Is there a way to specify, for example 4 distinct values for a varchar column in MS SQL Server 2008?
For example, I need a column called Frequency (varchar) that only accepts 'Daily', 'Weekly', 'Monthly', 'Yearly' as possible values
Is this possible to set within the SQL Server Management Studio when creating the table?
I'm creating a search form using an asp:button control with the urlpostback set to a results page. The problem is, the asp:button uses Visual Basic and the search results from Google require Javascript.
Is there a way to take the data from an asp: textbox in VB and then send it to another page that uses Javascript and use the data?
I have been playing with this webbrowser control example
I got it working and added some timers using ON_WM_TIMER.
Now I would like to access the m_Browser (CWebBrowser class instance) defined inside the protected CMyBrowserView class into a different class. (for example CMyBrowserApp in the code sample) and use .Navigate and other functions.
How can I do this?
(im using visualstudio 6 c++)
I migrated from Java to C# and so I am wondering how to unit tests in C#. I remember using JUnit to test my Java applications and importing the package, etc. How can I unit test in C#? What are some good resources for unit testing in C#?
In VisualStudio 2010 we have MSBuild for C++ project. Also we can add additional custom properties files "*.props" to projects, which are just MSBuild scripts.
Is it possible in imported "some.props" file know its directory?
for example there is "project.vcxproj" file and "common.props" file.
I would like to write something:
<IncludeDir>$( [and something for common.props file directory here] )\include</IncludeDir>
What should I write there?
I'd like to read a binary file and use something like std::string that automatically resizes the buffer and such.
I'm using Visual C++. What are my options?
I have panel that I have customized. I use it to display text. But sometimes that text is too long and wraps to the next line. Is there some way I can auto resize the panel to show all the text?
I am using C# and VisualStudio 2008 and the compact framework.
I am developing a small testing website using Django 1.2 in Aptana Studio build 2.0.4.1268158907. I have a Django project that I test by running the command "runserver 8001" on my project. This command runs the project on a small server that comes with Django.
However the problem arises that every time I run this command Aptana opens two instances of the process "python.exe". Upon terminating the command only one of these instances is ended. The other process continues to run and use memory. My server is not online, and the process doesn't seem to do anything that I can find. This happens every time i run the runserver command on my project and therefore more and more python.exe instances will open up through my development period.
Any help discovering either the purpose of this extra python.exe or a way to prevent it from opening would be much appreciated.
I'm trying to implement unit testing for my code and I'm having a hard time doing it.
Ideally I would like to test some classes not only for good functionality but also for proper memory allocation/deallocation. I wonder if this check can be done using a unit testing framework. I am using Visual Assert btw. I would love to see some sample code , if possible !
I need to debug a winCE application over the ethernet using VisualStudio 2005. I
have connected to the device over the ethernet and now need to run
conmanclient2.exe and cmaccept.exe before I can start debugging.
However, I don't know how to copy these files over the ethernet.
Please guide me.
Thankyou!
I recently installed the release version of VisualStudio 2010. So far I'm less than impressed with the rewrite and was wondering if I'm the only one.
The thing I dislike the most is the inability to use the old-school MDI windows instead of the dreaded tabbed documents.
For the other side the usage generator seems like it may prove useful in time.
So what do you like or dislike about the changes to VS2010?
Sometimes when I get an Exception while debugging in VisualStudio, all the code lines in the stack trace belong to the System.. name space. It doesn't display my line of code which was responsible for the exception.
Is there a way to be make the stack trace show more lines or to ignore stack trace from the system namespace? Something like Just-My-Code for stack trace?
Hi,
I tried to turn on the Activity Monitor using SQL Server 2008 Management Studio (SSMS) through the options window of the application (Tools | Options | Environment | General | At Startup).
I restarted SSMS and I am getting the following message:
"This operation does not support connections to Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition version 8.00.2249."
I need to be able to monitor the processes and activities inside the database since I am investigating a particular application which takes a lot of time in its database data retrieval access and I am thinking it may be due to some locks or some processes.
How do I resolve this? Inputs highly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
I don't see a LINQ option when picking a data source for a grid view - any ideas?
I just upgraded to Visual Web Developer 2010. I see the other options like SQL etc.
Thanks!
Is there any way of removing unused references to assemblies, in a C# project, without the help of Resharper? The MSDN documentation does outline something for Visual Basic, but I couldn't find the same dialogs for C#.
An expert in highly optimized code once told me that an important part of his strategy was the availability of extremely high performance timers on the CPU. Does anyone know what those are and how one can access them to test various code optimizations?
While I am interested regardless, I also wanted to ask whether it is possible to access them from something higher than assembly (or with only a little assembly) via visualstudio C++?
OK, so I have started a contract where they are using (gulp) Visual SourceSafe and are looking to move to something better. I have recommended Git. I stumbled across vss2git, which looks useful for migrating from VSS. Has anyone used it?
Many thanks!
Using VisualStudio 2005
Language: c#
A new to c#
I have software, the software should communicate with gprs devices. So i want to write a protocol, TCP, UDP communication code.
Can any one give some idea for writing a source code and some sample code also.
I use two monitors. The second one has a browser open. I use Visualstudio in the first monitor and making edits to the web page.
Would love to press a key and instantly see the change in the browser. Basically doing a refresh in the browser behind the scene and still keep window focus in the editor. Instead of keep switching to the browser, refresh, switch back to VS.
Any better ideas than using a keyboard recorder like AutoPilot?
When I am running

Are there any known issues with visualstudio and code being swapped between projects?
I had a project running in VS2008 and when i went back to it, the code from another project had been swapped in the Program.cs class. I havent made any mistakes, im not talking about some code- i mean the whole project had been swapped out. Its as if the .proj files or .soln files had been swapped from their project folders???
EDIT
Ive restarted laptop, opened the code again and its still showing the wrong code BUT when i execute it, its the right code?!?!?!
