folders but that's not as important as acutally getting mail to work. I have also tried connecting to the mail server using thunderbird however it cannot establish a connection either and I know my login information is correct. I know that the databases are working correctly based on the roundcube installer telling me that they have been "successfully initialized". Here are my firewall rules -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -m conntrack --ctstate RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 465 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 487 -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -j DROP Which I set up in iptables. I have modified them from what I used in this tutorial I'm not sure what to try next. Any help would be wonderful! I am using Ubuntu 14.04 server, apache 2.4.7, roundcube 1.0.1, and the latest versions of dovecot and postfix. The email databases are contained in mysql. I am running this on a VPS server. UPDATE: I have changed from iptables to using ufw. I have run the following commands to set up a basic firewall with ufw. ufw default deny ufw allow ssh ufw allow http ufw allow https ufw allow imap ufw allow imaps ufw allow smtp I then used telnet to check all of the mail ports. But Port 993 isnt working even though ufw says both 993 and 993/tcp are open. What am I missing?

    I am trying to query several different SQL servers and run a command on each of them. I am unable to get the connection string right. Code, below. I receive the following error:Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. I thought if I passed it the credentials it wouldn't care about the domain. How do I get around this? I will break it into 3 options I have: Hosted: Economical, $10-20/month for a small app Less setup, the CI company manage all hardware and software Desktop: I could just buy a simple, cheap desktop as a test server (about $500). Used server: My current office is offloading some old Dell rack server (Probably dual core Xeon, which I can purchase for $50 or less Please advise me which best serves me for a small team of 2-3 developers.   • Run a script on user connection on the VM host

    I have a server running a Virtual Desktop Managed Pool, what I would like to do is when a user logs in I would like a script to check the number of available VMs and if below a threashold add additional VMs to the pool. I don't think it would be appropriate to run this as a logon script inside the VM, I think there is a way to do this on the management side but I don't know the new scripting interface in Server 2012 R2 well enough to know which commandlets I should look for to schedule this. EDIT: I know System Center is perfect for this but I do not have a license and was denied when I asked for it to be added to the budget.

  • How difficult will it be to switch DHCP from Windows 2000 to our network router?

    While I know a bit about networking, I am more of a programmer, and I have never set up a DHCP server. I have always allowed a router to assign IP addresses. However, my boss has asked me to switch out our old Win2k Domain Controller and DHCP server to a new server. The catch is that he wants to just use our router to assign IP addresses rather than have the new server do it. Is this going to be more than just disconnecting the old server? And if so, are there any documents or tips anyone can help me to make the transition a bit smoother? The new server will most likely have Windows Server 2008 R2. Any advice I can get on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Looking for recommendations for a server-side newsletter program

    Hello- I'm currently using a server-side SQL based mailing list program called Php-List on multiple sites and it works fairly well. But installation and setup is quite cumbersome, quirky and the interface is not well organized... neither is the code... with pieces all over the place in random fashion. Customizing the "look & feel" and full site integration are both tedious and painful. Upgrading the version is made more complex since multiple edits need to be manually transferred each time. Also, probably due to a poor English translation, descriptions and instructions within certain areas of the user interface are contradictory and unclear. You just have to play with it and remember what you did last time it worked. It's supposed to be so my customers can send out their own newsletters... after supplying a written tutorial, about half of them seem to stumble through it okay and the other half just hire me to do it for them. So not quite easy enough for most average people to use. I'm looking for something that's as easy for them as using a blog or discussion forum. It also must be easier to set up and integrate into a site than Php-List. I have no problem getting dirty and writing CSS or HTML by hand. Nor do I have any problem editing the program code. Perhaps what I'm looking for is a solution that is more organized, a better GUI, and template or "skin" based. Therefore, if I spend many hours customizing a skin, I can simply update the program and re-use my custom skin without having to reproduce the tedious setup over and over. (I currently maintain a list of about 25 things I must manually edit or add to multiple files in multiple directories each time I install or upgrade Php-List) A great example of what I'm looking for is very much like WordPress or phpBB. They're both easy to install and customize yet powerful and packed full of features. They're also VERY well organized making customization less painful. So enough yammering for now... anyone know of something, besides Php-List, with many of the same features as Php-List; maintaining a mailing list with a server-side database, custom sign-up pages, automatic opt-in opt-out, allowing custom HTML newsletter templates, etc?   • SQL Server 2005 64bit on 16GB machine uses 3.6GB memory only

    Maximum server memory is set to the maxvalue AWE is disabled (should not be needed in 64 bit anyway) Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 It is a virtual server using VMWare If I look in Task Manager the sqlservr.exe process only uses about 3.6 GB of memory. Is that number not real? Shouldn't it attempt to use all available memory? If I run DBCC MEMORYSTATUS I get: VM Reserved 16670136 VM Committed 3640664 It looks like a memory limit I shouldn't be seeing in a 64 bit environment.. how can I get SQL2005 to use more memory?

  • Scripting around the lack of user:password@domain url functionality in jscript/IE

    I currently have a jscript that runs a php script on a server for me, dead simple. But... I want to be atleast somewhat secure so I setup a login. Now if I use the regular user:password@domain system it won't work (IE decided it was a security issue). And if I let IE just remember the password then it pops up a security message confirming my login every time (which kills the point of the button). So I need a way to make the security message go away. I could lower security settings, which tbh I am fine with but nothing seems to make it fuck off (there might be some registry setting to change). Find a fix for jscript that will let me use a password in the url. There used to be a regedit that worked for older systems which allowed IE to use url passwords (not working on my 64bit windows7 setup) though I doubt that'd have helped jscript anyways (since it outright crashes). Use an app other than IE. Inwhich case I'm not sure how to go about it, I want it to be responsive and invisible so IE was a good choice. It is near instant. Use XMLHttpRequest instead of IE directly? May even be faster but I've no idea if it'd help or just have the same error. Use a completely different approach.   • sql server: losing identity column on export/import

    Recently I started dealing with SQL Server, my previous experience was in MS-Access. When I'm doing an import/export of a db, from the server to my computer or even in the server, all column with primary key loose the key. Identity is set to false and even bit is not set to the default. How can I can I use an import/export job to make an exact copy of the db and its data? I don't want to have to perform a backup and restore every time I want the same db somewhere else, for another project, etc. I have read about "edit mapping" and the checkbox but that did not helped with the identity specification... and what about the primary key of the tables and the rest of the things?

