• JDBC CLASSPATH Not Working

  I'm setting up a simple JDBC connection to my working MySQL database on my server. I'm using the Connector-J provided by MySQL. According to their documentation, I'm suppose to create the CLASSPATH variable to point to the directory where the mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar is located. I used export set CLASSPATH=/path/mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin.jar:$CLASSPATH. When I type echo $CLASSPATH to see if it exists, everything seems fine. But then when I open a new terminal and type echo $CLASSPATH it's no longer there. I think this is the main reason why my Java server won't connect to the JDBC, because it isn't saving the CLASSPATH variable I set. Anyone got suggestions or fixes on how to set up JDBC in the first place?

• Wordpress pages address rewrite

  UPDATE I tried using the internal wordpress rewrite. What I have to do is an address like this: http://example.com/galleria/artist-name sent to the gallery.php page with a variable containing the artist-name. On the real site, on the other hand, the initial URL is accepted (as in it doesn't go into a 404) BUT it changes to http://example.com/gallery (I mean it actually changes in the browser's address bar) and the variable is not defined in gallery.php. Any idea what could possibly cause this different behavior? Alternatively, any other way I couldn't think of which could achieve the same effect described in the first three lines is perfectly fine. Old question What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?   Suppose I have a long string like "4600airportburlingame150anzablvd.burlingamecalifornia94010". My code is breaking on this string. This is UNUSUAL. 99% of entries will NOT have a period. The CSS in the browser wraps IF there are spaces in the string and there isn't any here. How do I detect the period (".") and insert a space directly after it? Remember 99% of strings will NOT have a period in them. The code has to detect if it has a period and if so, do the insertion, otherwise not. If I determine a maximum string length, how do I insert a space at some length? Thanks

• Caching result of setUp() using Python unittest

  I currently have a unittest.TestCase that looks like.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): def setup(self): self.all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) def test_has_trailers(self): self.failUnless(len(self.all_trailers) > 1) # ..more tests.. This works fine, but the Trailers() call takes about 2 seconds to run.. Given that setUp() is called before each test is run, the tests now take almost 10 seconds to run (with only 3 test functions) What is the correct way of caching the self.all_trailers variable between tests? Removing the setUp function, and doing.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) ..works, but then it claims "Ran 3 tests in 0.000s" which is incorrect.. • Python: Find X to Y in a list of strings.

  I have a list of maybe a 100 or so elements that is actually an email with each line as an element. The list is slightly variable because lines that have a \n in them are put in a separate element so I can't simply slice using fixed values. I essentially need a variable start and stop phrase (needs to be a partial search as well because one of my start phrases might actually be Total Cost: $13.43 so I would just use Total Cost:.) Same thing with the end phrase. I also do not wish to include the start/stop phrases in the returned list. In summary: email = ['apples','bananas','cats','dogs','elephants','fish','gee'] start = 'ban' stop = 'ele' the magic here new_email = ['cats','dogs'] NOTES While not perfect formatting of the email, it is fairly consistent so there is a slim chance a start/stop phrase will occur more than once. There are also no blank elements.

  I have written a program for a stack. My question is there any other way except for a StringBuilder for such kind of problem? Also in what other kind of cases does this kind of problem happen? • How to generate unique number of 12 digits?

  I'm working on an app that sends raw data to zebra printer and print out barcodes. And since every item has its own unique barcode, I need to define a variable that automatically generates unique number of 12 digits long. see example: printBar prnt = new printBar("123456789012"); Is there anyway to define a double variable and pass it to a function that return uniqely 12 digits number and pass it over again to the printBar class?. But how to make sure everytime you access it returns a unique value?. I also thought of another way, since am using MS Access db, I can create a column of AutoNumber datatype and assign it to Random, but you don't get the exact 12 digits required, sometimes it generates a value of 10 digits sometimes more or less.

• C# Image.Clone to byte[] causes EDIT.COM to open on Windows XP

  It appears that cloning a Image and converting it to a byte array is causing EDIT.COM to open up on Windows XP machines. This does not happen on a Windows 7 machine. The application is a C# .NET 2.0 application. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening?   Hello Everyone, I have 2 checkboxes in a form and onclick of these, some php code needs to be executed and based on the result of the code, the checkbox is checked or unchecked. So i have written onclick = document.formName.submit(); Now it is triggering the same page and i am able to write the code. I am not able to differentiate which checkbox is checked. I don't want to use the procedure of:- calling javascript and then storing the value of the checkbox in a variable and making this variable as invisible. I would like to write something like document.formName.submit('checkbox1'). So that i should be able to handle the value of this or i dont know. Please suggest me an alternative method or better approach.

