• ASP.NET Session Expired error when viewing reports using ReportViewer web control in SSRS 2008

  Hi, I am getting "ASP.NET Session Expired" error when viewing SQL Server 2008 reports using the Microsoft ReportViewer web control. I found this article http://balanagaraj.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/session-has-expired-in-asp-net/ which suggests to use one worker process in IIS application pool, but that may affect performance, is there any other solution for this? I tried setting "AsyncRendering" to false already and that didn't work.

In other words, without adding x:Class to the top of Generic.xaml and thus creating a code-behind file for it, which I assume you wouldn't want to do, how do you handle events for elements in your xaml that don't have a Command property (which is just about everything other than a Button)? Should LooklessControl have it's own XAML file (much like what you get when you create a new UserControl) associated with it that Generic.xaml just pulls in as a MergedDictionar as its default template? Or is there some other acknowledged way to do what I'm trying to do?

• Asp.NET custom templated datalist throws argument out of range (index) on button press

  I have a class BaseTemplate public abstract class BaseTemplate : ITemplate This adds the controls, and provides abstract methods to implement in the inheriting class. The inheriting class then adds its html according to its data source and manages the data binding. This all works fine - I get the control appearing with properly parsed html. The problem is that the base class adds controls into the template that have their own CommandName arguments; the idea is that the class that implements the custom templated dataList will provide the logic of setting the Selected and Edit Indexes. This class also manages the data binding, etc. It sets all of the templates on the datalist in the Init method (which was another cause of this exception). The exception gets thrown when I hit one of these buttons - I have tried hooking up both their click and command events everywhere in case this was the problem. I have also ensured that their command names do not match any of the system ones. The stack trace does not include any references to my methods or objects which is why I am so stuck. It is the most unhelpful message I can imagine. The really frustrating thing is that I cannot get a breakpoint to fire - i.e. the problem is happening after I click the button, but before and of my code can execute. The last time this exception happened was when I had this code in a user control and was assigning the templates to the datalist in the PageLoad. I moved these into init to fix that problem; however, this is a problem that was there then and I have no idea what is causing it let alone how to solve it (and index out of range doesn't really help without knowing what index.) • Thoughts on streamlining multiple .Net apps

  We have a series of ASP.Net applications that have been written over the course of 8 years. Mostly in the first 3-4 years. They have been running quite well with little maintenance, but new functionality is being requested and we are running into IDE and platform issues. The apps were written in .Net 1.x and 2.x and run in separate spaces but are presented as a single suite of applications which use a common navigation toolbar (implemented as a user control). Every time we want to add something to a menu in the nav we have to modify it in all the apps which is a pain. Also, the various versions of Crystal reports and that we used tables to organize the visual elements and we end up with a mess, especially with all the multi-platform .Net versions running. We need to streamline the suite of apps and make it easier to add on new apps without a hassle. We also need to bring all these apps under one .Net platform and IDE. In addition, there is a WordPress blog styled to match the style of the application suite "integrated" into the UI and a link to a MediaWiki Wiki application as well. My current thinking is to use an open source content management system (CMS) like Joomla (PHP based unfortunately, but it works well) as the user interface framework for style templating and menu management. Joomla's article management would allow us to migrate the Wiki content into articles which could be published without interfering with the .Net apps. Then essentially use an IFrame within an "article" to "host" the .Net application, then... Upgrade the .Net apps to VS2010, strip out all the common header/footer controls and migrate the styles to use the style sheets used in the CMS. As I write this, I certainly realize this is a lot of work and there are optimization issues which this may cause as well as using IFrames seems a bit like cheating and I've read about issues with IFrames. I know that we could use .Net application styling, but it seems like a lot more work (not sure really). Also, the use of a CMS to handle the blog and wiki also seems appealing, unless there is a .Net CMS out there that can handle all of these requirements. Given this information, I am looking to know if I am totally going in the wrong direction? We tried to use open source and integrate it over time, but not this has become hard to maintain. Am I not aware of some technology out there that will meet our requirements? Did we do this right and should we just focus on getting the .Net streamlined? I understand that no matter what we do, it's going to be a lot of work. The communities considerable experience would be helpful. Thanks!! PS - A complete rewrite is not an option.

