if your app use this solution , do do you plan port the app to other platform ? for example, iPhone app -- Android or Backberry.
I do not want user it , but some code is exist ...
I just read that Android has a 450% performance improvement because it added a JIT compiler, I know what JIT is, but I don't really understand why is it faster than normal compiled code? or what's the difference with the older approach from the Android platform (the Java like run compiled bytecode).
Thanks!
We're looking for a good office jukebox solution where staff can select songs via a web interface to be played over the central set of speakers.
Must haves:
Web Interface
RSS / easy to scrap display of currently playing songs
Ability to play mp3s and manage an ordered playlist.
Good cataloguing of media.
Multiple OSs supported as clients - Windows, Mac, Fedora Linux (will probably be accomplished by virtue of a web interface).
We have tried XBMC which worked well as a proof of concept however the web interface is just too immature and has too many bugs for a reliable multi-user solution. I believe the same will be true of boxee.
Nice to have:
Ability to play music videos onto a monitor
Ability to listen to radio streams specifically Shoutcast and the BBC.
Ability to run on Linux is a nice to have but windows solutions which worked well would certainly be considered.
I am aware of question 61404 and don't believe this to be a duplicate due to the specific requirements.
I have a network that was setup for multicast traffic
IN Machine A there is a server application generating multi-cast traffic.
I have also different clients subscribing to that mulicast traffic
-some client are in the same machine A
-other clients are in machine B,C,D
# Address I am using
IP : 239.193.0.21
PORT: 20401
I don't know why but the client in machine A , even if they join the group, don't receive any data while (and this is the funny part) machine B,C and D receive everything.
Checking with Wirshark I can see that the UDP traffic flow is there in Machine A.
I am using LInux/Red-Hat Enterprise 6.2
What should I look at? Any setting in the os? Firewall or what?
I'm working on a project that will use Umbraco for CMS capability, but also has a fairly simple ecommerce requirement. I'm aware of Commerce4Umbraco, are there others? Or, should I look elsewhere for simple e-commerce functionality. Would be nice to use the same platform for CMS and e-commerce... stuck with Umbraco though.
I have some fairly large tarball archives, from which I need to extract some files. I will later repack those files to transfer them to another server. Currently that is a two (multi) step process for me:
mkdir ttmp
tar -vxzf large.tgz -C ttmp/ --strip-components=<INT> <folder-to-be-extracted>
or alternatively with wildcards
mkdir ttmp
tar -vxzf large.tgz -C ttmp/ --strip-components=<INT> \
--wildcards --no-anchored '*pattern*'
Then I go ahead and recompress the created folder
tar -vczf small.tgz ttmp/*
rm -rf ttmp
How can I combine these two commands into one? Like this
tar -x large.tgz > tar -c small.tgz
Just to show, what I already tried:
Whenever I search the terms "extract" I will end up here or here or even here. When I use the term "split" I will end up here and that is definitely not what I intend to do. When I use "repack" I end up in strange places.
I have an ASP.NET website running on IIS 7. I would like to host a WordPress site in a folder on this site (/blog).
I know that I can run WordPress on IIS through the Web Platform Installer, I just don't know if anyone has tried this scenario?
I would really like to actually only allocate 64KB of memory, not 128KB and then do the alignment manually - far too wasteful. VirtualAlloc on windows gives precisely this behavior. Supposedly there's code in SquirrelFish for doing this on just about every platform, but I haven't managed to locate it. Is there a space efficient way to allocate 64KB on a 64KB boundary in POSIX? Failing that, in Linux?
I'll start with multi-monitor support. I'm trying to set up a Macbook to use an external display and I can't for the life of me get it to move the Dock over to the external display. That and it won't let me disable the Macbook's internal LCD.
Please put one item into each post so that the community can vote on each issue. Also please list any workaround if you have it and what version of the OS it applies to. Thanks!
I wonder how come there are not many options when it comes to scan or convert a device which could be connected to a laptop/desktop, which could -
1] Allow me to write with a digital pen on some special surface, which is connected to my laptop and thus converts my hand written notes to a pdf/jpg/word. (Microsoft's failed attempt at windows based tablet PC in past comes to mind, but not anymore)
Any such solution I can use with my laptop?
2] A document scanning device, apart from a flat bed scanner, integrated these days into multi function printers; anything that is portable enough to connect to my laptop?
I am currently switching from a system with HPN-SSH tunnels and enabled compression to something VPN based. I have tried tinc and n2n so far, hamachi requires a library I do not have.
In my primitive benchmarks I am not satisfied with the achievable bandwidth compared to the SSH tunnels. In tinc the low LZO setting performed best, but compression is only available in UDP mode.
Ideally I would like to have a TCP-based VPN with a multi-threaded compression.
Can you suggest me some ideas how to increase the performance? Would it be possible to somehow put a compression filter in front of the tun interface? Or are there any VPN implementations that might be better suited for my needs (fast compression, TCP-based, switch mode, does not have to be super-secure)? I would consider tunnelling Ethernet over SSH, but according to some articles it is not advisable.
I'm using MapKit in an iPad app with the Base SDK set to iOS 4.2 in Xcode 3.2.5. When I run the app in the iPad Simulator 4.2, the app works fine. When I run it in the iPad Simulator 3.2, it crashes on startup with the following error:
ERROR: unable to load AX Bundle:
/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.2.sdk/System/Library/AccessibilityBundles/MapKitFramework.axbundle
What am I doing wrong?
Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone knows in what technology/web platform the uefa.com
website was built. Its page suffix is ".html", but I don't see how it could be built with just html, since it probably has a lot of dynamic content...
Anyway, it's a great website with fast loading pages and nice design. Does anyone know who built it ? ... thanks ...

