  Hi, there are several list filters in jquery (quicksand, filterprojects, etc.), but I am looking to filter divs by class. I want the same functionality of the above - you select a menu item attached to a class and the other items fade out. Anyone seen anything like this anywhere?

• PHP - Check for whitespace at beginning of string

  I need to use preg_match to check that only a-z0-9. is used (including full stop(.)). I don't want to replace anything. My problem is that it doesn't notice white space at beginning of a string. Also, if anyone knows how to check there is no two full stops in a row, I would be very grateful. What I have so far: ("/[^a-z0-9.]+$/",$request) Thanks !

  I have a table that is being sorted by the TR tags, everything works fine except that I have to click twice on any item in the list after something has been moved for anything to respond, on links etc. Do I have to call some function after the list has been sorted to re-activate it so that I don't have to click twice on items?

• If you stick to standard coding in .NET, is there reason to manually invoke the GC or run finalizers

  If you stick to managed code and standard coding (nothing that does unconventional things withe CLR) in .NET, is there any reason to manually invoke the GC or request to run finalizers on unreferenced objects? The reason I ask is thaty I have an app that grows huge in Working Memory set. I'm wondering if calling System.GC.Collect(); and System.GC.RunFinalizers(); would help, and if it would force anything that wouldn't be done by the CLR normally anyways.

  I know this is completely subjective, but I'm curious: do you use separate filters for headers and source files in your Visual Studio solutions? Visual Studio creates "Header Files" and "Source Files" filters by default. To me, this dichotomy causes more annoyance than anything else. What's your take on this?

  what is considered best practice when referring to a program's name? i've seen #define PROGRAM_NAME "myprog" printf("this is %s\n", PROGRAM_NAME); as well as printf("this is %s\n", argv[0]); i know, that the second approach will give me ./myprog rather than myprog when the program is not called from $PATH and that the first approach will guarantee consistence regarding the program's name. but is there anything else, that makes one approach superior to the other?

I'm executing the batch file from a WiX installer, via a custom action. I tried adding an @ECHO OFF to the top of the file, but that didn't seem to do anything.   I'm looking for some good tools that help to share tips, best practices, company standards, etc. amongs developers in my company. Two tools I'm currently considering are a wiki (screwturn wiki) or Sharepoint 2010. I'm wondering if there is something better suited to the task, or any input anyone has on this subject. I'd prefer something that's windows based (i.e. runs on IIS, can authenticate users against Active Directory etc) but I am open to anything.

  Hi, is it possible to read the value of an IdentityTag if you place it on the TagVisualizer, without having initalized it before? I would like to use the tags for registering a new object on the Surface but having all the "free" IdentityTags in a Collection for initalizing them all... There must be a better way to do in I think. But the TagVisualizer doesn't seem to do anything when you put a tag on it that it doesn't know.
