• Is there a simple way to let a layer throw an smooth shadow?

  I was drawing a path into a layer. Lets say I can't access that drawing code in any way, because it comes from a compiled lib. Now I want to let that layer throw a shadow which matches the shape of its irregular content shape. Is there an easy way to do it? Or must I draw like 20 of those layers and scale them up on every iteration, adjusting their alpha and letting the GPU do the extraordinarily heavy compositing?

I've tried to use port to install ncurses and it seems that it already exists on my system so now I was wondering if there was a way to get PHP to use it without having to recompile PHP --with-ncurses. In other words: Can PHP be configured to use ncurses without the recompilation?

  Hi, I have a small C++ dll which was written in Visual Studio (of course). In the solution code, I have a resource file that includes only version information. The strange dact is, that when I frag the compiled dll to Visual Studio, it opens a resource viewer with bitmaps, dialogs and a string table - where do all of them come from??   I was hoping someone could explain why my application when loaded uses varying amounts of RAM. I'm speaking about a compiled version that uses the exe directly. It's a pretty basic applications and there are no conditional branches in the startup of the application. Yet every time I start it up the RAM amount varies from 6MB-16MB. I know it's on the small end of usage anyways but I'm curious of why this happens.

  I am developing a web application. I am using Eclipse as IDE. I was using generic and for each loop, both being feature of java 1.5, and it compiled quite fine when used in backend means in simple java classes. But when I'm using these on jsp, jsp is failing to compile with error showing generic and for each as culprit. Can you shed some light on this? Maybe I am at fault with Eclipse settings?

• Is it safe to install .Net 3.5 SP1 after .Net 4.0 RC has already been installed?

  I have a Build Agent that was only dealing in .Net 4.0 RC stuff, and so only had .Net 2.0 (natively) and 4.0 (manually) versions installed. It now needs to support stuff compiled against 3.5 SP1. • Any reason to clean up unused imports in Java, other than reducing clutter?

  Is there any good reason to avoid unused import statements in Java? As I understand it, they are there for the compiler, so lots of unused imports won't have any impacts on the compiled code. Is it just to reduce clutter and to avoid naming conflicts down the line? (I ask because Eclipse gives a warning about unused imports, which is kind of annoying when I'm developing code because I don't want to remove the imports until I'm pretty sure I'm done designing the class.)

  Hi, The same compiled .Net / C++ / Com program does different things on two seemingly same computers. Both have DOZENS of things installed on them. I would like to figure out what the difference between the two is by looking at an ASCII diff. Before that I need to "serialize" the list of installed things in a plain readable format - sorted alphabetically + one item per line. A Python script would be ideal, but I also have Perl, PowerShell installed. Thank you.

• XCode - Automatically add all files in a folder to a target

  In XCode, is there a way to specify that all files in a folder are compiled by a target. Eg. the 'Test' target automatically compiles all files in the 'Tests' folder, whereas the 'App' target compiles everything in the 'Sources' folder. Today, the way I'm doing it, is to add a file to a target everytime I create it. This feels a bit error prone and redundant since the files are already organized in the correct folders. Thanks.
