  In statistical language R, mean() and median() are standard functions which do what you'd expect. mode() tells you the internal storage mode of the R object, not the value that occurs the most in its argument. But surely there is a standard library function that implements mode for a vector (or list).

I'm using this algorithm, at the moment, but something inside myself dies anytime I see it: 10**( int( math.log10(x) ) ) # python pow( 10, (int) log10(x) ) // C I could implement simple log10 and pow functions for my problems with one loop each, but still I'm wondering if there is some bit magic for decimal numbers.

• Android runs OpenGL ES 1.1 or 1.0?

  I'm developing a native app for Android and I'm trying to use functions such as glIsEnabled which appear to be only available in OpenGL ES 1.1. Google's docs claim that NDK 1.6R1 supports OpenGL ES v1.1 but the function call fails with "unimplemented Open GL ES API" and if i do a glGetString(GL_VERSION) it returns "OpenGL ES 1.0 CM" as the version. So if 1.1 is available, what do I have to link against to get it or what else do i need to change to get it?

  Hi there. I've installed proftpd on my debian box but I'm having having some trouble with the configuration. In my proftpd.conf I've added; DefaultRoot ~ !ftp_special This works fine in that all users except members of ftp-special are unable to navigate outside of their home folder. However, I want users that are members of ftp-special to enter a special home folder when logging on to the ftp server but at the same time I want them to be able to navigate the entire server. Right now, if a user that is a member of ftp-special logs on his entry-point is the root ( / ). Thanks in advance.

• Can I add Boost source+header files to my own (Open Source) project?

  Is it allowed by the Boost License to just add the source code of the stuff I need to my project (accompanied by the license of course?). I couldn't find any "descriptive" confirmation. I would have seperate Include/boost and Source/boost directories for easy access. PS: Seeing as boost::filesystem is going into C++0x TR2, and lambda's are already in c++0x TR1, I don't see any reason to be juggling with C functions like realpath, getcwd and the like. They don't work well anyways...

  I realize standard C++ only picks functions by argument type, not return type. I.e I can do something like: void func(int); void func(double); but not double func(); int func(); Where in the former, it's clear, in the latter, it's ambigious.   I wonder whether there's a way to program a resource DLL for Windows Clusters in Delphi. I want to write a program that observes cluster state changes. Judging from the MSDN API reference, all relevant functions are located in the ClusAPI.h and ResAPI.h headers, but unfortunately it seems as if they haven't been ported yet and HeaderConv seems to fail on them.   In Solaris, gcc gives me implicit declaration of function `getopt' when compiling #include <unistd.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { getopt(1,argv,""); return 0; } The man page for getopt says something about including unistd.h or stdio.h, however even though I'm inluding both I still get this warning. Is this normal? Is using functions that aren't explicitly declared common in Unix development?

• Excel Countif external date

  I am making an Excel 2010 spreadsheet to log support calls, services, and installations that each member would fill out. Due to being paid by job rather than by hour, there is a need for it to count each of these ("Call", "Service", "Install") there is in any given time span. The entry of the data itself would be in Sheet 1, and then a 'splash screen' of sorts would be in Sheet 2. Here I would like to be able to put a date range and it would display how many of each there is. I already can do the COUNTIF statement, =COUNTIF(Activity!$B:$B,"Call") but I don't know how to: a) Add in the prerequisite for a date so it only gets "Calls" within a certain time frame. b) Take the date it looks for from a cell on the splash screen.