I've written software on Linux since 1995 but must get up to speed with app development on the Mac. I have no experience on that platform. Obviously I should get my hands on some appropriate hardware. What are good books, tutorial websites, and other resources for experienced devs getting started on Mac? Not just APIs and app internals, but also including how does one install an app, debug it, etc?
My new printer is setup on WindowsXP, it works and it is configured as a shared printer. I then setup a printer from Mac OSX 10.6.3 using the approved driver from the setup CD. I browsed for the printer via the network. When I send a test page, it queues, but never prints. Its as if the driver thinks the printer is local to the mac and just never finishes printing.
THe configuration shows as: smb://dragoneye/CanonMP2
Where dragoneye is the name of the Windows XP server and the CanonMP2 is the little multi-purpose printer.
My other Windows' CPU can setup and print.
Is this a known problem or am I missing a setting??

I am working with some C code called from Python using ctypes. Somewhere in the bowels of the C library, an exception is occurring and/or abort() is being called. Is there any way I can catch this in my Python caller code? (Platform is Linux)
Hi.
There is an excellent website that I would like to emulate some of the characteristics of in a website that I hope to develop. (I do not intend my site being in competition with them - mine would be more of a social networking site). Can anyone tell me if it is possible to detect which script and platform is being used on www.shoutlife.com? I have very little programming or website building experience so am considering using phpfox as my solution. Thanks in advance.

I have a computer that is running Windows XP. For some reason, the other day it wouldn't start giving me the following message:
"ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt"
So I put the XP disc in the tray and fired up the repair console and ran the following:
chkdsk /r
It was on for about eight hours and it got to about 52% I believe. Then there was a power outage and the computer shut down (obviously). Today when I was booting it, it isn't even detecting there's an OS anymore. If I boot the computer with no cd in the tray it says:
"Reboot and select a proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"
If I run the repair console, or the xp installation program it isn't finding any OS installations.
Any ideas on what to do next? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Update: After turning boot-time diagnostics on, I got this message when booting without cd (instead of the previous one):
"Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)"
I need to check what gestures are available for certain touch pads, and also find out what kind of information is available.
Is there some kind of application that simply recognizes gestures and prints out all relevant parameters for my test?
I am mainly interested in multi-finger gestures, with 2-3 fingers, but also, whether distinctino about where a gesture was done (e. g. right border, left border) would be very helpful.
Target is going to be Windows 7 and 8 64 bit.
I have a caching-only dns server which get ~3k queries per second. Here is specs:
Xeon dual-core 2,8GHz 4GB of RAM
Centos 5x (kernel 2.6.18-164.15.1.el5PAE)
bind 9.4.2
rndc status:
recursive clients: 666/4900/5000
About 300 new queries (not in cache) per second.
Bind always uses 100% on one core on single-thread config. After I recompiled it to multi-thread, it uses nearly 200% on two core :( No iowait, only sys and user. I searched around but didn't see any info about how bind use CPU. Why does it become bottleneck?
One more thing, here is RAM usage:
cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 4147876 kB
MemFree: 1863972 kB
Buffers: 143632 kB
Cached: 372792 kB
SwapCached: 0 kB
Active: 1916804 kB
Inactive: 276056 kB
I've set max-cache-size to 0 to make sure bind can use as much RAM as it want, but it always stop at ~2GB. Since every second we got not cached queries so theoretically RAM must be exhausted but it wasn't.
Do you have any idea?
TIA,
-Gk
Hello ,
I am trying to unzip a file with the size of 2GB
I am getting the following error :
unzip CLTE_C_08.zip
Archive: CLTE_C_08.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of CLTE_C_08.zip or
CLTE_C_08.zip.zip, and cannot find CLTE_C_08.zip.ZIP, period.
After some googling, some people say that this error is because the file is too big, others say because file is corrupt, others say that it could be a not unix archive.
So my question , how to find out if file is valid archive file on my Centos and what is the command/trick to uncompress big files ( if any )
Thanks in advance :)
I have a time management application that I use at home quite a lot and have running most of the time.
At home, I have a desktop PC and a couple of laptops scattered around the house...all networked together.
Unfortunately, the application I use is not multi-user and I risk losing/corrupting data if it has been left running on one computer inadvertently while I start using it on another one in another part of the house.
I use Live Mesh to automatically keep the application's database synced across the different computers and I just need some way of making sure that I don't start using the application on another computer before closing it down on the previous one.
Anyone know of any Windows software that can detect if an application is running simultaneously on different computers on my network, and warn me if I am about to have two open at the same time?