  • Windows - Decrypt encrypted file when user account is destroyed

    I have a Virtual Machine running on my Windows Server 2008 computer that originally was received by me encryped, as the builder of the VM did it on a MAC, which decrypts files by default. I never thought to decrypt these files, as they automatically 'decrypt' when you have permission over them, so the VM has been running for over a year despite the encryption. I just upgraded my computer to Domain Controller (dcpromo.exe). Now when I try to access/run the VM, I can't because I don't have permission to decrypt the files as that was on another logon (local administrator) and now I am the domain administrator. Apparently the local admin is totally nuked when you upgrade to domain controller. I have tried EVERYTHING - taking ownership of the files, which works. Doesn't do anything for me. Adding full control to everyone on the files. I go to File Properties Advanced Details (under encryption) Users who can access this file. The only user is administrator@localcomputername, and there is a cert number. I try adding a new cert, I don't have permission. I don't have permission to: Decrypt the file (access is denied). Copy the file (to another computer) - access denied. I am totally stumped and this VM is a production machine and needs to get up right now. Does anyone have any ideas?

We need to scale the ASP.NET application.We need to add more users who will not be writing to the database. We are thinking of adding another server and routing the users who need read only access to that server. Is there a way to replicate just some tables to another database server. Since the 90% of data doesnt change, we don't want to setup any full database replication. Please advise.

I am new to software development and have designed several Client/Server applications over the last 12 months or so, I am currently working on a project that involves a user logging in to gain access to the application and I am looking at the most efficient and "simple" method of storing the users permissions once logged in to the application which can be used throughout restricting access to certain tabs on the main form. I have created a static class called "User" detailed below: static class User { public static int _userID; public static string _moduleName; public static string _userName; public static object[] UserData(object[] _dataRow) { _userID = (int)_dataRow[0]; _userName = (string)_dataRow[1]; _moduleName = (string)_dataRow[2]; return _moduleName; } } When the user logs in and they have been authenticated, I wish to store the _moduleName objects in memory so I can control which tabs on the main form tab control they can access, for example; if the user has been assigned the following roles in the database: "Sales Ledger", "Purchase Ledger" they can only see the relevant tabs on the form, by way of using a Switch - Case block once the login form is hidden and the main form is instantiated.   • try to attach to a database file but can't browse folder which contains the file

    I am trying to attach to database file (*.mdf, *.ldf) that I placed in the same folder as all my other SQL Server databases. I begin the attach by attempting to browse to the folder which contains the db files as well as all of my active database files. I select "attach Database" and click the "Add" button to add a database to the list of databases to attach to. When I do so, I get this error: TITLE: Locate Database Files - BESI-CHAD ------------------------------ D:\SQLdata\MSSQL10_50.SQLBESI\MSSQL\DATA Cannot access the specified path or file on the server. Verify that you have the necessary security privileges and that the path or file exists. If you know that the service account can access a specific file, type in the full path for the file in the File Name control in the Locate dialog box. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ The path is correct and, as I mentioned, it contains all of my other database files so I wouldn't think that permissions should be an issue, but here is what I see for that folder: Any idea why I cannot browse to that folder and attach to the db files that I have place there?

  • Reported error code considered SQL Injection?

    SQL injection that actually runs a SQL command is one thing. But injecting data that doesn't actually run a harmful query but that might tell you something valuable about the database, is that considered SQL injection? Or is it just used as part to construct a valid SQL injection? An example could be set rs = conn.execute("select headline from pressReleases where categoryID = " & cdbl(request("id")) ) Passing this a string that could not be turned into a numeric value would cause Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d' Type mismatch: 'cdbl' which would tell you that the column in question only accepts numeric data and is thus probably of type integer or similar. I seem to find this in a lot of pages discussing SQL injection, but don't really get an answer if this in itself is considered SQL injection. The reason for my question is that I have a scanning tool that report a SQL injection vulnerability and reports a VBScript runtime error '800a000d' as the reason for the finding.

    I have two tables of concern here: users and race_weeks. User has many race_weeks, and race_week belongs to User. Therefore, user_id is a fk in the race_weeks table. I need to perform some challenging math on fields in the race_weeks table in order to return users with the most all-time points. Here are the fields that we need to manipulate in the race_weeks table. races_won (int) races_lost (int) races_tied (int) points_won (int, pos or neg) recordable_type(varchar, Robots can race, but we're only concerned about type 'User') Just so that you fully understand the business logic at work here, over the course of a week a user can participate in many races. The race_week record represents the summary results of the user's races for that week. A user is considered active for the week if races_won, races_lost, or races_tied is greater than 0. Otherwise the user is inactive. So here's what we need to do in our query in order to return users with the most points won (actually net_points_won): Calculate each user's net_points_won (not a field in the DB). To calculate net_points, you take (1000 * count_of_active_weeks) - sum(points__won). (Why 1000? Just imagine that every week the user is spotted a 1000 points to compete and enter races. We want to factor-out what we spot the user because the user could enter only one race for the week for 100 points, and be sitting on 900, which we would skew who actually EARNED the most points.) This one is a little convoluted, so let me know if I can clarify further.
