    what algorithms should I explore to implement a feature which lets a user find other user located near him , the latitude and the longitudes of all the user are known in advance and are fixed [not dynamic]. Also i believe that there should be a better way to store such data then simply storing the lat , long of the user against his user id in a database.What are the efficient ways to handle this ?

  • Manually Increasing the Amount of CPU a Java Application Uses

    I've just made a program with Eclipse that takes a really long time to execute. It's taking even longer because it's loading my CPU to 25% only (I'm assuming that is because I'm using a quad-core and the program is only using one core). Is there any way to make the program use all 4 cores to max it out? Java is supposed to be natively multi-threaded, so I don't understand why it would only use 25%.

    Hello, I'm pretty new to the whole JRuby world. I'm using RSpec on a pretty big test suite. I'd like to be able to run the specs frequently but the JVM takes so long to startup it's becoming a real time drain.     The following code does not give a warning with g++ 4.1.1 and -Wall. int octalStrToInt(const std::string& s) { return strtol(s.c_str(), 0, 8); } I was expecting a warning because strtol returns a long int but my function is only returning a plain int. Might other compilers emit a warning here? Should I cast the return value to int in this case as a good practice?

    I am trying to output a long XML result from SMSS. When I right click on the results and 'save results as...', I can only get a 2mb file? I have changed the settings in SMSS via Tools - Options - Query Results - SQL Server - Results to Grid, for XML data to be unlimited. Forever, it still seems to be truncating my XML results?     I am trying to make a ranking manager for a small project.The totals are stored in the database.I can easily get the max and min using mysql and also arrange the records descending.The problem comes in when there is a tie.I need to show a tie in the form:1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,7,7,7, etc.The repeated numbers will show the ties.I have been thinking of ways of achieving the above but i need more ideas;mine is seems long and complicated.     After taking into accound answers for my questions here and here I created (well may-be) improved version of my wrapper. The key issue was what if an attacker is knowing what is encoded - he might then find the key and encode another messages. So I added XOR before encryption.   • CSS Unwanted padding in IE using floats.

    It's been a long day of designing and I ran into a problem today. The website www.dcninc.com/newtest/security_testing.php is a new design I'm working on at work right now. If you view it in Firefox you will notice there is no padding on the 2 right boxes (I did that on purpose to trouble shoot my problem) However if you view that same page in IE, it adds padding to the right side.     I have a java primitive type at hand: Class c = int.class; // or long.class, or boolean.class I'd like to get a 'default value' for this class - specifically the value is assigned to fields of this type if they are not initialized. E.g., '0' for a number, 'false' for a boolean. Is there a generic way to do this? I tried c.newInstance() But I'm getting an InstantiationException, and not a default instance.