• WCF REST Does Not Contain All of the Relative File Path

  I have a RESTful WCF 3.5 endpoint as such: System.Security.User.svc This is supposed to represent the namespace of the User class and is desired behavior by our client. I have another endpoint I created for testing called: Echo.svc I am writing an overridden IHttpModule and in my module, I follow what almost everyone does by doing: string path = HttpContext.Current.Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath; If I make a call to: http://localhost/services/Echo/test My path variable has a value of '~/echo/test' However, when I make a call to: http://localhost/services/System.Security.User/test My path variable has a value of '~/system.security.user' In my 2nd situation, it is stripping off the '/test' on the end of any endpoint that contains multiple periods. This is undesired behavior and the only solution I have found to fixing this is some ugly string manipulation using the property which does contain the complete URL path: string rawPath = HttpContext.Current.Request.RawUrl; This returns '/services/system.security.user/test'. Does anyone know why my first situation does not return the rest of the URL path for endpoints that contain multiple periods in the name?

So I have to draw a red point over a image and update the point position every time the variable that contains the coordinate is updated. • PHP Default Timezone issue on Fedora + Zend Server CE

  I have ZendServer CE (PHP 5.2) installed on a Fedora VM, and I have the system timezone set to 'America/Chicago'. I have date.timezone = 'UTC' in my php.ini file, and when I call date_default_timezone_get(), or display date('T') on a web page, it says 'CDT'. The documentation on php.net for date_default_timezone_get() says it follows this order when choosing a default timezone: - Reading the timezone set using the date_default_timezone_set() function (if any) - Reading the TZ environment variable (if non empty) - Reading the value of the date.timezone ini option (if set) - Querying the host operating system (if supported and allowed by the OS) If I change the system timezone through the 'setup' GUI, and reboot the server, date('T') returns whatever I changed the system timezone to, regardless of what php.ini says. I also don't have a TZ environment variable, and I am not currently using date_default_timezone_set() anywhere in my code. Any idea what might be going on? I realize I can always override the system timezone by calling date_default_timezone_set('UTC'), but I'd rather rely on the php.ini file if possible. Thanks for the help, Dave

On client side, i start many threads to call a WCF service function which returns a long list of data object. On server side, in that function called by my client, i need to know the number of clients calling the function. For doing that, i set a counter variable.   Hi all, i need to generate the same number of text files as the xml files i have. Within the text files, i need the title and maybe some other tags of it. I can generate text files with the elements i wanted but not all xml files can be generated. Only some of them are generated. Something might be wrong with my parser so help out please thanks. • Is it bad practice to change state inside of an if statement?

  I wrote some code that looks similar to the following: String SKIP_FIRST = "foo"; String SKIP_SECOND = "foo/bar"; int skipFooBarIndex(String[] list){ int index; if (list.length >= (index = 1) && list[0].equals(SKIP_FIRST) || list.length >= (index = 2) && (list[0] + "/" + list[1]).equals(SKIP_SECOND)){ return index; } return 0; } String[] myArray = "foo/bar/apples/peaches/cherries".split("/"); print(skipFooBarIndex(myArray); This changes state inside of the if statement by assigning index. However, my coworkers disliked this very much. Is this a harmful practice? Is there any reason to do it?

• How should I declare default values for instance variables in Python?

  Should I give my class members default values like this: class Foo: num = 1 or like this? class Foo: def __init__(self): self.num = 1 In this question I discovered that in both cases, bar = Foo() bar.num += 1 is a well-defined operation. I understand that the first method will give me a class variable while the second one will not. However, if I do not require a class variable, but only need to set a default value for my instance variables, are both methods equally good? Or one of them more 'pythonic' than the other? One thing I've noticed is that in the Django tutorial, they use the second method to declare Models. Personally I think the second method is more elegant, but I'd like to know what the 'standard' way is.