  We have an WPF Application build on .net framework 3.5. Some testers find if they uninstall .net framework 3.5, but install .net framework 4.0, our APP fails to launch itself. Dose this mean that .net framework 4.0 does not include all 3.5 libs, and users have to install .net 3.5 even though they have 4.0? I see here are some migration issues listed by Microsoft http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee941656.aspx#windows_presentation_foundation_wpf Are they all breaking changes so that the backward compatibility is ruined? • IIS 6 Windows Authentication in ASP.Net app fails

  I am trying to install an ASP.Net app on an IIS6 webserver. The site requires the user to authenticate with windows, and this works on several other apps on the same server. In IIS I have enabled anonymous access and windows authentication. In web.config, authentication is set to: <authentication mode="Windows"/> and authorization...: <authorization> <allow roles="Users"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> Ie. allow all users in role "Users" and deny everybody else. This is the approach that is working with several other apps on the same server. If I run the site, I am prompted for username and password. If I remove the line: <deny users="*"/> I can access the site and everything works - but the user credentials are not passed to the site (Page.User.Identity.Name returns a blank string in ASP.Net). The site has identical (inherited) file permissions as other working sites on the server. The only difference in authentication/authorization between this site and the other working sites is, that this runs Asp.Net 4 (but there are other working asp.net 4 sites on the server as well). What am I missing here? Where should I look?

  I have an ELB set up with two instances. The issue I have with it is that when I do not add www. to it, the ELB just hangs. This is some info I get when I spider with wget: Spider mode enabled. I have a GoDaddy SSL cert that I added to the listener section that covers 3 domains, www.learning.example.com, files.learning.example.com and learning.example.com. These are my listener settings: - HTTP 80 HTTPS 443 N/A N/A - SSL 443 SSL 443 Change canvasNew (Change) My EC2 instances are running apache2 on Ubuntu 12.04. I will be happy to post my vhosts file if needed. However, when I ran the server with the domains pointing to just one EC2 instance things worked fine. How can I fix this issue for learning.example.com? Why does www work just fine? A second question would be what is the difference between instance protocol and load balancer protocol? EDIT: Here are the dig results for learning.example.com from yesterday. I changed the DNS entry to point to one instance to make sure it was the elb. • RadGrid nestedview sort makes nestedview disappear?

  When I click on the header of my detail table, it disappears entirely, leaving empty white space in the browser where it used to be. The Ajax postback caused by my clicking on the header does fire FooGridNeedDataSource and FooGridItemCommand, but I've used the debugger to skip the code inside those handlers (after clicking the header of the column I'm trying to sort, in the detail table), and I still get the same behavior. I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?   Hello. I'm building ASP.NET MVC2 application, and using Entity Framework as ORM. I am having troubles updating object in the database. Every time I try entity.SaveChanges(), EF inserts new line in the table, regardless of do I want update, or insert to be done. The problem that I am having is when I try retrieve the value from the checkbox using the FormCollection: FormValues["ReceiveRSVPNotifications"] I get the value "true,false".   I'm trying to use Tim Heuer's FloatableWindow control for a non-modal options window in my Silverlight application. However, I'm running into a problem with the FloatableWindow resizing it's parent grid when it opens. For example, before I open the window the application looks like this: But after opening the window, the first row of the grid expands: I'm currently setting FloatableWindow.ParentLayoutRoot to the LayoutRoot grid in MainPage.xaml. Is this the right thing to do? How can I prevent the grid from resizing when the FloatableWindow opens?

• TryUpdateModel is not working for new Record on ASP.NET MVC Page?

  Hi I have a customer Registartion page using ASP.NET MVC with fields like FirstName, LastName, Address from AddressDetail Table. When i create a new object for CustomerMaster and trying to update the fields using TryUpdateModel, it is not updating. But the TryUpdateModel is working fine on the Edit Profile Page and that particular record is referenced. • Setting a WebControls TabIndex based on the ControlId of another control

  I have an ASP.NET Webforms site that is regularly having features added. The majority of time a new WebControl is added to the page and I need to increment the TabIndex to all subsequent controls on the page. I'd prefer a more robust solution than choosing an arbitrary gap between the initial assigned tab indexes. Setting the tab indexes using the designer tab order functionality is one option but I'd prefer to stay in the source view. Ideally, if I had three check boxes I'd like to be able to define the tabindex based off the previous controls tabindex. • How do I deselect grid row when grouping in David Poll's silverlight CollectionPrinter

  I'm using David Poll's CollectionPrinter and modifications by Fama to perform grouping. I'm using the control to print a datagrid with grouping and it works well if not a little slow. Problem: When the grid is displayed the first row of the grid is selected and the first cell of the row is also selected. I want to either deselect the row or change the datagrid template to make selected rows/cells appear as not selected. I tried to specify a grid template to change the row/cell selection appearance but when I added the default template I got a COM error of all things - anyway I concluded that what I was doing was not compatible with the SLab libraries, or perhaps because the grid was specified in a datatemplate. In any case I abandoned that approach. Since I have the SLab source if I understood it more there may be a way to deselect the row after from that side of things - but I know the SLaB CommectionPrinter does not rely on the data template to be a grid, so I'm not sure how to modify the code to accomplish what I want. Question: How can I prevent the row from being selected or deselect it once it is or change the appearance of the selectd row when using the CollectionPrinter with grouping? Note that the row selection problem may occur without grouping as well, I don;t know, but it definatly does with grouping.
